This video got my girl and I out of a jam. This 2017 Chevy Cruze shut down in the middle of an intersection while waiting at a light. Officers pushed us out of the way and into a vacant parking lot while we waited for Triple A. I performed the steps as indicated here in this video and the car is running again. I suspect the problem is in the programming of its drive functions as we’ve replace the starter twice before suspecting it was that. Now the car is shifting normally (we are driving it as I type this) and not shutting off at any stop, whether you’re at a complete stop or creeping up to it (stop/go/stop/go). The RPM’s are where they need to be, and there’s no delayed shifting between gears, so there’s no over-revving either. The underlying issue remains of course but now at least the car is drivable. Thanks for posting this video, it saved us a BUNCH of aggravation.
The main problem I have with it,is that when you get to the stop sign at the end of a freeway off ramp, with the turbo charger spinning at 40 or 50 thousand RPMs and the engine shuts off, it cuts off the flow of oil to the turbo. My turbo needs to be replaced at only 120,000 miles, and I started using L6 almost 4 years ago. Auto stop should NEVER be installed on a turbo charged engine.
I have a 2017 Cruze hatchback with the 1.4T engine and the 6-speed automatic. It also has the auto-stop/start feature. I love the Cruze...but I hate that there's no on/off button. And then Chevy goes and puts an on/off button in the 2019 Cruze models. Chevy should offer up a free retrofit to all 2016-2018 Cruze owners to have that on/off switch installed as an apology for not making it standard from the very start.
I found that just pumping the brake pedal gently once or twice as you come to a stop will defeat the auto stop/start. I takes a bit of training, but becomes second nature after a while.
If I remember, I always shift my car into neutral as I come to a stop then shift it back into gear. This seems to work rather well for me. But I’ll try this method as well next time I’m in the car. Came looking for the radio fix issue.
My Auto Stop literally just turned my engine completely off and wouldn’t turn back on….In the middle of the busiest street in town. Luckily a fire truck was going by at that time and it gave me enough time to react and restart it myself. I bought it new in 2017 and this is the first time it’s failed to restart the engine. Time to start turning it off. Thanks for the video.
I considered the Malibu or the Cruze for a while now. Not anymore, especially after driving a rental Malibu for a day and the damn thing shut off my AC in 90F heat, because the car decided to turn off the engine, all this in a stop&go traffic for an hour. Something tells me, the reason they didn't offer the disable feature, because they want to cash in in the service dept in a few years, when all these cars will have worn starters!
I think it may also factor into the mpg rating that they are legally able to tout because of the start/stop feature. the starters on these vehicles are claimed to have special, robust starters that are able to handle the additional workload. we shall see..
@@ultrakool That's a crock of crap. Other companies accomplish this by having the system default to ON when you start the car. So you have to shut it off each time you start the car. As long as the system defaults to ON, they get the MPG credit. GM simply wanted to save a few cents by not adding the button to shut it off. And probably like FS said, it doesn't hurt to bring some business to the shop. But that's ok because they aren't getting business from me if the car lacks the means to shut it off. And unlike other people, I DO check if the car has this feature and if I can shut it off. And if I can't, I walk out of the dealer.
In my opinion, something tells me that it is a regular starter not designed for this (abuse). They have this feature to make them look good for government fuel regulations.
@@crlaw75 I wouldn't be surprised. They better hope these don't all fail at once. Otherwise, if they do, wait till all the lawsuits start flying. Just like the ignition key ordeal. When everyone starts having this issue of failing starter motors, sue-happy Americans will get their moneys worth.
@@juanzingarello4005 "save a few cents"??? Imagine how many cars with this feature they put out, PLUS add in the sensors and wire looms they have to add to accommodate this feature... I'm not saying they shouldn't do it, but they are saving MORE than a "few cents".
I got this car as a rental when I went to Chicago and was unaware of the start/stop system. For the life of me, I don't understand why a timer is not configured into determining if the engine really needs to be turned off. It makes sense if you're stopped for several minutes. But not being able to turn off the feature is perhaps one of the most baffling decisions a manufacture could make.
