Hi Marie Anne, I was mistaken for a French woman the other day, what a compliment! This happened since I started watching your videos and following your advice.
Being mistaken for French as far as style is the highest compliment. It must also be about how you carry yourself and your attitude. Well done. Keep it up.
Natalie Dawn Jackson I too was visiting Paris and the Paris guide us was waiting kept passing me by. he finally stopped to ask if I had seen any American tourists I chuckled because that was me. He thought I was a local Parisan. What a compliment
Wonderful video! So truly, this reminds me on a quote from Karl Lagerfeld. He was once asked about elegance and expensive clothes. He replied "there are women in Africa who are wrapped in simple fabrics and carry clay jugs on their heads. They walk with more elegance than you can ever imagine". Thank you Marie Anne.
It's exciting to open a closet with clothing I love, everything fits and goes with everything else, and is easily accessorized. Simplicity is not only freeing, it is exhilarating!
“Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated”~Confucius. Literally, this print hangs on my bedroom wall, next to my closet! I rarely wear more than stud earrings, either tiny diamonds or tiny gold studs, my wedding band, and my watch. That’s about it. I’ve always thought of my watch as my jewelry. Simplicity is a way of life. Why we strive to complicate matters is hard to understand. You have to be careful about whose advice on style you’re listening to. You’re always my go-to French chic lady. Justine Leconte is the only other French chic style expert I will even watch. Thank you so much! Xx
Marie-Anne Lecoeur you both do a great job of keeping us on track, Marie-Anne. Admittedly, I don’t catch every single one of Justine’s videos, but I never miss one of yours. You’re both fabulous. Xx💖
Just hearing you say "simplicity" was so calming - I think you hit the nail on the head. Wow - that makes so much sense and I think it IS the essence of the French lifestyle. The proverbial lightbulb has gone off!!! You inspired me - I just bundled 3 bags of clothing/ jewelry together for donation.
You just made me realize that simplification is very very imoprtant, not just for style, but for mental hygiene as well. Every time I lust for a new piece of clothe, I am stepping away - not closer - to closet happiness, because by acquire it, I will take away excitement for the pieces I already own, and be forced to deal with the overload, forced to discard, forced to choose later on. So for one minute of pleasure as I buy a new piece, what I am really doing is setting myself up for even more morning frustration and nothing-to-wear anxt. A new piece adds to the mental load, doesn't free it. Wow, thank you!
I was just sure you were going to say that the biggest style mistake ever is LEGGINGS! Seriously, though, your message of simplicity resonates with me. I rarely wear more than earrings, and keep my clothing very simple. Thank you for another great video!
I am one of four daughters and we were all dressed simply as children. Classic clothing, nothing gaudy, flashy or trashy was allowed. I am now 70 and still practice that advice. French chic makes perfect sense to me.
This video makes me grateful for my grandmother. When I was a little girl she always wore a beautiful brooch on her coat. She wore pearl studs in her ears and her engagement ring. I asked her why she didn't have more jewelry. Her advice: it is better to keep in a few beautiful pieces you will cherish forever or that were gifted with meaning than to buy and wear cheap costume jewelry. This made an impression upon my mind that has lasted until today.
Thank you, Marie-Anne, for reminding me of the power of simplicity!! For several years I've listened too much to the so called fashion experts. In the process, I've ended up complicating my style. I've also realized that I really do like simple clothing lines, mostly solid colored fabrics, and not much jewelry. I'm looking forward to getting back to ME and my simplicity!
As a woman who has loved clothes & accessories all my life, even as a young girl, I am finding as I get older (65 now), I am simplifying more these last several years, sometimes just wearing my fav hoop earrings I have in both gold & silver, & maybe a couple rings. When I do wear a necklace, most of the time I will skip bracelets...etc. I guess I am evolving!
