- In this video I show you a couple of trips hauling our homemade lobster pots in our small boat. You will see me haul and shoot my lobster pots. Then show and talk about what we catch in them.
You are truly a treat to watch. I've been binge watching you all day!
- That is wonderful to hear Suzette thank you. I am glad that we have been able to provide you with some distraction. Best wishes and stay safe. :)
Im glad im not the only one.
Great bass, superb fish. So glad you put her back
Matt Rush - Thats your breeding stock right there mate. I return all the bass I can. They get enough pressure from the commercial boats without me adding to it. 😉🎣👍🏻🐟
Everyone here is talking about the crab and bass, but I just wanted to acknowledge what an attractive couple you guys are, great family. Blessings. Thanks for the videos.
- Thank you so much. I am so very glad that I found a lovely lady who I can share my passions with. :D
I'm so pleased you put that female bass back and I've never seen such a big Hermit Crab. Great viewing yet again. Thanks
Teresa Hepplewhite - It was the only thing to do in my eyes. That’s our breeding stock and the future of the species right there. A prime fit female fish. Long may she live. I’ve had a few big hermits like that before, I’m going to try and construct a trap specifically for smaller crabs and hermits like that this winter just to see what we can catch next year. 😉👍🏻🦀
This guy loves what he does and that’s why I subbed. Awesome supporting family he has as well. What a lad
Steven Nashington - Thanks Steven. As you say, we’re just sharing what we love doing. All the best to you and your family over the festive season. 😊👍🏻🎣🦀🦞

Love how you talk to the fish! So entertaining lol
- Haha. Sometimes you get more sense out of a fish than a person. :P
I’ve been absolutely enthralled by your videos. I really must wet a line in our beautiful seas .
- We are truly blessed down here in the SW of the UK. I have live a few place and haven't been happier anywhere else. :)

My mum used to live in Falmouth back in mid 80s to late 90s... many many sweet memories of the times....... I now reside in the Eastern Cape South African in singular lockdown day 3 ... thanks for the distraction
Richard Scott - It is our pleasure Richard. We are already approaching the second week of our lockdown here in our house. Let us hope that it all blows over quickly. 😊🤞🏻
South African here too! Western Cape; lived here my whole life
Fantastic video. From start to end it was intriguingly educational. Thank you again, I hope you never cease to make Fish Locker videos.

Man, you have such a contagious happiness about you I go hitting the "like" button two minutes into the video. Everytime. How is that even possible? Haha.

Another good one. I wish I had a husband to take me out fishing and catching shellfish. I truly love doing that sort of thing.
PNWSillyHeart - 😊 Thank you. Not many ladies would say that. I know there are many men who would love to find a wife who shares their passions. 😊👍🏻🐚🦀🐟

