Carrie Singleton He’s amazing. (I have a few haters from a video that questioned the Carnivorous diet back in Jan. All good!) Thanks for your feedback. Mike
I am an MD board certified in the US. I am not diabetic or obese, I watched this video because my daughter told me about it. Dr. Fung totally convinced me, his view is revolutionary but it makes lot of sense. Indeed we as doctors have been mistreating our patients giving bad advice and it is shameful that I have to find this out on UA-cam! What he is saying is so important that it should be on national television!
i also wanted to say that intermittent fasting is good but it takes time to switch from carb burning to fat burning. the best solution is to do a keto diet along with IF. keto dieting gets a bad rap since you eat fat in place of carbs. but if you don't stall the insulin for a few days you will not be burning fat the way you need to. i guarantee you that over a few days you will go from eating too much to eating at a calorie deficit since the natural hormones that tell you that you don't need food can finally be heard. insulin covers up those hormones no matter how loud they're screaming. i have fasted for a week. it took three days to stop being hungry and after 7 days i had to eat again because it's not a sustainable diet. of course the weight just comes right back. but with keto you stay in fasting mode and it is totally sustainable.
It's not your fault. Anyone in the medical field, including nurses, are taught USDA bullshit. Lots of MDs are like this online: Ken D Berry and Jeffry Gerber among others.
This man completely changed my life. 6 months ago I was 40kg heavier, an alcoholic drug addict. Whilst listening to his teachings I was able to fully change my mind and lifestyle. Almost in tears thinking about that shit right now. Can't thank him enough. Your channel is where I first came across Dr Fung. So thank you so much also!!
Sarah Anderson a genuine doctors mission is to do more work so that in the future they might have to do less work. Not because their level of effort has changed but because their number of patients has.
“When all the evidence is corrupt then evidence-based medicine is also corrupt.” Thank you sir for caring & calling out the corrupt, greedy folks who are literally killing us with bad advice.
Dr Fung is exposing corruption in medicine one podcast at a time while educating the public how to eat and stay healthy by intermittent fasting. Thank you very much for the video. You guys deserve some kind of award or medal.
100%. Love and have followed Dr. Fung and Berg for years. I truly wish there were more doctors on the planet that gave a dam about health and informing people for free with truth. Especially in the US we are just set up to fail with the FDA, government, and medical industry making everyone sick with endless processed pre packaged chemical garbage and junk food. Then the solution is to ofcourse keep you on "medicine and chemicals" the rest of your life as opposed to God forbid heal with natural remedies and things like fasting around for ages. Literally no $$ in the cure and they dont care how many people die per it which is the horrifying didpicsbke fact. That mixed with the 50 year old textbook bs of eat 50 meals a day to "speed" up your metabolism and fats are horrible is just the nail in the coffin when people are in ignorant bliss, overweight and dont learn any better among all the people who are just naturally slim and eat anything per it not effecting them so they dont care about the health aspect of it. Crazy crazy cycle in this country. Doctors like this need an award trying to help with free info to a brainwashed society. Nothing a fasting lifestyle cant heal among eating quality whole clean foods. If only we all realized this from childhood. Better late than never and sadly something many still refuse to believe from fear of "starving" in a life of endless snacking addiction!
I don’t think it’s drs. They only know what they were taught. People don’t realize that the schools your drs go to are funded/donated by pharmaceutical companies. It’s the perfect way to get an insulin customer for life
I absolutely loved when he said "you can exercise your muscles but you can't exercise your liver" at 10:34. He was saying that eating that doughnut versus a healthy meal may have the same calories but they don't have the same hormone response. Even if you don't have money, practice fasting and OMAD (one meal a day) and make that one meal the healthiest meal possible. We stopped buying unhealthy snacks at my home (chips, etc) not only because they are not healthy but there's no time to eat them when we practice OMAD. We saved some money too : ) Good luck and blessings on your healthy journey.
I'm doing OMAD too, saving so much money too! Also agree, really hard to eat bad food because by the time I'm done with my meal there's no way I can eat junk food
Re money and eating healthy, when I was on a tight budget one year (before my pension kicked in) I had been studying about what the human body thrives on. I could only budget $3USD daily for food and so I lived all summer on a $6 huge watermelon with a squeeze of lemon juice (to balance out electrolytes) which lasted two days, and during the winter I lived on bags of apples. You know what? I felt great and my body never got tired of watermelon and apples. Of course now I also add in nutrient dense seaweed and alfalfa tea, and the occasional fatty cheat food, but no sugary processed sweets. I'd rather stock my freezer with bags of bing cherries and other fruits than evermore bite into a cinnamon bun, which I used to love. For example, local grocer has a $2.98 sale on one pound bags of frozen fruits - my two freezers are stuffed to the gills :-))
"Your body ate lunch out of your own body fat" that has to be the smartest words ever. Thank you Dr Fung for helping me to understand intermittent fasting. I am putting a sign on my fridge that says "you do not have to eat because your body can eat your own fat " , to remind myself that I can do this!!!
Yet, the body can only do this in the absence of carbs, or insulin. For those whose insulin remains high long after they eat, especially a meal with sugar (even fruit) and/or starch, the switch to being able to access body fat for energy may take days, even weeks. For details, check out 'The Case for Nutritional Ketosis' by Dr. Stephen Phinney ua-cam.com/video/_evJd_iZZzs/v-deo.html
Jefferdaughter It’s completely normal to have insulin spikes after *any* meal. You want low fasting insulin, consistently, year in and year out. There’s only one way to achieve that: high carb, low fat vegan (no oil, very very low fat). You will never have an excess body weight issue in your life with sugar. You will with fat and protein, though. Fat stores into the body the easiest out of ALL macronutrients. Guess which of three does not, or does it so poorly? *Sugar* If you want to lose weight folks (and sustainably) - it’s ideally fruit and IF, or at the very least high carb, low fat VEGAN (no oil, minimal salt). No caffeine like keto. Just let the body run on it’s preferred source of fuel - sugar from fruit/starch.
@@carnivoregains1413 Did you watch the video? Fung covers high carb vs high fat for 10 minutes starting from around the 48:00 mark. You can do well on either of them. It's about frequency and quantity and quality, not about cutting out an entire macronutrient group.
Just went to a “diabetic meeting” with my friend where the nurse told him to eat frequently- carbs and ,yogurt, etc were fine in small portions. So, I throw back to her all my JF facts just in shock that this is what information they are still telling people. And this is why people are dying on insulin. So grateful I already had the knowledge and Jason Fung videos to share. He’s the absolute best!
The policies of where they work is a huge force and is impossible to fight. But the information is based on wrong science and its taught to all specialties in healthcare. I used to be one of them but im awoke! I dont know how i could be a hospital insulin administering nurse though...nope.
Diabetes was treated successfully by Dr. Kempner in the early 20th century with a diet of rice fruit and sugar. Although low-tech, the benefits of the Rice Diet far exceed those of any drug or surgery ever prescribed for chronic conditions, including coronary artery disease, heart and kidney failure, hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, and obesity. Dr. Neal Barnard has written a book about diabetes and he recommends a whole plant-based diet. Also there’s another book called mastering diabetes where they recommend high fruit and vegetable consumption. Dr. Michael Gregor has a video on how saturated fat is linked to type two diabetes.
Down 55lbs in 6 months and have my mom off insulin, blood pressure and cholesterol medications and 40 lbs down for her. Nothing but respect for Fung and folks like Mike to help bring transparency to health and fitness.
@@dvdgnz1 not it isnt. one can eat the SAME amount of calories in 4hrs instead of 5 smaller meals and lose lots of bodyfat. same amount of calories and same foods. but by fasting you increase the period where insulin is super low thus fat can be oxidised (burned) for much longer periods of time. losing fat is primarly a HORMONE issue, not calories.
@@DarkoFitCoach lol, drinking the fasting Koolaid. Silly, guy. I've done fasting, hell I do it to this day but it only helps me restrict overall calories. It's just a tool and offers no metabolic advantages. People have been losing weight for eons whether they eat all day or once a day, the total calorie intake is what matters. Quit spreading misinformation that isn't backed by actual metabolic ward studies. Please Google some metabolic ward studies on CICO and be enlightened to the facts.
Just got goosebumps.... 🤯 undeniable fucking logic. “Give alcohol to an alcoholic, their shaking gets better but their alcoholism gets worse. You give insulin to a diabetic their sugar goes down but their diabetes gets progressively worse”.. This makes so much sense
I have T2D and my Dr and nutritionist told me I need to eat whole grain, wheat bread , jello, pudding, popsicles, not too much sugar, watch salt, cut fat, only eat palm size hamburger meat, must measure all foods before consuming and keep candy or a soda handy bc I will need it. They say I need to eat carbs but don't eat too much bc my blood sugar will spike and we don't want that to happen. Well everytime I eat the foods they recommended my blood sugar skyrockets so I no longer follow their advice. I still take the meds my PCP prescribe but now I feel I am doubting their advice. I feel they no longer care about healing and curing for people's illness. I mean if you don't specialize in that health or disease then you should refer your patient to someone who can help them instead of giving bad advice which makes that patients health deteriorated for the worst turns. I am loosing trust in the medical profession. I have a disease and my health is not improving by their advice instead they want to keep me medicated for life and they proceeded to tell me there is no cure. Are the people who claims they have change their diet have cure their disease liars? Then we have a Dr who can answer questions that my nutritionist and PCP cannot give me answers.

