Shark Fishing In A Small Boat - Blue Shark Fishing Cornwall
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- The shark fishing season seems to have been off to a patchy start in Cornwall this year. But with the bait fish arriving finally it seems to have attracted the toothy fish.... and some giant mackerel!
Here are links to some of the tackle I used in this video. I hope it helps.

I was itching to get a blue shark trip onboard my boat, the conditions weren't ideal but I went and got amongst it.

It is a masterclass on blue shark. Like the way you treat the fish with dignity
This is an older video, I have some more recent videos with better cameras that really show the sharks colours off. I’m glad you enjoyed the video and have a great day. 😊👍🏻
I’m completely new to Fishing and have recently come across your channel... Your knowledge and understanding of everything is just brilliant to watch...I’m soo glad I have a full collection of your videos to enjoy.... Thankyou and keep up the fantastic work 👌👌

Excellent John and the Mrs ,follow every video ,I am 63 years old and still learning , your so lucky to have great fishing their ,I live in Ayr. South west Scotland ,on the Firth of Clyde , where over fishing by trawlers has completely destroyed our fishing grounds ,Hopefully after Brexit the fish stocks will return ,Keep up the good work John .
- Fingers crossed after Brexit then things will improve mate. 😊
What a fantastic video channel. All the advice is brilliantly explained down to the smallest detail, which some of us really need. Thank you so much and keep up the great work exactly as you are doing.
- Thank you John, it is our pleasure. We are simply sharing what we love doing in the hope it helps folks out and enjoy fishing and the natural world around them. :)
I just love all fishing channels. I can watch it for hrs and really enjoy it so much, my hubby thought that I am a bit mad as not so many woman like watching this kind of film. Thank you , because you are not only gone fishing but you are also conservation'. Keep up with the wonderful work. Xx👍
- It is our pleasure to share our videos with you, my wife is also a great fisherwoman 😊
Been watching TA fishing and your channel came up. Two quality watchable channels. Glad I gave up on my TV a year or so ago. Great to see real people doing what they love to do and sharing their love. And....I don't even fish. I'm inspired and envious of you guys. So much so I may even give it a go. Thanks and keep making the great content.
Manchester C - Thank you very much. As you say, I am simply sharing what I love doing. Shore fishing, boat fishing, foraging. We just love it!! Welcome to our channel and all the best. 😊👍🏻🎣🐚🦀
I swear every single video is very informative, like a encyclopaedia of fishing knowledge.
- I am just trying to help people out by sharing what I know and love. 😊
Your patience is admirable.
sammyvh11 - Fishing often requires patience. 😉
That was exciting . "knew he was ready for another one'. Yes it was a glorious morning. A grateful heart is contagious. Love how u treat the ocean and shore like it is your home. Glad you have your sunglasses today because the other day the sun was hurting your eyes.
- I really love my boat fishing and sharking is one of my favourites. I had to work a lot last summer but this year hopefully Ill be able to make more sharking videos. :)
Sam and Pete say it all for me John.
😊😊
Lots of great information in the midst of great adventure. I enjoyed the action and happy to be able to go along via your video. Thank You
Isotelus - Thankyou very much for the comment. I’m glad it’s good viewing. I try my best to talk to the camera just like it’s a friend who is out fishing with me. So I’m pleased it comes across ok. All the best. 👍🏻🎣😊🦈
Probably one of your best videos mate shows you how start to finish, well done what a successful day 👍
- We plan to do more shark fishing this year. They are just starting to arrive so over the next couple of months we will be after it!!
Hey up John. Great Friday eve entertainment. Thanks for sharing with us. I appreciate your time.
Derek Allport - No problem Derek, just sharing what I love doing mate. I’m glad it was good viewing. 😊👍🏻🦈🛥
Haven’t fished for twenty years !!! After subing to this Chanel look out 👍thank you😁
Brian Jones - Haha. Welcome to our channel Brian. Tight lines mate. 😊👍🏻
I have been fishing from Cornwall once. I caught a blue shark of 65 pounds. Was a boys dream! Such a beattyfull animal. They used to kill them those days. I am happy they are released now.
