What a great idea - 3 colours a season - how simplifying- I may have heard that before but watching you do it made it really sink in. I am now inspired!
What I just did upon taking all my shorts out, was tried them on to see if they still fit. I also did this with all my other pants and questionable tops. I put the ones that did not fit in a box and took it to the shelter. Next, I ironed and put them on all black hangers. Next, I put outfits next to each other. Next, I bought more sandals and shoes I needed in the needed colors. I'm ready for summer. I stowed away all the hot sweaters, hats, etc.
Marie-Anne, this is the BEST wardrobe organisation video I have ever seen. I have used a professional wardrobe consultant in the past...but she never explained or demonstrated as succinctly you have in this gem of a video. Thank you so much!
I have so many neutral colored clothes (mostly gray and black) that I always know to start with that. Then I choose one thing with pattern or color. Only one thing! And my colors are generally muted as well so I don't have too many crazy colors and prints to work with. This makes it easy for me.
I would not get rid of clothes but store them. But I like the idea of a seasonal capsule wardrobe that can be changed four times a year and selected from the larger supply. That way I would not be bored!
I've decided to do that, too. That's what the 33/3 capsule wardrobe is all about, although for me, even 33 pieces at a time are too much. But the idea is intriguing, especially since I've realized in the last couple of years that my color preferences are sharply seasonal. I suppose that has to do with the climate where I live; the four seasons are very distinct, with summer and winter being on the extreme ends of the spectrum for the US.
Wow. So simple and so fast. Love how you "pruned" that rail on colours alone Marie-Anne! This would be a perfect way to create a seasonal capsule wardrobe, just selecting pieces of 3 coordinating colours to wear for a few weeks or months, then swap them out for other colour combinations as the seasons change. I was whizzing through outfit combinations on that selection. Very versatile 😘💕
I love colours so I end up with too many clothes, because I buy items that I like in several colours! I have to learn to stop doing that and keep to a simpler colour scheme.
O dear... my closet is exactly like your bordel example. 🤣 I'll sort it out today. Thanks for the tips: simple and fast. After watching your de-cluttering videos I actually gave away 25 kg of stuff I no longer need!!! It was quite a shock 😲 but I did it! Merci beaucoup !!
Thank you so much Mari-anne. Since I started following you, I'm making use of my closet more than before with the same items I already own, also I started creating more relaxed, simple yet elegant outfits and that's what I'm embracing about the french style. Much love :*
Thank you for this video. I've worked in high end Retail for decades now and I learned a long time ago to set my closet up similar to a floor set. Like items together, by season and light to dark. It's very helpful, so it's great to see you highlighting this to help others. 😊
I like your approach to this! It also has the benefit of not making a mess while you are sorting out your closet. If you take everything out of the closet and get called away, you may feel discouraged by the big mess. But by removing a few things at a time, even if you have to stop part way through, you are making improvements. You can come back and finish later if you get interrupted.
I really needed the advice to go quickly, I spend way too much time agonizing over a decision. I’m going to apply this to other areas of my life! Merci beaucoup !
Omg....I will apply this method in 2 weeks when I retire from my office job....lots of pieces I will not need....merci Marie Anne pour ces bons conseils🤗❤
Don’t purge too much at first, store things for a while if you can. I’m still mourning some things I purged upon retirement, take it slow, except for things you never really loved.🙂
I always wear a beautiful pair of perfectly fitting black pants and a black blouse or cashmere sweater with small earrings, wedding ring of course and a matching ring or charm bracelet. Just one heart on their chain with mine and husbands initials. Maybe a scarf in winter. Black kitten heel shoes with black silk knee high socks. Winter coat. Spring coat, a hat. I will always have this ready to go
@@jackiec9285 You can do the same thing with any neutral color. I've seen it done with pale gray, navy, beige, winter white, and midtone gray. Charcoal gray would also work. I've done it myself in pale gray, khaki, and navy at different times. I had matching shoes for my color of the season. My color this year is black, but like I said, it doesn't have to be black to be elegant and easy.
I love your videos. I agree, being organized and editing are the key to putting outfits together. I find it easier if I do a changeover every season (4), then work with a smaller “capsule” for just the current season. Right now, I’m doing my huge winter sweater washing, drying and storing, the biggest wardrobe task of the year. There’s no point in having them out as it warms up.
I've been color-coding my wardrobe for quite some time. It's so liberating. I organize light to dark colors, then sleeve length. Since I live in the Desert, I rarely wear sweaters, so they are tucked away in a drawer til needed. I recently did a "pruning" and kept only the items I REALLY wear. Nothing wrong with the discards (still fit & were stylish) but I just wanted a cleaner selection when I looked into my closet. Also, because of watching you and other style experts, I realized that sometimes I buy things I like but are not necessarily what flatters my shape. Now I can see the few items I need to complete my look. I'm so happy I discovered you!