I love this guy, he sound like a conspiracy theorist. Why? Because there is obviously a conspiracy. This is how all conspiracies work, wicked people doing immoral things for their own benefit. It is rampant in every walk of life or field of endeavor. That does not mean there are no good honorable people in these same fields. But they seem few and far between. God help us there are too few Dr. Fungs in this world.
No he’s just telling you that the American diet and concept of eating isn’t healthy and it’s all about Money. The food industry and government endorses it because they get paid too.
I have watched many of Dr Fung’s lectures and interviews. What I love about this one is that Mike let the doctor speak the facts and give the information smoothly without the constant interruptions that are common in other interviews. Thank you Dr Fung, you absolutely deserve the Nobel prize!
In my life I have 2 examples. My grandma from mother’s side has had health issues since she was 40. Doesn’t eat well at all. All the desserts and carbs. She’s at her 60’s now has diabetes, goes to dialysis at least 4 times a week, her toe was cut off due to gangrene (because she had a tint scar and it didn’t heal) her muscles are melting away but after all these things she still continues to eat unhealthy things. There’s never a time that she doesn’t have dessert at her house. On the other hand my grandma from father’s side at her 80’s little to no medication (no cholesterol meds) she is in good condition. She made everything herself that was in her capabilities, hated getting boxed juices and yogurt. Because of our religion she also fasted for a month in a year. One is almost bedridden and the other cleans the whole house and cooks almost everyday. Seeing them is my number 1 motivation for eating healthy.
Dale Val Yes I certainly wanna be like my father’s mother. Well it’s not strongly related to DNA but I have a higher risk so that’s also another motivation for being careful .