That castle is soo cool. Also, thank you for giving us information on the catch’s and areas. I am not from there and I really enjoy learning new things. Thanks.
Jon Peterson - It is my pleasure John. I also really enjoy learning about new things from new places. 😊👍🏻🦀🦞🎣
I really do appreciate your video because you explain all so well... You know I live very far away from any coast...so when I have the chance to see the sea it's so helpful to know those thinks... THANKS!
Guignol Triboulet - It is our pleasure. I am glad you are finding the videos so informative. 😊👍🏻🦀🦞
Hi John, great vid mate, good to see all the crew out with you. Beautiful bass, she was well laden, lovely to see her go back down after she had recovered. Hope you get a couple of good weather windows over festive period. 🎣⚓️🚤🐟🎅🏻
Gatsby - Thanks mate, no I’m not fishing over Christmas. It’s family time. I’ve had a cracking year now it’s time to put the rods away for a few weeks. Plus it’s freezing!!! 😆🥶🎣
I know absolutely nothing about fishing, I just love your enthusiasm and knowledge. much love from Israel!
- Hi Shelly, I am glad that you are enjoying the energy of our videos. We are simply sharing our passion. Where in Israel are you from? I visited Eilat once. Beautiful place. :D
Beautiful scenery and a pleasant adventure. Thanks John
Isotelus - It is my pleasure mate. 😉👍🏻🎣🦀🦞
This is just so cool and very informative! Awesome content! And you can tell you’re passionate and make fishing and foraging a family activity!
Thanks very much we love sharing our life and passions
I was diving on the 'Inner Butts' at Lamorna Cove one evening when I came across an army of Hermit Crabs all about the same size as the ones you landed. There were literally thousands of them, all heading across the sand in the same direction, it was if they were on a mission and nothing would stop them lol. The sea holds many mysteries and amazing creatures, that's why I have been attracted to it for so long I guess. Great video as always John. 👍😊👍🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀
- They were probably on their way to the Krusty Crab for some dinner. ;)
Great videos mate, always full of knowledge and nice to see father and son enjoying the outdoors 👍
wonderboy765 - Thank you very much. We love it. And there’s nothing better than being out and about with the kids. He loves the boat!! 😊👍🏻🎣💙
I don't reckon I'll ever get to fiddle with lobster pots, but it sure is fun watching your catches. That bass was a beauty!
- Thank you very much. Lobster pots can be a lot of work but they are great fun and rewarding to catch something in a homemade trap. :)
I find your ways of approach to nature very humble. You do tread the animals with very much respect, something other fishing channels could learn from where fish are being put on ice alive, left in the boats to suffocate. Well, I guess we in and around Europe know the animal cruelty will have your license revoked faster than one can blink. Like the military precision and consistency in your videos. Good work, keep it up.
- Thank you very much for the kind words. I am glad that you are enjoying our content and that you share our philosophy o caring for the creatures we encounter. Best wishes to you and stay safe. :D
It is encouraging knowing you are in Cornwall. Do you do guided coastal foraging? When this terrible situation is over I would love to learn from you directly. You obviously love what you do and your environment. You would be a natural teacher.
- We do not do guided foraging as we do not reveal locations of where we forage. It would take just one greedy person and the whole area would be wiped out and picked clean.
Another quality vid John, well done and thanks for sharing.
Fozman - My pleasure mate, any time. 👍🏻🦞
Another excellent video. Thank you for sharing.
- Our pleasure Steve. 😊
Wow! That bass is a beautiful beast!! I wouldn’t have wanted to let it go... that’d be an amazing dinner!
First video I saw that popped up was your scallop and clam foraging... I’m hooked (mind the pun 🤣)!
Amazing - keep it up! You’ve a very happy subscriber ♥️
Lei Thompson - Hi there Lei and welcome to our channel. Yes a stunning fish like that would have been a fine meal but those big healthy females like that are our breeding stock. Even if there was t currently a bass ban on then she would have still gone back. I hope you enjoy the rest of our content and have a great day. 😊🎣🐟
I have just came across your channel. Fantastic viewing and the respect you have for the wildlife is admiral.

Awesome video. I really enjoy your channel and how you present what you are doing. Feels like you have brought us along. Thank you.
PMPC Mining - I love that is feels that way as that is exactly the atmosphere I am hoping for when we make them. 😊👍🏻🎣🦞
Canadian here. I'm actually quite surprised by the difference in lobster from East to West shore of the Atlantic. Great videos. Nice to see someone so passionate about conservation and subsistence.
BongicusMaximus - I also find that type of thing fascinating. And I believe yours get bigger. Or it could just be that ours are fished more heavily. All the same colour when they’re cooked though?🦞🍽 Welcome to our channel and all the best. 😊👍🏻
Its a pleasure watching your videos mate, you are an expert fisherman! And I thought I was pretty good by myself till I watched you!
- I'm just lucky mate. I am glad you enjoy our videos, I just love my fishing. Tight lines. :)
I don't even care about fishing yet here I am. It's just sweet how excited you get when you catch something 🙂

I used to catch small river bass by hand with my cousin when we were much younger
It was great.
- It sounds like a wonderful childhood memory. :D My siblings and I grew up playing in the woods and on the shore with our cousins. :D
My happiest days growing up we’re fishing and crabbing at the New Jersey shore (USA).
- Sounds like you have some wonderful memories. :)
Lovely video as always 🐚 I used to love finding Hermit crabs when I was a kid (and older!) I think theyre really special 🐙
Roxie Morrell - They’re mad aren’t they. Proper nomads.