@@tightylike, the engine being completely off might be a misnomer for what was happening. But it was a strange experience. Cars that do that are trying to be economical. I get it. But it feels like it’s more work than it’s worth, and it was obvious in the rental I had. Maybe I’m missing something, but it just didn’t feel right. If censors can detect small things like air pressure changed and whatnot, I don’t think what I’m asking for is unreasonable.
*_My girlfriend had a 2017 Chevy Cruise LT. This 2024 I'm going to start modifying it for her & ever since I found out about rhe auto off feature ive always hated it… Not only is it a terrible design for the moyor overall but I never really found a way to turn it off until recently. I did a free modification to her airbox yhat makes her turbo blow off louder, and during my test drive with her car I also founf out that leaving the car in 6th gear in manal mode is the nest gear to be in. It will say L6 but it's basically regular driving mode. This will permanently turn off the auto stop feature._*
I drive a 2017 Chevy Cruz for work. After I come to a complete stop, I quickly release and reapply the brakes and the car doesn't go into auto-stop. I think it fools the computer into thinking you're just in traffic. You have to do it at every light, but I find it easier... it just becomes reflex after a while..
@@leonardoespino130 change gear to L and shift the gear to 6 or 9 depending on what speed your Cruze is at. I have a 2016 Cruze LT RS and I shifted it to 6 and it turns off auto stop/start
Just pulled my 2017 Cruze off the lot do u have to push the Plus or Minus button on the highway depending on your speed. Or can you keep the gear at one number the whole trip
So, what does using this method do to the engine over the long run that's different than staying in drive with the on/off feature. I tried it and it drove like a "normal" car but which method is worse on the 2017 cruze transmission or engine? I would think they have worked out excessive wear and tear by this point from constantly kicking back on, but seems like still odd. Also, do you have to alter how you drive or top speeds, as in can you use this method for highway speeds and city without affecting mechanical parts over long term?
Start Stop technology is nothing but something else to go wrong in your vehicle. My daughter has been having trouble with her Cruz for the same reason. And it isn't always easy for the mechanics to replicate the stalling problem she has because the problem is sporadic.
Thanks for tip on this, it works on my 2018 GMC Terrain. I’m ok with Auto Start/Stop everywhere except when I’m in metering lights, stop and go traffic and parking in garage, this tip helps in those situations.
When you come to a stop you quickly release the brake and step on the brake pedal again and the car will not stop. Kind of like a Quick bump on the brake pedal and you come to a stop. The engine will never turn off on you if you do this.
I have a 2017 Chevy Cruze and I used this once before when my car got messed up and I was afraid if it auto stopped on the road I wouldn’t of started again! But this trick deff works
The only time that auto-stop feature annoys me is when I'm parking. It seems dumb to have it switch off, only to come right back on when I shift it into park. Having a bit more of a delay between reaching a full stop and activation of the auto-stop would fix that.
The auto stop start doesn’t bother as much as the shifter itself. The labels P R N D L are not inline with the shifter, so at 0:26, it looks like the car is in neutral, but it’s parked. I think Sam’s next vehicle purchase should be a used car because auto stop start is almost everywhere, besides some Japanese vehicles.
yes, but there is a way to turn it off and turning it off would be wise. I can't imagine that these starters don't have to be serviced after numerous and repetitive stopping and going. I'm sure that part would last longer if it wasn't automatically engaged every time someone comes to a complete stop
Nice trick, thanks for sharing. If you decide to get an after market tune, you can turn that off (forever though). Perhaps you can even contact those people (BNR or Trifecta) and get a flash that doesn't change your program but for the start/stop.
I have found in my Cruz that when you are coming to a stop if you let up on the brake pedal at the last second just before the car come to a complete stop so you are only pushing the brake pedal in about a couple of inchs the engine will not shut off.
The 2019 models surprisingly has a button to turn this off. I would have gotten one myself but they didn’t have any diesel models to choose from. The dealership had 3 2018 models though but I’m happy with it none the less.