I"ve only ever seen Onassis in one print dress: a yellow gingham sheath dress, and it was probably in the 1960s. There are two books you may enjoy: "Jackie Style" and "Audrey Style," and both outline the garments these lovely women wore. I'm more an Audrey, all I wear is black, white, and tan/camel/beige. :)
One of my most vivid clothes shopping memories is when I was trying on these fabulous black wool flannel dress trousers in a boutique in London (straight cut, side pockets, belt loops), and stepped out of the dressing room to see them in a bigger mirror -- I asked the proverbial question "but what would I wear with them?" A very fashionable English woman who was shopping with her daughter said "Do what French women do! Wear the black trousers with a fabulous classic white shirt tucked into the trousers and add a classic black leather belt!" I was shocked at how SIMPLE the solution was. I bought the trousers and wore them at least once a week with a wonderful blouse / shirt in a basic color (many times a silk blouse - light grey, camel, dark blue/green were some of my favorites), added black leather booties & a black leather belt, and always looked smashing. Keep It Simple!
So true Marie-Anne, I was dressing like a Christmas tree 🎄 People would tell me I was very colourful but now I think 🤔 Hmmm, maybe that wasn’t a compliment. Now I’m dressing with less jewels, neutral tones and neutral makeup and I look much more sophisticated and the compliments and stares are nicer 😊A much better vibe 💞and women are asking me for styling tips. 🇦🇺🇫🇷
I LOVE the message of this video. "Simplicity" -- so inspiring. If we apply this concept to our wardrobe and to our lives, I bet we will look and feel more chic and elegant, plus have more time and energy to do things that we love, rather than getting bogged down with unimportant distractions and clutter.
Let me simply say this. I love this video. I love your advice and commentary on style and I love simplicity. Absolutely fabulous. Merci beaucoup, Marie-Anne!
Bonjour Marie-Anne! Thank you for being the one who finally put this fabulous advice on the internet and being a mentor to all these people bombarding everyone with the wrong advice! It's like that saying from Coco Chanel which was about taking one piece of accessory off after you finished getting dressed. You and Justine are so very needed in this community.
I actually lay my outfit out the night before (otherwise I get anxious). I must admit, with COVID-19, I have gotten lazy & wear the same outfit over & over. Due to medical issues, I am at home all of the time. I go out rarely. However, when I do go out, I want to look chic, simple elegance, put together, comfortable & confident. Your video lit the match to the flame to get me going again about my style, confidence, looking & feeling good. I have not been feeling good & looking in the mirror makes it worse. No more. With your journal in hand, I am ready to simplify my style, life & ready to invite calm excitement back into my life. Sorry for the long narrative, but you have really boosted my confidence that I can be stylish again in every area of my life. Merci 😄 ❤️. Cheers 😉 🌷
Hi Marie Anne, I got some really great advice consider your hair as an accessory, no need for lots of jewelry and such. but, make your hair look as as good as it can. that does not mean a giant bouffant style with a ton of hairspray. Shiny well groomed hair always looks great 👍. Thank you for all your great videos I enjoy them so much
Marie-Anne, this was such a powerful message for me. Thank you so much! ❤️ I'm enjoying watching so many of your videos - I am 40 years old in the United States. I love the French chic style but as a mom of 7 I always end up gravitating towards jeans and a t-shirt. You're helping me get out of this rut and you are right, you're helping me on a deeper level as well. Thank you for everything you've shared! God bless you! - Marie
I am by no means a French chic lady ( German native myself ), but I love your style and what you say about keeping things simple. In the past I have sometimes felt too plain, compared to many of my over accessorized friends. As I am getting older though, I feel comfortable in simple clothing and very little jewelry.
I like the black dress in the video , they are so handy, I have several of them in my wardrobe, they can be dressed up or down, the pink in the video is my favourite color, it may not be popular but I would wear matching pink earrings, necklace, bangle , ring and handbag all in the same color , ( and I get a lot of compliments ) I usually only wear dark colours in winter , dark blue or black remind me of uniforms or work wear , although I see them worn a lot, when there younger women make a effort to look nice but something happens when they get older , they seem to lose interest in looking good right at the time when they need to be working harder on their appearance, it is so worth it!!!
I remember long ago the rule of not having more than 13 things total on your body. Including shoes, jewelry, everything. Or the rule of getting dressed then removing the last thing you added. And do agree on the multiple colors. I really can’t do more than two. Thanks for all the great advice.
Hello Marie-Anne! Got it! Simplicity! But, here is the but part. In other video you explain that when going “shopping” we should look for something different and detailed, something that “catches” our eyes, then simplicity also means different and detailed? Remember your green and very detailed green blazer?
