While this is within the generation, Terapagos' Normal form was revealed first in the 2nd episode of Pokémon Horizons, more than half a year before its game debut in the Indigo Disk DLC. Nothing was known about it except that it looked like the Terapagos that was revealed beforehand, so all we could do was speculate on what it was.

I am 30 years old and Munchlax became my favorite Pokémon after Destiny Deoxys came out when I was 9, and it is STILL my favorite Pokémon. Time feels faster when youre a kid, and it felt like it took forever (it kind of did, 2 or 3 years) for Munchlax to be in a mainline game, but I saw him in XD in 2005, Mystery Dungeon in 2006, and Dash on my birthday in early 2007 before Diamond and Pearl finally released in late 2007. And to this daybhes my favorite Pokémon, and it was all because the Pokémon Company worked so hard to "sneak" munchlax into being the gen 4 Pikachu through all these cameos in pretty much everything.

I wouldn't consider that, unless you want to consider forms exclusive to third releases, "pre-generation" reveals... Despite already well inside that generation.
I'm still think it's a massive missed opportunity that they didn't reveal/tease an early gen 8 pokemon in the Detective Pikachu movie. It was literally the perfect place to do it as it was a movie released globally in actual theaters and all eyes would be on it. I would've loved to see like, a single wooloo getting a little scene to itself like the lickitung on the subway did. Would've been super hype especially considering how pokemon, as you said, hasn't teased stuff like that in a while.
Thats so weird cuz i was literally wondering what polemon were released a generation before their respective game just yesterday, and then i saw your video pop up today and you just uploaded it 2 days ago. Crazy coincidences happen like that sometimes
It's a common misconception that Lucario replaced Mewtwo in Brawl. The developers intended for Mewtwo to be in the game, but he was cut due to time constraints. The two are also not similar to each other aside from their neutral special moves sharing a texture and having similar mechanics.
Donphan’s reveal had us all by a chokehold. Paired with that FIRE version of the Pokemon theme song, it was the most hype thing that happened that year.
i’ve only seen Pikachu’s Vacation in the movie theaters in kindergarten when Pokémon The First Movie was out, but i’m 30 now & i still mindlessly sing the “Vacation’s Where I Wanna Be” song at work like at least once a week
A little off topic, but Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea was my favorite movie. They did Manaphy justice by giving it great chemistry with May. I just wish the ending had more May and Manaphy instead of Ash going full on Super Saiyan.
This is late, but there is a fanfiction where the characters relive their journeys up through Sinnoh, and a lot changes because they know what will happen... for the most part. One of the most satisfying changes (well two, technically) is what is done for the end of the Jirachi and Manaphy movies. Let's just say, May goes full Mama Ursaring on the pirate Phantom.
I remember distinctly that Elekid was introduced in the anime as a cameo in the Orange islands series. Tracy spotted it first and made a sketch of what he saw
I wanted to mention how many of these pokemon also debuted in the TCG a generation early (almost exclusively in Japan and usually as promos or tie-in decks), but in my search for examples I found a particularly interesting one in Kecleon (001/P). It was distributed to people who went to see the Celebi movie in Japanese theaters, and on the surface it seems like just any normal card, but what's actually interesting is that there's 4 different versions of it, each with different e-Reader data featuring not just the green and purple colors, but also a blue and an orange color version that have never been used in any way outside of the data from those e-cards, only referenced by the art of a future Kecleon card (Chilling Reign 122).
I really appreciate your perspective because it was very similar to mine! I’m willing to bet we’re no more than a few years apart from eachother! What a time to be alive!
A very small and easy to forget example you forgot about: While not in the Anime, within your bedroom in Sun/Moon/Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon, you can see a poster which shows Gigantimax Toxtricity
10:41 For some reason, Here in Mexico, Munchlax appeared in the Gen 3 Tazos, That always confused me because the Tazo didn't list him having an evolution, despite it being obvious it was a baby Snorlax
Correction Donphans name was revealed before the movie on the very cards you actually showed. I had a couple of those and that's how I knew it was called Donphan.
The fact that you’ve got a personal connection to the gen 2 reveals makes this video so much better. Way more Ernst and personal than just sounding like you’re reading off Wikipedia or something
The amount of nostalgia hit me so hard I actually cried. Kids nowadays will never understand the hype and thrill of seeing a new pokemon revealed early in a short or movie. From a fellow Snorlax and Munchlax enjoyer, loved this video!