Erik Scherder - Yes Erik many things have changed in recent years. Thankfully more anglers are showing a proactive mindset towards sea fishing and catch and release. 👍🏻🎣😊🐟🦈
Fabulous video as always John! Wish I could get out there too! Your videos are so relaxing to watch, teach us loads, and best of all, no silly music!!
Trampster - Thankyou very much mate. I’m glad you are still finding them good viewing. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some more fishing in over the next few weeks and we’ll have some more vids for you guys 👍🏻😬🎣🐟
“There you go”. Hilarious how calm you are. Nice and educational I really enjoy these.
- Haha. Theres no need to get all dramatic and worked up about things. Calm and safe. Thats the way. 😊
Great video, really fun to watch
SpearFin - Thankyou very much. Tight lines. Or do the spear lads say sharp points? 👍🏻🎣🐟
@@TheFishLocker sharp points it is
Stonking Fish ! Always informative and a great vid. Every day is a learning day !
Phil Harryman - Thanks Phil, glad you enjoyed it. Every day’s a school day. 😉👍🏻🎣🦈
Great footage John and fantastic Pollock.
Amazing John. What a superb session, a joy to watch.
Andrew Dudman - Thankyou very much mate. I might make a road trip back up north at some point and fish for a porgie 🤷🏻♂️👍🏻🎣🐟🦈🛥
@@TheFishLocker Well if you do John, please record it and put the session on your channel, show off Yorkshire's finest!
True man of the sea. Great great angler. 👍🏻👍🏻
- I'm just sharing what I love doing Mark. Tight lines mate. :)
Another brilliant video John👍👍👍
Romas fisherman - Thanks mate. 👍🏻🎣
Superb 😊 What an amazing creature the Blue Shark is. A real pleasure to watch someone who really knows what they're doing. 👍
- Thank you RicTic. I do really enjoy my shark fishing. Fascinating creatures. :)
Exciting fishing day. But fishing alone for sharks... gutsy, adrenaline rush for sure. I'm one of the few that likes shark meat, that would have made it to my table. Again great step by step. Thanks for the thrill of watching.
- I do a lot of our fishing solo. Maybe when we get a bigger boat we will do more fishing like this as a family. 😊
A fish that still sits on my bucket list - Great video once again - Well done !!
Blaser R8 - They’re there to be caught mate. Give me a message on the Fishlocker fb page and I’ll give you some recommendations for charters. 😉👍🏻🎣🦈
That fish that was covered in spikes was absolutely beautiful!
- Gurnards are my wife favourite fish.
The Fish Locker I have a story from the time I caught one lol. My dad left it in the space by the motor after taking the hook out, and then seconds later, flop flop splash. I still haven’t forgiven him or let him live it down 😂
Great video again John. You're a natural, I just love the in-depth information you give. Keep 'em coming Bro !!
KEITH HITCHMAN - No problem mate. Glad you found it interesting. 👍🏻🎣🦈
Amazing work! Just discovered your channel and loving it. Thanks for all the info and for being so open about it all. Subscribed! Keep it up!
Jack
Thats great Jack, glad you enjoy the vids make sure you. check out all of our playlists, plenty to keep you busy in lockdown, stay safe
Just come across your channel John.
I find you very informative your commentary excellent, brilliant content, and you boy is lucky to have a great dad that enjoys going fishing with you. I loved watching you guys catching Bass on the float on another video.
Anyway, keep the great content up, and will enjoy some more videos after my working day.... helps to unwind!😊
Julian Griffiths - Thankyou very much Julian and welcome to the channel. I am very glad to hear you are finding the content good viewing and informative. I love fishing with the kids. I have honestly been waiting since before my boy was born to take him fishing. 😊🎣💙 Have a good shift and take it easy. 😉🎣👍🏻
Another superb video from, IMHO, the best angling channel on youtube, thanks again for posting this and your overall work. Any chance you would consider doing a video of the gear you use and for those new to sea angling, the types of knots and rigs in use. I know there are a million channels with guys showing knots and rigs etc. but half of them have never seen a living fish in their lives let alone caught a fish :) I don't want to be harsh on them but it would awesome to see the rigs and knots used by someone who can more or less successfully target any fish he wants , thanks again
- That is great to hear, thank you. We have a sister channel called the Fishlocker Workshop the has a lot of our rig, knot and tackle videos on. Anything else just give me a PM not the fish locker fb page. ;)
a thing about sharks you may already know but i thought i would share it for people regardless: if you hold them belly up, it immobilizes them, making them easier to handle without damaging them!
