You're missing my favorite one: Metagross' hidden ability is Light Metal, which cuts its weight in half. You might think this is good to decrease damage taken from Low Kick or Grass Knot, which deal more damage the heavier the target, however, Metagross is so heavy that it takes max damage from these moves even with Light Metal
Hahahaha good one.
Another one with Light Metal that makes no sense in the situation, though is easily fixable or completely avoidable. In BDSP, Ramas Park pokemon have their hidden abilities. Registeel's hidden ability is Light Metal, and when you catch it there, its lone steel attack that it knows is Heavy Slam!
Tbh, light metal and heavy metal are just bad abilities. Heavy metal so prob better bc of Heavy slam but that's situational
wrrr
Not so light metal after all, huh? 😂
If slow start halved regigigas' attack and speed for 3 turns instead of 5, it might be somewhat useable in lower tiers
Or even for 1-2 turns, or perhaps nerfing it as a 1/4th attack & speed for 5 turns
Halving it for 5 turns is too much of a downside for something that *shouldn't* be, you're getting punished for using a great normal physical attacker for no reason at all
Edit: corrected his typing, confused Regigigas for Registeel
Yeah 5 turns is almost the average 1v1 length
@@pokelordomega2414 fr
Or just 1 turn and it’s attack + speed is 3/4ths for a good legendary
I'd rather just replace it with Moxie.
Notable thing about the Rotom's is that in Gen 4, they didn't change types. So Fan-Rotom was still an Electric/Ghost type. It's probably why it maintained Levitate.
In that generation, it was actually worse for Carnivine to have Levitate because it's always been a pure Grass-Type. It would therefore resist Earthquake without the ability.

I'll be here all week.
@@toyota68ful But that's the genuine reason it has it. Why are you booing him?
Fan rotom, a flying type, has levitate.
Flying types are immune to ground attacks.
Levitate negates ground attacks.
This pairing is like washing your car in the rain.
Exactly!
Give it an Air Balloon
And then hack in Magnet Rise
And then it’s like Washing your car in the rain while your neighbor helps by using a hose
It’s like wearing a pair of pants, on a pair of pants
The Rotom forms really should get different options if they were ever given Hidden Abilities. Levitate would be hard for the others to give up but Fan Rotom needs something new. Even if it's just, say... Shield Dust?
It's like putting a hat on a hat
There's also Stunfisk with Limber. Since electric types can no longer get paralyzed, Stunfisk is kinda in the same boat as Rotom-Fan, so much so, that Pokémon Showdown random battles where you get a Stunfisk (non-Galarian), will always hold a Cheri berry. You know, so that you REALLY won't get paralyzed. xD
how about glare? i thought it affected electric types
@@sofiev5542 I think before gen 6
I’d give Stunfisk Sap Sipper instead of Limber, for Grass immunity.
Glare, stun spore, Tri attack, etc still can paralyze stunfisk without limber, but still that's kinda situational
@@Supalayzee Only in Gen 5, as Gen 6 saw Electric buffed to be immune to paralysis.
Some other effects should apply to the useless abilities, making them no longer or sort of no longer useless. For Defeatist, it should give the pokemon doubled attack stat in its first half of HP. For Illuminate, it should multiply light based move damage. For slow start, make it only apply to the first three turns in battle. These are just my thoughts.
Yup. Emergency Exit pretty much ruined Golisopod for me because it switches out in the heat of battle...
@@soappacket2342 I like emergency exit when it works (you smack something super hard, get clipped below half, and swap into the best possible counter). I hate it when you go for an attack, get outsped because golisopod's speed is laughable and you were trying to heal with leech life and get shunted out without your consent.
@@soappacket2342 yeah it's a really bad ability,

Regigigas, Slaking, “we ain’t never gonna get our spotlight....”
Galarian Wheezing: “I’m about to start this mans whole career”
Brittany T I think they’ll make it so it won’t work on certain abilities like that.
Isn’t Mold Breaker already a thing or does it not work like that
SPACECAT 069 It only works on the Pokémon that has mold breaker so if it’s a double battle and there is a levitating Pokémon on one side and a mold breaker Pokémon on the other side only the Pokémon that has mold breaker can hit the levitating Pokémon with a ground move. It also doesn’t work on some specific abilities like Shadow shield, full metal body, shields down, etc. pretty much mold breaker Pokémon can ignore the ability themselves but this neutralizing gas just flat out erases all abilities on the field (tho like I said I think they might make it so it doesn’t work on some abilities like Slow start and truant). I would say defeatist but that one seems like an ok one to be able to neutralize.

