When she was recording this vid, little did she know she would literally talk with the artist ❤️ I would die for a reply from Tati❤️ You are really lucky❤️ love you both❤️
Please .... look back in time to when female harsh vocals became my passion ... Kittie "What I always wanted " from about '99
19 June 2022 , Tati was on Hellfest stage performing this live .
Nightwish was on stage , June , 25th , so there are some new live versions of their older material , Tuomas has changed some songs a bit .
Lot of other band too , arte concert has streamed most on YT .

@M 40 Cool, I had not heard that!
“Sounds like she has the ability to go to a more aggressive tone” Best first impression analysis I’ve ever heard.
But... Still hit hard 😆
Elizabeth knows things... I wonder if she drinks.
I laughed when I heard her say that too. I thought, "Oh you sweet and timid little thing...are you in for a shock"😆😆😆
I watched the Phil Collins "In the Air Tonight" video before watching this one. Same kind of foreshadowing there. She's psychic.
You should listen to fairy god mother analysis than
1:40 "She's got an intereting tone quality. It's got a little bit of rasp in it".
Jinjer army rubbing hands together: "This is going to be spectacular".
At 1:40 she's don't know nothing yet..... :-)

I've seen Jinger live. Tatiana can ABSOLUTELY do all of this live, without any effects. Watching your reaction to her skills is amazing; the stunned looks you give as she shows off her (admittedly amazing) range and skills are absolutely charming.
How do you know they aren’t using effects? Whether it’s not peddle-triggered or the sound engineer adding it?
I saw her live - she does sing for real
@@nikabay7190 right… but it will be going through effects etc. everyone who sings live has reverb put on right? So makes sense can just add a bit of distortion. Might not be a peddle on the stage, but easy to do on sound desk. I’m not suggesting she’s miming
@@mrbejam You can hear when a voice has distortion. She doesn't use distortion at all. Not live and not any albums

Me: lol, just wait...
Hahaha
lol I'm like "honey, you got NO idea how aggressive that tone gets"
Lol...
Lol i told my self ,she's not ready hahahaha
lol!
She actually said in an interview that it's really important for her that the lyrics is as clear as possible, because she spends time writing the lyrics and wants them to be understood. It's also not her native language.
it's a shame I understood none of it then hahaha
Music transcends language, place &time. Even if she sang in her native language I'd search for translation & look into it. Cz lyrics are as much as important like the delivery & technical stuff
Do you know if she writes them in Russian and translates it? Or like, does she use a dictionary? She uses complex english words a lot and it's not her first language
It seems a lot of people always tell me they can't understand what's being said but for me it literally sounds so clear even when growling
She's said in an interview (with Elizabeth, actually) that she indeed does exactly that. For her it works out well because the translation seems to keep a lot of the poetic intent of the original.
As for growling women, there comes Angela Gossow from Arch Enemy to mind. She used to do some of the heaviest growls, a true monster. There are perfect examples of this in the live versions of the song "We Will Rise".
Yesss love Arch Enemy!!
Alissa also can sing in a huuuuuge range...

"I didn't know a female could do that,"
Oh.. you sweet summer child.
Elizabeth: “sounds like she could have a little more of an aggressive tone”
Tatiana: *hold my false chords*
She was also inspired by tatiana!.
She uses false chord?
@@MarcosIx yes, many people confuse her screams with fry but its a very basic low false chord
@@thedjentlemansshow5910 I'm not sure about that! False cord is a constriction of the false cords which almost always produces high pitch. Fry is wide open and almost always produce lower pitches!
Marco from Nightwish does false cord and it's very high and his throat clenches! The key is generally to look at the neck. Tatiana was asked and she said she doesn't know if she's a fry or false cord she just does it... And doesn't reccomend it.
My favorite comment so far 😂😂
"She has an ability to go to a little more aggressive tone." If you were an author, this would be fantastic foreshadowing.

