    It is actually explained pretty well in the Pokémon Adventures Manga. With five or less the trainer may suffer from a lack of diversity on their team, but any more than six and the trainer will struggle to give each individual Pokémon the care and attention that it needs.

      Because the amount of RAM needed to hold the data sets of each Pokemon were limited to the small amount of RAM the Gameboy had.
      8kB Internal S-RAM, could be extended to 32kB (Assuming with a seperate S-RAM on the cartridge)
      SIX ENTRIES:
      FOR EACH ENTRY:
      Current HP, Level, Status, Type 1, Type 2, Catch Rate/Held Item, Moves 1-4 Index number, Trainer ID, Secret ID, Current EXP, HP ATK DEF SAK SDF SPD EV data, IV Data, Move 1-4 PP Values, and a Seperate set of data for Level, Max HP, ATK DEF SAK SDF SPD data (for battles, can be hacked over maximum, but resets after being stored in the PC) Nickname data. That's 276 bytes of data.
      There's more RAM being used as well, for what's being drawn in the menu, what music is playing, what the previews screen was, player X/Y positions on the map, current map address, current number of events/npcs on the map and their positions, and any auto-running scripts.
      It was maintained at 6 because it worked, and there's no point to change that. Game balance was at Six.
      They did have a few early builds of Pokemon during the testing phase where they experimented with higher/lower Party sizes. 8 was too much, 4 was too little.

    6 Pokemon is the limit IF YOU'RE A REGISTERED POKEMON TRAINER. Ash is a registered Pokemon trainer with Prof. Oak as his sponsor. Ash's Pokemon get deposited at Oak's lab automatically because that's what the rules say. Every trainer follows the League Rules or else they lose their title as a trainer. If you're not a trainer, you can't fight Gym Leaders for badges, and thus can't get into the Pokemon League. Being a Pokemon Trainer and Gym Leader are jobs, pretty much. You follow the standards and rules to keep your "job".
    Damien is calling himself a trainer, but he most likely isn't; he doesn't have anywhere to deposit Pokemon (hence abandoning charmandar) and carries more than 6 pokeballs at a time. This means he doesn't have a sponser. There hasn't been shown any way to become a registered trainer other than having a sponsor who gives you your first Pokemon and Pokedex. He's just a random person with Pokemon, like a bug-catcher, swimmer, or maniac who doesn't intend on fighting in the league, but calls himself a trainer because he's an asshole lol

I had a childhood, I swear.

    REAL ANSWER: actually if you read the manga (yes the offical real one with Red) they explain that the reason is because you can't care and love for more than 6 Pokemon. I mean it kind of makes sense. If you had 20 Pokemon on your team, how would you fight with every single one equally? You just couldn't make time for each one. Also if you have a bunch of pokemon on your team they would not level up very fast. 😑

      The Emerald King /TEK very good point! now I'm wondering that too. they're evil shouldnt they be able to break the rules, unless there's a big reason behind all that. think about it if the evil team breaks the rules of having more than 6 pokemons. they can take over the world and destroy it, due to the huge amount of Pokémon they would have at once. there would be destruction all over. or another reason if they break the rules of having more than six they might lose their pokemon. who knows.

    The manga says it pretty clearly. You can only manage 6 at a time because otherwise the Pokemon wouldn't feel taken care of. In other words, it fits in with the game and anime mechanics of happiness. Pokemon max happiness of 255 and if a Pokemon is on a team of more than six, it would start lowering in happiness. That fits by manga and anime, and if you were to reference the anime, you could use Damien (charmander's original owner) who had a bunch of Pokemon, and his Pokemon were clearly not happy. At least charmander wasn't, and thus got over his loyalty by the end of the episode (happiness lowered below the base of 70) and hit Damien with a flamethrower. There is no theory, it's been explained.

      When I was a boy, my brother told me that a trainer can see through the red part of the Pokeball to see who they're calling out. Since the Pokemon anime is a show with a target demographic of pre-teens, you can't be surprised by inconsistencies and the like of this manner. If it were an adult-targeted science fiction series, I'd expect more concrete answers.
      I've always liked the version my brother told me so that's always been a part of my "head-canon".

    • @Flaris
      @Flaris 7 років тому +2

      Yeah, I'm going to go with the idea they picked an arbitrary number to keep some semblance of control. If people could carry 100 pokemon with them that could be chaotic and battles would go on forever. But limiting people to 6 keeps it reasonable and allows control. And they can program that into the pokeballs themselves.
      Not exactly a big conspiracy.

