I agree completely about the bras, florals and colors. I tend to wear a lot of neutrals, but as a scarf addict, I always brighten or lighten by my face AND scarves really stretch your wardrobe options! As my hair thins, I’ve gone shorter and love it! Thank you for all your practical advice! I love when you sprinkle “les mots français” in your videos!

I love the 1940s look. Even during war time women looked chic and dressed up to go out. Even with rations they made the best of themselves and their clothes. Lipstick was not rationed - all to keep up morale. I also like today, the idea to dress to suit body shape and wearing colours that suit complection. Love the videos!

During the Depression, people had no money, but they always dressed as if they did. They wore their best suit; they wore their best dress - anything to make them look richer. Today, people have more money than ever, but they dress as if they have none. I live close to the largest shopping mall in the USA, and when I walk there for exercise - all four miles - I am so disappointed at how 95 percent of the shoppers dress. We have seemed to have gotten a bit lazy when dressing. Such a shame.

Thanks Marie-Anne. I agree with your style mistakes over 50. Those "little house on the prairie" high necked flouncy floral dresses are horrible probably for any age! Color is a tricky one. I've always loved colour, but the past couple of years have worn less colour and more neutrals because it seems more chic. I'm changing my mind on that now. I also think midi skirts with flat shoes can look frumpy at our age, with the exception of sandals in the summer. The basics of good skin care, good posture, and fitness go a long way. When you are fit, you are more agile, upright and youthful looking. I honestly think exercise is the magic bullet even before fashion.

I agree. Fashion was always coming back again but with just some details. This time the 80s are here without any change. Some photos of models look like from old photo albums. I used to love wearing florals when I was young but at my age,I'm sixty two,I've found them to be very aging and so I stopped wearing florals altogether.I think that one reason florals are aging is that flowers are pretty and so next to the aging skin there is this stark contrast between the floral pattern and mature skin which causes the signs of aging to be even more noticable. When there is harmony whether it is a pattern or a color that suits our skin tone the result is a younger look.I started to wear stripes and your so right when you say that stripes are fresh and young looking because I actually do feel that I look a bit younger when I'm wearing stripes.

I agree with your aging style mistakes . I have seen some floral patterns in tops and dresses that remind me. of drapes that were popular 50 years and more ago . We can get into a rut of wearing very dark colours all the time . Past 50 women walk a fine line between being current with our style and choosing fashions that are too young for us . A proper fitting bra and good posture can take 10 years off .

I’m glad you discussed the ‘new’ trend for floaty, floral dresses - I still have a few from the 80’s in my wardrobe! 😉 I have said to myself that even the updated version of these would age me even though in other ways they suit by body type etc. My hunch was correct thank you. If I do wear this style again I will go for a small geometric print maybe in navy and white.

I respectfully agree to disagree. It’s probably good advice for ladies who disliked or weren’t flattered by florals when they were younger. I have a very “romantic” personal style. I love (and look attractive) wearing floral prints, flowing fabrics that drape and “flow” along the body, ribbons, lace, ruffles, vintage styles. Most stripes, polka dots, and plaids look very “jarring” on me. I acknowledge my style type isn’t for everyone. Fashion rules are made to be bent.
LOL...I’m actually wearing a shirt with vertical pinstripes AND floral print right now!

    • @rbffbvs
      @rbffbvs 4 роки тому

@@amasion2882 You are correct in saying that florals work well for some ladies. I am not one of them.I am sixty-seven years old, and a former Hippie. I wore plenty of flowing dresses and broom skirts in my younger days. I find that I now need things to be more tailored, and less busy now. I am happy you have found a style that flatters you so well. I like to see women who look romantic and ethereal, but I cannot pull that off..

More excellent advice that helps to keep this 70 year old chic and elegant. A well fitting underwire bra makes me look youthful and lifted. I adore French lingerie. And color, I am transitioning from black near my face to flattering pastels. Scarves are difficult to wear in my hot climate but it is the cooler winter season and will give it a try. And the lovely floral dresses, definitely not for me. I ordered one online and it was appalling when I put it on. The only prints in my wardrobe are, thanks to you, Marie-Anne, stripes and I always feel good in them. I never could have imagined without your suggestions. I now purchase half the clothes I used to and have so much more to wear with my capsule wardrobe. Your advice has been invaluable.