I’m so glad I found this video. I hate the auto-start-stop function! I can’t stand it while I’m driving. I can feel my car’s engine turning off & on & it’s somewhat laggy when driving. Now my only question is, is it completely safe to drive in “L” all the time? This won’t damage my car over time? I hope you or someone can get back to me on this. Thanks in advance!
It will not damage your car, it's the exact same as driving in D. Except this stupid "technology" is disabled. I feel like some engineer who knew people would hate it threw this in as a bone for people. 😂
@@WillieMeetsWorld Can you provide any evidence that it won't. Just want to make sure don't make a stupid mistake listening to someone in the comments
@@Pudi1224Why would it? It shifts normally etc in fact the auto stop start system will destroy your car sooner and disabling it will make it last longer lol
Just got an 2018 Malibu with the auto start/stop feature. I simply put the car in neutral whenever I stop at a light. hen the light changes, back into drive and off I go. Do this all the time and my a/c stays on in the oppressive SoFlo heat. Takes a little time to get used to it but soon it becomes second nature
No, do not do this. It messes with your transmission. What I have been doing in mine is when I come to a stop, I simply shift to "L" and then when I accelerate, I shift back to drive. Kind of annoying, but when you get used to it, then it's second nature
I have a Chevy Malibu and it has the same thing. If you don't want to try that why, when stopping if you feather the brake right before you stop you can get the car to not turn off. Just when you are about to stop lift up on the break and push the pedal back and forth twice and the then stop. It's also annoying but it can really help.
By far most idiotic thing Chevy ever did, to save 1/10 cent in gas, at a cost of 20 for the starter? For crappin out loud, and the salesmen are flat out liars, even said the Vette would soon have it. Get real GM ! And the A/C DOES shut off ! Texas Blues-Man
I drove a gas cruze home from the dealership today and I have not noticed that the engine is auto stopping at all. It"s a 2018 and I see the indicator on the tach but so far have not been bothered by it.
I discovered (I think) another way; quite by accident. I’ve tried the shifter setup method and the hood latch method and I prefer the disconnect of the hood latch. I tried this on my 2018 Equinox and it worked, however, the Check Engine light did come on (after a while) and it bothered me. I re-connected the hood latch wiring but the Check Engine light remained ON. I bought a “jumper” wire on Amazon for $14.92 and planned to install it. But first, I wanted to make the Check Engine light go out. I hooked-up my OBDII code reader (hoping to clear the codes) but it must be outdated for this car bc it didn’t work right. I then tried the old method for getting the ECM to reset itself to factory specs by disconnecting the NEG battery terminal for 10-minutes. At the same time, I reconnected the original hood wiring (without the jumper) hooked the NEG terminal up and started the car. The Check Engine light was OUT (so THAT worked) I was hoping to get it back to normal (shutting off at stops) THEN install the jumper cable to eliminate that function and still prevent the Check Engine light from coming on. I set about test driving the car in a manner I’ve read for allowing the ECM to reset itself (but here’s what I did wrong) When I put the car in gear, I dropped it into L (low) out of force-of-habit and clicked the + button 5 times to put the car in LOW 6. I pulled out and immediately realized I had wanted to start out in D (drive) so, before it shifted, I pushed the gear stick up to D. Guess what? The car doesn’t shut off at stops AND the hood wire is connected AND there’s no jumper in the line. Did the ECM memorize the shift-lever method when it reset itself? I decided to run the car for a while to see if it begins to shut off again. So, my “method” is this: Disconnect the NEG terminal for ten minutes. Put the car in L6 (or 9) and pull away. Before it shifts in L2, push the gear shifter into D.
Yea. Figured that out day one. I don't mind the start stop to be honest. It's great for drive thru windows. I'd you want to elimate it for good, get the car tuned by a GM tuner (I use tricefta performance). They can disable the start stop and do a number of other things, from increasing power and torque to fuel economy improvements and transmission shift speed.