Yes, the body knows how to take care of itself. Fasting autophagy enzymatically breaks down sequestered fat cells, cellular debris, etc., resulting in gases, water and particles, some of which gets purged and the rest re-cycled to keep the body going. Body is sooooo smart.

Your first interview with Dr. Jason Fung and also his book The Complete Guide to Fasting helped me get in shape and I am happy for that. However, the reason I am absolutely in debt to him is because passing on this information to my parents, who have constantly struggled with their body weight, has changed their lives. Both of them have lost more weight than they thought they would ever be able to and they are the healthiest they have been in a long long time. Most importantly, they are a lot happier. For this, I thank Dr. Jason Fung and Mike.
You are lucky, because no matter how much I explain to my parents what needs to be done to slim them down, get rid of their diabetes and heart disease, they won’t give up their bread with jam, ice cream and etc, because this is what their government told them to eat every day.
Thank you both!! This is so important and encouraging!! A year and a half ago, I was insulin resistant, went on keto and intermittent fasting and now my weight is good. My sister was very overweight and is doing well on the same regimen. She is almost 80 yrs and I am 73. It is never too late to change!!
It's never too late. When I first started the fasting journey I read an article written by a 90 years old lady who knowledgeably fasted to the bone and was doing fine. She then went back to healthy eating lifestyle.
When we were told to eat low fat back in the 70s we started to eat more frequently throughout the day because the fat was stripped from the food so our meals were not holding us over until the next meal, hence the snacking trend began..
This guy knows what he is talking about. He is respectful of the fact that our bodies are soldiers of homeostasis with elegant mechanisms to achieve and sustain it.
Ditto. I've had to train my mind to take up another interest so as not to suffer boredom and tedium. It's not easy when during fasting autophagy the body is finally seeing its true condition and working through the adrenal glands and other glands and organs and bowels and nervous system, and when my blood pressure is on the floor due to underperforming adrenals, it is hard to pull out of the lethargy, and finally entering the feeding window gives the adrenal glands a bit of a stimulant, an external boost and that keeps me going. Eventually the body will give an "All Clear" re all underperforming issues and we will walk into our "old age" vital and healthy.

