Beautiful outfits Marie-Anne. I am 5'1" so this video is for me. It's hard to pick a favourite. Yes i can easily recreate the white/off white outfit. Beautiful. I have a sleeveless chic black linen dress midi length and love the idea of nude shoes. And i can do the third outfit. Easy. Thanku very much for the tips. ❤ Bev 😊
What I like the most about this video is that you considered all the factors, which is a necessary and different approach from the so many "how to style a petite body size" videos on UA-cam.
Thank you for the tips. At my age (67) I don't worry too much about my height anymore. Sometimes I'm monochromatic and other days I just wear whatever I'm in the mood for. Thank you Marie-Anne.
Dear Marie-Anne, your enthusiasm is contagious! thanks for these tips, I will try to recreate these outfits, I’m petite and hourglass type, I always struggle with sleeves and trousers length! Keep safe and healthy, Michela
Great video! I am very short, with short legs, a very long torso, and an hourglass body shape. I prefer bootcut jeans, and I am glad that you confirm they are better. Can you talk about accessories like scarves and jewelry. I prefer monochromatic outfits.
Oh, same shape here; we are not alone! 😁 it is a challenging one to dress, I think. I like bootcut too; with a heel; anything that makes the legs look longer is a friend to us!
You just described my body. I like my top or jacket the same color of my pants or skirt, creating a column of color. A camisole under an open shirt works well for me.
Merci Marie-Anne! Excellent vidéo. You have all the answers for matching garments wisely and look good. Please stick to your styling videos. You are number one style adviser.
Je suis petite 😉 but I like colour blocking and trousers that end at my ankles. I may not look tall but I look cute and I feel great in those outfits 😊
Thanks for the tips. I'm a petite (about 5' 2"). One thing that I've learned is to try both the regular and petite. The regular can be tailored if needed. One brand of jeans that I had, the petite fit best. But when I lost some weight and needed to go down a size, the petite were just a little on the short side. I could wear the regular and hem them, which is one of the few bits of tailoring that I can do myself.
I'm 5'3" but have short torso and long legs and arms and have been told that I appear taller. Great outfit ideas especially advise on white/off white styling.
Thank you for this video. Being petite, I have always struggled with what to wear to appear taller. I love your ideas for the monochrome looks and boot cut pants. Unfortunately, I am finding that most European clothing companies do not offer the petite sizing like in the US. Merci, Marie-Anne!!
I'm 5'4" and don't care at all about looking taller, in fact I feel awkward when I am taller than the person I'm talking to. On the other hand, I am going to try wearing one colour or similar colours top and bottom, because I do want to look more slender, and I think that is the same thing optically as looking taller. Today I was wearing a colour blocked outfit with a contrasting top and bottom and I didn't like it when I saw myself in a full length mirror. It looked clunky on me. Now I understand why. I think it would be okay if the contrasting element was a long sweater for instance, because that would create a long line. Outfits that cut me in half in the middle just have to go!
Thank you Marie Anne, as a petite, all my life try to followup basic stylist rules, but... Today learn a new for me, one color rule, really works. As always, really appreciate your videos.
Thank you, I appreciate and enjoy your petite videos. I still struggle to find much selection available in petite sizes that are good quality and fashionable. This week I’ve ordered from multiple online stores because no one in the United States carries them in the store. I decided I’ll just order multiple sizes and see what fits.
Bonjour Suzan - it is hard to find good petite selections - most brands just think that making garments smaller automatically means they are good for petites 🤷♀️
Thank you for showing the white on white outfit. I’ve always tried to avoid it because of the whole trying to match the same white tones together head to toe. My fall back would always be black & white. I think I am going to go for it today. It is Sunday the 7th. I live in the UK and It’s summer of course, but this weekend,as you know, it feels like early spring, early autumn temperatures with wind. I will go with my ecru coloured soft jumper and white trousers. Thank you for giving me my outfit inspiration for today. Glad I watched this video this morning.
