Very sad Scotty. My Dad retired GM. 40's thru 80's a powerhouse juggernaut with great cars except vega, chevette & cavalier. Then came Saturn. But Obummer killed Saturn. And Pontiac. Saturn was the Future. Japan's secret quality weapon? American invention. "SPC". And workers with pride vs UAW graft & greed. NUMMI proved both concepts. I prefer a bigger normally aspirated engine - all that fuel economy savings goes out the window 2000 USD at a time when you have to put the car in the workshop to replace a turbo

We had a 2012 Cruze with the 1.8 non-turbo 4. Never had any problems with it and nearly 200k miles of city and suburbs driving. Daughter drove it thru her college years and after, so it didn’t always get maintained on time. The drivetrain was bulletproof. The only reason we no longer have it is an accident that insurance totaled it. The insurance settlement was the downpayment for her next car. No regrets with the Cruze. If you went thru 3 or 4 transmissions you had to be abusing it.

That's what scares me most about used cars, you just don't know if the person before you went 30,000 miles on an oil changed and raced at every red light. Sure you can visually see wear and tear if it's really bad, but a lot of the internal damage/wear/tear can stay hidden until after you've bought the car and drove for some time. Just makes me extra cautious when inspecting a used car for purchase. Be careful out there folks, there's some really slimy people that sell junkers disguised as "low mileage lease buyback" cars/trucks

I had a '14 turbo cruze and loved it. Took it from Winnipeg, Manitoba to Dallas and back. Also went from Winnipeg to Georgia to Toronto back to Winnipeg. Never had any issues ever.
It drove pretty good on the highway and did its job well. Not much passing power at 75mph and doesn't win too many races.
Ended up trading towards a Chevy Equinox because I had two kids. Worked very well with 1 baby seat.

A common problem on the Cruze is DTC P0301, "Misfire cylinder 1", and the the Stabilitrak light comes on. By the time you get this code and light, you probably have a cracked piston, aka time for an engine replacement. This usually happens right after the 60k mile powertrain warranty ends.
There are are computer software updates for the engine control module that the dealer may or may not do for free. This can help reduce pinging, which causes damage to the pistons. Using 91 octane gas will also help.

The ride hight provides better visibility. 6. I think they look better. 7. Great for hauling, and trailers. Money is tight for me, so the more my car can do the better. My 2014 Chevy Cruze has 94,000 miles on it so far. I’m the original owner, bought it new in December 2014. I have had the water filter and thermostat replaced recently and have had the valve cover replaced earlier this year as well as the coolant reserve tank too because it had a crack in it from all the weather conditions over the years. Other than those problems, so far so good. I keep it well maintained with the oil changes, filter changes and soon will be doing a transmission fluid change once it hits 100,000 miles. The real downside of Chevy Cruzes was just cheap parts that fail and break on you at the worse times like what happened to me. The Cruze had a funny recall. Folks had these as company cars. Walk out in the morning and the trunk is open. Neighborhood kid rings doorbell says the trunk is open again. Just a slight bump of the key fob in the pocket or taking it out to put it on the counter at home would open the trunk. Fix was to increase the delay in the computer

I have a 2016 Chevy Cruze, I went through two horns, one was replaced under warranty but it went again so I dropped the bumper & replaced it myself. At 36K miles I just replaced the transmission fluid, it took 5 quarts. The trans shop said it has the same tranny as my son's 2015 Malibu. Mine goes 0-60 mph in 7 seconds, I love the handling. I got mine with 8K miles for $14,800 cash in 2016. The first owners bought it through their son-in-law who was a salesman so it was well optioned with mud flaps & everything. Put up a Pinto when you want to rag on bad cars, the Cruze aint it! But they did use crappy screws that rust, I had to drill one out to replace my air filter!

I recently sold my 2011 Cruze with 53,000 miles and bought a Lexus RX 350 after watching one of your videos, Lol! Even though mine didn't have oil leaking like a lot of 'em, it still would smell like oil every once in a while. (It had low miles cuz we'd take my husband's car everywhere pretty much, lol) It was an ok car, but after hearing about my friend's transmission/brake incident.. I was getting hesitant to hang on to it any longer and wanted something higher quality. We love your videos!

Glad to see Scotty giving a fair review of the Chevy cruze. I bought a 2014 new with the 1.4 turbo and I’ve been very happy with it. Being light the original tires lasted to 102,000. And I still have the original brakes at 140,000. However that’s partly due to the fact that I have a manual. Water pump failed at 135,000 but covered under warranty.

I had a 2008 Chevy Cobalt and it lasted for 10 years with minimal repairs and I sold it to a friend of mine and he says it still runs great. I since bought a Chevy Cruze and I am very happy with it so far. I did own a really crappy Toyota Corolla at one point. Had problems with it every five minutes, and driving was not fun at all. Bought it used for $14,000 from a dealership and sold it less than a year later after putting another $4000+ into it worth of constant repairs. Never again will I waste my money on a Toyota.

Like your video! The Cruze has been a good car but I was laughing when you mentioned the ECM issues because I just had to replace mine. I have a 2017 Premiere. Bought it in June 2017 and have been getting regular maintenance. I have 53,000 miles on it and my ECM went bad a week ago. Kind of was pissed as I didn’t think it should have gone out that soon. I love everything about it except that so far. I’ve noticed since the ECM was replaced a drop in my gas mileage but the dealership I got it replaced at told me it’s going to take a couple weeks for the ECM to “relearn” your driving habits. Sure hope that’s the case. If the ECM goes out again for some reason that might be the last time. Funny thing is I just am a couple months away from paying it off..

I'm getting my 17 Chevy Cruze AT fixed soon, I'm the 3rd owner but you know how it goes.... the first 2 owners just used it for it's gas saving capabilities with little to none maintenance. Once I got this all sorted out I'll baby this as it's really giving you gas savings it's crazy (my brother has a Toyota Yaris iA/Mazda 2 much better low maintenance car but can't beat my gas money savings). Got it from 136k miles to 179k miles in 8 months of driving 170 miles a day 😅😅😅 guess it's asking me back for the money I saved because the old owners didn't took care of it. I feel much comfortable on this car than the Mazda 2 my brother had and this has android auto which really helps me avoid slow traffic and man did we got to a lot of canyon and side street drive but still @ $20 for a 170mile drive it really is crazy it can save this much.... too bad it's discontinued. It could've been improve but you know how American cars are.

I have a 2019 chevy Malibu, very very similar to the Cruze. Same engine and everything. Bought it used at 32k miles from hertz car sales. the only problem with the car is that it does not shift the gears right. It will take much longer time for the gears to shift. It has put me it very unsafe situations. Now this does not happen all the time. Most does it does well and the car is fine, but some days it will literally stall on accelerating. I floor the gas pedal and it will take a couple seconds to shift gears and accelerate. Any advice ?