I remember we use to expeculate about Ho-Oh at school and we only found out its name when gold release over here. also lets not forget Marril been name Pikablue lol
There is an other of a Pokemon who could have been one : Meltan. It was revealed in Pokemon Go after USUM, and personnaly I though it was the same type of teasing : a Pokemon from the next generation. And because it wasn't playable in SM or USUM, only Let's Go (but it's a difficult game to classify, and other previous revealed Pokemon could be played in some spin-off games) before being playable in a classical RPG game : Sword and Shield. So I though Meltan (and by extension, Melmetal) was a gen 8 Pokemon But without the National Dex (even in 7th gen we lost the national dex, even if all Pokemon were coded in the games) it's difficult to have a proof to classify, and even in Pokemon Go they're placed in "unknown region". So I feel like every pokedex online just choose to put them by default on the 7th gen, because the 8th gen start with their starter... but that's all
I wish I would have remembered to bring up Meltan in the video but to me it’s more of a generation 7.5 Pokémon. Because although it wasn’t playable in Sun and Moon, it was playable in Lets Go P&E, which is classified as a Gen 7 game. Also Meltan and Melmetal are special cases because they weren’t created to promote Gen 8 at all they were made to promote Pokemon GO, a non main series game which is the first and last time that has happened since.
As a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon enthusiast, it was so cool being able to get statues of Lucario, Weavile, Mime Jr. And Bonsly! I vividly remember the transition period from Gen 3 to Gen 4! It was such an exciting time in my childhood! And quick correction, Sylveon (Gen 6) was the first time we saw cross gen evos since Gen 4 (not Gen 8). I kind of sucks because there are mons like Emolga and Alomomola that really do feel like they should have evolved from older ones (ex Pachirisu and Luvdisc). And then Gen 6’s dex felt like it had room for some more cross gen evos since it was pretty minimal (minus the megas). But I guess that makes sense since they had to create 3D models for all the mons. And then fortunately we got regional forms in Gen 7 with cross gen evos returning in both Gen 8 and Gen 9! Anyways, great vid! You mentioned a lot of mons that I forgot were introduced early! Really shows how much research you put into this! 🙌
I remember seeing gen 2 pokemon in gen 1 media as a kid and reasoned that there would be a gen 2 coming out and it was confirmed for me in a magazine I had to get.
To be fair though, Gen 5 did sort of act like a soft reboot to the pokemon games, not to mention it was the first games to not introduce evolutions/pre-evolutions to older pokemon.
@@dse763Not really. I have both movies. They are nothing alike. Lucario and the Mystery of Mew has Jedi-like aura powers and Lucario dies for the sole purpose of milking the tears of children. Zoroark is a “mama” figure to Zorua and the villains motives for using them actually makes sense. While no one dies in it, I would argue it’s darker than the Lucario movie. Also seems to be trying to pander to the moms in the audience like what the 3rd movie did. And also has a complicated environmental plot line involving Celebi and the villain gaining psychic powers of foresight to predict the markets and make money and trying to find the Time Ripples so he can keep his ability. Both movies are solid but not very similar outside of maybe appealing to furries.
@@ankuk099 true. But most of the movies were used to market mythical Pokémon anyway. There’s only a few handful of the over 20 movies that don’t have mythical Pokémon in them. Only 2000, 3, and Heroes comes to mind as not having any mythical event characters.

getting statues of not yet released gen 4 pokemon in gen 3 pmd rescue team was awesome
I remember everyone thinking Marill name was going to be Pikablu.
Likable is Mariela nickname. Just you brudda

When i was a kid i recorded every saturday mirning lineup on KidsWB
When the new Advanced Battle intro hit and revealed Lucario like that (at the time, didnt know its name)
But i went back after the show to re-watch the recording (also before youtube had every into/outri for any show available) omg i just kept pausing like “WHAT IS THAT?!?!!! ITS SOOOO COOOOOOOOOOLLLLLPL!!!!”
I like your attitude and your love for the franchise. I like that you´re not rushing to sound hyper excited about stuff, you´re genuine. I like genuine people! Subbed!
You forgot about dusk form lycanroc, tho forms are sometimes still revealed early in the anime.