I really didn’t mind this since this car was under warranty except after owning a preowned 2016 Cruze for a month and a half, the engine literally overheated yesterday at 44k miles. There was never any check engine light and the car stalled. We had to get a tow truck to take the car to the dealer then take us home. I didn’t even put 1k of those miles on there but the warranty is covering it so I guess it’s good that we have disposable engines? It’s a great highway cruiser I’m assuming from the owner before me but as for a city car that I didn’t even daily it didn’t even last 1k miles or 2 months for me.
The dealer told us that since he engine is made of aluminum, too much inside it was damaged from overheating so simply replacing the entire thing was easier and more economic to do.
OK. THANKS FOR THE TIP. I USE THE A/C TRICK ONCE OR TWICE, BUT DIDN'T WORK EVERYTIME. I USUALLY DISENGAGE THE TRANSMISION AND AVOID THE ENGINE STOP. I'LL TRY WHAT YOU SUGGEST NEXT TIME. THANKS !.
I have a 2018 Chevy Cruz just got it a month ago I did what was said in your video but my number only one up to number six. I left it at number six so I’ll see what happens.🤷🏽♀️
Will it remember being at number 9 after the first time you set it in manual mode, or do you have to repress the buttons every time from 1 to 9? I test drove the cruze and loved everything except for two things. I hated the stop start with a passion. That is the primary season I did not buy one. My second issue was actually the seats. I noticed your lower back holds a crap ton of heat in the fabric after like 20 minutes of driving. My lower back got so hot that I thought the heated seats were turned on. I pulled over to check and the model I test drove didn't come with heated seats. I tried both the cloth and leather seats. The issue applies to both in my case. That was the 2018 models.
How can I remove the rev limiter? Do I need to? Is there a reason my 2017 Cruze seems to be it have to the passing gear on on the freeway but just to progressively goes faster? I had a 2018 and it hit the turbo like a roller coaster. My 2017 Premier is a much better car but I was wondering if it is expected to feel different due to the year and the size of the 2017 ,both are hatchbacks. In my 2017 it also has 18 inch wheels. Thank you.
And thankfully, for 2019, Chevy provides an off-switch for the stop-start. Unfortunately they're also deleting leather as an option, replacing it with "leatherette" which I'd hope is something like the breathable material they make road bike shoes out of but I fear will just be vinyl.
When I try to do this, I can only shift it up once and after I get a “shift denied” notification. I drive a 2014 Malibu, am I doing it wrong, or is there any way other to turn it off?
I tried this today,it works!Yippee!I hate the fuckin' auto stop! The car seems to work just fine,I thought it might really wind out thru the gears, but no. You ought to be able to turn this auto stop off, same as if you wish your panel to read speed, fuel consumption, etc in Metric or English units.
I dont wanna enter a cheat code every time I drive my car lol. I found a plug Disabler for the auto-stop. Works like a charm. Plus, my Remote-Start still works too. Got the Big Plug for my 2017 Chevy Cruze Premier HB.
Thanks for the vid. Of course I see it as I'm pulling up at home but will be doing this from now on! Also, when I saw your side profile, I thought you were Jon Cryer (two and a half men) lol
The easiest thing I do is turn the ac system to 60 degrees which disables it because it isn't going to get to that temperature and if I haven't found a disable in the programming by winter I will set the temp to like 80 and in either season I will close the vents if it get to hot or cold...
Thank you so much because I don't mind it when it's nice outside and I've got the windows down and my dogs have their their faces out the window but it's 95 degrees right now and I'm getting tired of every time I stop at a stoplight my car turns off and then I have to put my foot back on the gas to turn it back on and then the air conditioner isn't quite the same until we actually start moving again so thank you for a work around it is bullshit that they didn't give us some sort of way to disarm it instantly
EDDIE LEAL I've got a 2016 Cruze and yeah the air comes back on but it doesn't blow as hard until I actually start moving again so it is a difference and today it's 103° here and trust me I feel it
Yes, that is correct. We live in Tampa Fl. Does not get as hot as where you are at.. It gets around 91/92 degrees. It takes a bit for the interior to cool up initially when the heat is this bad. Normally as I come to a stop I will purposely release the break briefly to pop the engine on again. If you don't, at least in my car, it will go off and restart after roughly 3 minutes or so.