Fabulous video Marie-Anne, I will now take myself into my boxes of cosmetic jewellery and dispose of 80% although your style is very similar to me, I definitely add too many bells to my Christmas Tree.
I have literally just bought a simple black top exactly like the one you are wearing! And i love just wearing it with white jeans and pearl studs, or black capri pants. Love your advice,it gives me the confidence to go with my instincts to not over accessorise!!
You are such an inspiration to me, thank you so much for your help in completely transforming my wardrobe over the last year ,making it so simple now. I got rid of all patterns, prints, random colours. Now I stick to black white neutrals and navy with a few splashes of red which I love. You, Jackie Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn, style gurus!
Truly excellent video Marie-Anne! You are hilarious and very entertaining. Beyond that, your simplicity message is so profound. I love how you emphasize the point. In Canada and the U.S. it is so easy to get tempted by the latest "flavour of the week" in fashion and end up with a cluttered closet. I have learned so much from you and am still in the process of curating my wardrobe. Loved today's message. I looked at the Kibbe body system and was overwhelmed by the detail!
I agree, it seems be a trend now to layer jewellery, and honestly it cheapens the whole outfit. One piece of classic jewellery, a gold watch, a simple row of pearls, or a classic pair of earrings, less is more! Neutral colours for your outfits and the only splash of colour, red! 😄
Exactly. I got rid of all my bright colored clothes, including the accessories. I kept my ivory and gray pashminas. No colors in my wardrobe except black and white, which technically aren't colors, and beige/tan.
Great advice, thank you so much!!! So true about all these complicated things. My mother has great sense of quality and style. And she grew up and was living in a Sowjet Union for decades - there was NOTHING nice you could buy. Yet just by traveling abroad a lot and looking how people look in France she developed great sense for fabrics, colors and cuts. I hope I will be able to pass these lessons to my daughter🤍 Please keep aducating us, that is very precious❤
I think simple is classy! A beautifully cut garment that hangs perfectly and fits very well. A pretty watch, a small ring and stud earings. Maybe a single strand of pearls or brouch but not both at the same time. Of course not too many colours all at once either. My mother taught me this and my grandmother taught my mother. I've never forgotten this advice.
Good afternoon, Marie. I agree with you about keeping the style simple, the makeup natural. I have so many shoes, purses scarves, etc.,etc.,etc.! I cannot possibly wear/use them all in a month's time. I've given so much away( to family members) I have so much more space.! I thank you dearly, mon amie.. avoir une bonne après midi.
Absolutely 100% accurate! I struggle with second guessing my style & color choices. I know I love simplicity, elegance, and have a small hourglass frame. I've struggled with thinking I'm "not suppose" to wear this or that color or style based on my Kibbe or color type. It's undermined my confidence completely.
I have been following your videos with great interest and have been carefully building up my French chic wardrobe. Today I tried shopping following your advice and bought two beautiful tops from Jaegar in the sale, one is a marinier! So stylish, so simple and yes they fit perfectly with my French chic clothes. Thank you so much I feel so much more confident.
I'm learning so much about style from you! I was just so taken by the beautiful French women and their effortless style on my recent trip to France. You say that French style is all about simplicity but I really believe there is an art to it. I really appreciate you sharing your secrets with us. I would love you to make a future video all about mixing and matching colours, what works and what doesn't. I would also love to see how you do your makeup! xx
@@MarieAnneLecoeur Aww thank you so much! Some great advice there. A whole E-course on this topic, how amazing! I will have to check it out. I usually watch all your videos but must have missed your no makeup, makeup look. I'm gonna watch it now. 😘😘
Marie Anne, great video, for me I am an old gal full of confidence and wisdom. Between you and me I dress accordingly to how I feel that day. Sometimes simple and sometimes like the museum of Versailles, totally ornate. lol. Anyway keep bringing us these educational videos, this information in valuable mainly to the young audience. Thankyou.
Voilà, simplicity is so elegant. So refreshing not to watch a buy buy buy video. Lovely to know we are enough. Thanks for another inspiring video empowering women 😘
Key words... Simple, elegant, classic. You say it all the time and that is what I go by. I was lucky to have around me, as I was growing-up, women who taught me that ¨less is more¨. I was very lucky!!! Joyeux Noël et Bonne Année, Marie-Anne.