Justin Lott - I believe it called Tonic immobility. 😉
Fantastic video as always, very informative, thank you
Elizabeth Grant - My pleasure Elizabeth. I hope the video helps folks out. 😊👍🏻🦈🎣
You make good videos John, this is a great video! Thank you.
J W - Thankyou very much J W. I’m really pleased folks enjoy them. Hopefully this will be useful for folks. I can’t wait to get out after them again!!! 😬😬👍🏻🎣🦈🦈
Awesome day out mate. I've never caught a shark so this was an exciting start to my day. I always find still waters, spooky and reminded me of fishing Blyth pier at night. Glad in a way I never caught a fish like that from that pier. Thanks for the day out John.
Nomad - Thanks mate, yes I agree the stillness is a little spookey. And noise travels so far on days like that. That whale sounded like it was right on top of me a few times and it was actually 400 yards away. Shark fishing is good fun when they’re a good size. You should give it a crack some time. 😉👍🏻🎣🦈😬
@@TheFishLocker Hopefully one day mate, but to be honest, I've not seen calm waters like that over here, only on lake Illawarra at times. Look forward to the next one. :) Have a great day mate.
Nomad - You to mate. All the best. 👍🏻🎣
YOU HAVE THE BATTLE EAR
Oscar Nilsson - I am not sure what that means?
Nice shark ... Back in the early '60s gramps used to take me out fishing for blues ... Used quartered bonito on hand forge hooks ... 6 foot was his minimum ... They went into a smoker he made from a refrigerator ...
James Witte - 6ft is a nice fish. What is it like smoked? 👍🏻🎣🦈
@@TheFishLocker as I remember it was great ... Grandma never let it in the house ... She hated the smell ... Grandpa kept it in the garage fridge ...
Another thoroughly enjoyable segment John. You seem to live a relatively simple and happy life and that transpires in the videos! Also you’re a great fisherman, what a session this was. Beautiful creatures these blue ones! You’ll be at 200k subscribers before 2021!
- What more do we need in life than to be happy. We make our videos like we try to live our life. Simple, honest and drama free. Roll on 200k!! 😊👍🏻🦈
What do you do professionally John? Just curious 😊
Couldn't sleep but you have kept me entertained cheers John, that shark was a pip
- I do love my shark fishing. I plan to do a lot more this year mate ;)
Your videos are way better than any ive watched on tv, much more imformative, Wouldn't be suprised to see you on the discovery channel in future.
- That would be incredible. Being able to share our passion with some many people would truly be incredible.
Blimey! Pulling a blue on board and holding up for the cam? What a legend! LOL
Another great video mate, thanks for all your efforts.
Bob Tooke - No problem mate, just sharing what I love doing. Like I said during the video I wouldn’t normally boat sharks, just unhook them at the side as it’s safer for all involved, but a smaller one like that is ok to handle. 👍🏻🎣🦈😊
Hi John, really enjoyed the video! Always impressed by the way you handle large fish and great underwater footage of that blue going back down. Tight lines 🐟⚓️🎣
Gatsby - Thankyou very much. It was a bit of a challenge to get everything on film solo and the underwater stuff, so I’m glad it turned out ok. I do enjoy a challenge. 😉👍🏻🎣 Next time I want one twice that size 😬😬🦈
Almost a feature length video John! it had everything, lots of different fish, tongue tied circle hook thingy lol stripping and a shark! Fantastic! hehe keep em coming mate!
Malc Proud - Haha. Thanks Malc. Aye could I hell say the name of those hooks!! And typical that the rod goes whilst I’m half undressed. 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🎣🦈
@@TheFishLocker It's great watching though John, that's what makes your channel one of the best, all natural with no airs and graces required! Spot on man.
Lovely video John. Very timely too as I am off to Cork at the end of the month and hoping to have a go for blue shark for the first time and from a small boat. Looking forward to it especially as we have an experienced shark angler with us to show us the 'ropes'. Fingers crossed for fair weather!
