    Honestly Geeta's biggest offense is how she's repeatedly hyped up as being the #1 champion , best of the best etc. and then when you finally face her she doesn't even live up to half the hype

      @lunarpurge8494 Рік тому +103

      Honestly yeah, a slight team shift and she could have been far stronger, I said this before on another post but with her design and hair and I feel like if Geeta started with her ace, it could step up poison but can you picture if she ended it with a shiny Kingambit? Not only does a Kingambit have similar features to her but it would be the first Champion with a Shiny as well. Plus with it's ability to get stronger with each pokemon lost it could very well be very very strong and you would remember it.

      @@ejnagatoshi8551THIS! Very much this! Thank you for saying it! Geeta has a very strict point of view about power and strength that keeps everyone stressed, that alone makes me despise her... but after being fed about their behavior, I get to finally battle her and... and... she is weaker than a Youngster?! @thiperativo I understand the view on gym leaders. They have to be tough, they have to live up to the name of gym leader. You really think Brock only has a level 10 geodude and 12 onix? Thats rhetorical you don't have to answer that.

      @@jetsettech8804 See... the thing is... I do believe League members need to represent a challenge, ON THEIR OWN ACCORD and unique way. But Geeta forbids Larry to be a Normal Type Elite Four member, because SHE thinks Normal isn't suited for the challenge of an Elite - her prejudice is very clear and I won against her with a full Normal Type just to add insult to her defeat! And it's not just about how she treats the leaders and elite members... because she, herself, isn't strong to represent the League or say anything about them, but she constantly impose this problematic idea of strength (that she does not apply for herself)! I was expecting her to be really tough, after all of that - but when I finished the battle for the first time I realised that she probably does it just to be mean, not because she believes in it.

    I feel like if Marlon was in Black and White 1, there wouldn't be as many people that dislike him. Because in BW1, Team Plasma kept their more evil-esc stuff under the radar of the public. So having a character that's sort of like "Are they actually bad people?" would work very well and make sense! However, Marlon was in Black and White 2. And in that game before you meet him, Team Plasma already did what could be considered the equivalent of a terrorist attack on Opelucid City. So his question seems like he's either completely oblivious to what's going on, or he has the "they haven't done anything to me so they can't be that bad" kind of mindset. I don't know, maybe the words I'm saying don't make sense.

    • @youtube-kit9450
      @youtube-kit9450 5 місяців тому +14

      Absolutely. Marlon was written like a BW1 character in BW2. In BW2, everyone knows Team Plasma was a bunch of bullshit, Ghetsis was evil, and they did who knows what in the first games. Anyone still being like "nah, I don't believe it until I see it" isn't being a healthy sceptic, but an idiot at best or maliciously "sceptic" at worst, and doesn't help he basically acts like a dogwhistling "centrist". Doesn't help he only shows up in a super small part of the story, only seems to impede you and not help you at all in difference to the other gym leaders, and his team lineup is just... weak.

    • @Protofall
      @Protofall 4 місяці тому +8

      @@youtube-kit9450 Just to correct a small part of this. He's not completely useless. He's the reason you're even able to board the Plasma Frigate when you encounter it near his city, because he (somehow) deploys it's boarding platform, allowing you to enter it. Also, I don't see how he impedes you, he's not the one stopping your progress in that area (That would be Plasma and the Crustle blocking the cave exit).
      While I don't think he's that well written, I think his whole spiel about "You shouldn't just do the right thing, but also you should know why you're doing it" is there for Hugh's character development. Like Truegreen7 said, Hugh starts off as seeing all of Plasma as bad, but grows to realise its not so Black and White. Hugh's original goals of taking on Plasma were good intentioned, and a lot of them were indeed doing bad things. But by the end Hugh realises what he really cares about and, once Ghetsis' Team Plasma is stopped, he decides to help the Ex-Plasmas to re-unite more people with their lost pokemon. Hugh is present for both of Marlon's main speeches, which I don't think is a coincidence.
      I admit though that its kinda odd how he doesn't really know about Plasma and doesn't seem that concerned with them. He has that surfer dude vibe, but Flint from Sinnoh kind of did too and he wouldn't be happy with Plasma. Or maybe Humilau City is so remote prior to B2W2 that literally no one there was aware of Plasma? Dunno, it's still a stretch. Marlon needed a bit more time in the oven.

