    My granddaughter was in a fatal car crash today in the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze, the air bags deployed saving her life as well as her 4 year old daughter. The car was demolished, yet they walked away. Sore and afraid, yet thankful.

      I wouldn't give Chevrolet too much credit. The car this replaced, the cobalt, killed several of its drivers because of a design flaw that Chevrolet tried to cover up and failed. They lost a class action lawsuit as a result.

      @@dylanverkler4552 Of course it does. Turn your brain on. Buy an economy car from Honda or Toyota as they're much more likely to not conceal flaws that kills its customers, never mind let such an issue get past quality control in the first place, as they're actual serious companies.

      My uncle had a collision in 2017, a truck collided with our Chevy, there was just a small dent and the airbags saved his life. That’s the good things about GM, their safety and body strength

    I'm actually a Honda guy.i rented a Cruze to drive 2000 miles round trip around the US. It performed well. I liked it. I actually got 45 mpg on the highway and I'm the CC, the car actually sat at 46.7 mpg on the highway for a while. I didn't care for the climate control and it lacked power, but did have the torque n quick gear shift that it did fine. Like I said, I'm a Honda guy.

    I rented this car and was very impressed overall with the one HUGE caveat mentioned in the video. This car has the worst rear visibility of any car I have driven. I don't know what the designers are thinking with these ever rising belt lines and ever narrowing rear windows. Even seeing blind spots was tough with the door pillars and headrests blocking the view. I have driven 35 years without an accident and almost had one in this car because I couldn't see cars in the blindspot.
    The drive feels was quite good, stop start was unobtrusive,, power adequate and gas mileage was crazy good. I drove 150 miles and the gas gauge had only dropped a little over the 1/8th of a tank mark. So little use, the guy at Enterprise said he wouldn't charge me for the gas. When does that happen. If the GM design folks can improve rear visibility, I would definitely consider this car.

    I've driven Toyotas most of my life and have had a poor opinion of Chevy (ignition gate) so imagine my surprise at the Toronto Auto Show when I decided to take a peek at the Chevy Bolt and discovered the Cruze and Malibu. Both cars were stylish, comfortable, and had lots of leg and head room. I'll be honest, I never considered either of these cars, but as I was disappointed with the lackluster Corolla and oddly shaped Civic, I am now seriously considering the Cruze. Looking forward to a test drive once the weather gets better.

    The Chevrolet Cruze was my top choice for a first car, but the problem was I remembered being told by my doctor that I'm suppose to go past 6 feet tall, which could mean it would be a bit cramped for me. Sadly, I now have to look at mid-size cars, and I already picked the Volkswagen Passat, but if I could have a compact car, I would love to have a Cruze. I was in my neighbor's first generation Cruze. While I thought of it to be a bit ugly on the outside, it was very comfortable with plenty of space on the inside.

    I've put 15k miles on my 2018 LT RS in the past 2 years and I've enjoyed it overall. My highest mpg on the highway was 46mpg from WI to PA and I usually get 28mpg in the city. It's plenty comfortable for me, quiet at high speed, brakes bite well, and it's surprisingly peppy with the turbo. Hopefully with my punctual maintenance I hope to get many more miles without major issues! 🤞
    In terms of let downs, even with the Bose audio package the sound is not the best. Like Micah pointed out, I was also disappointed there is a short bit of play in the steering. Another inconvenience that I have gotten used to doing every time I drive is shift to L and up to 6. This way, I can bypass the auto stop/start. Plus, like others with GDI cars, I worry about carbon build up issues down the road too.

    • @BarcelonaBlitzer

      Update: 55k miles now. Very pleased with how it's held up for 4 years. Maintained fluids and normal maintenance only like brakes at 50k. If you take care of it, it should take care of you.