I do OMAD most days with a keto diet and I extended fast at least once a week 2-3 days and a 6 or 7 day extended fast once a month. I've gone from 204 down to 160 since New Years, my sleep is back on track, I'm rarely hungry and I have a TON of energy. My depression has all but disappeared and my skin is clear for once. Also, even with the rapid weight loss I'm showing no sign of loose skin. I'm 44 years old btw. I feel better than I have in years and I'm only 3.5 months in!
aren't you concerned that you are not eating enough? I'm all in with the OMAD which is I do as well, but combining this with a 3 day fast once a week and a week long fast once a month does sound like you are not consuming enough calories. I wonder if this type of approach slows down metabolism?
I'm not concerned. I keep my insulin levels low through keto and fasting so my body is using my stored fat for energy. The extended fasting actually boosts my metabolism, according to Dr. Fung . He says that 4 consecutive days of fasting actually increases basal metabolism by 13%. It's not about calories ( although my omad is hearty) but insulin levels. I still have 40 lbs to go and when I hit my goal weight I will do my extended fasts a lot less often just for the autophagy. On metabolism, Dr. Fung says "In order to fix our broken metabolism, we need to allow free access to the energy contained within our fat stores. We need to allow fat burning (lipolysis) to proceed normally. We need to lower insulin. The answer is low carbohydrate diets, or even better - intermittent or extended fasting." If you can, get Fung's book 'The Complete Guide to Fasting" from the library or bookstore. I was worried about my metabolism when I started, too, so I read all his books. It's super fascinating stuff!
Intermittent fasting totally changed my body and my life. Coupling it with keto, I'm never hungry, have lots of energy, and excess weight is flying off.
Still doing great. I've lost 30 lbs this year (5 months), despite taking a two week break (vacation - didn't lose during that time, but also didn't gain anything) and not exercising a whole lot. It wasn't as hard to go back after a break than it was originally starting.
Dr. Jason Fung, in minute 50:00 - 1:00:00, alludes to that fact he is a bit macronutrient agnostic - citing examples of the Okinawan, Kitavan, and the Chinese and Irish 40 years ago, who ate a lot of carbs but who did not have high levels of insulin, and therefore did not have an obesity problem. The key, as he rightly points out, is that they were not eating frequently and ate little to no sugar, and therefore did not trigger high insulin levels chronically. Before vegans and other high carb advocates jump on this admission, it is important to point out that this does NOT mean that, therefore, people who are currently obese and have insulin resistance should just switch to high carb diets. The key takeaway from what Dr. Fung is saying in this segment is that, because these aforementioned people never ate frequently, and ate very little sugar, they were NOT insulin resistant, and therefore the high carb diets that they did eat, will not effect them the same way it would effect an obese insulin resistance modern person. Since Americans, and people in other nations which are encountering an obesity crisis, have been eating frequently for decades, they DO HAVE INSULIN resistance. Hence, the best way for these people to transition to less frequency of eating (i.e. intermittent fasting), is by eating a low carb diet. This makes the transition easier, because it mitigates or eliminates the postprandial blood sugar roller coaster, thus making the transition from eating frequently to eating infrequently less painful.
Although I try to avoid MDs as much as I can (bad past experiences), Dr. Jason Fung is an exception. I just love the guy. He is a medical version of Michael Jordan. Smooth, confident, enigmatic yet one of the kind with the information he gives. I have his book and it's an eye opener. He has saved and will save lives of many. Thank you Dr. Jason Fung.
One of the best most educational and wide ranging Introductions. If you only watch one video on youtube to beat your obesity, this is the one. It worked for me. watch it Ten times or more until u understand everying said deeply.
I've been listening to Dr fung for year's now and I admire his boldness, it must be tough going against what we were taught for year's and I can only imagine the dirty looks he might get from his colleagues. He knows what he's talking about.
Love him so much.. A lot of people think I am crazy and that I am obsesse with losing weight. I am not.. Is not about how I look but how I feel. I have PCOS 35 yrs old 124 lbs 5'1 and I feel way better than when I was 25. I never thought I could be 124 again.. My hubby tells me that I am gonna end like the movie Benjamin.. lol he says I am getting younger.. Thank you for this.. much love and God bless you and family...
Yes, I am crazy too for many people. Watching this video helped a lot to go back on keto and IF. Good to know theres crazy more people out there too. Cheers Sandra.
This makes so much sense. I keep telling people the same thing about how if we’ve done the “low fat” processed and “diet” stuff since the 70’s, then why aren’t we thinner and healthier?!? So much misinformation out there. Love this interview!
Dr. Fung and his information have changed everything for me. Down almost four sizes, getting great muscle and feel sharp and amazing. I turn 55 this week and feel better than I have for over a decade. My genetics and family history say I should be diabetic, but instead, I've optimized my glucose levels. Good stuff!!
That’s awesome! Do mind sharing what you eat? I’ve struggled even on low carb and intermittent fasting. I’m currently calorie counting and losing but it’s very restrictive! 😊
Well, I've had genetic nutritional counseling and protein is a preferred fuel source for my physiology, and low carb is optimal for me. I do not count calories, I eat only whole, real food. I eat a lot of eggs, butter, olive oil, chicken, fish, some meats, LOTS of non starchy vegetables. I do almond milk and some heavy cream, I eat some cheese, I prefer higher end cheeses! I do eat nuts, and I refuse to give up peanut butter. I love it too much. I do a little coconut oil in a few things, but am not a huge fan. Only if I make a dessert thing. I eat NO sugar. Stevia and monkfruit only. No soda, no juice, I don't drink alcohol either. I put lemon, berries and stevia in water for a "juice." I rarely eat out, I cook my own food from whole ingredients. Also, I'm very physically active. 5 years ago, I needed four surgeries to walk again. I was told I'd be an invalid by now, Lyme disease gave me severe rheumatoid arthritis. I didn't accept that. I now lift fairly heavy weights in the gym, and am more muscular than I was in my 30's. So, I think it's the holy trinity of fasting, eating a healthy low carb diet and exercise significant enough to stress the body and build notable muscle. And yes, I have bigger biceps than most any of my female friends, and I LOVE it!!! On gym rest days, I try to walk several miles. My whole life has changed. OH! I just graduated from college, Cum Laude, last week, and I credit fasting for the brainpower! So, that's my routine. Good luck!!!
Congrats AJG! I'm beginning intermittent fasting and I'm considering joining the IDM Program group for support doing 24hr fasts. Can you please share what type of fast you've done? I'm also wondering how much and how frequently you lift weights? Thanks!
I almost cried when I watching this interview, because my grandma died of type ii diabetes, and she injected insulin before every meal for over ten years. Her belly skin was always green or blue. I hope I could know this more early so I might keep her with me more.
Yes, it is sad and painful to watch friends and relatives lose their "game" due to wrong eating habits that they were indoctrinated into from early ages and trusting their doctors and the gov't health advices.
It makes me angry people who has this disease still gets their meds increase and the disease gets worse with the help of our drs and dietitions. They are being told to eat every two hours and snack between so how will this help with the disease??? I did this and i could not loose weight so i decided to look elsewhere for suggestions. I am so glad i found Dr fung, ken berry, and other drs on youtube who share their inputs. I am not eating all the time and i am not starving. At first i got scared but i did it for my health. I got the courage to do IF then keto. You know you have to step up and try otherwise you would not know the result. I am glad i did bc it did helped me to loose weight and kept off 30 pounds. I an no longer 150 pound at age 49 being 5'1". Im loosing weight and my blood sugar has came down drastically. Its not 198 anymore by following my pcp and dietition advice, its less than 98 now. My next appt with the dr is in June so we will see if my a1c is satisfactory. I will keep you guys posted.
Having just binged on 16 homemade "low carb/keto" dark chocolate bars in the past 2 days...yea I realized I cannot just have a "little" sweets. I have a tendency to just overdo it completely. He is right about the cravings being eliminated with complete avoidance. I will just go back to that and only eating sugar in social situations because I can't self-regulate at all.
Can I recommend an alternative? Only buy one snack at a time. That way you can allow yourself a treat (so that it doesn't feel so restrictive) but you aren't liable to binge (since the journey back to the shops would outlast the binge).
just don't bring it in the house. that's the ticket! since i personally love chocolate (being a woman is my excuse!), i buy totally unsweetened cocoa powder and add it to my coffee, or make a very low sugar hot chocolate with fully fatted milk. if i am out and dessert is ordered, i get cheesecake or something creamy. the fat is actualy more satisfying than the sugar, at least to me. just some tips from someone who is a fellow struggler!
Tom O’Connor wrong! Did you actually watch this video? Sugar absolutely makes you fat! It’s the worst! It spikes the hell out of your insulin which signals to your body to push the glucose into your fat cells thus making you fat! Healthy dietary fat is actually essential for health hormonal balance!
Kenrick Fearn Better not listen in on his backroom conversations then... "we need to chop off the leg!" "no no, let's just try antibiotics first" "but then the infection will spread, and we'll have to chop off his dick too!" Then it turns out it was just a cold all along.