I'm like 3 years late to this, but this is why I differentiate between a "Singer" and a "Vocalist." Taty plays her voice like an instrument, she doesn't just sing. And I don't mean that focusing on "singing" is lesser or inferior, it's just a different skillset. I love to think about what would have happened if Taty had been trained to be a classical opera singer. She probably would have been able to kill a man.
This may sound weird, but when I’m having a bad day, THIS REACTION VIDEO IS WHAT I WATCH!!! Your face, totally locked in, and then almost looks like you’re gonna cry, but just roll out of it and start laughing, and right back to being amazed. When I’m having a bad day, that’s what I need to do…

Elizabeth- "I didn't know that a human female could make a sound like that..."
Tatiana- " I'm not a mere human, I'm Ukrainian."

As a metalhead, I do believe screaming and growling counts as singing. The amount of practice it takes to have that ability takes longer than you thing. To be able to scream or growl healthily, without damaging your vocal chords takes a lot of time and patience to get to that point.
Exactly like that 👌🏻🤘🏼
coming from the same place, i think only when you do screaming correctly it should be considered singing. if you do it wrong and you destroy your voice then i think it is not singing at that point.
The thing that counts against it for me is that there is generally no pitch or tone control. It's a scream.
It's a vocal effect, it's a technique that's not easily mastered without destroying your vocal cords, but I kinda see why someone might not consider it singing.
@@lmaoroflcopter if there are lyrics it is singing
@@mkall well that definition is broken right from the off.

She's awesome and the band is awesome. I found them only 2 weeks ago. I have no idea where I've been to not stumble on them sooner.
5 stars no doubt.
Your open-mindedness and willingness to consider the merits all types of music is really amazing. Many would just dismiss this as a type of stunt or gimmick, but you examine it neutrally. Also your ability to spot nuances is fantastic. Great video.
Every other vocal coach: "Be careful doing this, it may hurt your voice".
Elizabeth: "Yeah, she's not doing anything unhealthy".
Elisabeth knows whats going on and is not as biased
This is true. That being said... be careful when you try this at home, kids. ;-)
And with that they mean to warn you not to try it on your own. Smart, because people definitely try it on their own.
Well I think they are just saying to do it properly. Elizabeth is acknowledging that Tatiana is doing it properly. So I don't think she's necessarily saying the opposite of what they're saying.
I wonder what Zach Ansley would say about this, he did so harshly critique other vocal coaches who said growling/fry screaming can be done in a healthy way... my gut tells me there needs to be a way to do it properly, but Zach is also very convincing in his reasoning here(and his approach to singing is similarly scientific): ua-cam.com/video/kSuSlTW1PRo/v-deo.html
"It sounds like she can go a little more aggressive wit her voice" Oh ho ho =D

It is absolutely amazing to re-watch this in late 2023, knowing that by now you've not only interviewed Tati herself but also have checked out other metal artists and collaborated with Will Ramos et al and are truly familiar with harsh vocals.
Can't believe it's been 2 years since I first watched this. This was the first musical reaction video I'd ever seen and it opened me up to a whole new area of awesomeness.
Most people's reactions be like: GOSH, OMG Stunned silence. Elizabeth; bursts out laughing, like a kid who's just been told that the ice-cream van is outside, and you can go get the biggest cone you like. It's this totally infections enthusiasm, which make you come back to the channel.
Weirdly I had the same reaction to Pulp Fiction the first time I saw it; I totally relate to her saying, "I've never laughed so hard in astonishment..."
Yes and the flavor of the day is Caramel Jalapeno Liver...
That's one of the reasons why she's my favorite UA-cam reactor. She just geeks out on everything and it's so infectious.
I mean, when you start to laugh, you definitely genuinely in shock, confused, and amazed .. cuz that what i did too 😅... I was laughing, got tears in my eyes, and kept repeating it...
That's the entire reason I started following her to start with. There's a million reactors on youtube, but she not only explains the technical aspects very well, and has an amazing ear, but I just love watching her face as she COMPLETELY geeks out on the music, regardless of the genre.
"Who is gonna be the one" live and "Perennial" live. I'm just gonna leave this here.
Yep, this. Perennial live as the best example of her vocal abilities and Who Is Gonna Be the One live as the best example of different growling modes, including extra low. As Elizabeth is not a metal listener, those two would be the only ones I would recommend just for pure Tati's voice analysis. Leave all the other songs for metal fans.

