Hello. I'm from Germany so let me give you some thoughts from someone who was born here. First of all, the first time I watched the video I was shocked and deeply moved. The song/video takes a very deep look into our German souls and how a lot of us feel about our country. It's a love-hate relationship. The video is loaded with tons of symbols, that as a German you catch onto. Let's start: in the intro you see Germania (personification of Germany) during roman/ germanic tribes time. The red lazer represents the "red thread" of the story/history. Astronauts from the future bringing Germania in a glass coffin (snow-white) so she can lead through the/her German history. You see a submarine in the hangar. Next you observe the twenties (Weimar Republic). The prison scene representing the rough, violent times especially for the majority of the population struggling to survive. Money raining down/ the great depression. And Germany's first attempt as a democratic state. In between Germania is dressed in knight's armor awing her knights/band with the Lazarus spear. Next Germania is pushed in a wheelchair by the band through the Berlin Holocaust Memorial with burning bodies. (Imagine the statue of liberty being shown like that. Sorry couldn't come up with an equivalent image of Britania). Next vignette the office scene showing east Germany and west Germany reunited (1990). Then you're being taken back to mideveal times, monks/ church are feasting off of Germania. In most scenes you'll see some church man involved. No coincidence. The concentration camp scene in the background you see V2 rockets ignition. The inmates are wearing different types of stars on their chests and a sign on the gallows reads: no photos. Germania wears an eye-patch first on her left, than on her right eye. Than a quick shot of Germania dressed modern with lots of gold leading German shepherds., representing Germany's wealth. The 70's scene shows the RAF extremists holding Germania/ Germany hostage. The tank scene with the Marx bust represents the uprising of June 1953 in the GDR, which was bloodily suppressed by the USSR army. Next vignette is the witch burnings shifting to the book burning. If you have a close look, at minute 4:45 you see a church man holding up a cross hugging a Nazi, symbolising the churches over all position to the horrific events happening during 1933-1945. The birth scene. Taking place in Valhalla. Germany is giving birth to dogs respectively "Leonberger" a breed preferred by Kings and Queens. The breed almost went extinct during WW1 and WW2. A cardinal/ Constitutional judge (dressed in red) helping a new Germany being born. At minute 5:50 you see the riots against refugees homes in the 90's in Hoyerswerda. Molotovs are being thrown and a car is being pushed over with the help of a man dressed in Nazi uniform. Than the scenes/ time vignettes start shifting faster and faster, showing how many times, when circumstances becoming too extreme everything is falling apart and Germania ( dressed in knight's) armor is crying. The outro is the piano version of the song "Sonne" which completes how we feel thinking of our past: a sense of sadness. To sum it up. Germany has a long, wild, violent, unique history, because we as a state of today have only existed since 1990. Yet the roots go back a very long time. "Young and yet so old" I hope that helped a little to understand the video and with that us Germans. We don't have a strong feeling of patriotism, but a strong sense of unity. With love from Germany❤️🤘🏻
Thanks for such oustanding summary, I’ve been to germany 3 times, I love it, especially Berlin because you can feel part of the history around, the first time I saw this video I felt goosebumps, it was something I never felt when listening to music in my life.
I've seen like 10+ reactions to this song. This right here is the first time the reactor actually takes the time to understand what is said and why. Thank you so much for that
"DEUTSCHLAND" is not a Song anymore, it's a great piece of art, in lyrics, music and visuals, describing the feeling of being German. Rammstein did a great job describing the feelings of german people today. Something like that was not done before in the music industry, that's why it's such a great thing. It's like a proud apology. Mit freundlichen Grüßen from Germanys little brother, Switzerland. Music can still be art, even today...
Agreed for the most cases. There are a few scenes where Germania is dressed in red and white, with her black skin being the third color of the Deutsches Kaiserreich flag.
@@SossaČesko why wouldnt she? Germania is a personification of an identity. It does not matter what color her skin is. Also its a smart way to avoid idiotic Nazis to identify with this video/song.
I think Rammstein are the biggest Poets of Germany in 21. century. It is so sad, that you cant understand german language and that you cant understand the meaning behind the words.
@@ModoTronic666 there is often a Double or Triple meaning of the words, you have no chance to understand as a not native speaker. Til the Singer is really a poet. look for yukon or Knebel from Til Lindemann.
@@ModoTronic666 in the Song Rosenrot He sings "stille Wasser sind oft tief" this is a old German saying for rivers and people. IT means quiet waters are often deep. My grandma teached me this telling, when i was a child.
Not everyone knows - not even the most germans - that "Deutschland über alles" does NOT mean "Germany over everyone (or everything)". The real meaning is that Germany itself is the highest valuable thing that we germans have and it´s worth to be protected against enemies.
Sorry but a Germany that is worth to be protected looks different...This Germany today is a Joke and the whole World is laughing about germany and the Politics that is against his Own people
Adding on to that: The original meaning was about the unification of the patchwork of different principalities and states into one whole nation state. It wasn't meant as putting Germany over other countries in the world, but instead leaving behind the past of quarrels and differences of the many smaller/bigger principalities and bringing them under one united roof. It was about the goal of nation building.
Maybe it's because I'm a little bit older, but I've learned in school about the will to unify the several states to one country and that this was meant with the words "über alles".
Yeah english speakers always translate it like "Germany over everything" but it's more like "Germany above all else" in the sense of fatherland as priority one.
Till Lindemann is writing the best German lyrics over the past 30 years now. His play with words can switch a romantic song into a horror scene or making you feel sympathetic with a cruel character just to turn this around with a single line you will question yourself for the feelings you had a second ago.
Germany is one of those countries that does have a horrible past like most countries. Germany though has a very public accounting of its atrocities. Rammstein does a great job of showing how you can love your country and hate it at the same time. The performance is more than a song and a music video. It is an art piece designed to bring out emotions and it does its job beautifully.
I think Germany has done a great job at atoning for their past. They are an example of how to deal with the dark pages of history, which every other country has as well. I’m from the Netherlands, born in the 70’s and when I was young the sentiment towards Germany was still very influenced by their occupation of our country. But as the years went by, that has changed to so much more respect and love for our big neighbor. I know most Germans are hesitant with feeling national pride (which is also a north-west European/calvinistic trait) but they should be proud of how the country handled their past and of what they have achieved.