Richard Steel - Brilliant stuff. Well I hope the video has given you a few hint and tips. Good luck for your trip, let me know how you get on 👍🏻🎣🦈
OMG! You caught a Shark! That was AWSOME! You worked so hard doing that! Thank you for showing that!
- Just sharing our passion for angling and the sea. :)
Nice to see someone who knows what their doing, great Video
- Just sharing what we love doing Anthony. Safety first for the angler and the fish. :)
Great watch John, loved to see the shark swim off, loved the sound ov that screaming reel, 👍
Martin Thorpe - Thanks Martin, the fixed spool setups are fantastic fun especially when you get a good fish. That reel screams!! It’s like music to your ears. 🤣🤣
Another great vid. Thanks for taking the time to make them.
anglerfish1001 - No problem mate. If they’ve helped people out then they were worth making. 👍🏻🎣😉
I found your channel and I have fallen in love with your content. Great video man, keep it up and greetings from Albany, New York, USA.
Killer Bee - That is really great to hear. We are simply sharing what we love doing ( and I REALLY love my fishing ) with people with the same passions. All the best from Cornwall in the UK. 😊👍🏻🎣🦞🦀🐚
Been enjoying your videos, mate!
TheTreegodfather - Thats great to hear. All the best. 👍🏻🎣😉
Love what you do mate keep the videos coming pal
SurreyDan - Thanks Dan. Tight lines mate. 👍🏻🎣
The dedication to reply to every comment wow never seen that before not even got started about the quality of your videos 😄
- Thank you very much. I treat people how I would wish to be treated. I made a commitment early on with the channel that if someone could take the time to write a proper comment, I would try to find the time to write a proper reply. We are a channel that exists for the sharing of a love for fishing, the outdoors and the sharing of knowledge. The comment interaction is a big part of that IMO. Best wishes and have a great day. :)
Really enjoyed watching your videos ,
- Thank you very much Graham and welcome to our channel. Let us hope this lockdown ends swiftly so we can get out and make some more!! :D
Another great video with some brilliant underwater footage
Mike Dixon - Thanks Mike. It was a bit of a challenge trying to get it all on camera single handed. I’m glad it worked out ok. 👍🏻🎣🦈😬
Hiya mate we had exactly the same problem when I was down Plymouth with Paul and his gang on Kev's boat gorgeous weather but no good for sharking, at least you got one mate and really enjoyed the video, cheers John 😉🦈🎣👍
Damian Owens - It’s just one of those things isn’t it. A great day doesn’t necessarily mean great fishing. Aye I got my target species so I was happy. It was a difficult day’s fishing. 🤷🏻♂️👍🏻🎣🦈
@@TheFishLocker a bad days fishing is worth 10 good days in work! Lol 😂😉🎣👍
Brilliant vlog, well presented, I caught my first porgie 3 July 150lb out in the Celtic deeps good learning curve 👍💪
Jason Devlin - 😲 Amazing stuff. My PB is just over the 100 mark. They’re phenomenal fish aren’t they!!! Great fun. I’m glad you enjoyed the vid, tight lines Jason. 👍🏻🎣
Nice to be aboard again. Heres hoping for the tuna....
leonard whelehan - Aren’t we both mate 😉🤞🏻
I love ur channel, educational but also relaxing
Thanks Michael, welcome to the channel.
Brilliant video again john. Keep up the good work. 😀😀
Neil Smith - Thanks Neil, glad you enjoyed it. Let’s hope this weather gets a grip soon so I can get out fishing!! 😬👍🏻🎣
Great Video John. I thought we only had Basking Sharks in our waters. I learn a lot watching your videos. Keep up the great work. Best wishes
Thanks Nathan we get a variety of sea life in our waters, more than just basking and blues!