It's fantastic you recognize the way she screams is healthy and it's intent for intensity.
Please check out "Teacher Teacher" - Jinjer
Or for something new "Awakening" - Unleash the Archers
Or Unleash the Archers brand new song Abyss!
Not Awakening. That is especially instrumental-wise impressive. Better Unleash The Archers - Tonight we Ride. The strength of Floor plus a neat fry. ^^
Martyaxvar Tonight We Ride is one of the greatest power metal songs I’ve ever heard. And the vocal range explored on that song is just incredible.
Spiritbox is always worth a listen if this is something that has taken your fancy. In my opinion, a very delicate vocalist.
She already has

The music is awesome, and her singing voice is phenomenal. These guys rock.
I wish I could growl like Tatiana, and I am a grown male
Don't worry a voice coach will tell you it's a scream not a growl
Look up a false fold growl. I've been trying to train myself to do this shit and it's so much training. You can really fuck yourself up if you go about it the wrong way. But I'm pretty sure Tati uses false fold growls.
There's a WikiHow for you, man.
Dont we all...
I'm fairly ok at it, and iv been at it for 10+ years. You gotta really like practicing, and also realize these sounds are amplified by mics. Tati is not too awfully loud without one. And yes this is false vocal folds.
I LOVE how u understand the technique that goes into screaming and how difficult it is. I've seen too many ppl dismiss it as something not worth respecting as a real singing tactic. Especially as a classically trained person. thank you for respecting this art form!
I saw this when it first came out, but I just had to see Elizabeth's priceless reaction again. Love it so much
"Sounds like she could have a little more of an aggressive tone."
Yeah, just a little.
ha yeah, I was like "Just you wait!..."
3:08 "I didn't know a human female could make this sound."
Darling, who said Tatiana is human?
She needs to check out Angela Gossow
And Sabina Claassen, the mother of female growls.
@@nfekeskxnxngntnrkdkcn627 or Alissa White-Gluz
None of our metal queens are human
she's a goddess
I have used this song at multiple parties, it brings people to tears every time.
I knew she would be blown away with the first scream.
Is "screaming" considered "singing"?
Unequivocally, yes.
It can vary in pitch, tone, timbre, volume, range, etc. Generated from the same resources and tools as more "traditional singers". Though application, implementation, and construction may be a bit different. There's distincf technique involved to generate not only the sounds but also to preserve the instrument and to do it safely.
There's no way it can't objectively be considered singing, even if it's not someone's preference.
This was explained perfectly. What a great comment.
It brings to mind some people who consider Dimash to be nothing but a screamer, which is so wrong to me.
@@lilRadRidinHood WTF those people exist? o.OOOOO
they're called clean vocals and harsh/fry vocals.
Totally agree 👍
I had a friend in the early 90s who was the singer for a death metal band, she sang like this, she was also a trained opera singer. It's pretty amazing when people explore what their voices can do.
Was your friend Angela Gossow by any chance?
Elizabeth, You are so fun to watch in this video! The look on your face in anticipation is priceless just before she screams!!! Love it and Love you!!!!
Had to come back and comment that this is the video that brought me to your channel. Your joy for music and life and your openness to all music kept me here. Your happiness in your videos is infectious, and helps brighten alot of our days.
Wow, thank you! ❤️
I love how everyone of us is here for one reason... Because we know what to expect, but it never gets old to see. And right on cue, they all drop their guard around Tatiana.
Reaction videos: Oh she has such a lovely voice, so calm and gentle.
[5 seconds later]
Reaction videos: WHAT THE F- [throws headphones and flies out of chair]
All of us: [grinning and chuckling like idiots]
And it looks Like we are all addicted to People reacting to Tati