Depends on your perspective We in modern times often tend to demonize the past because it's not our mindset anymore. Fun fact: The Germans never had slavery or slave markets. What the British and French achieved in 100 years with enormous slavery, Germans did in 40 years with hard work. Yes the Germans had colonies but unlike the British and French the Germans invested in these colonies because they were a base to protect our trade. Which was absolutely unthinkable at the time as everyone else in Africa was just letting hell loose. You can also look at the comparison between the British Empire and the German Empire in terms of economy. We were almost on par with the British even though we didn't even had nearly as many colonies. In addition, the British colonies contributed much more to their economy than Great Britain itself. For us it was exactly the opposite... Germany contributed 70% of the economy. The German Empire was truly an absolute high. From 1871 to 1923, the Germans were also responsible for *90* percent of ALL scientific and medical advances in the world with incredible inventions like the car, motorcycle, camera, etc. Before the British started World War I because they were jealous of us, it was actually the best 40 years ever here in Germany. Of course, based on today's technology, less so, but for the time... Absolutely unbelievable. At this time the first health insurance company was even introduced here in Germany by Otto von Bismarck. They still don't exist in the US today. Furthermore, German workers under Wilhelm II were the best paid workers in Europe. Some German inventions: - Light bulbs (Heinrich Göbel 1854) - The Telephone (Johann Philip Reis 1859) - Dynamoelectric principle, tram, busbar, founder of modern electronics (Werner von Siemens 1866) - The 35mm camera (Oskar Barnack 1925) - Nuclear fission and atomic bomb (Otto Hahn - emigrated to the Americans during National Socialism - 1938) - The chip card or microprocessor card (Jürgen Dethloff and Helmut Gröttrub 1969) - Periodic Table (Julius Luther Meyer 1864) - Jeans (Levi Strauss 1873) - The record player, record - (Emil Berliner 1887) - Aspirin - which all great athletes use to relieve pain and which saved countless lives (Felix Hoffmann 1879) - Spark plug (Robert Bosch 1902) - Thermos flask (Reinhold Burger 1903) - the toothpaste (Ottomar Heinsius von Mayenburg) - The coffee filter (Melitta Bentz) - Cassette recorder (Fritz Pfleumer 1928) - Tea bags (Adolf Rambold 1929) - The jet engines, jet propulsion, first war rockets V1, V2 of the Nazis (Hans von Ohain 1929) - First Rocket General (Hans von Ohain) - The Helicopter (Heinrich Focke 1936) - The first car (Carl Benz - With Honorary Schnauzer - 1886) - First computer (Konrad Zuse 1941) - Fanta (Yes Fanta during Nazi era, Wolfgang Schetelig 1940) - The typewriter (Peter Mitterhofer - 1869) - NASA (actually the US bought thousands of German engineers to build NASA because they can't do it themselves) - The first printing press (which was probably the best invention of all time because now people could start printing books, Johannes Gutenberg - 1440) - Motorcycle (Gottlieb Daimler 1885) - Birth control pill (Schering AG 1961) - the trigger of the gold rush (Johann August Sutter was Swiss, but actually German since he was born in Germany, but Swiss and German are one blood anyway, who started the gold rush in America. Not an inventor, but cool fact - 1848) - Diesel engine (Rudolf Diesel 1897) - Adidas (Adolf Dassler 1949) - Puma (Rudolf Dassler 1948) Germany, the land of poets and thinkers. that's what they called it. Today the land of complete idiots and deluded people.
Good lord woman, you are just frikkin' amazing at this! We watch a LOT of reactors for a ton of different things, and you're the very FIRST one ever to pick up that she is Germania right there at the beginning like that! BRAVO! Also, thank you for that whole part about the "red line", NEVER knew that til just now, so thank you and keep up the damn fine work!
How could you not, there is so much that anyone/everyone hould be able to take from this. her little thought at end is just cracking the egg open, there is soo much more with this song/video... but YOU have to find it... what I see may or may not be simillar to what you aee.... the poochie reference is too long to even take a crack at...
"Zeit" (with subtitles) would be a perfect choice to react for this channel... videoclip is awesome and the lyrics have great meaning... greetings from Brazil..
The boys don’t pull any punches with their videos. You get it right between the eyes with a sledgehammer. No egg shells! Love it! Obsessed with them! 🤘🤘 Respect for not skipping the credits.
You are not disrespectful at all for not being able to pronounce our language the correct way - You are very respectful for researching during your reaction, I REALLY love this reaction because you really look after what it is all about, I appreciate your effort a lot. THIS is a reaction, not someone watching this masterpiece and talking nonsense for like 30 seconds. Congratulations for your open and interested mind, if you mind sticking to this group I will follow you soon. One of the best "Deutschland" reactions I have seen so far, respect. Edit: As many others mentioned already - please react to Rammstein - Zeit with english subtitles on the official video. Another masterpiece which makes me as a 36 year old divorced father cry everytime.
9:50 also a very nice wordplay here is; "Wer hoch steigt, der wird tief fallen. Deutschland, Deutschland über allen." "The higher you climb, the deeper you'll fall." They use this 'Deutschland über allen' line the nazis used, after to make it translate it more like; "The higher you climb, the deeper you'll fall. Especially if you're Germany." Referencing more to the fall of nazi Germany, using their own line.
To me that's a key line that you can't take Germany Germany above all in this song the way the Nazis meant it. Originally to the writer it was important above all to have a Germany united instead of separated kingdoms. The Nazis took it as superiority above all. Rammstein pairs it with "the higher you rise, the deeper you fall".
It's also a play on words from the german national anthem "Deutschland über alles", where "über alles" means above everything, and "über allen" means above everyone. Edit: So it's explained in the video, actually. Ignore this comment.
@@xxJOKeR75xx ‚Deutschland, Deutschland über alles‘ was already used to mean superiority above other nations in WW1. And I'm sure this was also one part of what Fallersleben wanted to express. The other part is, that a united Germany is superior to small German kingdoms and states.
@@doubleT84the part "deutschland deutschland über alles" in the original anthem actually refers to how all the german states snd kingdoms were independant before the unification of the kaiserreich, so its a call to all germans to put the idea of germany (a unified germany that is) above the state/kingdom
I've been to their concerts 6 times, seens alot or artists like slipknot ect. But Rammstein dont make music, they make art. Best experiences of my life. The atmosphere is indescribable Rammsein 4ever! :D
Their concerts are shit... no interaction with the audience at all. They are playing their songs and have a nice stage show, but that´s it. Their songs and especially their videos are of course art. The concerts are definitely not. Slipknot and other bands interact much more with the audience. PS: I have seen them often as well. But I will not spend any more money on their concerts.
As a german myself, I'm actually proud of this very critical recap of History. Most of it was nothing to be proud of but that's what I am proud of. Proud of not being proud.
@DrSuicide420 I think this is a great reflection for all people of any country. And both portions of the paradox are vital. Some people hold too much pride for a country that has done serious harm. Yet others hate their country for what it's done wrong, when there is so much to celebrate about it - looking at you America/Britain. We need both views. Either one on its own is incomplete. Being able to discuss and then find balance between the bad and the good is something to be proud of.
As a non-German (English) it's something I absolutely do commend Germany for. We (British) don't really do enough, in my opinion, to acknowledge the bad we did, along with the good. Germany, whilst it has done some "sketchy shit" to put it politely, has also done a lot of good. All countries should really be thoughtful enough to acknowledge the bad along with the good because, in my opinion, only then can you really move forward.