Tristan Neal plot twits: none of these pokemon will be in galar
I feel like that thing is going to be OP and OU in doubles, especially with Archeops, Regigigas, and Slaking
yes lol
Honestly slow start is a really cool ability in concept, I just wish it worked differently. Something like this: Regi starts off the battle with -2 or -3 speed and atk (not affected by neutralizing gas) but then just like speed boost it gives you a +1 in speed and attack every turn. Completely underwhelming in the early turns and would still have counters but if you can survive with it for a few turns running mind games you could get a really hard hitter. That's what they were trying to do with attacks like fury cutter and rollout but regi could actually pull them off and punish stall teams
10:30 It makes it very nice for shiny hunting, and since Frillish is fairly easy to get, you can avoid a shiny with an explosion move from killing itself. Other than that, yeah, but it is not useless in all situations.

Someone really hates Regigigas
Some changes I would make to two of the last three abilities that I am surprised they haven't made;
Run Away - Now let's you switch out for free. Regardless of Arena Trap, Shadow Tag, Wrapping moves, etc. This would make it ACTUALLY usable in battles.
Illuminate - Now acts like Intimidate but with Accuracy. This will be annoying and likely not used competitively but I think that would be so fun! Also, I feel it should be like Flash without having to use Flash. I suppose.
I think making illuminate makes all dark type moves do half the normal damage because it makes so much sense
that Illuminate would actually be pretty strong in my opinion, especially with moves like U Turn and Volt Switch. It's probably way better in double battles though. If a pokemon gets hit by that twice, or the Illuminate user uses a move like flash or double team, it could be hard to beat. I guess moves like Aerial Ace and Shock Wave exist, so it's not unbeatable. Intimidate can already force a physical attacker to switch after 1 or 2 applications. Also, it'd be nice if it passively illuminated caves like you said.
@@CatsLeMatts
Maybe make more unmissing moves, or add moves that help raise accuracy as well to balance this.
Focus Energy, Focus Punch, and a few can do that. Also abilities like Inner Focus and Oblivious can avoid this reduction.
Just thinking out loud on the internet I suppose. 🤔😅
Also give the ability to Illumise, *for EFF's sake!!!*
It's literally in its name and even its counterpart, Volbeat, has it! Why not Illumise then? This is soo incredibly dumb! 🤦♂️
U could make illuminate actually increase the accuracy of the users moves
1:41 Here's why Durant has Truant: Pretty much all (worker) ants live very short lives (queen ants can live for decades while workers only live for only weeks or months depending on the species) because they are overworked. As a result, they constantly have to take power naps that last only minutes long while they work. Most likely, this is why Durant has Truant, cause it is referencing a worker ant's horrible sleep schedule that leaves them weak and sleep-deprived.
Or maybe it’s because the ability is called “true ant”

