      I think it’s just because music is the effective medium, metal is just one facet of that. People tend to gravitate towards music they relate to. Maybe she just never related to the music, Y’know? I don’t think it’s so crazy, personally.

      Yeah, people who don't get metal see it as angry and violent. Those who know, know it as catharsis and acceptance.
      I've never seen a more welcoming community than the average metal scene. We had trans and gay kids moshing with us back in the 2000 and no one gave a damn. They were just part of the gang.

  • @coder4liberty
    @coder4liberty Місяць тому +63

    Tatiana's lyrics are always a good choice for these discussions because Tatiana is so open about her anxieties she goes through as a performer, as an introvert and as a Russian from war torn Ukraine who rose above her situation to come to where she is. In my experience she is truly the most impressive human being I have ever met. Strong, talented, smart, creative and able to go out every night on stage despite her aversion to crowds and put on a dynamic show as the center of attention. Also imperfect and not afraid to say so.

    • @TheRealAb216
      @TheRealAb216 Місяць тому +26

      She isn't a "Russian from Ukraine" she is A Ukrainian from Ukraine.

    • @coder4liberty
      @coder4liberty Місяць тому +13

      @@TheRealAb216 She is ethnically Russian from Horlivka or in Russian Gorlivka. That says nothing about her allegiance to Ukraine it's just her heritage. that is a significant detail to her story because not only has she seen the war there up close but she has endured criticism for not taking sides clearly enough in her early 20s. Ethnic Russians from the Donbas are a sensitive subject for Ukrainians. Ethnically Ukrainians are not Russians they are Cossacks. Two different Slavic races. That has nothing to do with nationality.

    This is so cool... conversations about metal and mental health. I don't claim to be mentally healthy... anything but. But as someone that metal music, the heavier the better, has literally kept him alive for over 30 years, gave me a voice to scream with, gave me an outlet for the feelings that built up inside me over the course of my lifetime...
    It takes music that makes you want to beat someone with a sledgehammer to keep you from actually doing it, whether that person is someone else, or yourself.

    Jinjer is a good choice for those who want to discuss some mental issues.
    Because most band's lyrics is about some mental issues or somehow related to that kind of topics.
    Few suggestions:
    - Perennial (live at Wacken 2019) - the song about a seasonal affective disorder.
    - Wallflower (OMV) - the song about an introversity and struggles related with it.
    - Pit of Consciousness (live in Kiev/OMV) - the song about some kind of dissociative identity disorder.

    Although she said it was a shock, she seemed pretty chilled, her facial reaction was like "Huh?" Lol. One of the most composed reactions I've seen to Tati. I love her interpretation of the lyrics. Many people associate the lyrics just with Tati, and how she is a Pisces. But we can associate the lyrics with anyone. When she said that there is a part of you, when you're going through depression or contemplating suicide, that is hurting, it hit me and brought back a memory of thinking that as a young man. I don't think that anymore, but when she said that, it resonated with me and I didn't think of that or associated that with this song.

    If you want a great song to ease people into metal, and which deals positively with mental health, exploring themes of despair and anger, to joy and self-worth, you NEED to check out "Edge of the World" and "We the United" by the Japanese band LOVEBITES (they sing in English, but you may still need to pull up lyrics). They also have several other songs that deal with mental health issues, such as depression and the fear of asking for help ("Shadowmaker"), and grief, acceptance, and self-love ("Glory to the World"), and dignity in death ("Swan Song"). Not only are they virtuoso musicians, but they are a very positive force in the world of heavy metal. They are also best experienced live (though one of the links below is to a music video).

    Release the Archers has a song called "Awakening", Jinjer has a lot more songs and they are all good. Alien Weaponry has a song called "Kai Tangata". It is Maori metal from New Zealand. Hu Band has a song called "Wolf Totem". That's Mongolian metal.

    might be a bit hard one to do, due to the subject, but rather suitable as well in a dark way, is KoRn - Daddy.