I feel the same way. Duped for decades by the diet industry. Today is day 5 of 23 hour fasting (eating low carb dinner only). I’ve already lost 3 pounds effortlessly. Where has this info been?
Dr. Fung is a true hero - saving lives everyday. Isn’t that what ALL doctors are supposed to do? Amazing work Dr. Fung! I’m immensely grateful for your integrity and for your courage to stand up for what is right.
I found dr Fung Sep. 23 last year and I start doing fasting, I am now lose 40kg and drop from clothes size 20 to size12/10, I was a gym members for ages and never lose that much, I stop my gyms from 31/12/2023, and now I stop eat at 7pm and eat at 3pm next day that 20 hrs fast and 4 hrs eats, I only walk once a while. I'm so happy with myself now, thank you dr Fung my family are now starting to follow, "just let your body eat your body fat,"
I lost 25 lbs (38 yrs old). My wife lost 15 lbs (35 yrs old), my mom lost 30 lbs, normalized blood pressure and cholesterol with fasting and light exercise (69 yrs old). If the stories of success are your pay - you've changed the life outcomes of members of my family - Thank you! (We also bough the book, lol). My mom's doctor is so shocked he wants her to stop doing it (she wears skinny jeans now). He wanted to put her on statins and meds but can't now that she lost all that weight and normalized her metabolism. He's trying to scare her into stopping even though she has the health outcomes he would have wanted for her on those meds. I'm thinking the advice she got from her son watching youtube videos is better than anything he's ever done for a patient with high cholesterol and blood pressure - decentralizing health knowledge is quite a threat. For me, his reaction is more proof to the later part of your convo - they are paid not to understand or to not relay what is best for people.
many doctors are really idiots and greedy. good doctors were jailed for teaching the patient alternative medicine instead of surgery and dangerous medication.
I have been following Dr. Fung’s advice since October 2015. Changed my life for the better. Sometimes it takes a flash of genius to see what is in front of you. Dr. Fung has done that with his insights on obesity and type two diabetes. The hero we need. Dr. Fung, you have my sincere thanks.
You are a very Amazing person to my life. 2 years ago I seen a few hours of your you tubes. today I have lost 90 pounds I am no longer diabetic or anything else!. and continue doing the Keto lifestyle and I fast 20 hours everyday Dr Jason Fung Thank you so much! I am now coaching and helping others! I'm about to publish my book Sugar is the Devil! Your such a blessing! I would love to meet you one day or maybe I can get you on my show!
Really look forward to reading your book, "Sugar is the Devil". Great title. I'm still in rough draft stage for a book on medical dryfasting, having done over 4000 hours of medical dryfasting with nothing but healing and regeneration (restored thyroid function to thyroid removed in 1971). It is a tough learning curve, figuring out the best way to present the data and accumulated experience. Hoping someone on Skillshare will help me with the tough learning curve.
This is SO right! I just accidentally fasted for 2 weeks, because of my 2 wisdom teeth extraction, and lost 22 lbs. Without any exercise, no feeling of aching, no feeling of tiredness, I didn't even have a feeling of hunger thanks to the PAIN lol
@@Brainbuster You are eating yourself, which is also considered cannibalism. So yes, technically its starvation. In nature, fasting and weight loss is the last thing you would want to do. No animal in it's natural habitat, periodically decides to fast as a health strategy. An overnight fast and skipping breakfast is natural, but going over a week without eating just to "activate" autophagy is utter nonsense. Enjoy an underactive thyroid, high cortisol and a wrecked immune system.
@@_Brutal_ ever heard of hibernation? There are loads of animals that fast periodically. It's a little different, as they also greatly lower their energy expenditure, but it is still fasting. Also, comparing man with any other animal in nature is probably not the way to convince people, because there is also no animal in their natural habitat that has computers, electricity, skycrapers, cars and whatnot.
I am on keto and IF for almost 3 years! I do 36 hours fast every week. I lost 24 pounds. I dont need to loose more but I just feel great and continue for health benefits))
I loved your last interview with Dr. Jason Fung, and I was so ecstatic when I saw, in my subscription list, that you were interviewing him again! I almost jumped up and down, as if I got front row seats to my favorite rock band's concert. In the world of health Dr. Fung is, in my opinion, a rock star. He is just that good when it comes to the manner in which he expresses key health concepts, and he is such an instrumental figure in debunking dietary myths, that I can't help but get engrossed in every presentation and interview he is featured in. As always, thank you so much for giving Dr. Fung a platform to speak.