@@sweetboo1022 I'm sorry to hear that you're having to suffer through that crazy heat over there brother. I live in Tampa and it can get pretty hot here too but not to that extreme that I recall. We have been living here going on 7 years. That type of daytime temperature will work an a/c system hard. I lived in El Paso Tx. Had been assigned to Ft Bliss and spent roughly 6 years there. It was incredibly hot there in the summer. I had a 95 Ford F150 back then with bad a/c system. Would have cost me an arm an a leg to get it all repaired. I put off fixing it until I finally just grew accustomed to that dry heat after a while. lol!
I've owned 4 Premiere Cruze's (I still have 2). I personally love the car. It rides well, super spacious, great gas milage, heated seats front and back, Bluetooth, etc. So, there is a very simple way to turn off the auto stop/start. On my Premiere the A/C button (on the right side of the dash) has a small light built into it. When you press the A/C button the little light turns: green (eco mode), yellow (drive mode) or off (No a/c compressor). If you press the face of the switch until it turns yellow that disables the auto stop/start. That's it! If you keep pressing the button it turns Green or goes off, that will engage the auto stop/start. Of course, you need to have the fan on and the a/c on (adjust the temperature) but the yellow light keeps the a/c running and therefore keeps the engine running too. I hope this helps
@@lrn_news9171 I just love the cars. I think GM did an exceptional job of designing the 2nd Generation Cruze. Mechanically they're super solid, styling is modern, trunk space is huge, etc. Personally I would only buy the Premier model because I like all the bells and whistles.
look...this is the wave of the future. deal with it..as in, turn it off with the supplied button or with this computer work around. or thirdly, go back to horse and buggies. lol
Found this godsend of a video after I furiously tried to find a fix because this dumbass feature on my 2016, caused me to have an accident today and it’s nearly gotten me killed on over 100 occasions because I drive in a big ass busy city. I hope this works for me because I’m tired of having to roll the dice of when it decides to kill the engine even if I don’t come to a complete stop and I accelerate when pulling out it will just stall out and basically leave me going 5mph and almost get fucking clapped. This happens like once a week and it’s terrifying, I love the way it drives but holy fuck I hate this shit
I didn't have a problem with this feature at first. It is annoying when I want the heater or AC to stay on and I have to lift my foot off the brake to turn the engine back on but that was not the biggest deal. And then it started effing up about 18 months in - turning off the entire stereo system at the same time which disconnects Bluetooth, regardless if I'm in the middle of a call or media. Battery change did not fix it. So annoying as I drive 30K city miles a year and it's a lot of stopping and going.
You think this is safer than putting it on neutral as you come to a stop? Also when i was on the market, i saw a cruze that had the option to turn off switch.
mine is a 2014 only has the Manual option for gears... and will not go up in gear unless I hit the + button.. any idea how to bypass this? its not cranking once it goes in start top mode
I have a 2018 gas engine model. If stop start engages, just partially lift your foot off the brake and it will restart. After 3-4 days I figured out just staying light on the brake pedal keeps the system from engaging. I’ve even caused it to engage after stopping by pushing harder on the brake. It’s really no big deal at all.
Nearly backed into a car in traffic because the auto stop feature turned my car off on an upward turn into an intersection red light, pressed on the gas and the car still didn't come back on, had to slam on the breaks put it in neutral turn the key off and back on and start it quick with people honking behind me. Worst feature ever added.
I have two questions for you, when you drive it then do you have to put it in the low drive mode or regular d on your shifter? and can you turn it back on if you want to and how do you do that? I actually have a third question is it bad for the car to not use all those start because this is the second car I've had and I like the auto start as far as what I think it's supposed to be doing and I've never had any mechanical issues do you know if any cars have had mechanical issues after disengaging the auto start? thank you I have a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze premier hatchback.
