Make Health Great Again
Good on you for pointing out a very important irony; overexercise can cause more harm than good
I’m getting back into my extended, prolonged fasts of 24+ hours. I feel it helps w my fat loss
Thanks for the videos on fasting. I just completed my first water-only fast and made it 60 hours. I'll try again for 120 hours in two weeks and build from there.
The most i ever did was 40 and i felt pretty good. Yesterday in did 21
I used to fast for up to two weeks when I was in my 30's. Now almost 70, it seems to be a lot harder. I will go for five days next week.
@@mark2073being a Carnivore I do 18 hours everyday and for a while I was fasting on Mondays from Sunday night until Tuesday afternoon.
@@andredaedone5 Wow, I barely knew fasting was a thing that normal people did until I started following High Intensity Health and a few others over the past few years.
I feel great eating once a day
I do OMAD carnivore and I’m working 24 hrs fasted sometimes on my ranch at 7200 ft altitude tons of sun ketones pumping at the end of the day, good to know it’s keeping me healthy!
What are sun ketones?
@@k14michael aliens
@@k14michael sorry, punctuation: tons of sun, ketones…
@@andrewrivera4029 I wouldn’t be surprised if down the line a study comes out that claims sun exposure increases ketone production and assimilation or something along those lines 😂
@@gabriel1095 no it’s the fasting that creates the ketones but I do benefit from living at altitude so when I visit back east I do not have any problems peddling mtn bike with my buddies, unfortunately there is no easy way, although bariatric therapy is extremely popular for cancer where people sleep in a high oxygen environment.
I lost a lot of muscle by fasting for too long with a very active lifestyle. I don't workout, but I am a 50 year old contractor who walks tens of thousands of steps on an off day. I just move a lot. So I found that eating just a very small amount of hamburg, steak, chicken or clean protein like that, in the morning, both breaks my fast and also keeps my protein in good shape. I no longer 'fast' like I did but I use many of the principles that I used to use, fasting was just a part of the puzzle.
I should add. I am 6 feet tall, weighed roughly 172-174 for a couple of years, then started intermittent fasting, went to 168 for a year, that's cool. Then all of the sudden I went to 164 and people were asking what was going on. I added a handful of nuts in the morning to break the fast, but then moved on to 2-3 ounces of protein so that I get better amino acids. Now I am 178, have good muscle and am feeling good.
I bet you look good too
WOW so you’re telling me you started off the day by inducing muscle protein synthesis???
It’s almost like when it comes to getting bigger body builders know what their talking about 😱
@@luisdelgado7764 I have a sister who is a spokesperson for a grocery store (dieticien/nutrician) and I trust weight lifters more than her, yes. Weightlifters actually have to get results, other people just talk, talk, talk.
I over exercise quite often, especially in the ocean. Therefore I don’t fast much. Good days, I may not eat for 14 - 15 hours but most days I try to have at least 11 - 12 hours break from eating. The priority should be on my sleep first.
Mike awesome job, but important thing that was left out. Fasting will naturally increase growth hormones inside for weight lifting
And "guess what" "for longevity" you can finish eating early, do fitness at end of work and have a LOT MORE autophagy (during night) as you've already started it Good with the fitness
Bodybuilding, we have our weeks of bulking, yes, but we do have a cutting period where we do go into a calorie deficit, especially 4 weeks out from showtime. It’s why we can drop into the single digits of body fat.
This message is one of your most important. You hit on all the key points.
Exercise in the morning gives you energy and clarity of thought to make the most out of your day. Plus you are being rewarded with excellent health ! I learn so much from your videos during my morning routines, Thanks.
Autophagy only works at cleaning intercellular processes. The channel should also talk about the external mechanism that clean outside of the cell. That’s as important as any.
Could you explain this like i'm 5?
Great information! Thank you!
With my fasting routine, I find it works best when I am fairly firm but not just ridiculous about it. During my water fasts, I do allow the occasional banana or brownie, I love brownies, and by making this minor change it has helped me get through five and even six day fasts without any problem.
Yes. Eating really does make the fast easier.
Are you trolling? Eating during your fast?? 😂
😂😂😂
@@orion9kThey were being brilliantly sarcastic!
Eating means not fasting. You’ve got to be joking? Please be.