You should exile most unneeded migrants to revive Deutschland . Today it doesn't feel like Germany . I am a Persian who love true Germany . Don't let Muslims become powerful in your country . I say it out of experience .@@berndbrakemeier1418
I am German: I love your interpretation, thank you for your deep insights and for explaining it so simply; yes, we Germans learn about the bad times, we talk in schools how it could have happened in the first place and why the Germans didn't stop it; other countries like to forget it and think they are better than their misguided ancestors, but they overlook the fact that they are making exactly the same mistake; knowledge is power, if you don't know (or don't want to know) how it happened, you are cursed to repeat it
I'm not a German, I'm English, and my very first school teacher - Mr Wilson - said something quite profound to us when we were maybe 7 or 8 years old (which was in 1992 for me) that has stuck with me ever since, "It's important that we all learn from History, or we are doomed to repeat it". A hell of a statement to make towards young children, but he was born in the 1950's, his Father had fought in WW2 in much the way my Great Grandparents had, with my Great Grandfather on my mothers side dying when his ship was sunk, and my Great Grandfather on my Fathers side being shot down and killed during the Battle of Britain. My Grandparents and Great Grandmothers never let me forget and always instilled in me that not every German was a bad person and that they were following the orders of their Commander. Obviously that's no excuse (and having served in the Royal Air Force myself subsequently, it's instilled in you that it's your duty to disobey illegal orders). It annoys and disheartens me that kids now don't seem to be as connected to the horrific events of WW2
@@NJTRAF Oh man. I'm from Russia, and we were also taught history in school and told how important it is to learn from the mistakes of the past. World War II took millions of lives and for a long time served as a lesson for both the Soviet Union and Russia. But then, at some point, everything changed so quickly that the same people who used to say, "The most important thing is a peaceful sky above our heads," now want to destroy all Ukrainians, Europe, and the USA. My grandmother hates Europeans and Americans and genuinely wishes them dead, even though she has never left Russia and has never seen a single foreigner. Television taught her to hate. Children here are constantly raised on stories of World War II, not to make them fear war, but to make them willingly ready to die for any order, just as their ancestors did. I never understood when May 9th, which is considered Victory Day over fascism in my country and used to be a day of mourning and remembrance, suddenly turned into a day of saber-rattling and shouts of "We can repeat the march to Berlin and the la Manche." Now my country has become a fascist, convinced of its own greatness, and in October 2022, they tried to mobilize me to go kill Ukrainians. That's why I've been living in Montenegro for 2.5 years. Unfortunately, knowledge of history doesn't save one from the possibility of becoming a monster.
@@romashkapalkin6895 I’m sorry to hear that my friend, and you’re right, knowledge of history alone isn’t enough. You have to actually learn from it and not repeat the same mistakes. Putin is, for whatever reason, fearful of the West, and being British I’ve never really understood why. When the Soviet Union collapsed and the Berlin Wall came down, the former Eastern Bloc countries eventually seemed to improve with Western integration and investment. Not perfect by any means, don’t get me wrong, but seemingly when run correctly better than previously. Russia is an ENORMOUS country, with a rich and colourful history, it is rich in natural resources and if it wanted to, it could grow alongside Western countries and integrate more into European society. I’ve met plenty of Russians and they’ve largely been good, the occasional asshole here and there, but that’s the same with every country in the world, my own included.
@@NJTRAF I believe that Putin is not afraid of the West at all, just as no one in the government fears the West. Their children have always studied at the best schools and universities in Europe and the USA. All Russian officials loved vacationing in France and Italy, and they sent their children to live in England and the USA. The fear of the West is not needed by Putin, but by the people. By talking about the terrible West that wants to conquer Russia, he tries to rally people around him and make them believe that he is their only protector. This is Hitler's method, who wanted to unite the Germans by claiming that neighboring countries were humiliating the German people. We are literally told that the people's poverty and lack of prospects are solely the fault of the West. The West is said to be draining the country’s resources, supplying us with goods, and taking our money, keeping us in slavery and dependence on the West. In 2022, when the war began, Putin simply started selling resources and buying goods from China. At the same time, people's lives didn’t improve and only got worse. Unfortunately, people still haven't realized that it's their own government that keeps them in bondage, and the poverty in our regions is due to our own government. Now, the West no longer buys our resources, so Putin has changed his rhetoric. He claims that it wasn't him who started the war, but the West. The West, he says, wants to destroy our country and imposes sanctions on Russia to do so. The worst part is that people still believe him, despite the fact that every year their lives get worse and worse. I don't know how long this blindness and this war will last, but I can no longer live in such a country. Not only because they wanted to send me to war, but because it drives me mad to realize how many people in this country hate nations they have never even visited. It’s monstrous.
@@NJTRAF We must learn from all history! In school we generally learn only 1 side of it, even the worlds wars are spoken only form the "Allied" side. You don't read about the Dresden bombings, you don't read about how their economy was so so bad because of WWI "Sanctions", there is a lot to it. In the Russian from it's the same, we like to say "Why does this mad man fear us so much?", yet we cannot have the will to go look at history (even recent) on how many times they were invaded and threatened from many sides (people usually bring up the cuba missile crisis, but forget that was a response to missiles in Poland which JFK ordered them removed, probably why he was killed). Same goes for China, India, Iran and so many others. History lives on today with all it's consequences, we can't ignore it ever, otherwise we will never heal this wounds that separate us (and that is the goal of the powerfull in this world, divide and conquer).
There's indeed a lot of things going on: Roman legionaires who survived the Battle of Teutoburg, when 3 legions were wiped out by Germanic tribes. This is considered as the birth of the German nation. - Appearance of a beautiful woman: she is Germania, the embodiment of the German nation. Rammstein chose a black german actress to give a finger to the extreme right. - Germania wakes up the dead Teutonic knights, a christian military order involved in the Crusades - Reunification of east and west germany, they all hug each other and it turns to an orgy - German immigrants in the 1920's, fighting illegal, deadly fights to make a living - Crooks in prison, devaluated money flying everywhere: the Wall Street crash of 1929 - The clergy feasting like pigs on the body of Germania while the common people starved (Middle Ages) - Far left terrorists of the Baader-Meinhof Group (Red Army Fraction) kidnapping Germania and killig people - V2 rockets taking off, the first ever ballistic missiles invented by german scientist Wehrner Von Braun, who later became an US citizen and is the father of the Apollo lunar rockets, the Saturn 5. - Prisoners of concentration camps during the holocaust, Germania is now wearing a nazi uniform. Later, the prisoners revolt and shoot the nazis. - Germania gives birth to Leonberger puppies, these dogs are typical of Germany but went almost extinct: the Nation is being reborn as a democracy - And much more stuff I didn't see or was unable to understand.
The young and yet so old part refers to while the Nation of Germany dates back to the Germanic tribes. The Term Rex Teutonicorum dates to the 11th Century. Which was basically the first mention of a United Germany. It became the Holy Roman Empire because in that time the German Emperor controlled large parts of Todays France Poland and Italy all the way to Rome. At that time though people didnt see themselves as German, more belonging to the Kindom or Duchy in which they resided and was a part of the HRE. (This was part of why the Nazis at the start had such an easy time convincing its People that they "reclaim" land that was historically HRE for 700 years. The young, because todays Democratic Germany after the Unification just exists since 1990.
good explanation but they picked the actress not as a finger to the extreme right but to the far left who continuously push that Rammstein is part of the "far right". We see this across the world now adays culturally. More and more the "far left" cries that anyone that doesn't agree with them is "far right". Rammstein was exactly like this as well. We dont really see the far right nowadays. its mostly normal left and the normal right but the far left is slowly pulling both of those positions to the left as the far left is still seen as "acceptable" where as the far right has been admonished for decades now
In the very beginning of the video the lead guitarrist (have forgotten his name) is knocking Till Lindemann in an illegal boxing match. He would probably have won the match in real life as well. In fact, when he was a young man he was champion of welter weight in GDR (= German Democratic Republic = communist east germany). Also Till Lindemann was a profiled athlet in GDR, but a swimmer. Quite many of Rammsteins songs is about water and the sea. Maybee it has to do with the fact that the ex-swimmer Lindemann write the song texts.