Well...... I did it.....not a lot left in the wardrobe lol !........but enough to be going on with . At least I can see what I have now.....thanks again Marie-Anne. God bless Gilly
Marie-Anne, I just watched this excellent video and your advice worked. I was getting dressed for church and decided I had nothing to wear. I divided my clothes as you suggested and voila I was able to put together a great outfit with pieces I had never worn together before. Blouse, pants, shoes and trench coat. I was able to attend church with a sense of confidence, and dare I say feeling chic. Thank you for all of your wonderful advice. It has helped me build styling confidence. Merci.
Bonjour Marie-Anne! What a difference an organized closet makes! Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom with us. I bought your red book. I can't wait to receive it the mail so I can study it. I love learning from you! Love you! 🥰 XOXO
Amazingly, its been over a year since I organised my wardrobe in this style. Although it has been changed for the seasons and my preferences it is still tidy and a real pleasure to use. This styling of my wardrobe has also changed my own daily style of dressing. I had forgotten about that "I have nothing to wear" feeling. Your simplicity of setting up a wardrobe seems obvious and second nature to me now, but it wasn't like that before lol.
I take some time to reorganize my clothes a few times per season, but I find it hard to discard things. Now I undersrand why I should take things out of my wardrobe. Thank you Marie-Anne, you made it vidually clear why that is so important. An organized wardrobe saves time. I find myself looking for things over and over again and not finding what I was looking for. And it is much easier to coordinate with the rest if it is neatly stored. My t-shirts and camisoles are in baskets, Marie-Kondo style.
Since watching your videos where you show clearly how you really enjoy your clothes, I have gotten rid of so many things that weren't me anymore or maybe never were. I donated the best and sent any shabby old stuff to textile recycling. It freed up enormous closet space and felt great to do. Now I need to reorganize with colors! Merci! 💕
I love that black and bottle green combination you are wearing. Oh! It's green on green...an almost black green cardigan...beautiful. I could use those colors.
My seasonal spring colors are the same . I have decided to not toss the clothes that don’t fit but I still love but will put away to wait and see . I have plenty of room but not plenty of money . Menopause has made it difficult for me to keep my weight the same . I also have a problem with my muscle tone . Trying to stay positive . Can’t wait to start wearing my pinks . Thank you for all your encouragement .
Brilliant idea...I'm going to do this tomorrow...I thought i was doing well by putting the colours together...all blue tops...all white tops etc....I just realised that at the moment I can't wear half of it because of my weight gain...so I will remove everything I cannot wear and put it away until i can wear it....I am doing well with my weight loss having lost a stone in the last month...in a few months I will have a whole new wardrobe to experiment with !! Many thanks for this excellent idea Marie -Anne. God bless Gilly
I had been setting up my closet grouping by color. I will now separate by style and color! Short sleeve, then button down shirts etc.! Can't wait to get started tomorrow!
Thanks heaps. I took the advice of organizing colours. I didnt have to take many things out. I know my shape and colours. I enjoy choosing pieces to wear now. Wow, what a difference in confidence.
You always have the best advice! Thank you. My go to when I don’t know what to wear is a chic black paints and a white linen top. And then I have a camel color leather jacket.done.
I love all colors expect pink, maybe some pink accessories but I categorize my closet , shirt with shirt, pants with pants etc. I Love thw video. I am trying think what I would love to wear, I want thw white pants ok and then I think what I would like to wear on the top.
I love the term "pruned" because it is so much less intimidating than "OK, let's to a big declutter!"! Your questions that we should 'ask' our clothes are so helpful because to me, saying "I don't wear brown anymore" is more helpful than "Get rid of this. Get rid of that" As well, throwing your clothes on top of each other and jamming the hanging rail is so confusing; thanks for addressing this. I am encouraged to keep things tidy. This video reminds of having a good friend over (the kind of friend who is honest and no-nonsense! ) and spending serious time making your closet make sense. This is a great compliment to the body shape e-course by the the way. I am excited to share it!!
This video is one of your best, Marie-Anne! Merci! Very informative, empowering and chocked full of expert advice in such a short presentation. I disagree with one point, however. We still need you! ❤️
What a brilliant idea! I'll start by removing all the browns (it's the colour which doesn't look good on me and I also hate it) and I'll work from there on. Thank you so much!
I am not in this situation, because I organized my wardrobe recently, which is a capsule wardrobe now (right word?) and to be honest... YOU had helped me to do so. :-))... :-)) thank you!
Good idea pruning the wardrobe. I thought I did it several times....but...honestly...not REALLY. After having changed my life and embrace my "new" wonderfully white hair and Bob, pruning is NESSESARY for me
I worked in the women's clothing in a department store after I graduated from high school. The manager of the department taught us to hang the dresses, tops, slacks, etc. by size, then color, then style, then texture. She also had us make sure buttons, zippers, and belts were fastened and in place on the rack, especially after a sale and the racks were askew. I have a tendency to go for pinks/corals, that family of colors. A few years ago I looked in my closet and most items were from the pink/coral family. I decided to shop for other colors that can compliment my complexion. It took me a few shopping errands to stop going for the pinks. I now have a nice variety of colors, even a red linen jacket that I was complimented on when I wore it. I also decide the night before what I will wear the next day and hang it out on my closet door ready to get to it the next morning.