Another brilliant video John, loved it keep it up mate 👍👍👍👍🎣
gary murray - Thanks Gary. Glad you enjoyed it bud. 👍🏻🎣🦈
Excellent viewing John. Pity about the drift after all your effort but on the bright side, you accomplished your goal and also had an excellent mixed bag of species. The wildlife alone that you were fortunate to see was worth hearing about. Must have been something else to see. Tightlines for the next one mate and cant wait for the next episode :)
Colin Philpott - Thankyou mate, yes there is a hell of a lot of time and prep that goes into a trip like that so it really does mean a lot to be able to get the target species. The wildlife down here at this time of year is breathtaking. All the best Colin, and tight lines. 😊👍🏻🎣🐟🦈
I admire your bravery. I would be too scared to fish for shark all by myself on a small boat. Watching was so much fun today!
- They are perfectly safe so long as you are careful. I have another more recent shark video that was a brilliant session and has some great footage. 😊
Love it John,I went more . can't wait till next time.🤙🤙👊
Robert Howard - Thanks mate. Tried replying about the sunglasses but it won’t send? Got them from Boots. O’Neil Polarised - £40 I think, had them a while.
A day on the water with this man would be a fantastic experiance.
- Thank you. We have begun doing "Fishlocker" days with a local charter boat if you are ever in the area?
Just came across your channel this last week (lockdown!) and enjoying it. Nice size shark to catch on a small boat. Catching sharks off the beach in Namibia a few years back. 300lb=3 hour fight. Was knackered after it. Keep up the good work!!
- Welcome to the channel mate. I have some friends that fish for sharks off the african coast. It is insane what they pull out. This was just a small fish. I've had several up over the 100lb mark before. This was just perfect for bringing aboard to show you. Take care and tight lines :D
Excellent video John
CastaNet Fishing & Kayak Adventures - Thankyou. 👍🏻🎣🦈
Great Vid,what a change in your weather !!
CARRINGTON GROUP - It’s unreal isn’t it? Looking outside now you’d think Noah was getting his arc ready!!!
@@TheFishLocker Not in Barbados ,glorious Sun!!
CARRINGTON GROUP - Show off!
Hi John...another great vid...such an abundance of wildlife and species in your area...incidently...do the dolphins ever lift the hook bait..keep the vids coming please...thanks again Billy
lochstyle14 - Thanks Billy, no not that I have ever heard will dolphins take a hookbait. Seals are real buggers for taking hooked fish but dolphins don’t get involved thankfully. 😉🎣🐟👍🏻
hello , i really like you posts . i live in south australia . i wish we had costal foraging like you do . my son and i love fishing . i will keep watching !
Neil Everard - Hi Neil and welcome to our channel. I understand it that you guys don’t have the same tidal range as we do here in the UK? Also, you have a lot more dangerous creatures. 😳
Thanks for the great video, good skills all round.
Giles Whitehead - Thanks Giles. Tight lines mate. 😉🎣🐟🦈
top notch once again john, well done.
john burgess - Thanks John. Wasn’t an easy day’s sharking but got the target species. 😬👍🏻🦈
Great vid again thanks for sharing and looking forward to the next one 👍
Stinky Muppet - Thanks fella. Tight lines. 👍🏻🎣😊
Top effort and great video John 👍👍thanks for sharing 👍👍
Russell Hallam - No problem Russel, just sharing what I love doing. Hopefully next trip there will be more sharks around. 😉👍🏻🎣🦈
The Fish Locker yes let’s hope so . You need to see if you can catch up with some of those tuna !!!!👍👍🤙🤙
Just awesome clips. A real fishermann :), greetz from the netherlands.
- Thank you ver much. We just love our fishing. 😊
Love the show thanks again for showing us that's great 🎣🐟👍👏
Mi Mo - Glad you like the content. All the best. 😊🎣
20:13 Why did that line from the movie Jaws pop into my head "you're gonna need a bigger boat"
- Haha. Ive had some BIG fish from that little boat. :P
The Fish Locker Don’t get eaten by a shark, keep your arms and legs lol
Another great vid John, took me a while to finish it, there's a beluga whale feeding outside my window and it's hard to watch both at the same time lol, what a stunning day out on the boat, I don't care whether I catch fish or not on a day like that.