It is really stunning. Unfortunately I am expert at spilling food on anything white so I'll have to work up my courage! 😁 With my coloring, I am thinking of maybe reversing the white and off-white. And of course, a V or scoop neckline for that darn big bust!
The problem of the petite size is one of my challenges. I’m 5feet barely 1 inches tall. Rectangle. Since following you I’ve become much more sensitive to the proportions I wear but I still have a lot of trouble making decisions. The whole thing about patterns and cuts i haven’t dominated yet. A work in progress.
Bonjour Marie Anne. How nice to see you this evening, I'm five foot nine, so always buy regular length in trousers etc... I'm sooooo desperate to go shopping in all my fantastic charity shops, missing them terribly, but oh my goodness I've saved sooo much money in last two months, so gotta be good I guess!!!!! Keep safe and best wishes mon Cherie Paula x
There were some great tips in the video; white and off white and the fine vertical stripe. I'll be looking for a fine knit with a fine stripe. Thank you Marie-Anne, I always feel better about myself after seeing your videos, there is hope even if at 157 cm. I've never worn boot leg jeans but I'll be searching some out. I have to be in the right frame of mind to clothes shop - NZ has very few petite brands. Best buy ever is my petite Hobbs trench which I bought when in UK last year, thank you for recommending the brand.
Thanks Marie-Anne. You gave great advice. I am guilty of wearing contrasting colours - navy top with white shorts. I am going to start trying to wear similar colours as you recommended (cream top with white shorts or something like that).
Hello Marie-Anne. Thank you for this video, it is so helpful. In reference to the little black dress, I noticed you had nude shoes? Can you wear black heels? And if so should your stockings be black? I am trying to get a nice outfit together for a Thanksgiving dinner and I have the perfect black dress but not sure about the shoes?
Thank you for giving much needed suggestions for those of us who are horizontally challenged. I'm 5'1" and thin except for my tummy. That adds to my problem of looking stylish. Always researching ways to overcome.
Thank you so much for your thorough review of the rules for petites. I have heard them before yet seem to get off track at times. Then I wonder why I feel shorter and heavier in a particular outfit. Once again, you clarify things for me. I think a purge is warranted and unfortunately I have the time to do it since I’m following the pandemic rules too.
I like these outfits, but I also wear dark socks when wearing dark pants and shoes to eliminate the “white foot break”. For lengthening I also like a dress with a contrasting long cardigan, another tip I learned from you - this makes the body look slimmer as well as longer. Thanks for another terrific video.
I am a huge fan of bootcut and flared jeans. I’ve recently discovered that if I buy pants that are meant to be cropped, they work on me as long pants. It’s my new favorite find! I am cleaning out my closet and starting over with adult clothes that fit me. So excited!
Bonjour Mme Lecoeur!! Thank you for this helpful video on petite dressing. I’m 60+ and petite but these rules could be applied to a petite of any age. Agreed that contrasting the top & bottom cuts off the sillouette into half but glad to know that whites suited petites too. Thought only taller ones had this privilege. Just curious to know with reference to your earlier video on the red dress coordinates, (which I appreciated very much) whether petites could go in for the black pullover/blazer/ scarf options at all or the last one ( black frilly blouse inside the dress) in order to go by this one basic rule.
Thanks for sharing this video. I am petite 5’2 and I would like you to give ideas about shorts. Plus I love the blue and white striped tops . Please give your views on this. Thank you
I am 5ft 1- I appreciate the outfits shown. Easy to recreate and optically streamlines those of us that are vertically challenged. I am very short waisted which can be a challenge but thank you for the tips
I love the term “vertically challenged “. Haha. I will use that more often myself! I’m not small, I’m just “vertically challenged”. It’s not a problem it’s just a challenge!
Bonjour Marie-Anne. I am 5' 4.5" I call myself petite but my friends don't think I'm petite. I think you figured it out for me. I think I am short-waisted, but on petite-sized clothing the shoulders are usually too tight and the sleeves too short. I have no issues with pants though but sometimes I do need to get them shortened. Another great video. Merci.
