    My first fast lasted 15 days. My second fast lasted 20 days. My 3rd fast lasted 40 days.
    Most of my ailments were resolved.
    I did hospital visits before and after, and my readings changed significantly for the better.
    I stopped needing my inhalers. My osteoarthritis pains stopped. My inflammatory readings went from 1200 to 5! Two of my doctors discharged me. Fasting works

      av chimay and the breakfast industry!!! That is my theory as to why it's so under promoted. I never was a breakfast person, however all the massive marketing for it made me feel like I was wrong or unhealthy for not eating "the most important meal of the day"...but no matter what they try and push on you, your body knows what's best, it sends you signals point blank period, i dont get the signals for hunger in the mornings when i wake up so i dont eat, and im just fine, I'm in a super healthy place with my weight because i basically don't force feed myself when my body simply isn't hungry.

      @@chenanigans Yup i never had breakfast for many years. They told me to eat 3 times a day or you will get ulcers but i've been doing IF for many years and i am fine. I am healthy, laboratory tests all normal.. If i eat 3 times a day i get weak and feel heavy. That's why i eat mostly once a day only, sometimes 2, that's enough my body needs.

      E vL - isn’t it so, I never believed I could not be starving hungry like day and night. Who knew? I have been OMAD for about three months now after 4 day fast. Went from 201 stabilized at 173. Actually didn’t want to go down so much. But stable now so ok. Had all to do to loose 5 lbs prior. Now I am not hungry ever, nor crave, ever. No appetite. Frankly, was easy to do. For my one meal have to eat a ton - hit the buffet places, but accustomed myself so no more stuffed feeling. When I leave not even feel full. Missed by usual feeding time today by 2 hrs, didn’t bother me at all. Although by lipids were good, have improved. Blood pressure dropped, resting pulse dropped below 50 (avid runner), ran fastest 5 miler ever, and I’m 61. I heard from everyone that getting older you slow down, metabolism slows, put on weight, etc. I don’t know what to say to them, like being from a different world 😎 Peace.

    I started intermittent fasting June 2016. It was easy...I lost 22 pounds in 19 days and went on to lose all of my weight which was 34 pounds by July 15. I now eat this way everyday. I have a window of5 hours where I eat. I eat clean and I DO NOT EAT SUGAR. I am 60 years old and people think I am 45. Eating this way has so many positive changes: Digestive, energy, hair, muscle, skin.....it is undeniable.

    I’m on my 6th day of water fasting. I’m very obese and was in the danger zone for type 2 and high cholesterol. My doctor prescribed meds but instead I chose this method. I’m so happy that I did. My levels are at normal levels and my blood pressure is regulated. I haven’t weighed myself yet but I can tell I’m losing a lot of weight (loose clothes). I want to do 21 days and then start IF (16-8 method). I think modern medicine disowned this because this will take money out of their pockets. They get paid off your illness. Drug you up on medication you can barely pronounce or know what it’s doing to your body. Key factor to better health is watch your intake (learn your blood type and the foods associated with it) exercise (really moderately even short with burst of intense training) and sleeping. That’s mainly it. This video is amazing ☝🏽👌🏽

      Blue Water I didn’t know how long I’d do it. I said 21 days but honestly I recommend doing it until you truly feel like it’s enough. Everyone is made differently so I would never do it to break a record or anything just for benefits to your body and mental health.

    • @XerophSerenade
      @XerophSerenade 8 років тому +26

      It is definitely easier when eating high fat low carb.
      Recently I have allowed myself a bit more lenience with refined sugar as there are so many Christmas related sugary treats flying around and as much as I like the results of abstaining there is pleasure to be had from letting go once in a while. It's always my aim to have a slightly more relaxed December with an ultra strict January on the horizon.
      Anyway, to get to the point I have noticed that it is more difficult to fast when I have been eating refined sugar. I get hunger pangs sooner than I normally would and they are more insistent than usual. Presumably this is down to there being more insulin in the system and less leptin.
      Mike put out a video recently on helpful hints to reduce weight gain and I adhere to the suggestion of having MCT oil before or during eating sugar, except I use coconut oil as in my eyes nature knows best. It works and it also means I can eat an amount of refined sugar that would normally be enough to kick me out of ketosis but it doesn't due to the oil slowing absorption and lowering insulin response.
      I hope that helps somewhat. Give the fasting a go! There are great psychological benefits to be had as well as the physiological ones.

    Alternate day 24hr fasting is hugely successful for me!! I'm finally losing significant weight again. First 50 lbs was IF 20/4, but weightloss began to stall significantly. Now it's almost a pound a day loss!!! Eating day is not IF. Keto meals whenever I want. Fasting day is dinnertime to dinnertime. Fasting insulin is finally controlled for me. Hallelujah! 70 lbs more to go. I am confident it's going to happen.