Ruby Commey was not chosen as a middle finger to anyone, to my knowledge Rammstein despise culture wars. She was chosen because the colors of the german flag are black, red and gold, a combination you see with and around her a lot in the video. Final picture in the video even shows her with the eagle (coat of arms animal)
:) Credits music... The reason why you heard song before... you heard song Sonne or because it was also played slowly throughout Deutschland. you could do hours worth of breaking down this song... took me a couple of times before I figured out the red lazer beams
Rammstein is a great band! Two great stories about them. First, back in the nineties they made a song called "weizess Fleisch" about rape, and all of the media called it tasteless, but the band received a letter fra a rape victim, thanking them for breaking a very strong taboo on talking about rape in eastern Germany... And that is very much their MO, to approach something difficult, but from an oblique angle, to open it up.... And Till's writing is just great! When the band was getting together, Till had just left his school because of an injury (he was a top level swimmer) he worked as a basket weaver in a small east German town and played music in his spare time. The band passed by him while he was sitting in an alley weaving baskets, singing to himself, and just had to have him on board.... Epic story!
You are so intuitive! I've seen many reactions to this song, and I can't think of many who have caught on to the themes and imagery surrounding Germania so quickly.
9:00 the thing with the german anthem is, "über" does not only mean "superior" or "better", it also means "more important" . The "Song of the Germans" (it was not used as an anthem initially) was composed in 1841 and Germany would not be unified into an empire for another 30 years (1871). At that time, Britain, France, Spain, Portugal, the USA and Russia had been established as countries for quite some time and german intellectuals felt Germany was hemorrhaging in all these struggles in between neighbouring german kingdoms or maybe even subdued in some "divide and conquer"-scheme divised by its european neighbours. So they wanted germany united ASAP, and "Germany over everything" especially meant Germany-united instead of Bavaria, Prussia, Westfalia, Badenia... The nazis later intentionally misinterpreted this line as "germany being superior to any other civilization on the planet" - which is why we excluded that line from nowadays national anthem. However, the anthem now begins with "Unity, and law, and freedom, for the german motherland..." That idea of being united instead of hemorrhaging our potential in silly wars among ourselfes has by now scaled up to the european theatre and some people are talking the "United States of Europe" as the next big thing.
I come from a very old German family with centuries of history starting in Preußen, and I am proud of that. I attended a Rammstein concert in Prague when I was 65 years. Although one can debate the lyrics, I enjoyed the concert for the full 100% standing in front of the the stage between far younger people. It must have been the best concert I have seen in my life.
Hi, I'm from Germany. Rammstein is playing a classic "Industrial Metal" style. A 50-50 mix of synthesizers and hard metal guitars. A big part of the German history in one video. The black woman as Germania. Germania is the personification of the German nation. It isn't and wasn't a goddess or Joan of Arc. The glass coffin: It is Little Snow White from the Grimm-fairytales....and from their own video "Sonne". Only with black skin and in space. The piano song at the end is the song "Sonne", too. The words "Germania Magna" at the beginning are a Roman name for the area of Germany, that wasn't conquered by the Roman Empire at that time. Germania Superior and Germania Inferior were the Roman conquered areas (Roman provinces) of Germany. The line in this song "So jung und doch so alt" (So young and yet so old) means: Germany as a unified state is very young. A unified German nation is only existing from 1871 onwards. Before that year of unification Germany was made of countless, little mini-states and the people identified first and foremost as Prussians, Hessians, Saxons etc, etc, etc. and only in a second line of thought they had a lose sense of being somehow Germans, too, as a kind of unifying second identity. So the area & the landscape where the Germans are living and the Germans themselves as a people...are thousands of years old. But only recently, in 1871, there was a unified Germany as one single state. So Germany as a unified state is very young...and at the same time it is thousands of years old. The battle of the Teutoburg forest against the Romans (and Rammstein as Roman soldiers and Germans alike). That battle is of ABSOLUTE importance for the German history. The hanged bodies in the trees were the beaten Roman soldiers, who were gruesome sacrificed to the Germanic gods...and were partly nailed to the trees. The Varus-(Teutoburg)-Battle was already in 9 AD. In 16 AD were the vengeance campaigns of commanding field general Germanicus under Emperor Tiberius Augustus. Therefore we see here the arrival of the Roman troops of Germanicus and they are watching their dead comrades hanging in the trees or getting their heads chopped off (for nailing them to the trees). In reality the Romans under Germanicus found only the bones of the Varus army in the various ways they were slaughtered, sacrificed and displayed at the trees. Slaves were liberated even decades after the battle. After the scenes with the Romans we saw the Hindenburg Zeppelin disaster (the burning Zeppelin in the background). The moustaches and clothing from the fight scene are from WWI and post WWI years. From the working class people in WWI and the roaring 20's. In the WWII years later on this kind of big bushy moustache was already out of fashion. The falling banknotes in the prison are not about corruption. That scene is about the hyper-inflation of the 1920's, that took away the savings of the Germans and left them in deep poverty and desperation. One had to pay a loaf of bread with a handcart full of nearly worthless banknotes back then and it hit the German people deep down inside and in their souls. Especially the poor ones and the simple workers. The V2 rocket (first manmade object in space) as technical triumph of the German spirit...and at the same time the killing of the concentration camp prisoners in the bunker factories below the mountains during the production of that rocket. This scene in the video could be a representation of a very specific concentration camp. It was "Mittelbau-Dora" below the Kohnstein mountain. A mixture between a big, huge bunker factory for V1 and V2 rockets and a concentration camp. The concentration camp inmates had several different markings for different kinds of convicts and their "crimes" sown to their chests, like it was in reality, too. A pink triangle for homosexuals, the star of David for Jews and two of them were marked with double-triangles for being Jewish and political prisoners. The book burnings of the Nazis and the burning of the witches of the church. In the same scene with the book burning there is EVEN MORE going on. The cooperation of the church with the Nazis, when the priest with the cross embraces the Nazi SA-man. The scene with the sign with the Hammer and a pair of compasses in a circle of wheat is the sign of the GDR (DDR). The socialist German state in the east that existed before the German reunification. Therefore it was Karl Marx in the background in the scene with the tank (not the scene at the concentration camp). The scene with Rammstein wielding guns (the pumpgun) and taking Germania hostage was about leftwing terrorism of the 1970's. The terrorists were called the RAF (Rote Armee Fraktion). My interpretation of the red scanner-like beams: There are two different kinds of beams. The massive straight red light beam that goes up into the heavens AND there were those smaller, thinner "scanner" beams. Aliens (or humans from the future) are scanning the whole German history. Like some real scientists are scanning and excarvating ancient Mexican or Egyptian statues, for example. The massive red light beam is the red ribbon of time that ties together all the historical events. PS: As for the dogs: Germans are fanatical dog lovers. We are a dog-owner nation. The dog is a firm part of Germany. PPS: They didn't eat the body of the woman and her inner organs, even if it really looked that way. They were eating the national dish of Germany, that was put on the body of the black woman: Sauerkraut, Kassler & sausages. In my opinion it symbolizes the church eating itself fat on the goods and values and food of Germany during the simple people (farmers, simple workers etc) lived a long time in a kind of hell of poverty and serfdom (the red fetish area below the table with Germania on it). But that eating scene could indeed have a double meaning. It could represent the 30 years war, that was fought for religious reasons and depopulated large areas of Germany. It forced the people to commit canibalism because nobody was there anymore to produce food. Except the fat, wealthy people of the church, of course. They were still able to eat enough. Only the simple people at the bottom (farmers etc) died from hunger and had to fight and die in that war. The 30 years war was the biggest catastrophe