    One thing that struck me with Chairman Rose is that, as he announced bringing about the darkest day, he maintained a gentle composure with kind eyes that betrayed his implied psychosis. I definitely like Hop's arc. He's the younger brother to the Champion, and that's all people see him as, so he's constantly under that pressure. He gradually starts to doubt himself because he can't best you and has too many expectations of himself. He keeps experimenting with his team, finding stronger Pokemon, until he reaches a breakthrough and snaps out of it, going back to his old reliables and tries to develop his own path
    Hop's story just shadows what it's like to be the sibling of a popular figure and how they need to develop their own path, because following the popular figure's path usually leads to disaster

      I adored Hop and his arc. I loved seeing him grow from trying to live up to his brother, but ends up loosing to us. I actually liked that i felt bad slowly killing his dream, because deep down, he knows he can't stand toe to toe with his brother, but we might... and that literally causes him to rethink his entire life purpose.

    You know what's really the worst part about Rose and his team??? They didn't need that plot.
    There was a subplot of adults wanting to protect kids and kids wanting to prove themselves to adults.
    All they had to do was modify the motivation for stopping the MC and make it that Eternatus was waking up on it's own and had nothing to do with Rose and Rose was just trying to stop it...
    It would allow all of the events to happen in the exact same way, changing nothing for the gameplay (just the dialogue) and it would drastically improve everything...
    Think about it. Bede wants to prove himself to chairman Rose and Opal wants to nurture him.
    Hop wants to prove himself to his big brother while Marnie wants to prove herself to Team Yell, the adults that love and support her.
    And it's a journey about you, the protagonist proving yourself to the region.
    And it works even more when you realize how much Rose is doing for the region and how he's kinda over working himself. By seeing all the young people get together and save the region, it could make Rose realize that he can rely on the younger generation and take a break he deserves.

    I have seen a lot of negative sentiment about nemona, I think this might clear up a lot of things. People hate when the rival chooses the starter that is weak to yours. In the very beginning of the game she wanted to choose a starter to raise alongside you to hopefully encourage you to be a formidable rival. I'm sure she intentionally chose the weaker one to give the upper hand to the player. In the post game one of the conversations she has with you and her room is that she always goes easier on other people so everyone can enjoy the experience. People avoid battling her because she is seen as someone who has a natural gift for battle. Once she sees your battle prowess and your eagerness to challenge her, it sparks the drive to do better and to find a worthy rival. I find her arc way more compelling than blue ever will be and I played since the very beginning in '98. It was so refreshing to see!

      I also saw alot of hate towards Nemona in the comment section. I don't think Nemona is a bad character. Nemona is that one nerd in class who is bored of always being first place in class. She is a girl with the hunger of competition which is why she was excited to see a new student in her class hoping that the student (yourself) will be a good rival.
      Even this doesn't sum up the fact that she is a total stranger and makes you think that maybe she did this to every new student at school or like Why would this girl choose a random ass guy to be her rival? Like there were a lot of blank and doubting spaces in this scenario. Which is why i think she is not the best rival or incomplete rival in my opinion. The idea of a strong trainer wanting to become the rival of a beginner is a cool concept but they could've done the writing a bit better in the start.
      But everything else battles, personality, character design were great, loved it.

    Am I alone in thinking that the developers of the XY games and the XY anime were on completely different wavelengths? The former - chastised for being way too easy and hardly using Mega Evolution, which was a brand new gimmick this generation promoted. The latter - rightfully considered the best the anime has ever been with its gorgeous animation accompanied by a 3D camera, and most of the characters (namely, Ash, Greninja, Serena, and Alain just to name four) having really satisfying arcs, especially with Team Flare actually displaying a threat that places them as the best villain team in the anime specifically. There's just something about Geeta and Nemona's relationship that feels different. Like, Geeta talks to Nemona differently to everyone else, even you after you become champion. And she definitely doesn't talk to Nemona like she does to her staff or coworkers.
    One thing I won't understand though is why people make her out to be an antagonist (potentially for the DLC). Geeta's not a bad person, she's just a little overbearing (*ahem* like Nemona).

That alone makes me wonder what else she is hiding and we know she is the first champion of the region and all but there's no way she's at full strength with that pushover team of hers we still don't know much about her she may be quite kind and all but we don't know what type of work she's always busy with.