This is awesome thank
You!!
This is an exemplary video Mike. Really thorough and balanced unlike much of the nonsense that autophagy is an ‘on/off’ process. I will need to check out that book 📖 you cited. Thanks for all you do and perhaps we’ll see you on my podcast in the future 🙏🏻
I been doing a lot about learning how everything works from many people. I guess after a year, I am upping my game of understanding. This was a good video.
Great video, Mike
The level of engagement in this thread is truly impressive. It's clear that this topic resonates deeply with everyone here.💝
Great Work!
Great video. My personal anecdotal evidence is that exercise during a fasted state significantly increases autophagy. For the last four years I have done heavy lifting, deadlifts etc., while finishing a 16 hour fast. The results have been amazing. My friends all look old but I’ve kind of stopped time.
Love your vids man !!!!!
Excellent share 👊🏾
Nobody talks about when not to fast. About 12% of people have ACAT1-02 genetic mutation. For them keto and fasting is a bad idea.
Thanks for the content, also like your new hair and beard do 😅
Thank you
Any research on effects of prolonged water fast with different metabolic diseases? 7 days to 40 days water fast
Exercise depletes l-carnitine. It is used for fat adaptation and metabolism. I would supplement that when fasting.
3g of HMB prevents catabolism during salt water fasting while resistance training/ intense cardio on empty stomach - it is a thing - it works GREAT!!! - get to keep lean muscle mass while releasing TONS of body fat and water weight.
what about the study that showed fasting increased heart problems by 90%
who by? kelloggs?? nestle??
Link it
Would love to see more variety of flavors in the styx. Been using both yours and LMNT, but prefer their flavors. (Seems petty, I know). I like the fact that I know you have real salt in yours.
Thanks Mike. I've been doing the metabolic Mike early time restricted feeding for a while now. 😊
I’ve found that fasting and carnivore is very effective for weight loss & pretty easy if you drink an electrolyte drink that’s specifically for fasting. It’s surprisingly effective and easy. 👍
👍 give 👍 a 👍 like 👍 for 👍 Mike! 👍
How do we know what the the line is that crosses over into over-training? I'm sure it's different for each individual. How would one know??
I am about to finish my first ever 72 hours in about -/+ 4 hours. It has been a breeze. Constant energy, felt zero hunger. The thought of autophagy is what kept me going. I’ve already been eating high fat several years now.
I got my blood work this week, the first time in 18 years. I am a little acidosis and being Carnivore I introduced a few high ph foods and baking soda into my diet. My triglycerides and LDL were high so I am going into a fast for autophagy next week. I will try for five days. I also introduced prebiotics not probiotics in my diet. I normally fast everyday for 18 hours. I will say this is my one year Carnivore maintenance cycle. I exercise like a maniac.
Can GKI be a measure for Autophagy? Low insulin levels? Any research?
My understanding is that autophagy during exercise is activated in the muscles being worked out, and therefore any effects on the brain, etc. are indirect. To activate autophagy in the brain, etc., fasting is required. Is this understanding correct?
Doing a 24 hour fast as I listen!
Same!
I started working out in the morning after fasting and no meal. I am obese. I work out at 7am in the morning and have my first meal around 11:30am. is that okay? like I said before I am obese. but I can walk many miles and work out cardio and some muscle for 20 minutes. I also have multiple sclerosis.
I’m actually lysing my misfolded proteins as I type this
I have heard it said by a famous longevity doctor that autophagy only occurs in long term fasting. Is this true?
I guess I’m not understanding the Stix deal. Either the website isn’t processing the 2nd box or I’m not understanding how to do that.
Does drinking the electrolyte stix break a fast?
Wow. The book cost $90!
🇮🇱
Does the equally apply to people over 65 years old?
Creatinine ok during fast?
💪🏿💪🏿
Minimising insulin promotes autophagy on the carnivore diet .Fasting isn't necessary .Bodybuilders eat Processed carbs that mess with their blood sugars and insulin , so autophagy deficit is the least of their problems, (compared to insulin resistance wrecking arteries).
❤
Read "THE SWITCH" by James W Clement. Total autophagy explanation!