what they should of did with the slow start ability was have it so regigigas would regain about 20% of the attack and speed stat that has been halved per turn until on the 5th turn where both of it's stats are the way they should be.
Hell no. Regigigas has the same amount of base stats as freakin Groudon and Kyogre, the diference is that they have a positive ability while Regi has a negative one.
Either remove this ability (which doesnt make sense) or buff his stats to monstrous levels (like 800+).
@@walaceandrade4046 Make it half his stats for 2 turns. This encourages the trainer to have actual strategy to keep it alive. After the time, max out Regigigas' attack, sp. attack and speed for the rest of the battle. This includes if you switch it out. If taking Gigas' stats to max is too much, give all his stats a boost of 1 level and make all of his moves get STAB. This may be a bit OP, but Pokémon made Mega Rayquaza.
The thing about slow start is, that it actually could've been good. Instead of hindering Regigigas for five turns, it could've instead boosted all of its stats at the end of each turn, making it so that it slowly gets more powerful throughout the battle as it wakes up. That would have been awesome.
Or let regigigas use protect and rest cause for some reason it can't
@@sharkshrek4154 Until gen 8. Also, that doesn't fix the problem. You have to waste a slot on a move whose only purpose is to stall out Regigigas' terrible ability. And in the meantime, opponents could use that turn to set up.
@@samuelsoliday4381 if regigigas could learn counter, that could help, honestly they should let regigigas learn movies to support with it's bad ability like more moves that do damage from it's defense, weight, or it gets hurt, stronger moves or let it use recover.
Idea: Slow Start works for 3 turns only.
You don't understand how incredibly broken that would be with boosts after each turn for simply existing

I think illuminate has a simple "fix". Keep what it already does (because some people can find a use for it) but also add the effect of lowering the opponents accuracy. It makes perfect sense to me; illuminate implies a bright light, and a bright light in my face while trying to aim would definitely make me worse lol.
I have a burning passion against slow start in particular though, it singlehandedly turned a really cool legendary into the laughing stock of battles.

Legendaries have never been important aside from the story ones and shiny hunting. Most people stop playing the game when they finish the story and end game content so there's no real point in having that many legendaries in the game.
I always thought that the abilities that boost atk were meant to actually help a Pokémon with poor atk in the first place. Like Ledian for example Iron Fist can be beneficial when combined with Life Orb. The only draw back is you have to heal Ledian every few turns. There's also Metronome. Boosting attack power at the cost of repeating an attack isn't such a big deal unless an enemy uses Torment on Ledian

As i always say, Run Away should have the effect in battle that the user can switch whatever happens (in other words, Run Away Pokemon would be immune to trapping like Ghost types does)which actually would be pretty decent instead of being completely useless. Also Illuminate should boosts Electric type attacks cause well it uses light.
Run Away is a perfect ability for crossing Diglet Cave
I think illuminate should be a quick claw where it activates sometimes in double battles and draws fire, could be neat. Also honey gather could lower the enemies evasion, like a permanent sweet scent
Thank you for mentioning Entrainment, I was very irritated to see Durants truant making this list. Maybe a horrible ability. But that strategy itself proves the ability isn’t useless
There's also something else.
Smallant did a pokemon black no EXP challenge, and he swept the elite 4 and the champion with a Durant after some setup.
Fun fact:the reason why rotom fan has levitate is because in platinum rotom fan was still the same type as a normal rotom so it could still be hit by ground and was given levitate and they never changed it
Fan: so what’s your hidden ability
Delibird: vital spirit-
Fan: but that’s one of your normal abilities

Vital Spirit boosts the chance of finding higher leveled Pokemon, so Vital Spirit is better than Insomnia.

Vojtee Footgames no, it was in gen 4
Vojtee Footgames no, in Gen 2, the Special stat was splitted into Special Attack and Special Defense
@@vojtaane you're thinking of the special stat split, wherein gen 2 made pokemon no longer just have 1 special stat and split it into special attack and special defense. The physical/special split was introduced in gen 4, making moves physical or special individually, rather than all moves of a type being either physical or special
Actually, Vital Spirit is slightly different than Insomnia because Vital Spirit greatly increases your chances of finding the highest possible level of Pokémon in the wild.
Also Rotom-Fan's ability was only useless after gen 4. In gen 4, Rotom's typing did not change when inhabiting different appliances. It was always an electric/ghost type, no matter what.
Cherrim with Solarblade is also incredible and is slightly stronger than Solarbeam. Plus it doesn't hinder special attack at all, so Flower Gift can easily be used with moves like Weather Ball and Giga Drain.
Nice video, I didn't know about Delibird's Vital Spirit/Insomnia.