Best advice I have ever heard. Unfortunately, a lot of people are actually trying to sell products and talk us into buying too much of everything! The more we buy, the more $ they make. I have stopped watching a lot of channels who are giving advice to purchase things. Makeup, skincare, clothing, etc. After awhile, their videos seem like one long commercial. I truly appreciate your honesty and great advice. Thanks!
Thank you! I have been overwhelmed with some body typing and energy typing, but simple really suits me. I love that you remind us that clothing should compliment us. It’s important to let our face and personality get the attention, and not really our clothing. I really appreciated this reminder.
These video thought me something: *Always, fashion means Dress chic; dress comfortably; and dress modestly.* Merci pour les conseilles et bien joué madame Marie Anne.😊
I wear good understated jewelry. I don't over accessorize. I stopped listening to complicated style advice years ago. It was so stressful. I don't listen to them anymore. My style is classic and that's not complicated. I listen to you, because you give me the kind of style advice that is valuable. Thank you for being here for us. xo~linda
Great video! I dress pretty simply, with not much jewelry other than rings, and small earrings and a plain leather strap watch. I have been asked many times if I am French. I'm 100% Irish, but from America. I always take it as a great compliment when people assume I am French,..the je ne sais quoi is very admired here.
Marie-Anne - My Mother who resembled you quite a bit was very stylish. She always taught me that less is more and did dress very well but never overdressed. She loved suits, simple jewellery, lots of different shoes and light makeup but always red lipstick. She had beautiful white skin like yours and gorgeous dark hair - short and always styled simply. Love your videos! Thank you so much!
This made me laugh Marie-Anne, you are so right. I get tempted myself to put all the nice things on at once, because I like them & have to force myself to remove several before leaving the house. Christmas tree is right!
Great video! I just simplified my home library and it felt great. I cleaned out my closet last year, I can't wait to do it again! I'm saving this video to watch again and again. How do I get to those e-courses? Thank you!
Marie-Anne, I couldn't agree more. Both life, and wardrobe, benefit hugely from simplicity. It also frees up time to enjoy living. Merci beaucoup pour le "simple chic" cadeau. :)
I laughed out loud when you described a typical woman getting dressed! It is so funny and so true. Not only is your simple style more attractive, it makes getting dressed much easier. Thank you!
Dear Marie-Anne Leceour, do you know what. I like your advice so much. Each day I leave house men look at me (at least one a day) I am visible just by dressing simply. Yesterday I bought me a red lipstick and I‘m going to wear it. It‘s a long time ago since I wore such color. Thank you so much and tell us more about French style. Although I am Austrian do I like your habits. Most of us run after the latest fashion and even some of us don‘t care about appearance.
The patterns at school, in our dress making classes (which were the norm in the seventies) were called simplicity. We used Bernina or singer sewing machines. Mum made the dresses and skirts, knitted our cardigans.
Love this and agree 100%. I often feel like I can't wear prints because I have naturally curly hair. I honestly feel like textured/curly hair is an accessory. Is that crazy? I only wear minimal, small jewelry pieces. In fact, I have very little jewelry in general. Less is more. Love your videos and content. It's a pleasure to watch you while I enjoy a glass of red wine. Cheers!
Hello Marie-Anne. I love how you take the time to answer the ladies who make comments. You seem a very natural, genuine person. I agree totally with simplicity and I would add another word ... elegance.
This is just what I needed! I've done so many online style courses that recommended larger jewelry for my hourglass shape. Unfortunately I don't care much for accessories in general and statement necklaces specifically. I'm very much a classic watch and understated jewelry kind of woman. Since I've been watching your videos I've focused on quality over quantity and have put together a list of classic pieces I need to add to my wardrobe - in a limited color palette of course!
Hi Marie-Ann. Thank you for putting simplicity into perspective. You clearly outlined what it entails. Simplicity can be taken to so many levels of one's life and helps to focus on the important elements of fashion, food or whatever you are doing. Can be a valuable tool to organize and manage one's life. True that we get confused due to information overload. Simplicity is the 1st step to dress timeless and chic. Great advice and nicely done. Thank you.
Love all of your videos but this one is my favorite because it translates not only to one’s wardrobe, but to all aspects of life. You’re such a wise lady!!!