    I will die on the hill of Lillie (well, characters in general) being one of the best things in SM/USUM, it really marked the point in the series where we actually started getting stories and games which were written competently enough. Gen V had some good moments, but the writing seemed a bit all over the place, it had good ideas, but apparently nobody on the team knew exactly what to do (could also have been the working on more content, which the later entries have kind of dropped the ball on)
    That being said, Blue is a flat one dimensional jerk of a rival, but he works for the game he's in, I mean, it was gen I, gamefreak could barely fit the pokemon in the cartridge, let alone characters. Plus he's not done terribly either, so it's fine.
    As a side note, I do enjoy how SV has very bombastic lovable over the top characters, and most of the fanbase has agreed that Larry, charaterised more or less as "just some guy who doesn't get paid enough to be there" is the best in the game, I love it and him

      If your only experience of writing is pokemon games maybe. Lillie was fucking shit. She lives in a world where pre- schoolers can be trainers. She keeps watching us battle. Hell the stupid explanation for why we should not think ill of pokemon battles is because they want to do it ala BW. She also wants to help a pokemon that is being chased by pokemon trainers. The only reason she manages to help is because we can't tell her to fuck off. We could have left her after defeating Kommo- O I think it was and she would have been fucked. Because she couldn't put in youngster Joey levels of being a trainer. Not to mention we should have never went after her mother into ultraspace especially carrying a useless lump of space who can't actually do anything to protect herself. Taking the only known wat to control wormholes to the crazy lady who wanted to unleash pokemon through wormholes to wreck Alola. Hey Lillie calling your mom out is less important than Alola not getting wrecked by your crazy mother.
      She was better in USUM because she actually became a trainer and the game at one point or two acknowledges that taking someone who can't protect themselves in dangerous situations is stupid.

    • @TheNachmar
      @TheNachmar 5 місяців тому +11

      @jacquelineking5783 Did Lillie kill your parents or something? There's a reason I said "competently", not "good". Also, your gripes with Lillie seem to start off more as gripes with the concept of the pokemon world, but not everyone wants to be a trainer and in-story (regardless of your personal feelings) she's supposed to be your friend, and with the franchise being built around friendship, helping her is reasonable.
      Was she done better in USUM? Obviously , duh. I'd say Pokemon games have been getting more consistently better writing over the years. (With USUM coming after SM) It's just that hardware limitations masked GF's writing "skills" at first. But there might be a reason the commonly regarded as better written pokemon games are not developed by GameFreak.
      Also, "the only reason the plot progresses is because the MC can't tell the sidecharacter to fuck off" is one heck of a take for a game with a linear story...

    I think the reason a lot of people don't like Hop is because he's just not handled the best from a player perspective. He's too friendly and naive to be fun to take down, but he's also too competative for the fights to just feel like fun. He's also incredibly easy to beat. My Cinderace would almost always one shot his entire team even when I was only 2 or 3 levels higher than him. It combines to make honestly a kind of pitiful experience. I felt horrible beating him over and over, I felt like I was crushing this poor kid's dreams. A lot of people I've talked to feel the same way. So I think people don't like him as much because they just don't feel good about how the interactions with his character go.

    My first interaction with Looker was Pokémon Sun and he pretty much bought my appreciation for him lol.
    With Lillie, I thought she was cool, and I tend to like it when a game’s plot doesn’t revolve directly around the player, and Sun/Moon did it well. Also if I could copy her style in a darker color palette I absolutely would.
    I think that Nemona is amazing and it was her (along with Sada and a few Pokémon that I liked) that got me to try gen 9 at all, plus there’s something about the interactions with her that feel like she’s trying really hard to make it not awkward, which in turn sometimes makes it slightly awkward, to which I can relate.
    Lastly, Penny. And all the Team Star Bosses too. I feel their motives on a personal level. If I were given the opportunity I would help them before anyone else. Their backstory feels all too familiar to me, and so I empathize with her and her friends a whole lot.