@@boneclaimingquixote320 wow... OP should have made a comment about this. Good thing you pointed it out.
Here's how I'd have improved some of these flaws:
- Give Delibird Snow Cloak as its hidden ability instead of Insomnia
- Have Minus boost Special Defense instead of Special Attack, then have Plus and Minus only work with each other instead of themselves
- Make Honey have an in-battle effect and Honey Gather work in battle
- Make Run Away so that alongside its previous capabilities, the user cannot be trapped by Mean Look, Block, etc.
- Give Illuminate the same effect as a Bright Powder in battle
I think i have a way to fix Plus/Minus and Delibird's situation,
for Plus/Minus change it to Ups Sp.Atk if you have another Plus or Minus in the party (caps at 1 boost), that way if you do have two plus or minus in the team, they get the boost even if they are in a solo fight
Delibird can change one of the prevent sleep abilities with Early Bird ability, that would be better
for Illuminate, give it the ability to lower foe's accuracy by 1
The reason why delibird has Insomnia and vital spirit us because on Christmas eve kids have trouble sleeping because they're exited and want to see santa and delibird is based off Santa

Slaking is still fun to use in playthroughs tbh. It’s pretty fun to have a Pokémon with the stats of a box art legendary at level 36. It can only attack every other turn, but will usually ohko in the first turn anyways. And in gen 3, you can give it hyper beam and the recharge turn is just the loafing turn anyways and hyper beam was a physical attack. So it’s pretty great in gen 3 especially
Pretty sure the Recharge happens AFTER the loafing turn in Gen 3. Meaning you lose a total of 3 turns for one powerful attack
@@danikirk5774 Nope, I've used it in Emerald and used hyper beam without losing 3 turns. It can't use items or switch out during the recharge/loafing turn though, but it hits such big damage with that one hyper beam anyways. Silk scarf, plus STAB, using Slaking's attack stat makes hyper beam such a strong move in gen 3
I'm glad Michael agrees with my feelings on Archeops, I've gone through so many useless arguments where people claim that Archeops would be really broken without defeatist... Those people just happen to have ZERO proof, they exaggerate how powerful its stats are AND it's just horrendous how uneducated those comments are.
Archeops wouldn't get anywhere close to ubers without defeatist, those arguments are extremely bothersome and they have no thought process whatsoever.
tbh archeops doesnt care about its ability, since it gets oneshot anyway. - It was part of the metagame in b/w-times, cause acrobatics with air gem.