Arguments are so solid, and personally proven out since I first listened in June and now -40lbs and counting, with blood pressure systolic -10 due to keto and fasting. Forever grateful for your work.

Great, I just started OMAD, though eating 1700 calories in one sitting is difficult. Noticable fat loss slight weight loss but just started so on my way.
Wow, no thanks, this pseudoscience should never be taken seriously. Science disagrees. Calorie deficits are the sole reason you drop fat. We've known this for a looooong time.

Me too. Now my glucose levels are nearly "normal" that I don't take Metformin anymore. But I'm still on the statins. Hopefully not for long. I wish you the best health.
As a physicist, I object to the characterization that physics has anything to do with calories in = calories out. The first law of thermodynamics applies to a closed system. The human body is not a closed system therefore the law cannot be applied. Every physicist knows this. This is does not preclude a theory where calories consumed must equal calories expended, however, the law itself cannot be used to justify that theory. Don't blame physics - blame ignorance of physics. Dr. Fung. Thank you. Fasting and IF really works. After 40 years of trying to control my weight I now have the tools to do so.
Basically, it you enter a calorie deficit, that is, more calories expended than retained, you lose weight. As much as Fung discredits the importance of caloric balance, he continually refers to it in his narrative. He does a fantastic job of articulating the nuances biochemistry, nutrient partitioning and metabolic adaption, but body-weight ultimatey comes down to calories in vs calories out - and Fung knows it. Everything is physics.
@Armenias Thunk he didn't mis-state it, I think you just misunderstood the point of Andrew's statement. His purpose was not to contest Dr. Fung. Read Again, he was corroborating it, in his own way. Look closer at what he mean when he said, "preclude", and what context he actually meant it in. And read very slowly and carefully the fullness of his statements. But I can see where one might easily misinterpret due to his opening sentence.
@Armenias Thunk Andrew is not pointing at Dr. Fung. It was other people's idea that thermodynamics can be simply applied to metabolism. Those are the one's Andrew is pointing out.
Please continue taking Metformin. Aside from controlling insulin it is a lot like fasting. It prolongs Longevity by also reducing cancer, cardiovascular disease and even neurodegenerative disease. I love Dr Fung God bless him for opening my eyes I was on the slippery slope of ending up on diabetic medicines for the rest of my life. He has given me hope of a healthier life this week I fasted for 48 hours for the first time in my life and for the first time my BG went down from 9 to 5.9 and I am sticking to this fasting regimen... When muslims fast one month a year...we dont feel hungry at all...we just get so thirsty for water...it resets our whole body mechanism...and gain higher spiritual level...fasting does make a difference & putting in my body natural foods without additives makes big difference...meditate...be happy ...keep positive...therefore I dont just fast Ramadan but throughout the year, interval fasting ...ud be surprised, how little of food our body needs to survive n be well
Nema Na čemu the body enters the “fasted” state after your last meal has been digested and metabolized, usually 2-8 hours depending on what your last meal was. So yes, Muslims during Ramadan are fasting.
To summarize of his ultimate losing weight technique: 1. Do a 24 hrs fasting. This will drop your insulin and deplete all glycogen and excess water. 2. After 24 hrs, your body will enter fat burning mode. 3. Eat only 1-2 meal, limit your carb. If your carb exceeds 20 gram it will hinder your fat burning. Keep majority of calorie come from protein and fat. 4. Keep consistent. Weight will drop.