    Is Brock problematic: it really depends on who you ask, I do see why people might not like him for being a womanizer and all, but he's still one of my fav anime characters cause despite his constant harassment, he's never rewarded for it, he's often dragged away or poisoned for his antics, which is how you can see it more as a comedy bit than a creepy thing;
    Whitney's Miltank, just the frickin cow man...
    I really don't got any probs with any hoen or sinnoh characters XD
    Iris was definitely done dirty in the anime, and in hindsight a lot of characters were done poorly anime wise, which sucks cause gen 5 has the 2nd best story. In the case of Iris it is annoying how they basically made her a bitch to Ash despite all her original team giving her too many problems to make her seem competent [like seriously you know you're doing something wrong when your own pokemon considers joining team rocket] And it kinda sucks that a lotta her development was offscreened when she returns for pokemon journeys as the champion, they basically offscreened her whole goal.
    Dianthe is definitely too easy for a champion, and really shouldn't have been in the final tourney in the anime...... but if i was to choose a controversial character it'd have to be bonney, mostly cause her anime adaptation annoyed me a lot.
    Lusamine's villain nerfing was definitely the worst thing alola did, they took one of the most interesting villains and tried to redeem her in the ultra games and the anime, i like Lusamine as a character but i feel like her character was greatly harmed trying to make her more likable, when we coulda just loved to hate her.
    I honestly have a hard time buying that Leon is the strongest ever tbh; but Rose is definitely the Prince Hans of pokemon, being an unnecessary twist villain just for the sake of having a twist villain....
    Geeta's team can be a pushover but underestimating her can be dangerous if your entire story team turns out to be weak to poison and rock type moves O-O Though in all honesty, Geeta isn't really meant to be liked, even in the relationships between other characters she isn't really many people's favorites. Hell when you do the gym leader rematches: Larry, Tulip and Rhyme all mention how they dislike the champion on a personal level, so having problems with her is definitely by design, and gamefreak being strategically inept

      As for Ryme and Tulip, both of them seem to dislike her because she harmed their egos in some accidental way. Ryme straight-up tries to pull the “does she know who I am” card, and Tulip only dislikes her because Geeta’s “style” clashes with hers. So they’re both kind of petty. Nobody else really expresses any issue with her.

      I’m of the opinion that gen 7 and 8 derive a lot of their plot and themes from gen 6. These, more than any other generations, 'copy' each other a lot, or at least attempt to fix stuff that didn’t work so well the first time.
      Case in point Lysandre is presented as a twist villain, his unveiling of his grand plan is supposed to be a surprise. The biggest problem with this is that it is not surprising in the slightest. Apart from the fact he dresses just like Team Flare, has Team Flare grunts hanging around in his cafe, and makes blatantly evil speeches, there is literally no one else introduced in the story, apart from AZ now that I think about it, that it could possibly be. There is no mystery to solve. There are no red herrings. I appreciate its not a mystery game where one of the big questions is "who could possibly be the villain" but he is presented as a twist villain regardless.
      Move on to gen 7, and you get Lusamine, who is also a twist villain. Again it’s not too much of a surprise, for she is immediately sus, and we see the Aether Foundation goons chasing Lillie in the prologue, but it is presented so much better. For one we are distracted by Team Skul for most of the game, Lusamine doesn’t even show up until late on, after Team Skul and Guzma have made appearances. Secondly, Aether Foundation are a genuinely good organisation (mostly) and are constantly shown doing nice things. All of this leaves genuine questions in your heads, you know that Aether must be up to no good thanks to the prologue, and lusamine's vibe, but as they don’t seem to be doing anything bad, whilst there is a different group stirring up trouble, makes it more satisfying and shocking when it is all revealed.
      Then we get to gen 8 and Rose genuinely is Lysandre all over again. Seriously Rose is introduced as a philanthropist, just like Lysandre, a prominent figure in the region who shows an interest in your journey, and keeps talking about making the world better. Where Lysandre is blatantly up to no good, and has a pretty selfish goal, Rose acts pretty chill throughout, the only red flag may be his endorsement of Bede and then coldly discarding him when he misbehaves, and later turns out to be evil in a 'shocking' twist. There are hints that Rose is up to no good throughout, but it is much more subtle than with Lysandre, and besides, there is another 'evil' team running around so you are distracted. Now I am also puzzled as to why they went this direction with a twist villain yet again, especially when he is so similar in concept to one we've already seen. It does feel like the writers were trying to do Lysandre again, but better. I’m not going to comment on whether he is or not, because I’m not interested in discussing their respective plans at this point, but I do think Rose is a more successful twist, by virtue of the better subtlety in its build up.
      I’m just pleased they did something different for Scarlet/Violet