    • @kigut7443
      @kigut7443 8 років тому +23

      +Vandalia1998 I think it's so that strategy can be implemented in to the games. If you had five or six it'd be too easy to stack up six moves of different types and basically protect yourself from anything, especially if the pokemon has incredibly high speed. I'm a competitive battler, and I've always felt like I'm building a puzzle up when I'm choosing my Pokemon's moves.
      It's strategy, bottom line.

      yeah but once you delete the move you can always learn the hm again, but not with the normal moves for example you can't learn fire blast again unless you use certain methods.... it's just annoying flying, walking and so on to the nearest move deleter it could be better if u could jsut reomve the skill yourself

    • @kigut7443
      @kigut7443 8 років тому +3

      uchiha obito Changing something as huge as an entire mechanic is pretty risky and probably isn't a good idea -- the concept of keeping HMs where they are is so that they're treated as special moves in order to not accidentally get yourself stuck in an area which requires rock smach/strength/cut etc.
      Plus, if they're programmed as special and hard to remove, you can't trade these pokemon and further get yourself lost.
      Makes sense to me idk. Annoyingness aside, I guess you'll just have to develop some patience.

    Charizard wasn't bold. Ash only won like 3 badges, the others were handed over to him after he helped out the gym leader rescue their pokemon cause Team Rocket tried to steal them, or the gym was set on fire... Which is the reason why Ash never won a league, he kept being handed badges instead of winning them legitimately so he was never ready for the league where he'd face other trainers who actually won their badges fairly.

    Um, how exactly does an economy run on gambling? You realize that's not how economies work, right? Pokemon fights are, at best, entertainment - they don't actually add real value to an economic system, and so can't be the basis for an economic system. Nothing about this theory makes any sense at all.

    • @ProtoMario
      @ProtoMario  8 років тому +19

      If you lose the battle you pay the trainer you lost to, its a gamble.

    • @JohnnyFedora1
      @JohnnyFedora1 8 років тому +55

      Yes, but where does the money come from to begin with? You can't have an economic system based on this kind of competition. Someone has to grow food and build houses and make clothes - that is, make things that have actual, real value. Having a Pokemon-battle-based economy is like having a concert-based economy: no matter how much people like going to concerts, the economy can't be based on them.
      Put another way: if you have 10 people, each with $10, that economic system contains $100. No matter how much gambling those 10 people do with each other, that money just switches hands. Pokemon battles don't add anything to the system, but capturing and feeding pokemon (and, you know, the trainers themselves) subtracts from it, because you have to buy food and pokeballs and medicine. Pokemon battles can only be a net loss for the economy, meaning it has to be based on other things: agriculture, industry, etc.

      Twisted Toon Taylor I think pokemon is like a sport and because any trainer can chellage the league and become champion and to make it more faster they had set up the rules and shilt co. had designed every pokeball to lock if they are not attached to the belt. ( trainers put their pokemon in a ball,the ball is held on a designed belt that signal the ball to not lock so they can be opened when tossed) Because the 7th or 8th ball didn't get this signal in under a reasonable time hey lock until they are sent into the pc.

    Game theory, you are not. I was expecting something so much better. This gambling economy theory has little evidence to support it. The pokemon league shows no sign of being the government of each region, but rather just the organizers of the greatest competition in the world. They are rather like the officials for the super bowl. The best explanation for the 6 pokemon limit is that it is against the rules of the competition, just like how sports have rules to keep things fair. Otherwise, someone can win by simply having the most pokemon. The reason why the pokemon center is free? Because their world has free health care where their doctors are paid by the government instead of by the people. The pokemon stores take in money for their products and that's how they make their money, not by gambling. If any of that stuff you said existed and prevented people from cheating, then there would be no team rocket. Only a few solo rule breakers on their own.

After you get your Pokémon license, you can only carry a certain amount, and breaking those rules could result in a visit to your nearest Officer Jenny.

    If you want the real Real REAL truth of why only 6 its because the original Gameboy had technical limitations that made it so that it could only keep the base data of 6 Pokemon slots at a time, I'm sure they could have had more slots open but they could only have 6 slots at a time, the data from other pokemon was stored away in the boxes and put on standby. Or at least that's my theory
    Also if you want a more logical explanation it's because having 6 pokemon is like having 6 kids with you, the trainer would need to provide for himself and his pokemon

      Jesie Cruz for example if I had 667 pokemon ( good thing I did. Not put another6 ) it would take ages to battle. And you can't quit it might take a whole day depending on how much pokemon the opponent has so that why

If you had 20 Pokemon on your team, would you fight with every single one equally? You just couldn't make time for each one.