What he is saying is so important that it should be on national television!
you have been taught incorrectly. it's not your fault. the medical field is constantly evolving and as we learn more we then can be healthier.
i also wanted to say that intermittent fasting is good but it takes time to switch from carb burning to fat burning. the best solution is to do a keto diet along with IF. keto dieting gets a bad rap since you eat fat in place of carbs. but if you don't stall the insulin for a few days you will not be burning fat the way you need to. i guarantee you that over a few days you will go from eating too much to eating at a calorie deficit since the natural hormones that tell you that you don't need food can finally be heard. insulin covers up those hormones no matter how loud they're screaming. i have fasted for a week. it took three days to stop being hungry and after 7 days i had to eat again because it's not a sustainable diet. of course the weight just comes right back. but with keto you stay in fasting mode and it is totally sustainable.
It's not your fault. Anyone in the medical field, including nurses, are taught USDA bullshit. Lots of MDs are like this online: Ken D Berry and Jeffry Gerber among others.
I really hope most U.S. board certified MDs are not 'totally convinced' of anything based on a single UA-cam video >.

We saved some money too : )
Good luck and blessings on your healthy journey.

It’s completely normal to have insulin spikes after *any* meal.
*Sugar*
If you want to lose weight folks (and sustainably) - it’s ideally fruit and IF, or at the very least high carb, low fat VEGAN (no oil, minimal salt).

Yeah, the ADA doesn’t have a clue. No to starchy carbs. A diet high in vegetables is what is needed.

Damn mommy you're a gorgeous older woman.

For me, its anxiety.
Me too i eat real food most of the time but i eat out of boredom or stress i rarely feel hungry🤭😑
Thank you for being an ethical doctor, Dr. Fung.
Fung is a rock star :) Learning from him has totally changed my life.
Sharon Hammond did you try Intermittent Fasting did it work for fat loss?, could you let me know if you see this?
I do OMAD most days with a keto diet and I extended fast at least once a week 2-3 days and a 6 or 7 day extended fast once a month. I've gone from 204 down to 160 since New Years, my sleep is back on track, I'm rarely hungry and I have a TON of energy. My depression has all but disappeared and my skin is clear for once. Also, even with the rapid weight loss I'm showing no sign of loose skin. I'm 44 years old btw. I feel better than I have in years and I'm only 3.5 months in!
If i'm hungry I'll eat a second meal, but usually I don't even think about it. Cutting out the sugar and carbs has dramatically affected my hunger.
aren't you concerned that you are not eating enough?
Let us know how you are doing. 🙏
Still doing great. I've lost 30 lbs this year (5 months), despite taking a two week break (vacation - didn't lose during that time, but also didn't gain anything) and not exercising a whole lot. It wasn't as hard to go back after a break than it was originally starting.