    I actually started doing this fasting and feel the difference. The first day is OK. Second day is a Lil rough. Third day was horrible. And the fourth was smooth sailing. Like my body understood what was happening. My mind and thinking became more clearer. It's an amazing feeling. Lost about 10 lbs already.

    Yup. Skin tag fell off my face near my eye. I fast 48 hours every other day. Keto, omad and alternate day fasting. I feel amazing and weight is flying off. My body is healing from insulin resistance and my periods are regulating. When i get down to my goal weight i will prob do omad every day or a 20:4 intermittant fasting for the rest of my life.

      Yes if you've been doing keto for at least a few weeks you start getting benifits from autophagy slowly around 20 hours and it will slowly come quicker if you continue to intermittent fast for longer periods with a keto lifestyle.
      Some reports say 12 to 14 hours it begins for someone who has been doing IF for months, but it hasn't been confirmed in a controlled study yet.
      Personally I have been intermittent fasting for a year averaging 21/3.
      I feel autophagy kicking in around 18 hours after a 2 hour workout and break my fast a few hours later.
      When skin tags disappear, scares clear up, wrinkles around your eyes dissipate then you can safely assume your getting some autophagy going on.
      OMAD seems to be the way to go but I can only do it once or twice a week.
      I was 320 lbs 2 years ago, 225 a year ago, 195 today.
      5'10" 60 year old Canadian male.
      If I can do it anyone can.
      Presently my skin in slowly tightening up with good nutrition from bone broths, collagen, omega 3 fatty acids etc... in my eating window.
      My hopes are autophagy will get the job done even if it takes a few years.

    Two nutritionists insisted I eat a snack right before bed. They both told me as a diabetic I would mess up my insulin levels and hurt myself if I fasted.
    After listening to many doctors, but especially you, Dr. Fung, I have decided to try intermittent fasting. I had a bout of afib last July because I dehydrated in over 100 degrees weather twice in 3 days at outdoor concerts. In the hospital, I realized I hadn't eaten for about 30 hours and my brain fog lifted, I felt energized, and my blood glucose was not far from normal. I was shocked. I'm 63, 5'11", 350 pounds, diabetic on insulin and metformin, and I am very aware that I must behave differently or drop dead soon. You make sense. What you say makes sense and is based on good science.

      But you can have obese people who are severely malnourished because they eat lots of empty calories, food that is calorie dense but nutrient deficient. And they are driven to eat more because the body is screaming for nutrients, but they eat some more empty calories, repeating the cycle over and over. I would argue that obese people do need nutrients, as well as many other things like nutrition education, and developing a healthier relationship with food. The essential vitamins and minerals we need are “essential” because the body cannot make them and/or store them in large quantities and they must be obtained from the food we eat, while performing numerous and complex inter-related functions in the body.

We already know that we can eat anything we want and get lean if it fits our macros but if someone is not getting enough protein, they'd like be losing muscle overtime so that could be an issue. Interesting subject!

      autophagy is optimal on 2-3 day fast, after that you start losing muscle.
      Dr.Fung advocates intermittent fasting , not complete fasting.
      you should fast at most up to 2-3 days depending on your body, fastin for prolonged period of time is unhealthy.

    I am 75 years old. Last year I did a 25-day water fast. I had no problems. I was advised to not exercise or take long walks, but to rest because one loses muscle if they do too much exercise (walking for a 1/2 mile, for example). When I was around 48, I did a 3-week water fast and walked on the beach daily, went out dancing a couple of times and felt more energetic when I was active. The only difference in this 3-week fast was that I drank Perrier water with a little lemon once a day. When I fast again, I plan to be more active, e.g. walk by the river, go to work at my part-time job as a CA (bagger) at Whole Foods (5 hours a day Mon. Thursday and 8 hours Sunday. I plan to do a 6-day fast using this protocol. I would appreciate any input.

    When you eat 3 meals per day or more, your body is always producing the storage hormone Insulin. When Insulin is up, Glucagon (the fat and sugar releasing hormone ) is down. Eating fewer meals each day is advantageous because it will put you in a better fat burning state.
    When you are in a fasted state your body is burning stored energy like fat. Intermittent fasting is a great way to keep Glucagon up and Insulin down.