Elekid was kind of revealed in an Orange Island episode. Tracey sketched the top of it's head. But it wasn't a full reveal. Misty Meets Her Match.
Thats so weird cuz i was literally wondering what polemon were released a generation before their respective game just yesterday, and then i saw your video pop up today and you just uploaded it 2 days ago. Crazy coincidences happen like that sometimes
serendipitous
The "sponsor" read in the grocery store 😂
I remember seeing Blaziken for the first time that was so hype. Great video!
As a kid I had a VCR copy of the first movie and it had Pikablu on the back. Wish I knew where it was
mine's probably lost in the storage shed
It's a common misconception that Lucario replaced Mewtwo in Brawl. The developers intended for Mewtwo to be in the game, but he was cut due to time constraints. The two are also not similar to each other aside from their neutral special moves sharing a texture and having similar mechanics.
Donphan’s reveal had us all by a chokehold. Paired with that FIRE version of the Pokemon theme song, it was the most hype thing that happened that year.
I'm just gonna say that the sound choice for this video truly snapped be back to childhood IMMEDIARELY
Seeing Gen 3 Pokemon animated pre-digital era is kinda surreal.
If May appeared?
The pre movie shorts were and still are the best! More, please!
Genuinely laughed at 9:40 nice video man keep up the great work
It was magical to find new Pokémon yourself as a kid without the internet spoiling you, specially the first movie
Very interesting video, thank you for compiling all this and looking at the different medias!
Donphan is still to this day my favorite pokemon because of that reveal.
Blaziken’s introduction was so friggin’ ICONIC!! I remember being a kid jaw dropped to the ground! Good times.
i’ve only seen Pikachu’s Vacation in the movie theaters in kindergarten when Pokémon The First Movie was out, but i’m 30 now & i still mindlessly sing the “Vacation’s Where I Wanna Be” song at work like at least once a week
I've never commented liked and subbed to a video in my life but that sponsor clip was awesome haha. Great video buddy.
A little off topic, but Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea was my favorite movie. They did Manaphy justice by giving it great chemistry with May. I just wish the ending had more May and Manaphy instead of Ash going full on Super Saiyan.
Manaphy loves you.
-May and Manphy
This is late, but there is a fanfiction where the characters relive their journeys up through Sinnoh, and a lot changes because they know what will happen... for the most part. One of the most satisfying changes (well two, technically) is what is done for the end of the Jirachi and Manaphy movies. Let's just say, May goes full Mama Ursaring on the pirate Phantom.
No reveal was more epic than Blaziken beating Charizard to show Hoenn was on the way that moment lives with me forever😢
I think ho-oh reveal from episode 1 was the best
I appreciate the Puzzle League music during Togepi section
Victini was also revealed in a teaser that was shown in Japanese theaters alongside the Zoroark movie
This is a Great video! It felt really nostalgic 😊 brought back the good old days 😊 keep up the great work
A very small and easy to forget example you forgot about:
While not in the Anime, within your bedroom in Sun/Moon/Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon, you can see a poster which shows Gigantimax Toxtricity
growing up with pokemon, it was always fun to see the silhouettes of all these pokemon
Ooooh shoot! Took me a while, but thats pokemon pinball music!
Nice 😊
love your videos man! Calming way to spend some time.
The amount of nostalgia hit me so hard I actually cried. Kids nowadays will never understand the hype and thrill of seeing a new pokemon revealed early in a short or movie. From a fellow Snorlax and Munchlax enjoyer, loved this video!
I remember how people were loving how munchlax was revealed in the Deoxys movie!
Miramax did rights for Hoenn.
So I though Meltan (and by extension, Melmetal) was a gen 8 Pokemon
But without the National Dex (even in 7th gen we lost the national dex, even if all Pokemon were coded in the games) it's difficult to have a proof to classify, and even in Pokemon Go they're placed in "unknown region".
I chose Torchic as my starter when I got Sapphire as a kid because I loved the battle between Charizard and Blaziken
Getting Lucario rank in Red Rescue Team was probably the most hyped thing in my 6 year old life
I remember the opening of the first film with the Donphan in the theatre. Theatre blew up
I remember seeing gen 2 pokemon in gen 1 media as a kid and reasoned that there would be a gen 2 coming out and it was confirmed for me in a magazine I had to get.
Really nice video especially for us that got to experience since gen one to now amazing history journey
I wish that more gen 5 Pokemon were shown in gen 4, aside from just Zorua and Zoroark.