    The 2014 Chevy Cruz LT1 I think it was, is a nice car. We had it as a rental car. Handled amazing, heated leather seats, and I left wanting to keep it for myself. It accelerated very fast and got excellent mpg. Another car that a lot of people wouldn't expect to do good on gas mileage is the Kia Optima. I got to 41mpg this past summer in mostly highway driving in Central/Northern Cali. It handles excellent, and takes off fast. I have a 2014 Civic with a CVT. I hate CVT transmissions, they take the fun out of driving. How is it that auto manufacturers outside of Honda, Toyota, and Nissan are able to manufacture a car to get 40mpg on the highway with a 6 speed automatic transmission. If they can do it, so can Honda, Nissan, and Toyota.

    Something Chevy seems to do well is start-stop system. I driven a 2013 Malibu 2.4 and while I hated almost everything about it, the start-stop system on that car was a surprise; the sequence was smoother than my mother's Mercedes-Benz equipped with the same system. Kudos to GM for making that work out.
    The mk2 Cruze is nice, but the problem is I don't think it trumps the 2017 mk10 (!) Civic. It has a good deal more power, cost about the same but strikes back with better styling & Honda reliability. Other than that, I would pick this Cruze over anything else in the segment, especially even more so once that Diesel Cruze comes back with VW now out of the picture.

      It works out SO well in the South. It goes KA-THUNK, and there goes the air conditioning. With 100% humidity, that's SUCH a plus. Then, when traffic starts again and the tank behind you is gunning up your backend, you have to stomp that POS like you would a cockroach to get it to come back and get you out of the way. Oh, and when I am driving through less-than-great hoods, the AutoStop puts me in complete danger of being carjacked because I have to feed all the hamsters under the hood lots of RedBull to get me the hell out of there. Yeah, that's something I love.

    I wonder how good this car really is, the commercials and the bad feedback really ruined my first impression of it but... it looks good inside and out, and realistically, I don't care about this extra safety shit. I've only driven older cars anyway, I know how to drive with common sense. I just wish it was faster for highways while maintaining a quiet smooth cabin. My current chevy impala is perfect for that.

    I bought the 2017 Cruze Premier. I would not buy it again. I have less that 2000 miles on it. The stop/start engine is AWEFUL! It clunks engaging and disengaging and IS NOT SEEMLESS!! When it starts after a stop at a stop sign or after an extended stop at a light, you can feel & HEAR it starting! This is one of the few cars with the stop/start feature that cannot be shut off or bypassed! I have started to put it in neutral when coming to a stop so the engine doesn't shut off . The six speed transmission in stop/go city traffic, it is annoying with its CONSTANT shift changing. When I called GM, they suggested I take it in to be checked. I spoke with one tech who told me that this is how this car is. He said to use the L drive and manually shift if I wanted to better control the shifting. I took it in to another dealership. The tech drove with me and said, yea, that's how this car is. When I filled out a survey for GM, they called. When I explained my complaints, I was basically told, they were sorry I felt the way I did! They also said that the car is "learning" my driving habits and trying to adapt to it. They said it would take until 5000 miles for this to correct itself! The Anti-Collision feature almost caused me to be in accident! It caused engine & gas pedal to disengage when I deliberately crossed road markings! Scared me to death! The person following me had to go around me because the engine was pulling me to a stop! UGH!! Because my $28000 car is now listing for $19000 after 2 months on the market, I am STUCK! I DO NOT RECOMMEND this car unless you buy the standard transmission.
    Show less

      The start Stop thing is anoying for sure. But many other models have that shit too. It's so stupid. I bought the 2017 Turbo Diesel back in August and I have 6,600 miles on it. That lane departure feature can be disabled in the settings, which I did as it is completely useless. Design is ok. That's a matter of taste, it doesn't make a car good or bad, if the design is appealing to someone. It certainly has a nicer design than the MK6 Jetta I had before that. Other than the Start/ Stop non-sense, I am pretty satisfied with the car. No problems yet and it runs pretty good. I wanted the stick shift, but since it was in August, I had to take what was left thru the dealers, and all sticks were sold. :( Automatics suck. Just disable your "lane departure" feature in the settings and you won't have to deal with it. I'm sure that future models will be improved and maybe offer the option to disable Start/Stop, because the service advisor told me that this is the MAIN complaint people have. Other than that it's a nice vehicle.