Flower gift, I love that ability I had a Kartana with Flower Gift in an ultra moon randomized nuzlocke, along with a drought Gyarados & Kartana swept pretty much everything
Damp on Jellicent was probably meant more for triple battles, since that's the generation it was introduced in
Plus/Minus also let you benefit from Magnetic Flux and Gear Up in doubles (+1 to both defenses and +1 to both attacks respectively). Being able to Cosmic Power and/or Work Up both Pokemon on your side of the field on top of the Plus/Minus synergy can get real crazy, especially with Role Play and Entrainment opening up your partner options tremendously (I've seen somebody run a doubles strat with Mega Charizard Y getting Plus from a Plusle, and then throwing around Plus boosted, sun-boosted, Helping Hand boosted STAB Heat Wave, an effective 500 base power attack that hits both opponents, after only a single turn of setup). Being primarily useful in the doubles format =/= useless.
Using Damp to prevent Explosion can be useful over immunity-ing the hit and letting them faint, because if you trap something that you otherwise wall completely, they can't Explosion out of desperation just to get out of the unwinnable matchup and prevent you from setting up a sweep. They get to just sit there and watch you pile on whatever ridiculous setups you want. Same if you trap something that wants to set up for its team (hazards, screens, trick room, etc.) and blow up to get off the field.
It's like the move Grudge: it's worse than Destiny Bond on paper, until you find an extremely specific setup that can buy you truckloads of momentum to totally clean somebody out. Like if you have a Rock/Ground opponent and you can Grudge away its Rock option, it stops being a threat to Flying types and could become setup fodder, and that free time could give you enough room to click the "gg" button. Very specific =/= useless.
And Moxie Pyroar is covering up a weakness, not doubling down on a strength like other Moxie users. Like how Rotom Heat is using Levitate to cover up a double weakness, while Carnivine is using Levitate to cover up a resistance. See, if you pick something off with Pyroar, even if the KO comes from a special attack, then both of its attacks are roughly even, and it becomes much harder to just plop a Blissey in front of it and laugh in Pyroar's face, something that non-Moxie Pyroar is much, MUCH more vulnerable to. Especially when you have Moxie and Wild Charge to threaten Water types that would otherwise wall you completely. And if you can score a second knockout, Pyroar hits HARDER on the physical side than it does on the special side.
Flower Gift is good on Cherrim for basically all of these reasons. It boosts physical attack because THAT ONE is the one that Cherrim needs boosted, so it's not totally helpless against special walls, AND juicing up your partner in doubles shouldn't be totally counted out, especially if Cherrim has Helping Hand. Flower Gift + Helping Hand hits harder than Pure Power, and that's not counting the boost to fire moves from the sun, AND Flower Gift is also basically a free Light Screen. It's very specific, but can be absurdly powerful in that specific context.
Sorry for the giant wall of text; I'm a bit of a Pokemon scientist, so these are the things that jump out at me. Most of the rest of the video is reasonably on point. Even with Swords Dance, Iron Fist Ledian is a joke. Slow Start takes entirely too long to get going when Regigigas ALSO loses access to Rest and Protect, so it can't stall for time AND needs to switch out to Heal Bell away Toxic because it CAN'T get its act together otherwise (with Protect and Rest, it would probably be "okay". Not "great", just "okay"). Levitate on Fan Rotom is just there for consistency, so it ends up being redundant. And Illuminate having NO effect in PvP is just stupid.
Loved reading the wall. There are more useless abilities in the game. Like Klutz, Stall and limber on stunfisk.
@@sudeeppednekar8355 Klutz is beautiful if you're clever. You can use Entrainment to turn off their item and ability with one move, Trick them a Choice item at your leisure instead of being forced to do it turn one (which also means you're immune to being tricked a choice item), you can Trick an Assault Vest to permanently Taunt somebody (something basically impossible to do otherwise), you can outspeed somebody to Trick them a Lagging Tail or Iron Ball, and so on.
You can really ruin somebody's day if you hit the right target. 99% of people using Blissey would hate to end up with an Assault Vest, because most people run it with Toxic, Protect, and Softboiled. Nobody wants to run Blissey with Seismic Toss and nothing else. Lagging Tail makes you go last even in Trick Room, so you can even screw up sets like that.
Anything holding a Lagging Tail is just going to get revenge killed by basically anything. Klutz is a huge commitment, and takes a lot of planning, but it can completely destroy the keystone holding somebody's team together if used right. It can work out like Damp, but Klutz is way easier to use because it doesn't just counter one move.
But Limber on Stunfisk only saves you from Paralysis if you get Soak'd, and I cannot imagine somebody going into a battle with the intent to Soak a Stunfisk so they could Paralyze a slow Pokemon for some reason, instead of using Soak to hit Poison and Steel types with Toxic. Or, you know, a Water type just smacking Stunfisk senseless with a STAB Water move. Pokemon can get really technical and there's a lot of room for finesse, but sometimes a big, dumb "slap as hard as I can" works better.
Is there a tldr version of your message
@@PixieOfTheSewers In short: Pokemon is an extremely complicated game with literally millions of combinations. Some things are very narrow or hard to use, but almost nothing is COMPLETELY useless. Sometimes a slightly-less-good option can work better than "the best" option, because it's harder to predict.
Even if an ability is completely redundant or outright bad on purpose, technically anything could theoretically BECOME useful in doubles, thanks to Skill Swap and Role Play. Elements in Pokemon tend to be "very niche" or "difficult to use", not really "completely worthless".
