I want to share my story with P1101. I own an Opel Meriva B with 1.4 litre engine(A14NEL), also installed on Chevy Cruze. So, i got P1101(only) and check engine light. After replacing 4 MAF sensors, it turned out to be the throttle body. After replacing the throttle body(old one was looking like new). My car runs perfect now with original MAF. 👍
Really good video. Good job not falling for the “unplug the MAF and if things improve the sensor is bad” trap. As you showed, when the sensor is unplugged the PCM reverts to default parameters which in this case were simply more accurate than what the MAF was correctly reading given then airflow abnormality. Unplugging the MAF actually almost always improves the condition but it’s usually not because the MAF is faulty- it’s because the substituted values put a shadow over the actual issue.
What kind of obd do you have that reads those displays?? Good video I’m currently going thru this right now I bought a intercooler hose but I’m going to do what you did and check for any other damages on the hoses if not I want to buy something that I can read its performance to be able to see if it’s doing almost what that car did you worked on or similar to it💯💯
I used GDS2 which is the factory diagnostic software. There are many other aftermarket tools that are capable of doing it. They can range from cheap to thousands of dollars. Here’s one that I’ve tried out and it was less than $150 when they sent it to me. I drive a 2020 Chevy Malibu LT. Last yr, my car stopped accelerating and would not go above 60mph, the check engine light came on and my codes were P0700, P0730, P1101. 06/22/22, had my transmission replaced by dealership. I was good for a little while and then all of a sudden on 07/15/23, I was driving home with my youngest child in car and upon exiting the highway in GA, my car lost all power, would not accelerate above 60mph, again check engine light came on and the same codes. Dealership replaced my transmission again on 09/25/23. I replaced my Mass Air Flor sensor on 09/27/23 and my car is still throwing the P1101 code. I am pissed because now I have to figure out what is wrong with my engine. The CVT transmission is awful-I do not recommend anyone buy a 2020 Chevy Malibu.
Sorry to hear you've had that bad experience. I have seen internal engine problems cause the P1101 if no other air leaks or MAF sensor fault is present. PCV orifice being clogged is common as well as the PCV diaphragm being ruptured, I have another video featuring a ruptured diaphragm making a squealing noise. Other than that, I've seen broken piston ring lands and stuck piston rings cause P1101 and in extreme cases carbon build up on the valves too. Thanks for commenting.
Should’ve checked and/or cleaned/replaced your throttle body. When one component fails, it tends to trick the ecu into thinking more parts are failing.
Unfortunately, alot of newer cars come equipped with the cvt transmission. Toyota, honda, kia, etc cheaper made transmission with a whole lot of money to fix.
Had this code found the pcv hose was broken and now have installed the new tube and can unhook the maf sensor and it gets to level out but the Calculated air flow is 40-50
I was on my way to work and was at a light and my Chevy Cruze 2018 shut off, I thought it was the auto stop feature but when I took my foot of the break it didn’t start back up. I shut it off and tried to start it again and it wouldn’t start back up. I had to get it towed home. When the tow truck driver got there it started for him but It was shaking like it wanted to die, he stepped on the gas to the floor and the tachometer would only go to 2-3 nothing higher. The next day I started it twice within 10 minutes and nothing seemed wrong but I checked the code and it was p1101, what do you think?
Check the black plastic duct that goes on top of the engine for popping loose. There is a clip that if it is installed upside down the duct can come loose. Thanks.
Hello, could you help me, it happens to me with my Cruze, it gives me the code p1101 and p2138 and the check engine turns on and the "reduced engine power" message appears, sometimes it happens from time to time, sometimes it is constant, what do you recommend I do?
P2138 is usually a faulty accelerator pedal assembly, sometimes it can be wiring harness damage under the hood. P1101 can be caused by anything that will make the engine breathe abnormally, or an inaccurate MAF/MAP sensor reading.
I have not made such a video… Yet. P0096 Indicate that IAT 1 and IAT 2 disagree with each other after an 8 hour cold soak. I’d suspect the wiring has been tampered with at the MAF sensor or the MAP sensor. Thanks.
@DadsGarageDiagnosticSpecialist An open or short in the Intake air temp sensor will generally result in output voltage extremities and create an over rich or over lean condition that may result in power loss and possible fault code logged. Surprisingly this is what I found on Google. Everyone on UA-cam said get the code. This is the code P0096.
@gushardy4421 it needs to be diagnosed. If it was open or shorted, you would have a high or low circuit code instead of a performance code. Most likely it’s going to be a wiring problem.
I had engine light on rough idle scanner said p1101. Changed air filter new maf sensor. New spark plugs new coils cleaned throttle body used starting fluid and carb cleaner and even soapy water no vacuum leaks cleared code and engine light is off butt idles worse and fuel mileage dropped wtf ?
@@DadsGarageDiagnosticSpecialist we just did that my friend is small engines mech . Called about 10 mins. Ago he said all reading were fine didn't say what the readings were. I'm thinking maybe 02 sensor ?
O2 sensor won’t cause a P1101 code. P1101 is caused by the MAF reading more or less than it theoretically should due to an air leak, a faulty sensor, or some engine mechanical problem that causes it to breathe differently. I’ve repaired P1101 with pistons a few times… compression test was good too. The rings were stuck due to carbon at about 27,000mi.
I have this car my stabilatrack came on and my car never ran the same again runs sluggish can't have ac high cause has loss of power and don't cool down like it should ???
Try cleaning your throttle body it self should help also make sure you have enough air in your tires as this can cause this to pop up to …all fails disconnect the battery for 5 mins then re connect should help as well
I have this code right now but there is no loss of power, or rough idle at all car seems to run normal still. Where should I start with checking things?
Check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/Pa2e_Hw2aeA/v-deo.htmlsi=OXJkwPpkLvACY4Wn If you have a code reader or scan tool, check your fuel trims. What are they doing at idle? Thanks.
@brannontejeda3854 so the long-term trim is indicating that it is adding fuel most likely because the oxygen sensor detected more air than the MAF sensor measurement for airflow said it should have. So the fuel trim is a correction off of the initial measurement. Your fuel trim is adding fuel so you need to be looking for air getting into the system after the mass airflow sensor somewhere. Being at idle when engine vacuum is high you should look for something close to the intake manifold or on the intake ducts somewhere, but check it all. If you can’t find anything loose or obviously leaking then you can use a small puff of something like brake cleaner and wet the ducts here and there…. Let it dry before you move on so you don’t accumulate a fire hazard. Do this while watching your short term trim…. If it suddenly goes way negative you’ve found your leak. If however, you never find a leak at all… Look at the air filter and the mass airflow sensor. If at that point I had still found nothing… I would do a volumetric, efficiency test, and test the engines ability to breathe… Then compare it to another known good car because the engine itself may be worn out or some other reason it is breathing more or less air than it is supposed to. This along with testing the crank case pressure. Next time I get a P1101 code caused by a faulty engine there will be a video.
Mine started that way, I’ve driven my car with code for over a year. The rough idle and loss of power will come. I changed the mass air flow sensor myself and took it to chevy to have the air filter changed but no luck yet