To be fair though, Gen 5 did sort of act like a soft reboot to the pokemon games, not to mention it was the first games to not introduce evolutions/pre-evolutions to older pokemon.
Zoroark Master of Illusion was literally Lucario and the Mystery of Mew for gen 5.
@@princesspikachu3915but both movies had the two first mythical pokemon starred in though
@@ankuk099 true. But most of the movies were used to market mythical Pokémon anyway. There’s only a few handful of the over 20 movies that don’t have mythical Pokémon in them. Only 2000, 3, and Heroes comes to mind as not having any mythical event characters.
Technically, we could count the Paldea starters with Team Rocket going to Paldea because they first appeared in the anime before the Horizons series and before Scarlet and Violet came out. I know they were revealed in early 2022. In terms of reveals,we can include them.
Movie 9 will always be one of my best. They had great music
The 2nd movie and the 5th movie?
Feels like I'm back in 2012 watching these fact videos. Keep it up.
WHY ARE THE COMMENTS UNRELATED TO THE VIDEO 😭😭
Dude chill
Why are you typing in all caps?
Togepi may have been in the gen 2 dex, but there are hints and elm himself even confirms that togepi doesnt come from Johto. Togepi more than likely originates from what is now known as sinnoh, as its evolutionary line was very prevalent in hisui and it can even be found naturally in the gen 4 games. I think this is some cool information considering it was originally revealed in the anime so much earlier
They forgot about gen 9 because in that team rocket series they were hunting for the gen 9 starter and we see them in the anime
I said the same thing. I totally agree
Man I loved Misty’s Togepi, I remember that one scene where meowth makes Togepi eggs. Still funny to think of lol
Man, that sponsor segment was so great. Makes me wish I could be a sponsor!
The first pokemon movie featured Donphan and I was stumped when my friends looked up to me for answers lol 😵💫
Munchlax and Bonsly in Gale of Darkness blew my mind as a kid lol
Was Dawn born, yet?
i have never been more hyped for anything in my life, we got marril elekid and togepi leaks and i think magby and sentret. new pokemon was like finding the pyramids for me as a kid, ruins of alph , i used to write in unowns lol
Dude congrats. This was a big video for you. Hope you keep finding inspiration
There was something special about the late 90s early 00s pokemon mania, such a wonderful childhood memory.
Growing up I was actually more hyped for early reveal pokemon more than the actual generation of anime itself.
Glad you also mentioned the Pikablu topps card. As a kid i was SO SURE it had to be called Pikablu because of that.
Gen three was the golden age of pokemon we lived through such an amazing time I was lucky enough to be a kid during that time and enjoy to the fullest
This video is an absolute banger keep up the amazing work
Glad I'm not the only one who thought Lucario was a legendary Pokémon after watching the movie😅
4Kids have rights with eight seasons.
@brianodonnell4496 yup
@@e2k102 Especially, all eight movies.
@@brianodonnell4496until like the first few episodes with battle frontier
Bro literally didnt even talk about Alolan Exeggutor in X and Y, criminal.
Wild how many Pokemon they revealed early when I was a kid, deadass makes me wonder how I was able to justify it in my head cause I don't remember spending a ton of time wondering who or where these new designs were or came from, maybe I just accepted they must appear in future games 😂
When I saw Blaziken as a kid, I totally freaked out.
These movies are peak childhood
I remember my dad catching me watch the Weavile episode and saying “what are those? They’re ugly”
Pokemon using hyper beam in the movies is like peak pokemon fights because my *god* did they make those beams feel POWERFUL
I like to think the reason why the Pokedex didn't recognise Ho-oh was because it was facing the wrong direction.
Could Terapagos technically count because while the gen 9 games were already out, Terapagos did appear in the anime (only in Japan) before it was released in the dlc
Not a gen early technically but it that could count
It's still Gen 9 though, this is only for Pokes released a generation early
7:25 Wynaut also appeared in Camp Pikachu, even interacting with Wobbuffet in the short
This was a fun & fascinating watch. Thank you!
Blaziken was easily my favorite early reveal when they first aired that episode. Blaziken's answer to Charizard's flying was to leap really high in the sky as if he was the Hulk was one of the coolest moments in the series. Even to this day, Blaziken is still my favorite Pokemon.