    I think that Gordie is awesome. He is canonically considered to be a candidate to potential future champion and has a huge fanbase (granted I also really like Melony).
    Also, Rose plan does makes sense.
    While the energy from dynamax is pretty useful and used in pretty much every imaginable field in the Galar region, the wishing stars themselves (that are small parts of Eternatus that contain that energy) weren't unlimited. So he needed to recreate the events of the first darkest day in order for Eternatus to scatter wishing starts through the region once again. And for that he needed two things: to bring back the darkest day (a.k.a Eternatus) and a "hero" to defeat it (a.k.a Leon).
    Leon was vital for his plan (since he was making his plan based on his incomplete/inaccurate knowledge of the legend of Galar about "the hero" that saved the region, that was missing one of the ancient tapestries to complete the story, that had the location of the actual heroes that defeated Eternatus).
    He had Bede as his plan B in case Leon refused to participate in the plan. But he considered Bede unreliable due to his actions with the mural (this scene is REALLY important because it's meant to show Rose's strong ideals and how he cuts connections to anyone who goes against the well being of the Galar region in some way or another).
    The experiments required to keep Eternatus energized (by giving it the wishing stars that the secret branch of macrocosmos and Bede were collecting) also made it harder to control (that's why you hear explosions every single time you're near hammerlock, since that's where Eternatus was). So the plan couldn't be delayed anymore.
    His reunion with Leon wasn't exactly his first attempt to get Leon's cooperation but this one was specially important for this reason (hence why the ambush to Leon on his way to his dinner with Hop and the player and Oleana doing everything in her power to delay the arrival of Hop and the player in order for Rose to have enough time to convince him).
    Leon still considered the plan as too dangerous and declined and that's the moment where Rose saw Leon as he previously saw Bede. But he was still vital for his plan as "the hero" though (since he was a literal unbeatable champion), so he decided to let Eternatus awakening happen in a way he couldn't ignore (during the final battle of the gym challenge). Which worked but the only ones that could actually beat Eternatus were the two legendaries that originally defeated it, that in current times were summoned to save the day by Hop and the player just like what happened 3000 years ago when the ancestors of Swordward and Shieldbert found the relics after Calyrex teleported the entire forest.

      1. Piers
      2. Leon
      3. Raihan
      4. Gordie
      5. Kabu
      With number 2 to 5, they are either champion or implied champion level trainers due to their league card... while Piers is essentially implied to be the strongest trainer overall... but his downfall is that he doesn't use Dynamax/Gigamax, so the others best him with their nuke... but that didn't stop Piers coming close to defeat Raihan, but Raihan won due to his nuke.

      You're still not getting it. That wasn't the first time that Rose heard that kind of promise from Leon. That moment that you see in the game was just the last straw for him.
      Many people confused the idea of dynamax energy having the potential to last a thousand years with the wishing starts (the source of that energy) being unlimited. Rose was aiming to restore the amount of wishing stars required to keep having energy able to last a thousand years. Because the wishing stars are used for literally everything in the increasingly wishing stars dependent Galar region. But only Eternatus was able to produce them and the last time he did was 3000 years ago.

    What people don't realize is that Flint's team is themed around fire.
    He has 2 actual fire types, but others are related to flames.
    Steelix is an Onix that evolved through heat and pressure... while Drifblim is a hot air ballon.
    And finally, Lopunny is based off of bunny girls and play boy... meaning she is "hot"
    So Flints team actually makes a lot more sense than you'd think...

      @@CaptainObliviousV I like the idea that she's there just in case, it's why she never seems that worried. She knows that if you lose, her Garchomp will absolutely decimate Cyrus, but she's letting you take the spotlight to learn and grow as a trainer. I mean, compared to Rowan, Barry and Dawn/Lucas, she's awfully calm about the whole thing, considering it's a literal world-ending plot. She *knows* she can win.

    12:46 You can actually meet Kahili before the elite 4, it's just highly unlikely. You meet her in a cave near the professor's lab that is blocked off by rocks. You need the tourus ride pokemon to get through. The only reason I found out about this is because I was going for everything, and the flyium z was also located there. If you aren't looking for it, then you likely miss the cave, as it is tucked away in the corner.

    I didn't mind Hau as a rival in SM. I hated him in USUM though for one single reason; he was the champion fight. I would have been fine if he were shown to be serious about his goals but he was the same happy-go-lucky guy that approached fights with a half-hearted attitude. It felt insulting that he was the one to step up for the title instead of Kukui.