The auto stop start actually damages the car faster as you make the starter work far more often than you normally would, it causes wear and tear faster on your car in several ways lol disabling it is a good idea to make it last longer
Q: after following the steps do you have to leave the car in L while you’re driving it? And also once you turn the car off and then turn it back on to go somewhere else do you have to repeat the steps every time?
having start / stop on a modern turbo motor is the stupidest thing i ever heard. i mean ( scenario) you cruising down the freeway, all of a sudden traffic comes to a halt because of an accident, you bring the car to a stop, and the engine shuts off --- the turbo is still spinning, its bearings getting no oil.
YES whoever decided to put a on off system on a TURBO 4cyl is absolutely retarded. its a great way to break a car just by regularly driving. because you don't have control over when the engine is shut off it hurts the shit, like in my 2011 gti i always waited like 40sec to 1 minute before i even turned off the engine after ive parked to ensure the turbo wasn't being hurt.
Start/stop is disabled in scenarios like these. Give these engineers more credit. FYI it still gets a small amount of coolant and oil when it is operational (the auto stop feature).
I have tried this procedure several times in my Chevy Cruze 2017 which has no « defeat » button to turn the start-stop off. It does not work every time and also, if you have to go into reverse for any reason, it cancels the stop-start when using L with either 6 or 9 speeds. The only way is to have or purchase a Chevy model with the « defeat button » which truly gives the options of maintaining the stop-start feature in an OFF position. This might be just the last time that I purchase a Chevy as I was not told when I purchased that the automobile had this feature. On top of it, any way used to bypass only works randomly which frightens me on the highway, for if the car bugs out, it can possibly turn the car off while driving. Also, if you are at a stop light and the stop-start turns off, your battery goes dead right there, then how do you start the car up again ?? Whereas cars without that feature with a faulty battery will not stop until you stop by ignition.
I have a 2018 Chevy Cruze LT and I did this...I put the gear in L6 but it doesn't stay like that permanently. Every time I turn the car off and start it again, it goes back to the stop/start mode.
do you have to do this and go thru the motions after every time you start the car? or does it memorize it for the subsequent times you start it and throw it into (L)ow?
I don't have a problem with a company putting this feature in. At this point everyone is doing it. Even Toyota. But I will be shutting it off via the OFF button every time I drive the car. That being said, I DO however have a problem with companies that force me to use the feature by not providing said button which so far, seems to be only GM. When that happens, I walk out of the dealer. If I see "Auto-Stop" written in that tachometer, it DAMN WELL BETTER have an Off button included in that car. Otherwise I will not think twice in looking elsewhere for a car with that button or without that stupid feature altogether. And I WILL be checking for this feature from now on.
I have a 2015 impala when I put the stop and it goes to auto stop when I put the gas button to go the car starts cranking and won't turn back on. What can be the problem?
You don't have to do any of this. Just knock the shifter down from drive to L (manual mode) before coming to a stop then shift up one back to drive before taking off. Been doing it for 2 years because if it keeps shutting off and turning back on it kills the turbocharger. Much easier and definitely do NOT use neutral! It WILL destroy the clutches in the transmission.
@@lrn_news9171 No problem. Somebody makes a deletion module that eliminates it entirely for like $45 on "supercruzes" website. I can't post the link because my comment will get taken down immediately. Takes like three minutes to install but I'm too cheap to buy it lol
I have a problem with my 17 Cruze 1.4l it's the gas model still turbocharged, I drive it around in L6 like this and sometimes it's fine but other times it lags a lot leaving a stop as if its stuck in a higher gear and didnt downshift all the way to 1... and sometimes when it auto stops in Drive it also lags leaving a stop. Anyone else have these issues??
Is there any problem in using the L for eliminating the auto start stop while driving long distances or even 20 miles. Is it best to only use the L while driving short distances?