How do you curb the hunger :(

This diet helped with your PCOS?
This makes so much sense. I keep telling people the same thing about how if we’ve done the “low fat” processed and “diet” stuff since the 70’s, then why aren’t we thinner and healthier?!? So much misinformation out there. Love this interview!
Dr. Fung and his information have changed everything for me. Down almost four sizes, getting great muscle and feel sharp and amazing. I turn 55 this week and feel better than I have for over a decade. My genetics and family history say I should be diabetic, but instead, I've optimized my glucose levels. Good stuff!!
Dr Fung is now famous all over the world.
So awesome for you! Look forward to great things! 🎈

Sugar doesn’t make you gain fat. The fat you eat is the fat you wear, bro.
Can I recommend an alternative? Only buy one snack at a time. That way you can allow yourself a treat (so that it doesn't feel so restrictive) but you aren't liable to binge (since the journey back to the shops would outlast the binge).
Right! Jealous of those people that can just half one slice of cake....
just don't bring it in the house. that's the ticket! since i personally love chocolate (being a woman is my excuse!), i buy totally unsweetened cocoa powder and add it to my coffee, or make a very low sugar hot chocolate with fully fatted milk. if i am out and dessert is ordered, i get cheesecake or something creamy. the fat is actualy more satisfying than the sugar, at least to me. just some tips from someone who is a fellow struggler!

@@soleneharp4593 a tip don't eat any bread grains if you go true kito. And make sure you keep the fat nice and high so your body has nothing else to run on watch butter bobs videos. A craving killer is make coconut macaroon fat bombs they turn of the gremlin hormone fast. Just insure you get most your calories from healthy animal and plant fats. Make keto breads if you can't do without. And use metimucal to ensure fibre if you can't eat enough leafy greens to keep your stool right it works you will loose lots and your hunger will stop. That's when you know your doing it right. When cravings return you just ate a bad choice ? Like sweet peanut butter or fruit juice or ? If that happens do the fat bombs or a few eggs in butter and a bottle water you come back into kito

@Armenias Thunk
Andrew is not pointing at Dr. Fung. It was other people's idea that thermodynamics can be simply applied to metabolism. Those are the one's Andrew is pointing out.
You know people like Jason Fung and yourself are saving lives and lifetime of sufferings right now. Can't thank you enough. 🙏
I LOST ABOUT 50 LBS. AND MY DR.,

Please continue taking Metformin. Aside from controlling insulin it is a lot like fasting. It prolongs Longevity by also reducing cancer, cardiovascular disease and even neurodegenerative disease. Please Google metformin longevity for more info on this amazing drug. And it is safe and dirt cheap. Nir Barzilai is just starting a TEAM study on metformin and longevity.
@@jackbrondwin3371 actually metformin can be highly dangerous for you with fasting.. do not recommend metformin.
@@thenewbrazy9997 after 15 years taking metformin my brother got failed his liver.
@@jackbrondwin3371 metformin gave me nearly debilitating colitis when I was prescribed it for pcos. I took myself off it after 5 years of misery, even tho it helped my period. I'm stuck with a lesser version of colitis now thanks to the damage it did. Now I'm regulating hormones through diet change and some supplements.
Thank you Dr Fung.
As an interviewer you ask great follow up questions.
I have never put on weight in my life so far. I am 37 yrs old and weigh 47. I am body shamed by many calling me skinny and shit. But at the end of the day I love my self. I don't have diabetes or hypertension or thyroid issues. But this Doctor is amazing. Medical industry is ruined by big pharma... God bless you Doctor.. You are with a noble cause. Respect from India.
This man is the only man I trust with advice about nutrition and weight loss
Dr rhonda Patrick is excellent also.
I also listen to Dr. Berg.
"You don't have to eat muffins every two hours to survive."
Words by which to survive.
I love how open and honest he is about everything, including food industry funded research. Thank you for this, hope the message spreads 👏🏻
When muslims fast one month a year...we dont feel hungry at all...we just get so thirsty for water...it resets our whole body mechanism...and gain higher spiritual level...fasting does make a difference & putting in my body natural foods without additives makes big difference...meditate...be happy ...keep positive...therefore I dont just fast Ramadan but throughout the year, interval fasting ...ud be surprised, how little of food our body needs to survive n be well
That’s not fasting. You still eat within 24 hours. That’s just a break from food.
Nema Na čemu that’s still fasting.... how is that a “break?” Such a hater.
Nema Na čemu the body enters the “fasted” state after your last meal has been digested and metabolized, usually 2-8 hours depending on what your last meal was. So yes, Muslims during Ramadan are fasting.
@@nemanacemu2024 lmao your actually dumb. Breakfast literally is breaking your fast. A break from food is fasting 🤦🏾♀️ don't try slander muslims
@@nemanacemu2024 it's real fasting , try it and then judge
I have rewatched this like 100 times now. Absolutely love this
Wow, thank you!
I finally get it!!! Thank you Dr. Fung! You're a cool dude. God bless you and your family.
I love how Dr. Fung explains everything so clear and easy to understand. I'm always looking forward to watch Dr.Fung's interviews and lectures!!
To summarize of his ultimate losing weight technique:
Water fast or dry fast?
Cassie Andrus dry fast for autograpy and water fast is enough
Ryan Sean your body starts to burn fat after hour 16. By 18 it’s really high. You don’t need to go all the way to 24 hours.
Thank you so much
Can you sustain this till u die?