You said it, Marie! I never overaccessorize or wear over the top hairstyles. When I go to Europe I am never spotted as an American. No offense to Americans, but I grew up in an area where the women dress like the cast of “The Sopranos “. I never wanted to look that way. I think I was wise to listen to my instincts. Thank you for your advice, I really enjoy your videos.
So Good, Marianne, I'm Scottish. ...always felt this way. My partner of 21 years, and a wee bit older than me has always emphasised this. Keep it simple. It's ALL you need. You'll shine, effortlessly. Good quality (or what you can afford..charity shops mostly better quality than the rubbish in town) will always look good. As we say here , Good 'Shmutter'. Thank you x
Hi Marie Anne, I was mistaken for a French woman the other day, what a compliment! This happened since I started watching your videos and following your advice.
@Ingrid Weiner I was wearing a blue shirt-dress and some pale pink plimsolls. Very simple!
Ha ha! I am Australian, and a taxi driver in Buenos Aires asked my friend (Chilean): Is she French? I found it very amusing.

Beverley Roberts Agree 🌹❤️️
I hope I will be able to pass these lessons to my daughter🤍
Please keep aducating us, that is very precious❤
Exactly! For the rest of the week I'm going to wear simple, classic styles and see what happens!!! I'll let you know!!
I love the French style. Simple, chic and elegant. Minimalism is a must in both style, make up and life in general. Less is more. 😊
You’re right! Thank you!
Couldn’t agree more!!
We simply say less is more. Such good advice Marie-Anne.
Thank You, MarieAnne!!! This is so true!!!
Love this video. Love your passion. Let others see
YOU. Don’t hide behind clutter.
Fantastic and most useful advice!! Bravo!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
SUPERB Video! Thank you
Adore every video, thank you!
Thankyou.
Superb Marie Ann, Totally agree, should be taught from an early age.

Excellent video thank you!!!
Excellent video, excellent advice, easy to follow and understand. Thank you!
I just love your style advice. You look so beautiful. Merci.
Great advice! Keep it simple and wear classics. I love your top.
This is a very good bit of advice!!!
Your hair looks really good in this video. I am naturally quite simple in my tastes, so it's good to hear someone support that!
Wonderful advice
Very meaningful. A lot to think upon. This is great information.
Thank you 😘 such sound advice
love your simple chic style. I love now knowing my hair doesn't have to be perfect and looks better not perfect.
I laughed out loud when you described a typical woman getting dressed! It is so funny and so true. Not only is your simple style more attractive, it makes getting dressed much easier. Thank you!
'simplicity is the ultimate sophistication', as Da Vinci said… inspirational video as always, love your channel
I enjoy your advice immensely. One can’t go wrong with Coco.
This is really good. Have saved on my favourites so when I'm having a bad day I'll listen to this and shall help boost my confidence.
Your hair style is very flattering!
Cheers!
Bravo! Simplicity is genius.
Very helpful video...thank you for sharing!!!xxx
Your advice is invaluable.
Hello Marie-Anne. I love how you take the time to answer the ladies who make comments. You seem a very natural, genuine person. I agree totally with simplicity and I would add another word ... elegance.
Understated style 👍 - yes!
😘
This is just what I needed! I've done so many online style courses that recommended larger jewelry for my hourglass shape. Unfortunately I don't care much for accessories in general and statement necklaces specifically. I'm very much a classic watch and understated jewelry kind of woman. Since I've been watching your videos I've focused on quality over quantity and have put together a list of classic pieces I need to add to my wardrobe - in a limited color palette of course!
Wonderfully said Marie-Anne. Simplicity is bliss.
Simply the best advice, thank you ❤️
Yes, I love ❤️ this. Thank you for making these videos 😊
Less is more. I have started simplifying and taking things off before going out the door and try to have three colours. Thanks Marie-Anne.
Wonderful video, thanks so much ❤️💜💙🧡💚
Marie-Anne Lecoeur I try to but you have made it even more clear, tx again 😁
So Good, Marianne, I'm Scottish.
...always felt this way. My partner of 21 years, and a wee bit older than me has always emphasised this. Keep it simple. It's ALL you need. You'll shine, effortlessly.
Good quality (or what you can afford..charity shops mostly better quality than the rubbish in town) will always look good. As we say here , Good 'Shmutter'.
Thank you x