in Germany until WWI happened. PPPS: The short scene with the dogs and their gas masks = WWI, where in reality animals (messenger dogs & horses) AND soldiers were wearing gas masks, too. PPPPS: The puppies at the end are Leonberger dogs. The Leonbergers nearly went extinct during WWI and WWII. PPPPPS: The black woman in the prison was dressed in a Prussian uniform with a Prussian helmet. Till sings the famous, often misinterpreted, line of the "Deutschlandlied" (Song of the Germans), that is not forbidden in Germany but simply isn't sung anymore in our modern national anthem. Till sings in his version the line "Deutschland über allen" (Germany above everybody) What is a BIG change to the real line in the orginal Deutschlandlied-song. In the original Deutschlandlied song it is written as "Deutschland über alles" (Germany above everything). The real, whole line of that old Deutschlandlied goes "Deutschland, Deutschland über alles. Über alles in der Welt" (Germany, Germany above everything. Above everything in the world). This line is often misinterpreted by many people as chauvinism and as a looking down upon all other countries on this planet. But that is wrong and not many people know about that in Germany and elsewhere. The writer of that famous line didn't meant it in a chauvinistic way. When that song was written, Germany was divided into umphteenth mini-states, what made Germany relative powerless and defenseless. Therefore the task of German unification was the goal above any other goal for all Germans (at least the writer of the song meant it that way). So the main goal for all Germans had to be the united Germany. The goal of "(united) Germany above everything else". That was, how that line was meant by the writer of the song. The line isn't forbidden, like many people wrongly think. It's simply not sung anymore and not part of the official anthem of modern Germany anymore. This has NOT its reason in the seemingly chauvinist meaning of "Deutschland über alles", like many people wrongly think. This whole stanza of the Deutschlandlied isn't sung anymore, because in other parts of the stanza are borders and landscapes mentioned, that aren't German borders and landscapes anymore. We want to live in peace with the people and countries, who are now living in those former German lands and therefore we don't sing about those old borders and landscapes anymore. It has nothing to do with the "Deutschland über alles" line in that stanza, like many people wrongly are thinking. Finally: The scenes I'm now talking about are pretty dark and low light. The WWII submarine in the submarine bunker during the astronauts are walking by with the glass coffin. I think, the choice of the black woman as main actress was made, because: a) it makes any accusations of racism and fascism against Rammstein useless b) she represents one colour of the German flag and she is wearing the rest of the colours of our German flag as makeup and jewellery and clothes on her body: Black, Red and Gold c) it provokes many people EVEN MORE 😄 Greetings Mega
PS: UA-cam didn't allow me to integrate this information into the bigger text (above) for unknown reasons, therefore I'm posting it here: The troops, who smashed the Jewish shops during the Kristallnacht (not shown in the video) were SA (Sturmabteilung) in brown uniform and not the later SS (Schutzstaffel) in the black uniform. The SA did all the dirty work at the beginning of the Nazi rise to power...until the "Night of the long knives", an inner-Nazi power struggle, happened. The head of the SA (Ernst Röhm) was killed and from then on the SA was turned more and more into the SS under Himmler. The book burnings were part of the early Nazi years, too, and were done by the SA, too. One can see the SA burning the books and Till is watching it in a brown SA uniform. Both, Kristallnacht and book burnings were different things and happened at different times. The book burnings happened over a longer timespan at different locations at different times during the Kristallnacht was one big "event" that happened at one single day. Kristallnacht means "Crystal Night" and was called that way, because the smashed shop windows of the Jewish shops looked like thousands of crystals on the ground. But in the Rammstein video I've only seen the book burnings. PPS: The two beer drinking soldiers to the left side of the table, where Germania is lying on and where the priests are eating Sauerkraut & Sausages from her body, are not French soldiers and they aren't representing the French revolution. Those two beer drinking soldiers are Prussian soldiers and they are emphasizing the importance of Prussia for the German history. As far as I could see: They were from the era of Friedrich der Große (The Old Fritz), who was of extraordinary importance for German history. Amongst many other achievements he was the one, who brought the potato to Prussia and Germany. That saved many Germans from hunger and the potato became one of the most beloved foods in Germany on that way. PPPS: The name Rammstein comes from the German town Ramstein (with one "m"). There is an US-airbase and there happened a big, tragic airshow disaster, when two jets collided and fell into the audience. Therefore all the flames and the burning coat during the song Rammstein and all the fire in their shows in general. But that rather tasteless name and the negative press echo were too much even for Rammstein. So they changed their name later in Rammstein, what indeed means "battering stone". They delivered a half assed explanation for it decades ago. I've forgotten, what they said. A fact is, that they called themselves after that town and that airshow disaster. Probably for provocation purposes. Their old song "Rammstein" even tells in other words the story of that disaster and it tells about a fine day with a warm shining sun...and burning people. Neue Deutsche Härte was always a pretty unsatisfying new name for the music they made mainly: Industrial or Industrial Metal/Rock.
@@megatwingo from Italy . thanks for the key to reading the video and very interesting what you wrote and for this answer of yours it is worth writing some of my observations about the video because when I saw the beginning with the Roman troops my thoughts immediately went to the ambush in the Teutoburg Forest where a massacre of thousands of Roman soldiers took place at the hands of the Germanic tribes (three legions (the XVII, the XVIII and the XIX), auxiliary units (3 cavalry wings and 6 infantry cohorts) and numerous civilians) led by the famous traitor of the Romans Arminius who led them into an ambush (even if Varus was responsible for the unconditional trust in Arminius). so that hero for the Germanic tribes who flayed alive in addition to continuing to torture the corpses of the Roman soldiers. so it was the beginning of the destiny of a people of executioner nature as well as of its future ambitions. very interesting from my humble point of view as a history buff, we have a certain date of the beginning of a nation.
Can't believe how many people miss that part! I suppose they all are expecting Germany to be represented by a white, blonde, blue-eyed woman. I know I was initially startled by Ruby Commey playing Germania, but it works perfectly for Rammstein. Only they would be brave enough to go that route.
I love the line "Wer hoch steigt, der wird tief fallen; Deutschland, Deutschland über allen" (The higher you climb, the further you fall; Germany, Germany above everyone)
Thank you so much for this - I cried throughout as have often wondered which side of the German equation I fall on, only to see your warmth, humanity, and appreciation for ambiguity remind me where I stand when also confronting an extremely difficult and at times arguably demagogic past. To cry like that was priceless for me - Thank You.
Rammstein are great! I just saw them live , their show is so exciting and entertaining. The lyrics of Till Lindemann go very deeply about many themes and emotions. You should do the OV of Zeit and Mein Herz brennt. Greetings from Germany
I love that she recognized Sonne without even having a video of it on her channel. Shows she actually likes the band, not just using their popularity for clicks.
I love this song and in my opinion this is one of the best Rammstein songs. It's definitely a great song to listen to while driving down the Autobahn in Germany.
The last piano part is a reprise from the song "Sonne" also from Rammstein. A bit like saying "After all this you went through, here comes the sun (hier kommt die Sonne)". Very adequate. Ich liebe dich, Deutschland. Du bist das Licht der Welt.
This is the most beautiful music clip I've ever seen... That's why rammstein are in the history of the music and cultural heritage of the whole world already. This is masterpiece.
In my opinion this song and the official video is truly a masterpiece. In general Rammstein is a whole masterpiece and in my opinion they are creating art. I was at three Rammstein concerts, and every concert was a masterpiece by itself😍. Greetings from Germany😊❤️
Kudos. Wish I could leave multiple likes. This is the best reaction to Deutschland that I've watched - and I've watched many. You got the message of the song. German people sit in a stew of ingredients to be proud of and to detest. What is wrong and right are grey and can only be defined afterwards by victors in any conflict. Glad you called this a masterpiece. It is. Musically and as a story.