Happy Start of Summer Marie! As a petite person, I try to get the best buys when shopping for a certain garments I always Buy simple and classic. If I buy a flower blouse I keep it simple and it always works!
Your sizing tips are true. American catalog's petite hip width is usually 1/2" less than the regular size. The east and west is scaled down as well as north and south A pear shape may need a full bottom, requiring a regular size, but with hemming. Separate pieces in the same color, as you suggest, are the secret. Thanks!
Hello Marie-Anne, I fully agree with your three proposals. Whenever I deviate from the advices given in this video, I feel very uncomfortable and I immediately return to these basic rules. You comforted me by specifying that monochrome tones can be combined even if the colors are not exactly the same. A big thank you from a little French woman: 1m58, 41 kilos, rectangle shape! I would love to have your silhouette 😭 ... and your elegance❣️
Hi Marie-Anne, I definitely enjoyed this video. As a very petite, slim woman, I am blessed to be in good proportion. I can wear what I like. My biggest challenge is finding what I like. Theory is my favorite place to shop, but they really don’t carry much in dress wear - particularly for cocktail attire. The petite section in any store is always a very scaled down version of what is offered in regular sizes. The #1 must is to have a great alterations specialist. Cheers 😎
The other side of my story. I’m tall so I struggled to look “average” when I was a teenager. Not anymore! Here most women are petite and make lots of mistakes trying to look taller. One of the worst is when they wear big and thick platforms to look taller. However they get the opposite effect. Heavy, big platforms make them look heavier, terribly unbalanced and adding one mistake over another, they walk funny. A big no-no! Some also wear very bright colors despite their body shape and that’s also a terrible mistake. Sharing your video in order to light some of my Costa Rican latinas a ray of light, so those struggling with their petite height can learn how to make the best out of it! A bientot Marie-Anne!
Hello David and Marie -Anne, I have seen the platform shoe look and never liked it for myself at 5'1", when I was much younger I could wear boots with a higher heel (not spikes) today as a senior lady, I go for more of a "uniform" look that I can pair with most of what I have. Let's just admit that shorter people should stick with a monotone look because you have to be very tall and quite thin to pull off the "looks" that people see in magazines. Since I have always been the backpacker, gardener, animal lover, horseback rider, I tend towards casual anyway but Marie Anne has given me that extra inspiration to go a bit further!
Dee Wood you can adjust the clothes and accessories accordingly to your body, height and style but most important, you must feel comfortable and beautiful. It’s not what others say, is how you feel. And remember when we feel beautiful and happy inside, we look that way on the outside. People see in us what we have inside. And as Marie-Anne says, style over fashion and your style is a reflection of yourself.😸
Merci, Mary-Anne. Your "little black dress" is the epitome of elegance. I like the sleeve length on the black top you are wearing with the blue jeans in this video. Nice style sleeve for the petite, mature woman like myself. The tips on color blocks and wearing similar colors is most helpful. I own mostly black dress trousers and pair them with tops in heather or dark gray. I am uncomfortable wearing white or ivory pants - not my style. Any suggestions what color trousers might work with a bisque or sand color cashmere sweater? I was thinking light blue denim jean.
I am 5' 4" and agree with sticking to the same color family when possible. I love navy on navy and black on black. I am going to try white with cream or oatmeal color for a change.
So I love the simplicity and this looks good on petite and me too. my question is when it’s super hot out I do not like wearing shorts but a short Capri pants is most appealing functionally. how do I style a short pant or a rolled up trouser look without looking dumpy
Good morning Madame. I truly never thought of myself as a petite until a recent physician's office visit measured me at 5' 2". For years I had thought of myself as being 3 inches taller. How do you wear something like a colored t-shirt or pants with another color and not look stumpy? I don't always want to wear monochromatic clothes. I would love a video addressing that topic. As always, your latest video was much enjoyed and I look forward to your next one. Thank you!