- With a view like that I think you can be forgiven for getting distracted. :)
Nice video again thanks John. Love your videos. Look forward to the next one........maybe a tuna? All the best. Graham
Graham Allen - Thankyou Graham, glad you enjoyed it. I do worry when I’m making them wether the footage is good viewing. I’d love to go for a tuba but the legal ramifications of targeting and videoing it might be a show stopper. 🤷🏻♂️🛥🎣🐟
The Fish Locker I did wonder John if there would be! Once again thanks a million. Really appreciate your vids! Graham
Graham Allen - It’s my pleasure mate. Just sharing what I love doing. 👍🏻🎣🦈
Nice Blue. I had a very big one come up behind the boat once when I was towing large mackerel plugs. I was like nope, reeled in fast hoping it did not take the lure.
Trojs Fishing - Haha. I had one of those moments a while back. Considered putting a bait over until it got alongside and was as big as the boat nearly. NOPE, not today. 😬👍🏻🤣
What a crackin' Shark! Great informative video as per usual mate, Tightlines!
Lex Linux - Thankyou very much, glad you enjoyed the video. Hopefully it is useful to folks. Tight lines. 👍🏻🎣🦈
Nice one John, I am down late Sunday. Will be stopping at Westward Casting at Bodmin on the way down and then shore fishing next week in the wind and rain. Sat 17th I am wrecking on Bessie Vee if not blown off. If I get the chance of a shark trip I will grab it but I have caught Blues and would like a Porbeagle next. I have same Quantum Cabo rod as you but won't be bringing it as can't fit it in the rod tube.
terry Nicholson - Great stuff mate. Fingers crossed the weather sorts itself out and your trip is on. The Cabo setup is great fun isn’t it. 😬👍🏻🎣🦈
Good stuff John. Really enjoyed that. Endeavour 500 has arrived and I love her. This has inspired me to have a go myself perhaps. Thanks for sharing. 👍🎣🎣
Gareth Grimshaw - No problem Gareth. If you have never handled sharks before I suggest possibly going with someone who has or go on one of the great charter boats around just to see first hand how to handle/unhook them. Then if you are still set on having a crack on your own. Go for it. Glad you’re happy with the Endeavour. They are good crafts.
Couldn't agree more mate. No way would I entertain trying something like that on my own. 👍
Great video John
- It is our pleasure Scott. :D
Great vid as always John.Love to see you hook, and land, one of those tuna !
kevin buckler - I would to mate but the authorities would be on me faster than seagulls on chips. 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️😡
Another great video with a cracking blue in tough conditions.
Richard Turner - Aye mate, not ideal conditions for sharking but managed to winkle one out. 👍🏻🎣
@@TheFishLocker looking at the weather today you would probably manage a 40 mile slick. My fence has just blown over in Newquay.
Richard Turner - Haha. You’d practically be trolling out there today!! I saw one of the small yachts had turned over down Mylor this morning.
Love watching your videos, keep them coming.
Catherine Evangeline Jaynes - Thankyou very much Catherine. Do you fish yourself? 👍🏻🎣
15:09 those chum slicks are similar a sort of tool for sailors to deal with bad weather. I knew a very experienced yachtsman who told me he always kept a bottle of oil on ship for if he gets the chance to test out how he'd read of people using oil to calm the seas in rough dangerous weather to survive (he didn't sail rough seas so he never used it). I thought it was a bit suspect, some superstition, until I saw it for myself using chum slicks and how all the little waves ripples are calmed, and in rougher conditions especially you won't see white water.
- It is interesting you should mention that. In the olden days when the lifeboats would go out to try and rescue people from a shipwreck and the waves were whipped to a foam they would tow a huge net sack filled with oil soaked cloth to calm the waters. Hence the saying "Pour oil on troubled waters"
i did the trawlers and potting boats and salmon boats for about 3 years in Ireland union hall and it is amazing what you see on clear day but never see any tuna only in the auction
dlb Vlogs - They are becoming more and more common around here and the Irish Sea during recent years. 👍🏻😊🎣🐟
Nice vid John, went sharking myself earlier this year, great to see how much your channel has grown since I've been away!!
Shore Fishing Essex - EYYY!!! The man is back!!! Great to have you back with us bud. Been loving the vids Damien has been sending over. Really great to have you back, your absence has been noticed and mentioned by a few folks that I’ve seen. Looking forward to seeing more from you. 😬😬👍🏻👍🏻😊😊🎣