We germans have a lot of history, the german tribes, the roman invasion, the dark middelages, the crusades, Thirty Years' War, imperial french suzereignity, WW1, WW2, the cold war cutting thrue germany and the RAF Terror. There`s a lot to not like. And some people get stuck in this. My personal view is: Learn from the past so you dont repeat it, but dont hang on to it. Its the past!
Maybe i think that because i'm french, but i do think that most of the European nations are like germany ( with some nuances etc... ), we all did bad and good thing in the past, that we can both be proud and ashamed of. I'm sure a song like Deutschland can be made for all europeans nations ( changed with other national symbol ) and still be good
@@lucgonzo As much as i hate france (more as a sarkastic historical Thing)+bo2 Times WE are If we Go all the way Back one country or better Said 2 Brothers who grew Up one Loved by the Father one Loved by the mother and so grew Up different but i think we're now at a time where we grew Up completely and now get along a Lot better ❤
I think Rammstein portray a fine line quite well. I had tears in my eyes when I watched the video and I am still very moved. I am German, my family can be traced back a long way. All Prussian farmers over dozens of generations. I have not been able to find a single Nazi in my family tree. During the World War, however, my family lost everything that all these dozens of generations had built up. Simply everything. Part of the family died under unclear circumstances, another simply starved to death while fleeing, and those who survived ended up in a foreign part of the world with only a small amount of hand luggage, where they were treated like lepers and survived on a few stolen potatoes, run-over cats, etc. A lot of suffering, which my grandmother described to me very, very graphically. When someone then, as soon as they hear that I am German, immediately lumps me together with the Nazis, I feel my grandmother's pain and trauma. Also the anger about the ignorance and arrogance of such a judgment about my family, just because we are German. That's why I have a different perspective, I don't condemn everyone who has an American passport for the murder of Indians, or for the many wars and the suffering that the US empire has caused in the world. All of this was done by a damned state and its responsible perpetrators.
I really like how well prepared you are for this song and how you fill in the missing information you dont understand. You understood more of the song at your first time hearing than me, and I am german =) You really should listen to their song "Zeit", I am sure you will love it
Since you’re on the rammstein train I recommend you take a look at Mein Hertz Brennt - do the office music video first and if you like it check out the acoustic piano version afterwards. Do turn on subtitles of course. I feel like it has a lot of psychological depth. I tried to figure it out myself but I can’t seem to put my finger on it 😅
Thank you for trying to understand germans. For interested people: "Three arrows" made quite a good analysis of the video (He still misses some small things). It's very hard for a non native speaker to understand all the images an all the intricacies of the lyrics. A lot of germans feel about our nationality like Rammstein. Since the last 2000 years we've become country of great poets, scientists and statesmen who accomplished outstanding feats. But there is also 2000 years of war, zealotry, abuse, corruption and genocide. It's weird. Sometimes you feel like beeing part of a very dangerous beast and sometimes (like in November 1989) you feel full of love for all people in the world because you against all odds you united peacefully. It's weird. That's probably what beeing a german is and that's okay.
When this song dropped, I blasted it on repeat for weeks. I love how Rammstein uses their art to talk bout humanity past, present & future especially with symbolism they use. the scene with the dogs and end coffin speaks volumes. the way humans have been replacing each other for animals over time. the devaluing of children and people in general. The death of humanity
The black woman represents germany. A black woman in golden armor under red light, which are the colors of the flag of germany? Black, Red, Gold/yellow. You have to dive deeper to recognize the meaning of this video.
Thanks for the reaction, in particular that end bit. Its been a tough few months for me, was in a relationship for 10+ years and lost it. Owning my shortcomings, the inattentiveness, lies, its been hard to come to terms with. Been trying to be a better man, son, brother, partner but moving on is hard. idk, but thank you again. Dont stop
From KyleGouldOfficial: @RyeStewArt Hi Just letting you know you're not alone in this struggle we are here for you at heartsupport. I know it tough to put in the time of being in a relationship just for it to go nowhere. But there better things ahead and don't give up on on life even when it may be a hard push up the field of battle. Don't beat up on yourself if you need to discuss feelings more we are here.
From OmarM: @RyeStewArt I'm really sorry to hear that. It sounds like you're going through quite a bit and you're clearly reflecting deeply on what's happened. It takes so much courage to own up to our mistakes and want to grow from them, but this process is nothing short of a challenge. Moving on from a relationship that we've put so much into is never easy. Yet, you’re making an effort to be better, and that’s no small thing. Healing is a long process, take it one step and one day at a time, you are not alone friend.
I have heard that Germany takes responsibility of its past, and they use that to educate their children so it will not happen again. Go Germany!! I wish the USA would do the same. There is a lot that they do not teach in school about the history of America. We all should know the correct history regardless if how terrible it was; its important to know how we got here today. It's not all sunshine and rainbows!
I absolutely fell in love with this music video when it came out and it still hasn’t loosed any of it’s power. It’s not only a good song but also visually very appealing, aesthetic even. I studied history and then you automatically learn how complex the past (and present) is. Not black or white, bad or good and us versus them. A message of complexity and nuance. That it’s not one or another but can coexist. A message that nowadays in a polarised society/world seems more important than ever. 🧡 Great reaction! 🇳🇱
It would be interesting to get your take on the emotions of the song Sabrina by Einstürzende Neubauten. The words and video are less intense than this one, but still hit hard.
Had the pleasure of meeting Mr Lindemann. Great man. Love Rammstein great song texts and a concert everyone should at least go to see once in their lifetime. Total entertainment
It’s a song about young Germans wanting to proud of Germany TODAY BUT struggling to feel proud of Germany given its history(nazis, the holocaust, East Germany etc.)
This is a great reaction. The research / former knowledge and the mostly good translations and your empathic way of trying to understand the subject was great to watch. Also you were right in saying that it is not necessarily in the human nature to address the failings of yourself / your country in the past in this open way, but it is very much what Germans try to do to remember and never forget, where populism, racism and antisemitism will lead to. A lot of schools, next to very brutal and accurate history lessons also travel to concentration camps to learn more and see first hand about the atrocities committed. It is still a memory I will forever keep in my head, seeing the remains of auschwitz when I was 15
Every time you see a dog think of the common people - Germania giving birth to dogs, walking dogs, dogs in gas masks during a world war , walking the band like dogs etc etc. It's just one of the many symbolic references littered through the clip. Thers no doubt left what they think the East German govt did to the people either as it's a brief flash but it's very unpleasant. With the outro it's a piano version of "Sonne" in that clip Snow White is played by a Russian actress and she's is utterly corrupt and abusive to the dwarves played by the band. Again the theme of corrupt people in power is played out in that clip so they are thematically linked.
Germany - 12 years of Third Reich: "oooh, Germany's terrible past!". The USA - hundred (at least) years of slavery, a hundred years of Segregation, genocide of the Native people, not a decade without war (far away, of course): "the bestest country ever, land of the free!". 🤣
The US shure has a bunch of things to own up to in it's history. Slavery is finally being somewhat discussed it seems, but FI the genocides of the native americans are almost completely ignored. But to be fair, the American atrocities don't redeem Germany's history. The Holocaust still stands as one of the very darkest chapters in all of history. The sheer cold blooded cynicism of industrial genocide is mind boggling.