In cooler temperatures you could use layers to add splashes of color, while still keeping a uniform vertical color story. Try wearing a colorful, collared shirt under a crew neck, or V-neck pullover sweater, letting the collar and cuffs peek out. Or wear a colorful t-shirt (or other top) under a cardigan, or blazer; even worn open, they would help continue the vertical line, if they’re the same color as your pants.
62 yrs old now , in the 80s first discovered the straight /bootleg jeans perfect for me. Maybe I tricked the midwife first visited in clinic , she thought at first was 5 cm longer. TY for this video.
Dear Marie-Anne, You look so wonderful in your clothes. Have you ever thought of designing your own line? The black dress you wear in this video is absolutely gorgeous but I see nothing like it in stores. I also want to tell you that you remind me of Diane de Poitiers.
It is not a rule so much as a styling tool Maureen - some tools work for some not for others some tools have to be adapted by you to make them work. I think you would really benefit from watching my livestream this afternoon 😃
I am a petite pear shape. I would love to wear white from head to toe but with my white hair, it looks bizarre. Off white, especially, looks bad. Are white cropped jeans and a print/striped top a no no? It's hard to find a good fit/length inseam so I default to cropped in summer. I thought the pretty prints on top would bring the eye up. 😔 I would love to be shaped like you.
I am 5’3 xspetite hourglass. I can wear all of theses outfits. Some people don’t understand that petite is also a proportion. Thank you for mentioning that. I wear jeans a lot. I didn’t realize that bootcut adds heights. I will have to add a couple more pair to my wardrobe. I mostly have skinny jeans. I do like bootcut. I love wearing heels and wedges as they are also dressier even with a casual outfit. I have more than one lbd that is a must. It can be styled many ways for all seasons.Finding petites that are pretty is difficult to do. Petites departments are very small. Most of the clothes are ugly or not at all the classic style I love. I do have a couple of places I shop that have petite friendly clothing. Thank you for doing this video Marie- Anne.I always look forward to your advice.
Hello Marie-Anne, I hope you see this message so long after this video aired. I am petite 5'2 and I am still trying to decide on body shape. I am wondering if I can high-rise boot cut jeans? or just regular jeans that sit on the waist.... if I can find such a thing these days! Thank you!
Great video Marie-Anne. I was always 5'5", but may have shrunk a little. I'm not a true petite though, as I have long arms and legs. I agree with the "column of colour" and simplicity if you're not tall. What if you were petite and short waisted (say a rectangle or inverted triangle)? It may be better to leave tops untucked in that case. What do you think?
Please tell me: 1-How 2 use scarves 4 petite 2-How 2 use 💼 bags: colors+ shape 4 petite 3-How to use accessories : size/length 4- Shape of shoes 👠 5- width of belt Thks in anticipation 😘
Bonjour Marie-Anne! I'm exactly 5'4". I don't always dress in the same color from head to toe even though I know it makes you look taller and slimmer. I will endeavor to try this more often. My best colors are bright and warm therefore wouldn't want to look like a bright ball of color coming at you thus I wear bright tops with dark bottoms. Hmmm, suggestions? Merci!!
As a 63 inches tall woman and an American size 2 I love the look of being a tiny woman and really dont have problems finding clothes that fit. I wish women would see the beauty in being petite and accept how it adds to their individuality. Of course Maries advice is spot on for those who wish to appear taller and that is of course their right. I love this womans advice but I just do not feel that being tall or looking tall is something to aspire to. Individual beauty is what I aspire to and I love being petite as I accept my beauty.