I'm about ready to trade this damn Malibu in because of this feature. I've only had it for a few months and it hasn't bothered me up until this evening
Works , slightly annoying to put in L6 every time but far less than the auto stop which is absolutely retarded , should fire the person that thought of it
I got one for ya. Or anyone who can help me. I took my 2016 Chevy Cruz 6speed automatic to get my oil changed on Sept 23rd my auto start/stop hasn't worked since. I actually want mine to work because it saves on fuel. Any suggestions on why it just quit working?

Officers pushed us out of the way and into a vacant parking lot while we waited for Triple A. I performed the steps as indicated here in this video and the car is running again.
I suspect the problem is in the programming of its drive functions as we’ve replace the starter twice before suspecting it was that.

The underlying issue remains of course but now at least the car is drivable.
Thanks for posting this video, it saved us a BUNCH of aggravation.
This just happened to me, so scary
Any fix for this? Same keeps happening to me
Your auxiliary battery needs to be replaced. It works the stop start feature.
Auto stop should NEVER be installed on a turbo charged engine.

thanks for the work around video! We have a rental car with this system in it. It only goes up to 6, but it still works.
I agree. It is so annoying. It turns off every time I come to a stop. There should be like a 15 sec timer.
How would the timer know if the car was going to be stopped for several minutes?
@@tightylike, the engine being completely off might be a misnomer for what was happening. But it was a strange experience. Cars that do that are trying to be economical. I get it. But it feels like it’s more work than it’s worth, and it was obvious in the rental I had. Maybe I’m missing something, but it just didn’t feel right. If censors can detect small things like air pressure changed and whatnot, I don’t think what I’m asking for is unreasonable.
So do you have to do this every time you start your car and do you have to keep it in L mode each time?
I hate this auto on/off feature too! I discovered just a couple weeks before running into your video, that when I put it in L it doesn’t do it!
Why does it turn off the engine when you pull in a driveway to park then crank up again when put the gear in PARK?
Till Man to remind you the car is still functional and needs to be turned off
Becuase it instantly goes into that auto crap. The moment the car completely stops, it will. Even when you want to simply just back up it does it.
Because GM just makes crappy cars.

I did a free modification to her airbox yhat makes her turbo blow off louder, and during my test drive with her car I also founf out that leaving the car in 6th gear in manal mode is the nest gear to be in.

Now, that IS a good one Carlos, thanx man...
What I do is just before when I come to a complete stop i shift to neutral. When im at a complete stop ,i shift to drive. The engine doesnt auto stop.
Useful information for an irritating feature. Thanks.
I hate parallel parking. It shuts off before I put it in reverse. I've got to turn the system off before I get home.
I've said the EXACT same thing numerous times. We should all ban together and contact them about this.
When I get to a light I put it in N before I stop
My shift only goes to 6 would that be the same as 9?
Nice trick, thanks for sharing. If you decide to get an after market tune, you can turn that off (forever though). Perhaps you can even contact those people (BNR or Trifecta) and get a flash that doesn't change your program but for the start/stop.
I’ve been in one, and it’s pretty crude and bad also you hear it and it shakes the car

My Mailbu 2016 has M1 and M2 only. Do you know which one I would use to disable the start stop feature??
2nd way to turn off the auto stop: Drive in weather below 40F.
I also discovered in my cruze is just putting it in neutral before stopping cancels it out also. Its what i do and it never turns off
The biggest question is, does driving in L gear regularly hurt the transmission over time?
wont hurt it at all
Yes Sir! I did my homework and after further research, you are absolutely correct. Thanks!
I was scary to run in L shift but no transmission run smooth and shift all gear perfect.
Texas Blues-Man
Do you know why my car which is a 2017 Chevy Cruze premier at sometime today started itself. Is there a way to see how? Or at what time?
I drove a gas cruze home from the dealership today and I have not noticed that the engine is auto stopping at all. It"s a 2018 and I see the indicator on the tach but so far have not been bothered by it.
90 percent works with me when I easy to stop instead of a hard brake.
THANKS !.