    This is a must watch for anyone who has issues losing weight. We've been lied to about what we should eat and how often. I've been doing keto for years, but on May 2nd (2018) I added fasting. I figured I'd start with 16-18 hours, but the first day I went 22 hours with a little discomfort at 1 PM, but that went away quickly. My first 3 weeks I was able to fast 20-22 hours per day every day! I've lost about 1/2 pound a day for a total of 14 pounds as of May 30th! Last week (4th) I allowed 1-2 oz of a fatty cheese, brie, which curbs the discomfort without causing any issues. The 4th week I still averaged 1/2 pound a day. Oh, BTW, I am not doing any exercising, BUT I just ordered a bike because I really feel good and want to get moving.

      I was heavier but lost the same amount of weight. The last time i was 99kg (as of 12am this morning), I was 18 yo. I turn 26 on Monday. I can't believe it tbh. I don't do keto because i personally feel like the amount of fat makes me feel like throwing up. I used 3 different types of diets, all of which actually made the transition to Fasting almost effortless. Now i try to fast between 48-72 hours

    I first discovered intermittent fasting a year ago, worked great for a while but then fell off the wagon and starting overeating thinking I can just fast the fat away whenever I want, that didn't go well. About 3 months ago I decided to do intermittent fast everyday and just go the first 6-8 hours before having food. Most days this is just skipping breakfast. Now I am at a point where I don't feel like I am doing anything special, I go about my day and eat when hunger kicks in which is about 6-8 hours after waking up and I have just been seeing the fat melt off like butter and great muscle gain at the gym

      Cos the thing with shorter eating window periods is you don't get to have the appetite to eat in short periods. So 8 hrs is ideal for some. In my case, I got bored with the 16/8 and challenged myself with the 24 to 36-hr fast, and it felt much better.

    A very important aspect is the fact that carbs and sugars put us on a vicious craving and insulin spike cycle. On the other hand, healthy fats and oils satiate hunger and do not trigger cravings.

      Andrew Tessler It means 16 hours of fasting and 8 hours of eating, usually done every day at that interval. It's pretty sustainable and fits with life style easily since a good chunk of that fasting period is while sleeping.

    Awesome talk!! Been on IF for 3.5 years now (23 hrs three times a week and 15 hrs the other 4 days). About salt: you can put some salt into tiny empty capsules, which are available in many online stores and are super cheap, this way you don't have to taste nasty salted water nor feel salt depleted

    • @Jefferdaughter
      @Jefferdaughter 6 років тому +4

      Have you tried unprocessed salt? Natural, unprocessed salt like Himalayan salt taste sooooo much better than the processed stuff. Just a pinch or two in a quart or liter of water, and there is no 'nasty salt water' taste. Or the amount of salt you want to take each day can be mixed into the amount of water you plant to drink each day. Still no bad taste. Add a squeeze of lemon and you will have a very refreshing drink.
      Natural, unprocessed salt also tastes great on food. Once you start using it, you will not want to go back to the processed stuff. Sad that the industrial food system has even messed up something as simple and basic as salt.
      These days most all sea salt is contaminated with tiny bits of plastic (which release toxic chemicals) and who knows what other pollutants. Table salt is highly processed, heated to around 1,200 F, which changes the structure, all the minerals are stripped, and chemicals are added back so it does not clump in damp weather or high humidity, ('When it rains, it pours...').
      Unprocessed salt, like Himalayan salt or Redmond salt, is mined from ancient sea salt deposits - it's pre-pollution sea salt! These salts don't burn like regular processed table salt can (especially noticable when eating something like potato chips when you have a cut or sore on your lips). It has beneficial trace and micro trace minerals. And best of all. the flavor is wonderful!

      Thankfully, Fung, and others, explain that it is the daily restricted calorie intake that trigger a slower metabolism. Even when people exercize for many hours a day, as on The Biggest Loser TV show. Even YEARS later, the contestants' metabolism remains damaged.
      When we eat frequently, especially foods that trigger insulin release - sugar and starch - that makes the body store fat. As Fung says, people used to know this. No eating between meals. No sugary or starchy foods if you want to lose weight. Simple.

    • @jerppazz4525
      @jerppazz4525 6 років тому +7

      @@Jefferdaughter its calories in calories out. insulin doesnt make a meaningful difference. only thing that all these eating styles do is make the calorie restriction easier. intermittent fasting, low carb, make you more satiated by eating more protein. and not eating that much carbs/limiting eating time affects insulin levels which makes the sugar cravings go away etc... ie EASIER. FASTING in itself is not the weight losing trick. its the calorie restriction. which is made easier by fasting. without people even noticing it they are eating less calories. for example the every other day fasting: of course it will lose weight since your weekly calories will be a lot lower than they would be if you ate everyday. all other mental things like cravings etc should not be taken into account when speaking of what makes you lose weight. its the calorie restriction. everything else will make it easier.