I just saw this video, and after seeing that you would be reacting to it under the title "Therapist Reacts to Rammstein - Deutschland", I remembered all the imagery and thought "Good luck, lady... you'll need it, as well as some therapy of your own afterwards."
A really good summary
Thank you! It brings great meaning to an incredible song!!!
Thanks for such oustanding summary, I’ve been to germany 3 times, I love it, especially Berlin because you can feel part of the history around, the first time I saw this video I felt goosebumps, it was something I never felt when listening to music in my life.
Thank you very much!
Gratefull for explanations and facts. After your comment watched documentary about 1953 in GDR. Greatings from Lithuania.
I've seen like 10+ reactions to this song. This right here is the first time the reactor actually takes the time to understand what is said and why. Thank you so much for that
Totally agree. Her interpretation is smart right from the beginning. She really catched the points.
@@pancakebeaches6368to be fair we have plenty of history like that here in the US. That part isn't lost on us
"DEUTSCHLAND" is not a Song anymore, it's a great piece of art, in lyrics, music and visuals, describing the feeling of being German. Rammstein did a great job describing the feelings of german people today. Something like that was not done before in the music industry, that's why it's such a great thing. It's like a proud apology.
Mit freundlichen Grüßen from Germanys little brother, Switzerland. Music can still be art, even today...
I love how the dominant colours are the red, gold & black of the German flag
Agreed for the most cases. There are a few scenes where Germania is dressed in red and white, with her black skin being the third color of the Deutsches Kaiserreich flag.
Schwarz Rot Gold
@@RustyDust101 why germania is blck ?
@@SossaČesko why wouldnt she? Germania is a personification of an identity. It does not matter what color her skin is. Also its a smart way to avoid idiotic Nazis to identify with this video/song.
@@Gobboh who is the nzi here ?
The outro is their song Sonne but a piano rendition. It's beautiful
I think Rammstein are the biggest Poets of Germany in 21. century. It is so sad, that you cant understand german language and that you cant understand the meaning behind the words.
@@fenriswolfkanal yeah I mean that goes with any language you don't understand. I'm sure the translation doesn't get the point across either
@@ModoTronic666 there is often a Double or Triple meaning of the words, you have no chance to understand as a not native speaker. Til the Singer is really a poet. look for yukon or Knebel from Til Lindemann.
@@fenriswolfkanal yeah I've been told the double meanings like du hast etc and it helps greatly but not like a native
Germany "über allen" not "über alles", means over everybody.
Till Lindemann is writing the best German lyrics over the past 30 years now. His play with words can switch a romantic song into a horror scene or making you feel sympathetic with a cruel character just to turn this around with a single line you will question yourself for the feelings you had a second ago.
und Deichkind.
Meehwhile Japan on ww2? Uwu? what is that? lol Italy dont count, they were not viable in either WW1 or 2. Useless.
@@anouk6644 Both of your countries are Nazi again though.
as someone, who speaks german, i can assure you, that you are right about the love and hate. 👍
Depends on your perspective
We in modern times often tend to demonize the past because it's not our mindset anymore.

Rammstein Zeit would also be great for this Chanel.
It would suit this channel extremely.
100%
I second this
Absolutely
Personally I think Tills song "Fish On" or the Rammstein song "Pussy" would be hilarious with her reactions 😂😂😂😂
didnt expect to see this one on this channel but i'm here for it
How could you not, there is so much that anyone/everyone hould be able to take from this. her little thought at end is just cracking the egg open, there is soo much more with this song/video... but YOU have to find it... what I see may or may not be simillar to what you aee.... the poochie reference is too long to even take a crack at...
"Zeit" (with subtitles) would be a perfect choice to react for this channel... videoclip is awesome and the lyrics have great meaning... greetings from Brazil..
great sonmg indeed.
The boys don’t pull any punches with their videos. You get it right between the eyes with a sledgehammer. No egg shells! Love it! Obsessed with them! 🤘🤘 Respect for not skipping the credits.
I LOVE ith to see, good friendly REacts with Peacefull Opinions, the currently hate everywhere her makes me " kaputt "
Get up man! Smile to your future life!
@@TugarunnerLx Thank you brother!
I'm so glad you liked it :) Thank you for being here!
9:50 also a very nice wordplay here is;
"Wer hoch steigt, der wird tief fallen. Deutschland, Deutschland über allen."
"The higher you climb, the deeper you'll fall."
They use this 'Deutschland über allen' line the nazis used, after to make it translate it more like;
"The higher you climb, the deeper you'll fall. Especially if you're Germany."
Referencing more to the fall of nazi Germany, using their own line.
Eher die Ampelpartei, die muß weg. AfD muß regieren.
@@chaosfreak3583Why do you think concerts have to be interactive?
As a german myself, I'm actually proud of this very critical recap of History. Most of it was nothing to be proud of but that's what I am proud of. Proud of not being proud.
I hope I will live long enough to moment when I can see people saying same things in Russia
There's indeed a lot of things going on:
Roman legionaires who survived the Battle of Teutoburg, when 3 legions were wiped out by Germanic tribes. This is considered as the birth of the German nation.
- Appearance of a beautiful woman: she is Germania, the embodiment of the German nation. Rammstein chose a black german actress to give a finger to the extreme right.
- Germania wakes up the dead Teutonic knights, a christian military order involved in the Crusades
- Reunification of east and west germany, they all hug each other and it turns to an orgy
- German immigrants in the 1920's, fighting illegal, deadly fights to make a living
- Crooks in prison, devaluated money flying everywhere: the Wall Street crash of 1929
- The clergy feasting like pigs on the body of Germania while the common people starved (Middle Ages)
- Far left terrorists of the Baader-Meinhof Group (Red Army Fraction) kidnapping Germania and killig people
- V2 rockets taking off, the first ever ballistic missiles invented by german scientist Wehrner Von Braun, who later became an US citizen and is the father of the Apollo lunar rockets, the Saturn 5.
- Prisoners of concentration camps during the holocaust, Germania is now wearing a nazi uniform. Later, the prisoners revolt and shoot the nazis.
- Germania gives birth to Leonberger puppies, these dogs are typical of Germany but went almost extinct: the Nation is being reborn as a democracy
- And much more stuff I didn't see or was unable to understand.
Maybee it has to do with the fact that the ex-swimmer Lindemann write the song texts.
lol
Ruby Commey was not chosen as a middle finger to anyone, to my knowledge Rammstein despise culture wars. She was chosen because the colors of the german flag are black, red and gold, a combination you see with and around her a lot in the video. Final picture in the video even shows her with the eagle (coat of arms animal)
Rammstein ICH WILL would be a nice one for you to analyze, i loved that you did this one, thank you so much!!!
Media! My favorite RS video 👍
My absolute favorite music/video review channel hands down. I always come away learning something about myself in one way or another. Thank you.
Definitely one of the greatest music videos ever made
Truly a masterpiece of art: Music Text Pictures
"Zeit" is my favorite, hits me to the core every time.
:) Credits music... The reason why you heard song before... you heard song Sonne or because it was also played slowly throughout Deutschland. you could do hours worth of breaking down this song... took me a couple of times before I figured out the red lazer beams
One of the best reaction breakdowns I have seen for this video. What a beautiful mind you have.
Epic story!
Next: Zeit!
Prepare yourself.
You are so intuitive! I've seen many reactions to this song, and I can't think of many who have caught on to the themes and imagery surrounding Germania so quickly.