During my 51 day water fast, I had a hard time exercising. I would get out of breath quickly and had trouble with balance. I noticed a similar effect on my current diet (Lion's Diet)
The solution? Vitamin C. After supplementing with C for awhile, I noticed my respiration has improved significantly. I now am back to exercising and my performance is through the roof. Interestingly, on the Lion Diet I don't experience DOMS. I'm not sore for days after working out. So I'm able to push even further
Oh and I realize that the trouble with balance is because of losing muscle from fasting lol
Wow 51 days?
That's something you really have to be careful with. Actual starvation and muscle/organ wasting. Do you have a lot of excess weight to use as energy?
@@grantlawrence4600 Yes, plenty of excess weight. So the prolonged fast was necessary. I would be bed bound if I hadn’t started fasting
51 day water fast!? You know your body better than I do, but I'd take a wellness break every 14 days and keep it going after making sure my functioning was optimal.
@@BBWahoo My only regret is the muscle loss. It was an incredible experience and had a lot of benefits. I’m on the Lion’s Diet now, which mimics the effects but also allows me to build muscle
❤❤❤❤
Its a great way to lose muscle.
Thoughts on dry fasting?
I wouldn't mind dry hoomping
Following
I wonder if there's anything else that might contribute directly to heart function from the past few years, more so than this crazy pandemic of exercising too much 🤔🤔🤔
Let say you run for 60 min when fasting. How many Hours you "earn" vs no training.
These are the most important topics that are making me to listen to your videos (although I'll never agree with you about meat ;) )
As they say in Philly, The difference between fasting and starving is atty-tude.
W
2:11 the organ systems that were designed lol because if we didn't have these functions, and we had to wait thousands of years for each organ to somehow form itself, the species would have never continued. Just like that random fish that washed up on shore that somehow could breathe and feed itself, on land, to give itself enough energy to reproduce with itself even though it didn't have that function. It would have died and evolution would have never happened if that were the case.
It's funny that Google will say that your shoulder muscles evolved from the oblique muscles but how would you have been able to feed yourself if you couldn't lift your arm (ou need food for energy to reproduce)? How would you have been able to feed yourself with proper foods if you didn't have working memory to begin with to remember what foods to eat and what foods not to eat, as well as to remember that eating is going to get rid of that hunger feeling you somehow didn't know you had? When you take the reality-test, it's so easy to disprove Evolution over and over again. How would our bodies have even been able to form mitochondria if we couldn't live without it to begin with?
I know this has nothing to do with the video but I still have to take advantage of opportunities to remind people that every system in our body had to function immediately so that we were able to survive adapt and thrive, otherwise every last species in the world would have died off before it had the chance to reproduce because the reproduction of code itself is a design
I can guess with 100 percent certainly that you are a Christian and a creationist, right?
My understanding from scientific literature that "time restricted feeding" refers to animal studies. When talking about humans, "time restricted eating" is the proper phrase, unless you talk about babies.
Long term fasting is a fad. Our ancestors never went hungry on purpose. It was forced on them by nature. Just because people talk a lot about something does not make it reality.
Fasting for more than 2 days starts to burn protein out of your body, and quite rapidly, regardless of what all the pro-fasting automatons tell you.
Sure, it's not dangerous but if you do it too often or too long, you just lower your muscle and slow your basal metabolic rate.
Be careful to not fall victim to group think. Just because you hear something from a lot of people does not automatically make it true...
Fasting when your body is fat-adapted is muscle sparing. Your body will preserve muscle mass at all costs. Especially if you include weight bearing exercises.
Under a five day fast isn't going to lose you much muscle mass. Any lost will be regained very quickly post-feed. Again, assuming you include weight bearing exercise.
There's some pretty good literature showing that calorie restriction and long-term fasting improves life-span and drastically improves neurological illness.
Fasting wasn't "forced" on anyone
It's been a staple of most religions forever
@@capo4270 Yes it was. It was forced on us by a lack of food, and religion and culture does not prove something is good for you.
@@grantlawrence4600
No it wont fasting is actively detrimental to gaining mass, eating every 3-4 hours at least 5 times per day is what is required for max growth or to sustain whilst cutting, minimum 1 gram per cm of height from high quality animal sources.
🤓 over here quoting studies. Your really listening to pencil neck over here instead of Guys who have actual accolades 🤣
What's the best duration for fasting?