Reverly Evans-Higgins - She was a stunner wasn’t she. Prime breeding stock. Very happy to see her swim away. 😊👍🏻🐟💙
Love seeing you putting stuff back and only taking what you need I wish others would follow that example ,bull Huss , smoothies et Al are a pain to skin and can taste grim keep it up buddy love your vids
chromemutt - Thank you very much, hopefully like you say these videos may encourage others to do more of the same. 😊🤞🏻🎣
Another brilliant informative video John, that bass was a big un!
Dave Mellor - Thanks Dave, aye I’ve had some cracking bass this year. 😊👍🏻🎣🐟
Favourite fish, sea bass. Cooked in foil, wine, lemon and butter.
- They are a nice fish to ask but I try to return as many as I can. They get enough pressure from commercial fishermen without me adding to it. :)
Keep up the good work .look forward to your next video
DAVID COLTART - Thanks David. All the best and have a great Christmas. 👍🏻😊
How neat! I loved all of this video, and I really enjoyed the pictures at the end.
Your videos are so calming to watch. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Steph W - Thank you Steph, we have really enjoyed using these homemade pots this year. It’s great fun and anticipation using them and have had some fantastic shellfish from them. All the very best to you and your family from the Fishlocker team here in Cornwall. 😊👍🏻🦀🐟🦞
St Mawes Castle as a backdrop, very nice. great bass by the way. We are always entertained thank you so much for the channel.
Clifford Spence - 😉👍🏻🐟🦞
I love your videos, you really are a great ambassador for our sport. Liked and subscribed 😊 Ps Cornwall will always have a place in my heart. I spent all my childhood holidays at my Nan's near St Austell, coming from the grimy streets of South London it was a paradise and I caught my first ever sea fish a 12oz Plaice from the Looe River which my Nan cooked for my tea 😊 So many happy memories of those days 50+ years ago.
- That is the absolute beauty of this sport and why we are doing our best to share it with people. Hopefully introducing generations of youngsters into something that has given joy and the happiest memories to so so many. Yet at the same time, through our responsible and conservation minded approach setting a good, safe example of how things can be done. Welcome to the channel Ric and all the very best to you and your family over the festive season. :) Tight lines ;)
@@TheFishLocker Thank you for your lovely reply. And a very Merry Christmas to you and yours John. 🎅🎄🐟🎣
You videos make me want to go fishing. Almost walleye season on Lake Erie. Take care and stay safe.
- Are you guys under lockdown out there or are you able to go fishing still?
Crazy good luck on first cast. Very nice Bass!
Brilliant. I've now spent more time at one go watching fishing videos than I have ever spent time actually fishing. It's 2:30 am local time. What even is this life.
- Haha. Strange times for everyone isn't it mate.
I I would eat all those crabs. Yummmy! So much information!
Jane VanSkike - I think you will enjoy our foraging videos. 😊👍🏻🦞🍽
I would have just taken that first bass home! Looks absolutely delicious!

This was an awesome video, you seem like a great dad.
guar67 thanks very much 🎣👋🏻
Great videos mate, something to watch while in self containment, cheers..
- Thank you very much. I hope our videos can bring at least some small distraction for folks.
Happy Christmas to all the Locker family, plenty more amazing videos for 2020 please John.
J W - We’ll what this COPPA drama is all about. We may have no choice in the matter. 🤷🏻♂️😛
@@TheFishLocker John - take a look at Mike D's channel - Jettie Rocks fishing. He was very worried about hiis channel as he takes his kids out fishing too, but he's done a lot of investigating & posted some videos about it, and he now thinks there won't be a problem.
Trampster - There will only be a problem if UA-cam decides to make the distinction for us. I’ve done quite a bit of research and although I am optimistic ( I am an angler afterall ) it wouldn’t surprise me. Even if all they do is disable the comment feature of the videos that is a massive part of what this channel is all about. We will see. I’m hoping for the best. 😊👍🏻
brilliant video again john 👍👍👍
- Cheers Romas. Best wishes to you and your family over the festive season. :)
This channel is so informative in such a practical way. What a great find! Wish I had come across it sooner ^_^
- Thank you very much. Im really glad you're enjoying our content. We will be trying our new projects and uploading more of the practical content to our sister channel The Fishlocker Workshop. Please subscribe and check it out. :)
Nice one John - another good family day out on the boat! Nice Bass, 2 nice Lobsters, and I've never seen Bull Huss in pots before, it's usually them Congers working their way in! 👍👍
Trampster - It’s the time of year, where they’re shot and the freshness of the bait mate. Fresh mackerel tends to get crabs and huss/doggies.
Amazing video John some cracking fish from that bass at the start to the huge bull huss and all in all an amazing day out on the boat 👍
- Sure was mate. You're flying with your channel now mate. Well done!!! :D
I love how respectful you are to the animals, I really enjoy watching the fish recover and swim away. I read a paper a while back that said a large amount of sport caught fish die after being released, I hope your approach minimises that.
beardedchimp - Thank you. There are many ways you can help or hinder the survival chances of fish. Such as the way you support a fish. Vertically by the jaw keeping the fish straight and if horizontal then evenly supported. Avoiding any damage to the gill membranes. This is vital, so when lifting a fish you need to make sure your fingers don’t damage the gills. And allowing a fish to properly recover if it needs it. I’ve said in a few videos that if a fish is exhausted it needs time to calm down and recover until it is ready to go back itself. And if it is “thrashing fit” then a head first entrance into the water is perfect. But the big big thing is not bringing a good fish up from deep water too fast. Fishing in shallow water this is not so much of an issue. But barotrauma is almost always fatal.
Crackin session again, thanks you lot!
- My pleasure mate. Take care. :)
I love that you released that beauty of a fish! Can clearly tell from your videos that you have a big love of the ocean and its inhabitants, always show your catches the utmost care and respect and only taking what you need! Well done!
Craig Webb - That is what it’s all about Craig and I’m glad you share our philosophy. It is something I hope transfers across to folks and is something I am teaching our kids. Never take more than you need, and always treat the natural world with respect and appreciation 😊🎣👍🏻🐟
Great video! Enjoyed that!
Catchavista Aerial - Thank you very much. It is my pleasure. 😊👍🏻🦀🦞🎣
I’m really enjoying your films that I stumbled on. I grew up in Florida fishing and now live in Essex where I tried fishing from a pier some years ago which was pretty dull. This is exciting stuff ... when I do eventually get a boat I hope I can find a mentor as knowledgable as you ! Keep up amazing content ! You need to be on telly
- Welcome to our channel CJ, I have a friend in Essex who has a youtube channel and does similar videos to us. He is called "Shore Fishing Essex" have you much experience with boats? We have a few videos aimed at the small boat owner/use. Everything from anchoring tips and small boat safety to how to use a fish finder. Also, we have a sister channel where we post more technical information videos. You may find that helpful. :)