Like you have shown in previous videos when it comes to makeup apply it to refresh your face. Great information all the time in your channel Marie-Anne Lecoeur, thank you!

I wore some lovely Cacharel floral shirts in cotton voile in the Seventies. They were very refined colours and designs and they all went beautifully with a very dark navy, heavy gabardine fold-over skirt. But in those days l wore size 36/38 ! Navy sling backs with kitten heels and ultrafine pale tights completed the look...😊

Joan Rivers used to do a bit called “Knockers Up” as part of her show. Not at all chic, or even ladylike, but accurate for the over-50 crowd!
I’m thankful that scarves are still a favored accessory. I have tried wearing lighter colors, but am so uncomfortable in them that I end up back in black, charcoal, or navy. I make it up with a really nice scarf in a lighter, flattering color.

I agree with you about floral dresses aging a woman. The trick though is to find just the right one, and I didn't think I'd ever find it-but I did. I bought one floral midi dress for summer recently and it is simply beautiful. It is a cream coloured chiffon type dress with lightly scattered pastel flowers. It has spaghetti straps, a cinched in waist, and then flows beautifully from the hips. I think a quiet, subdued floral dress that flatters a person's figure can actually add a very youthful and feminine air. I guess it really helps if your body is in good shape. For me, the carefree days of eating whatever and however much I wanted and still weigh only 98 pounds are over. I now have to work at taking care of myself and keeping my body at a slim 110 pounds. It's definitely worth the effort. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

I think what might age us about the 70's dresses is that we could have worn them the first time around, so maybe it looks less intentionally retro on us old ladies. Maybe it just looks like we held on to our clothes from the 70's!

Ok, you’ve opened my eyes. I’m reevaluating. I’m 58 and have lost weight, so my wardrobe has needed refreshing to my new size. I’ll try to objectively look at my midi floral boho dresses without emotion to see what works best for me. There are times I do feel some of these dresses don’t feel right on me, too young. Others I really feel good in and enjoy wearing. Thank you for helping me think objectively about how I dress. I am choosing more navy over black. I’m a fair redhead, and blues are much more flattering than blacks and most grays.

Excellent video Marie Anne, may be one of my favorites. I believe that investing in a good bra is one of the most important things a woman can do for herself and if a woman is a D cup or more, she simply cannot buy a cheap bra. In the USA herroom .com has an excellent selection of bras and terrific bra fitting guide. As for color, I write often for a color analysis group and one of the most important things a woman must know is if she looks better in bright , clear chroma colors or muted colors. Muted colors will drain a person who needs brighter colors and bright clear colors will shout on a person who needs colors to be a little toned down. I have found that as I grew out my hair to it's natural blonde grey color, I need to go slightly lighter in colors and make up. As for those seventies styles, they never looked that hot on me back then so I don't need a revival.

I also couldn’t agree more about the 70s style florals too, I loved wearing them the first time round (in the 70s!j and suited them then. In those days we called them ‘granny dresses’ and that says it all doesn’t it? 👵🏻

I totally agree here, Marie Anne. No matter how well cur or expensive you top is, if you don't have a good bra underneath, it's a waste.I think it's better to spend the money on the bra . Also I work with color so I know how unflattering colors can make someone look like they blend into the walls. And the loose flowing clothes, while comfortable , unless someone is tall and skinny , has very elongated arms and legs and little bust look like tent city. They murder a curvy hourglass shape. This is one of your most helpful videos. Thank you for helping so many women. I've learned so much from your videos.

They wear what young women does and they look 10 or 20 years younger. I think it depends on the type. If a woman suits very long hair and if she is a dreamy, romantic type, romantic, young dresses looks very feminin , elegant and soft on her.

I am not a big woman (124 lbs, 34C) but comfortable bras that also give support is important especially as you age. Underwire is intolerable for me. I finally found some Chinese-made bras that are push up and they do a wonderful job of pushing in from the sides too with NO wire or excess padding. Much more comfy and much more support than any American-made bra I could find. I tend to wear scarves more now for color, especially since letting my hair go silver! But, I also use the bright white collars you can add to v-neck and round neck tops/sweaters. A Black or Navy top is ok as long as I have a white collar. I find dresses almost impossible to wear only because the style is to wear no stockings. Sorry but my legs have flaws and my skin too pale and I need stockings but realize that would REALLY make me look old.