    • @daveb40361
      @daveb40361 6 років тому +2

      @ Teresa Hobbs: The auto-stop/start "feature" CAN be bypassed. When putting the car into gear to drive, simply pull the shifter all the way to L instead of D. Once in L, click the + button on top of the shifter 5 times until the dashboard readout of the gear selected says L6, then drive normally. This locks out the annoying auto-stop/start and the car won't turn off when it stops. There is no chance of transmission damage, the L6 display means that the car will shift automatically through all 6 forward gears. I've driven my 2017 Cruze Premier this way since I bought it.

    The 1.4 turbo engine is quite possible the worst engine GM has ever made. It is loaded with design issues, and has about 10 different major issues, most of them with a 100% failure rate. I have this engine in my Chevy Sonic, and it is a nightmare. On top of all the other problems this engine has, GM sabotaged it buy putting DEXKILL in it instead of coolant. This stuff goes in as a liquid, and slowly solidifies in the engine and cooling system, plugging up everything and destroying. GM has known about this since 1996, so it is obvious they are doing it on purpose. Stay far away from any GM vehicle. If you want a transportation car, get a Toyota Corolla.

  • @thomashardy9727
    @thomashardy9727 6 років тому +12

    Don't ever buy GM. Various mechanical pieces are likely to break when you hit around 40000 miles. And that is the point beyond the bumper to bumper warranty. Terrible resale value. Research on the interenet.
    Also if you are in the market for a new car, don't watch reviews like these on youtube. They just review what can be seen with the eyes like the quality of the plastic in the interior. Most of the things in a car that matter in a car like mechanical reliability and trustworthiness of a brand cannot be seen with eyes and are not touched on by these poor youtube reviewers. Go to sites like consumeraffairs or car complaints to assess the long term reliability of a car. Watch youtube reviews only to pass the time. Don't make a decision based on these. You're going to regret it.

    • @bmw803
      @bmw803 6 років тому +2

      You're obviouslty giving your opinion. I had a 2013 Jetta TDI until recently when I bought the 2017 Cruze TDI. The fucking VW was HARD PLASTICS all over the place. The entire dash, back cover, and all door paneling. NO SOFT FUCK ALL as they used to do in the past including cloth on the door interiors. And what about the hard plastics in Japanese, European and Korean cars? ALL THE SAME SHIT. I personally am not a big GM fan either, but since VW doesn't sell TDI anymore I opted for the Cruze TDI. To be honest, it's not a bad deal at all for the money. Resale?? A psychological scam. They make you believe that a car with more miles is worth more. You end up paying more for something that has more wear and tear on it. Good for the seller of course, but it's only stupid people that fall for this myth. I have neighbors with 2011 Cruze and they have no problems with them. So, if reviews on youtube are no good for GM, they're obviously no good for any other brand.

    I have a 2017 manual: i like it, it's good on gas and the engine is well behaved. But the steering is vague and has NO feel whatsoever, the dash is SLAPED together, my shift knob is already wearing down; i only have 18 000 miles on it. It's practical though, and comfortable.
    Buy this car if your top priorities are this: you want comfort while also having a very well tuned engine for cheap. Quality? No, at that price point asian manufacturers are largely superior.

    There’s a reason why they stopped making this car. Funny how Toyota has been making the Corolla for over 50 years and sold millions around the world since then. The Japanese just have a different mindset of improving over time. My sister had a Chevy Cobalt that was junk. After only a few years, tires and engine sensors started going off, auto windows stopped working, interior and exterior paint was chipping and fading. She recently traded it for a new Camry and couldn’t be happier.