Hi dear is that demonstration a one time thing or is it every time you go to drive you have to do it
I have a 2018 Chevy Cruz just got it a month ago I did what was said in your video but my number only one up to number six.
I bought the 2018 diesel LT and I admit these two problems are indeed real but not enough to deter me from buying the thing. You must be really picky.

And thankfully, for 2019, Chevy provides an off-switch for the stop-start. Unfortunately they're also deleting leather as an option, replacing it with "leatherette" which I'd hope is something like the breathable material they make road bike shoes out of but I fear will just be vinyl.
Chevy interiors are getting cheaper. Even the RS model has cloth seats now. Looks so bad.

Thanks for the tip. Do you turn your AC on when approaching situations where the car will come to a stop? For example in the winter/colder months?

This will work on 2018 lt too?
I’m glad my 2019 model has a turn off switch, or I wouldn’t have bought it period!
your 2019 WHAT has an off switch??
You think this is safer than putting it on neutral as you come to a stop? Also when i was on the market, i saw a cruze that had the option to turn off switch.
Switches started showing up around 2019
mine is a 2014 only has the Manual option for gears... and will not go up in gear unless I hit the + button.. any idea how to bypass this? its not cranking once it goes in start top mode

The auto stop start actually damages the car faster as you make the starter work far more often than you normally
would, it causes wear and tear faster on your car in several ways lol
disabling it is a good idea to make it last longer
Q: after following the steps do you have to leave the car in L while you’re driving it? And also once you turn the car off and then turn it back on to go somewhere else do you have to repeat the steps every time?
Yes and yes
But does driving in L mode every time its used good for the transmission
Is there a mechanical difference between drive and L-9? or do they operate the same
How do you manually shift the 2017 Cruze premiere?
having start / stop on a modern turbo motor is the stupidest thing i ever heard. i mean ( scenario) you cruising down the freeway, all of a sudden traffic comes to a halt because of an accident, you bring the car to a stop, and the engine shuts off --- the turbo is still spinning, its bearings getting no oil.
Gotta love all of the scientists and engineers in the comments..
Interesting. Thanks for the video, Sam!
do you have to do this and go thru the motions after every time you start the car? or does it memorize it for the subsequent times you start it and throw it into (L)ow?
You have to do it every time after cranking it up, they really need to offer an "always off" option in the settings.
How will this affect the transmission does it shift exactly the same as in "D" mode? Or does it shift differently?
All the reviews I've read say nothing changes in the way the gears shift.
Putting my Cruze in neutral disables it for me. Doesn't do it in the winter with the defroster on either. I have a 2016.5 LT 1.4L.
This method is best used for around town, not on the freeway. Also, I bet it cost more gas to use the auto stop rather than sitting idling.
I have a 2015 impala when I put the stop and it goes to auto stop when I put the gas button to go the car starts cranking and won't turn back on. What can be the problem?
Now the 2019 has the off button :D
Funny how gm does that. Let's finally fix our problems and then stop making the car🙄
Where is it?
@@Bigg_budd center console? Literally right under the shifter.
Less trouble and more convenient solution. Thanks

Same issue you ever figure it out
Once you do that, then switch it to drive?
No. You keep it there. The car will shift just like any automatic.
Is there any problem in using the L for eliminating the auto start stop while driving long distances or even 20 miles. Is it best to only use the L while driving short distances?
no
So you do have the option to turn that crap off then right?.
no
yes
I'm about ready to trade this damn Malibu in because of this feature. I've only had it for a few months and it hasn't bothered me up until this evening
THANK YOU! I feel like auto stop is counter productive.
Works , slightly annoying to put in L6 every time but far less than the auto stop which is absolutely retarded , should fire the person that thought of it
You can also switch to L when you're making a stop and then shift back to D when taking off.
Does the water pump still run?
I got one for ya. Or anyone who can help me. I took my 2016 Chevy Cruz 6speed automatic to get my oil changed on Sept 23rd my auto start/stop hasn't worked since. I actually want mine to work because it saves on fuel. Any suggestions on why it just quit working?