Before, i had a closet too small for me and I didn't know wjat i had and it was so difficult to see what i had. Now that I have a room that i turned into a dressing, i never had so much fun (and no problem) to get dress in the morning!! ;-) Seeing your video made me SEE why :-) Merci Madame Lecoeur!! ❤
My weight gain has been such a factor with my impulse shopping and wardrobe "brain freeze". I buy things I don't really love just because they fit and cover up my insecure spots, but when it comes to time to get dressed, I hate the way everything looks on me and think I just need to shop more. But now I know it's not the answer. This video is great and I know I need to be healthier and more conscious about everything I own and buy in the future. Thank you 🤗
Thank you for your informational video. I’ve tried a new way to organize my closet. I wish I could remember where I saw it. All my life I’ve organized my clothes by type and then color. Now, I organize by color and then type within the color. So, all white things go together etc. I’ve been doing this for a month so far so good. I love how the closet has flow from all light to all dark. I’ve always done this with my sweater drawers but never my hanging clothes.
What fun, you and I organise essentially the same way! My mantra is "Least and Lightest on the Left". That way the rail runs from sleeveless tops on the left to jackets on the right, and within each category white on the left to black on the right, and cotton to the left of wool. As you say, makes it so much easier both to find what I want, and know where to put things away. I'm not as ruthless as you about limiting my colour palette overall, but this allows me to be ruthless about keeping any given outfit coordinated (so necessary for a shorty like me).
Great video Marie-Anne! I like this way of pruning the wardrobe. I usually keep my closet really organized, I have a colour palette that I stick to, I do not shop outside of my colour palette. I must say your suggestion of keeping a style journal really helped me.
Exceptionally well presented! Your goal was inspiration, and it’s always gratifying to know that a goal has been reached or exceeded. For me, thanks to you, that your inspiration produced a productive effort to very quickly tidy my closet! Thank you for the inspirational nudge!
Dear Marianne, perfect how easy your path to an organized closet becomes. I have a harder time to explain how I organize my closet. For years I pick for example a beautiful scarf and choose the pieces of my wardrobe by the colors matching the scarf. And abandone the other colors "to rest in peace". And when I get bored of the colors, I switch to another set of colors. Depending on season as well, because some colors are shouting "spring" or "summer". I really enjoy variety, but also don't want to be overwhelmed with too many choices. And also, if I settle for three to five colors, all the accessories are easier to match, as there are matching shoes, bags, overcoats... :-))
I love what you prepared Marie-Anne! Right now, since I have my vaccinations I am going to water class, art class, the grocery store, church and not much more. Please prepare a video or recommend one of yours where you prepared the same approach to 100% casual clothes. Just so I can decide on how many of each item to have. It gets really hot in Oklahoma so we wear shorts in summer. I think I have purchased too many items and now feel guilty doing a closet purge.
I love this! Such a quick and easy way to get organized. I like too that you just put things aside...it’s good so you can take time later to decide to keep or get rid of, if it’s sentimental or you really may need the item. You’ve helped me tremendously going from a huge walk-in to a seasonal wardrobe, with other seasons stored away on garment racks. I see now I can just start removing by color-i know I look awful in cool colors, so those are going, along with anything that needs to be depilled or looks tatty and worn out. I really don’t have a lot left to remove, and I’m looking forward to adding in new things in colors/fabrics I actually like. Merci, Marie-Anne 💐

Thank you. My clothes are organized by color, season and casual or formal. But not by what I actually wear. I've got some pruning to do!
This is a wonderful video...and will really helps my clothes to be easy to put together...thank youxxx
I’m getting into my closet NOW. Thank you.
Thank you 🤗
Such a succinct decluttering video - I loved this.
Merci Carole x
I’ve done the rainbow thing but this actually makes sense! I will have a go later!
@@MarieAnneLecoeur I agree, I had never thought of organizing this way. It was a light bulb moment for me.
I used to have such a wardrobe Marie Anne, but from the time I follow your videos, I have created a beautiful capsule wardrobe!
A very helpful and practical video. Thank you.
I love this, thank you! Just the title made me want to click the like button, & then it was wonderful 💞
I LOVE that shade of green you're wearing! I can never find anything in quite that shade. Its always too yellow/gold, or too blue tinted.
You are the best ❤️. Thank you for tips and tricks.
A wonderful video Marie -Anne.. so simple but life changing.x
Marie-Anne that was brilliant! Thank you for making the process so simple and easy.
Thank you so much for this video, Marie-Anne!! This is exactly my problem and i will now try your way to organize my wardrobe 🫶🏻😘
Exceptionally well presented! Your goal was inspiration, and it’s always gratifying to know that a goal has been reached or exceeded. For me, thanks to you, that your inspiration produced a productive effort to very quickly tidy my closet! Thank you for the inspirational nudge!
So I love the blouse sweater combination.... did I miss the links to what your are wearing?
Great tips I'm going to start working on my closet.