The Fish Locker , I did have a look at that channel Thankyou. I spent a lot of my childhood boating with my dad and grandad for snook , largemouth bass , spinning for red snapper. I’m luck to live a few miles now from West Mersea so in next few years I might try some fishing. I need to be able to catch something edible though .....
That was fantastic mate 👍🐟🐠🦐🦞🦀🎣
Mang Moon - Thank you very much. It was our pleasure. 😊👍🏻🦀🦞
I love this channel!
- Thank you very much, I'm glad you are enjoying our content. :)
New favourite channel.
Anthony McNamara - Welcome to the channel Anthony. You haven’t got a relation called Gavin have you?
@@TheFishLocker - Thanks mate. I haven't got any relations called Gavin, but it is a fairly common name where we're from on the west coast of Ireland. My first job was pulling pots on a curragh for my uncle one summer, it put some muscles on my shoulders I can tell you. Some days we'd get huge conger tightly wound like a spring inside the pot, 30 and 40 pounders, real beasts - they were impossible to get out and when you did manage it, they'd nearly thrash a hole in the boat, it'd take the two of us to get them back over the side.
Anthony McNamara - Yeah I have a subscriber who comments quite often with the same surname. It’s quite an unusual name for us but if it’s common where you are that makes sense. I’ve had congers in the pots a few times but never that big. 10-20lb. I’ve found if you get the end of their tail out and grab it they slide themselves out but don’t half thrash!!! Take care Anthony and tight lines. 😉🎣🦀
Another great vid ,you come across well on camera with your laid back way ,
darren parkinson - Thank you very much mate, I’m glad it comes well. 😊
Another great video tight lines for next year
William Shaddick - Thank you William. All the best to you and the family over the Christmas season. 😊👍🏻🎣🦞
What a stunning fish I've caught a few 5 to 6 pounders this last month up at St brides pembrokshire and also a lot of decent size mackerel and pollock but nothing that big yet love the videos by the way I've learned a lot many thanks 👍👍
- Thank you very much, I am glad that you are finding the videos helpful. Take care mate and tight lines. 😊
The Absolute B---ks of a video, love it !!
Cheers and Happy Christmas to you and your family 🍺👍
Ken Dodge - Wicked mate, thanks Ken I’m glad you enjoyed it. 😊👍🏻 All the best to you and your and have a great Christmas 😊👍🏻🦀🎣🦞
Another great video from one of the best on UA-cam. Thanks John.
PS: The 7 people who dislike this would key your car while your out fishing.
markmoorman - You are 100% right mate. I know who a couple of them are because they’ve joked about it to folks who’ve repeated it to me. What’s worse is they’d be false to your face. It’s sad really. Jealousy makes people do pathetic things.
@@TheFishLocker Well just keep being you mate and sod them... I don't know you personally but it's obvious you're a genuine descent and very knowledgeable man with a lovely supportive and engaging family enjoying your lives and your hobbies together. If they can't deal with that (and thankfully they are in the obvious minority) then let them stick to clicking dislike buttons and keying cars. If they fish... May the fishing gods send plagues of spider crabs to their baits... And their underwear! :D All the best mate and thanks for the brilliant content and insight into your lives and hobby.
hell yeah.. great fish there with that bass.. those sharks in the traps are crazy too..
DumbestFisherman TV - Just angry scavengers aren’t they. Greedy buggers.haha. 😆🎣🦈🦞🦀
Another terrific video. Well done for returning the bass, she was a nice fish. I used to enjoy pulling pots, I have never seen BullHuss in pots before I only ever had conger and black bream.
Have a great Christmas with your family.
- Thanks Malcolm. She was a fine bass wasn't she, prime breeding stock. :) I love working pots. We've had a great year with them, the bull Huss are because of the time of year, the ground I was shooting them on and the bait. ;)