    I don't know how to say this with insulting you, but your understanding of economics is very pathetic.
    Let me provide you some basics. There are two fundemental types of economic activities. Production & Diversion. Production is pretty easy to understand. It is the actions necessary for the creation of goods and services that can be consumed or used to create more production. Diversion everything else a person can do.
    Diversion can come in both necessary and destructive forms. For example, building a fence to keep raiders out of your fields is necessary form of diversion. And the raiding is another form of diversion that is destructive.
    Now that you have the framework. Which society is likely to be more wealthy? One in which 100% of the population engage in production or one that engages 10% in diversion and 90% production. The answer is very obvious. The more people producing things, the more stuff there is to go around.
    Now let's think about the Pokemon world. Do pokemon battles count as diversion or production? One could argue they do provide some entertainment, but for the most part they are clearly diversion. You can not build a society around diversion. Eventually all the consumables will be used up and the society will die. Yet that is what you are suggesting a society has done. If everyone is fighting pokemon battles, then no one is planting crops and building houses.
    To make it simple, the Pokemon world is a clearly artifical is you apply economic theory to it. There are so MANY contradictions once you dig into the lore. Pokemon is not some well thought out Tolkien world. It is not even a well thought out framework trying to immulate a Tolkien world. It is the equilivent of the background on stage. Flat, colorful, and clearly not real. If you are watching Pokemon you are there for the explosions and dog fighting with adorable animals.

    • @tcironbear21
      @tcironbear21 9 років тому +5

      Zachary Morris I love exploring lore of settings. But Pokemon is one those worlds where there is a LOT of lore, but most of it does not reconcile to reality or even itself.
      I have an masters in economics and something I did like 10 years ago was try reconcile the Pokemon economy. I quickly realized that the world was WAY to artifical to ever be real.
      The best I came up with is this one. The Pokemon world is actually a Amish-like space colony set in an advanced intersellar economy. Basically a group of humans for what whatever reason have choose to drop most of the trappings of their intersteller & highly advanced society and live as how they think humans lived in the 1980 or 1990s. They keep only what they think is necessary and does not upset their aesthetic, and import much of their supplies from the advanced society. The viewing rights to the pokemon battles are sold to the rest of advanced society to subsidize there lack local industrial base. The natives of the Pokemon world don't mention the intersellar community because it is taboo. They also consider any non-Pokemon research & discovery to be taboo.
      To build on what was said in the video. When the colony was younger, the Pokemon cult founders probably descended in the chaos after a few generations. Between the poverty and the cultish devotion to Pokemon, it was easy for warlords to emerge. The authority ultimate rose was not just the most powerful, but the ones who set up a deal to sell of the television rights to Pokemon battles. Being the only source of wealth they set up a society even more dedicated to Pokemon battles so that they could broadcast greater and better matches. Children are encouraged to raise pokemon so that they never gain a proper education. The people of the Pokemon world are so ignorant of the world because the lack of a proper education, that they have no idea where anything is produced and don't even think to ask (just like modern children)

    Actually, there's also a reason why there's a 6 Pokemon limit which was explained in the manga Pokemon Adventures, specifically the GSC Chapter. Though I'm not saying it's the official reason, but it was explained for clarity in said chapter, as Pokeballs work differently than in the anime.
    In the chapter "A Flaaffy Kerfuffle," Crystal was unable to transfer her Smoochum to Prof. Oak due to the Pokemon Transporter being down. Prof. Elm suggests the idea that Crystal should keep a 7th Pokemon in her party, but Prof. Oak was against it. He then explains to Prof. Elm the reason why a Pokemon Trainer is allowed to have 6 Pokemon in their party was to balance out the playing field. He goes on to say that the idea of a trainer carrying more than 6 Pokemon in their party is shunned upon, and that the Pokemon League set a rule to only carry 6 Pokemon in their party, as having more would be chaotic and overall unfair.
    If you want a more game developing perspective, during the making of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, they originally wanted to have one extra space for 7 Pokemon the player's party. However, that idea was scrapped due to balancing issues, and it seemed a little too much.

    If I recall correctly in the Pokémon Adventures Manga (Crystal Arc) it is said by Professor Oak, that technically it is not forbiden to have more then 6 Pokémon with you. It's just that a trainer is only able to give equal amount of love and attention to maximum 6 Pokémon. People who have more then 6 are outcasts and nobody wants to battle them.

  • @DeathPaladin02

  • @hjIchigo