I'am 1.62 cm. Wear size 36. Do I need to dress always in one color? I have a pear shaped, but not as curvy. I am pretty symmetrical, and don't like to wear high heels. What are your recommendations Anne Marie? Please help me
Minimalism in style (this is how I still like to use this word) is of course a bit different, to what nowadays in social media is called minimalism. where is is more about lifestyle and a sort of spartan style. I think, you used minimalism here, as it is used in fashion, architecture etc. I think, I know, what you mean, by simplicity in regard to french chic. when I was in Paris 2 years ago, I noticed that on street-wear. even with the younger people. not that everybody was chic :-) but one could see the tendency
@@MarieAnneLecoeur that is true! it's just, 18 years ago, I called this 'spartan' style (regarding lifestyle/furniture) or reduced/concentrated style ;-D but in German of course. that were the only words, that came into my mind then
Brands are all different. Some brands will shorten the sleeves on a shirt, but leave the shirt length the same as regular size. Some brands give petites a slimmer, more tailored shape; some don't. Try to check their measurements on-line. In many Petites, you have to size up a whole size in Petites.
❤ Bev 😊

Thanks for the tips. I'm a petite (about 5' 2"). One thing that I've learned is to try both the regular and petite. The regular can be tailored if needed. Thanks for reminding me of all these tips. A long line doesn’t get broken up so I look slimmer, more sophisticated even while I live at the beach
Thank you for this video. Being petite, I have always struggled with what to wear to appear taller. I love your ideas for the monochrome looks and boot cut pants. Unfortunately, I am finding that most European clothing companies do not offer the petite sizing like in the US. Merci, Marie-Anne!!

Great video Marie -Anne! Think the tip being offered here are great and are useful, not just for Petites.
@@MarieAnneLecoeur I agree wholeheartedly!
Not difficult to create, thanks
The v-shape or high neckline is more lengthening on petites. U- shape necklines do shorten upper torso so avoid them.
I belong to the IBTC, so V-necks look ridiculous on me. 🤣
@@annad.l6087 What is that?
Meaning white and cream or off white and beige with oatmeal or white. I don't like pure white on white.
Sempre brava e veramente elegante
Love your tips!
Very Nice dress and love the bootcut
62 yrs old now , in the 80s first discovered the straight /bootleg jeans perfect for me. Maybe I tricked the midwife first visited in clinic , she thought at first was 5 cm longer. TY for this video.
Amazing I am petite ! Gracias !😘
Love my hour glass shape
Don't like new age skinny look buy I do like some of your ideas😊
You have to love your shape Mya - that is the very first step in style
I loved this and it came at the right time as I'm in the middle of your petite course. Thank you x
Dear Marie-Anne, You look so wonderful in your clothes. Have you ever thought of designing your own line? The black dress you wear in this video is absolutely gorgeous but I see nothing like it in stores. I also want to tell you that you remind me of Diane de Poitiers.
Having lighter colors blend but not match is a new concept for me - thank you!
Wonderful as always!
Does this rule about tucking in tops apply to a rectangle with a short torso and a rounded lower stomach (apron).?
It is not a rule so much as a styling tool Maureen - some tools work for some not for others some tools have to be adapted by you to make them work. I think you would really benefit from watching my livestream this afternoon 😃
makes sense!!! thanks
Very good tips!
I've shrunk to 5 ft. Thanks for the tips!
Just wandering if outfit #1 off white top and white pants be ok with pear shaped figure? Thank you.
Thank you so much! You are such a blessing 💗💞
5’4”” is difficult as it’s right on the cusp . Thank you for the video
Please tell me:
1-How 2 use scarves 4 petite
2-How 2 use 💼 bags: colors+ shape 4 petite
3-How to use accessories : size/length
4- Shape of shoes 👠
5- width of belt
Thks in anticipation 😘
Excellent
Bonjour Marie-Anne! I'm exactly 5'4". I don't always dress in the same color from head to toe even though I know it makes you look taller and slimmer. I will endeavor to try this more often. My best colors are bright and warm therefore wouldn't want to look like a bright ball of color coming at you thus I wear bright tops with dark bottoms. Hmmm, suggestions? Merci!!
THANK YOU 🕊🇺🇲💕
As a 63 inches tall woman and an American size 2 I love the look of being a tiny woman and really dont have problems finding clothes that fit.
🌿💙This was so well timed! I know which clothing to keep out for spring/summer! And..I need to get nude shoes in my life!😍💙🌿
Thank you
I'am 1.62 cm.