One thing Germany still has to learn: how to forgive oneself and acknowledge that trauma is always experienced on both ends.
Wir Deutschen Bürger haben damit Abgeschlossen.
Die Drecks Politiker wollen das nicht.
Es waren unsere Vorfahren die sich verleiten ließen, nicht wir.
However, the anthem now begins with "Unity, and law, and freedom, for the german motherland..."
That idea of being united instead of hemorrhaging our potential in silly wars among ourselfes has by now scaled up to the european theatre and some people are talking the "United States of Europe" as the next big thing.
Fatherland not motherland
Thank you for bringing this video to my attention today. Its amazing.
Next song: Zeit
Unbedingt! Es ist ein Meisterwerk!
If you ever see one concert in your LIFE…see Rammstein. The most mindblowing show I’ve ever seen…
One of Rammsteins best songs, and videos. I was suprised to see this as one of your reaction videos.
I learned more about Germany in that video than the school.
Rammstein showed us a master piece.
The line in this song "So jung und doch so alt" (So young and yet so old) means:
Germany as a unified state is very young.
Finally:
The scenes I'm now talking about are pretty dark and low light. The WWII submarine in the submarine bunker during the astronauts are walking by with the glass coffin.
I think, the choice of the black woman as main actress was made, because:
a) it makes any accusations of racism and fascism against Rammstein useless
b) she represents one colour of the German flag and she is wearing the rest of the colours of our German flag as makeup and jewellery and clothes on her body: Black, Red and Gold
c) it provokes many people EVEN MORE 😄
Greetings
Mega
PS: UA-cam didn't allow me to integrate this information into the bigger text (above) for unknown reasons, therefore I'm posting it here:
The troops, who smashed the Jewish shops during the Kristallnacht (not shown in the video) were SA (Sturmabteilung) in brown uniform and not the later SS (Schutzstaffel) in the black uniform.
PPS:
The two beer drinking soldiers to the left side of the table, where Germania is lying on and where the priests are eating Sauerkraut & Sausages from her body, are not French soldiers and they aren't representing the French revolution.
Really good explanation u got it all right. greetings from Frankfurt.
One of the most powerful videos I have ever watched. Especially if you feel the text of the song.
I have watch many reactions to this song, and I must say, you are the 1st to ever get that the lady IS Germany. Kudos 😊.
and skipped Sheldon's fun with flags. Black, Red, Gold 😁
Can't believe how many people miss that part! I suppose they all are expecting Germany to be represented by a white, blonde, blue-eyed woman. I know I was initially startled by Ruby Commey playing Germania, but it works perfectly for Rammstein. Only they would be brave enough to go that route.
The song in the epilogue with the piano is Sonne.
Great analysis :) I love this song, and you beautifully articulate what I've felt about it...
I love the line "Wer hoch steigt, der wird tief fallen; Deutschland, Deutschland über allen"
(The higher you climb, the further you fall; Germany, Germany above everyone)
Rammstein is Rammstein and they will never fall.
Diese Kommentarsektion ist jetzt Eigentum der Bundesrepublik Deutschland.
Je te suis
Thank you so much for this - I cried throughout as have often wondered which side of the German equation I fall on, only to see your warmth, humanity, and appreciation for ambiguity remind me where I stand when also confronting an extremely difficult and at times arguably demagogic past. To cry like that was priceless for me - Thank You.
Rammstein is a treasure for a psychiatrist. Especially their videos
How come? The last 2 albums have been movie quality.
Imagen the US had something similar about their shady past.
Ruby Commey did an outstanding job in portraing Germany / Germania and I will forever be proud to have her personify my country / homeland. 💯
Rammstein are great! I just saw them live , their show is so exciting and entertaining.
The lyrics of Till Lindemann go very deeply about many themes and emotions.
You should do the OV of Zeit and Mein Herz brennt.
Greetings from Germany
One of the best analysis of this song I’ve encountered thus far! Great job 👏. Kudos from Germany ✌️
I´m german - you did a good job by analysing this song - you came to the point - well done ! ❤
Enjoyed your reaction. I'd like to recommend another Rammstein video: "Angst." That would be right up your alley. Love to know what you make of it.
"Angst" would be perfect here!
This is the most beautiful music clip I've ever seen... That's why rammstein are in the history of the music and cultural heritage of the whole world already. This is masterpiece.
Zeit!!! Please don't censor it! It's pure art!
It's one of my favorite tunes by Rammstein. It's hard for people to understand what it stands for but you did a great work reacting to it! Thanks ♥
Zeit is a must! Then Adieu. Epic stuff!
Check out "Angst"(fear) from Rammstein... would like to hear your analysis
A lot of respect to you for all the work you dit on this one. You nailt the song to the full extend of it. Respect for that.
Angst HAS TO BE the next song. The video is beyond awesome
In my opinion this song and the official video is truly a masterpiece. In general Rammstein is a whole masterpiece and in my opinion they are creating art. I was at three Rammstein concerts, and every concert was a masterpiece by itself😍.
Greetings from Germany😊❤️
My recommendation for better understanding the video and its symbolism: The video "Deutschland by Rammstein: An Analysis" by Three Arrows. 😉
First time viewer, your facial expressions, your analysis show so much. You get this, very impressive.
Next good subjects are: Mein herz brenns (piano version), Angst , Adieu
We germans have a lot of history, the german tribes, the roman invasion, the dark middelages, the crusades, Thirty Years' War,
imperial french suzereignity, WW1, WW2, the cold war cutting thrue germany and the RAF Terror.
Dicken titten has a great meaning behind it, and its a banger song!
She did that one! :)
@@alexandryan100 Cool, need to find it!
I tried to figure it out myself but I can’t seem to put my finger on it 😅
100%
A big thank you for your deep dive into this work
Thank you for trying to understand germans.
Yes, me too, was blown away how good it was when it was released in 2019
The black woman represents germany.
Dont stop
From KyleGouldOfficial: @RyeStewArt Hi
Just letting you know you're not alone in this struggle we are here for you at heartsupport.
Thank you. Oh my god, i realy thank you
can you react to sabaton its a band that writes songs based on historical events that happened in the past im sure you will love it
Had the pleasure of meeting Mr Lindemann.
It is still a memory I will forever keep in my head, seeing the remains of auschwitz when I was 15
Hello from Germany. The literal translation was great. Perfect
You are an extraordinary precious Soul, thanks, god Bless...
What a great goood reaction RESPECT
Great reaction and analysis. Warm greetings from Deutschland.
The video is mainly in black, red and gold. The german flag
I like that she is analyzing and rocking out at the same time! It takes talent.
I'm German myself and I love how you analyze the song and explain it step by step.
A great video. Thank you.
😊
I like it how she still headbands with a discerning look on her face
The sheer cold blooded cynicism of industrial genocide is mind boggling.
...And the Home of the Braves...Bye my friends.
@@martinhelgren tbf all tho I agree with this. It is hard to find a year the US did not have war in and slavery should definitely be adressed more.
Although nobody outside USA agrees on them being the best country...
But they are indeed indoctrinated to believe they are...
I just saw this video, and after seeing that you would be reacting to it under the title "Therapist Reacts to Rammstein - Deutschland", I remembered all the imagery and thought "Good luck, lady... you'll need it, as well as some therapy of your own afterwards."
Knox hill. For an American he did a very good breakdown of this song. He picked up a lot of details.
I see the concert and they are amazing 😂❤
Best Video about our history. All in one video only. I love the song.
So many many details inside.
