Excellent video. My brother-in-law developed tracheal cancer because of this condition. He took loads of antacids for 20 years to fight his acid reflux, and this habit actually caused the cancer. The surgery was devastating. He became a human science project. He survived, but the cost was immense. He needed this info from Dr Berg, who is doing more good with his You Tube channel than most doctors do in their entire careers. Thanks, doc!

I suffered from GERD for over 25 years when I went through a divorce and I've been on acid reflux medication for that long. Last July 2018 I started to watch Dr Berg and started IF then OMAD and have lost 83 pounds so far. I was still on Nexium and was afraid to try acv; but when Dr Berg said to try it and if your stomach hurts that means you have an ulcer I decided to give it a try. I started with one tablespoon of avc in 8oz of water in the morning in the first week and progress to 2 tablespoon of avc in the morning , after my noon omad meal and before bedtime. I haven't taken any acid reflux medication in six weeks and my digestion is so much better. Thank you so much Dr Berg for the great free service you're doing for this community.

I had GERD for years. I had a laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication (GERD surgery) with a hiatal hernia repair 12 years ago. I had developed Barrett’s esophaguses (precancerous changes to the esophaguses from the reflux) & surgery is one of the only ways to correct it. When my weight changed I started having reflux symptoms again but then I finally discovered Keto. Just the change in my diet has improved my stomach so that now I don’t have to worry about it anymore!

You're amazing doctor. Why is that doctors doctors don't explain this? I find that when I'm told the "what" as in what is causing the condition I'm able to then work on the "how" how to fix or make better. Doctors immediately put you on medication and rush you out of their offices. Your video has so much information and your process of how you figure medical conditions is brilliant and yet its easy to follow. Thank you.

I was diagnosed with GERD 20 years ago. Tried meds on and off with no real relief. Was recently taking tums every night to be able to lay down to sleep. Had a lot of reflux during the day. Started lemon and ACV water 7 weeks ago and the reflux is 98% gone. I mostly notice it after I have carbs, and even then it’s so minor I hardly notice it. I also started doing intermittent fasting (not great at it yet but do get around 14 hours of fasting each day) and eating more keto meals. I don’t do full keto, but the changes in most of my eating has greatly improved so many things. Drinking the ACV in the water was rough at first because I hate the smell, but now I hardly notice it and actually crave the drink. Dr. Berg is my hero ♥️♥️

Thanks! Very interesting video. I can see how everything you said just proved to me what I already thought to be true. My mom got gastric bypass surgery 17 years ago and never took multivitamins or supplements and ended up developing the beginnings of Alzheimer’s and dementia. Eight years later, she was unable to swallow for some reason and she kept losing weight. 30 pounds in one month and she didn’t need to lose weight at all. This was in May 2024. After an endoscopy and biopsy, it was discovered she had stage 3 esophageal cancer, likely from GERD she didn’t know she had. She quickly got surgery for a j-tube insertion for nutrition and started chemo and radiation. Since she was 78 and not with much will to do much of anything natural, I supported my parents decision. I took care of her day and night as my husband and I live with them. It was a 5 1/2 week, daily radiation and weekly chemo plan program. She made it through 3 full weeks then died on us in the morning from heart failure. Looking back, she didn’t suffer and died rather quickly. I noticed sharp changes within a 4-day period but blamed the chemo because we really didn’t know what to expect. I think her lungs filled up with fluid and her heart just failed as she coughed up a small amount of blood then died 2 hrs later. From diagnosis to death, she lasted 3 months. I kinda expected her not to make it through the program, but sometimes, there just is not better option. I’ve been watching your videos since 2018 and each and every one is so interesting! Thanks!!

But then I looked up information on the proton inhibitors and found out that there is some nasty rebound when you want to come off these inhibitors. Very well put. I am a retired physician (MD) and have had these problems recently, and actually had to go to ER with severe chest pain and intrascapuIar pain . Diagnosis was made of esophagitis. Have been placed on PPI's , which I do NOT want to take long term for obvious reasons. I had been giving myself Apple Cider Vinegar daily, but seemed to develop a sour stomach from it after a couple of months, so I stopped it. That is when things actually became worse! to the point where one night I had to go to ER with the severe pain. Your points are well taken. I will try going back on ACV at a lower dose for a while to see how I do. I do want to make sure the esophagitis is settled though as ACV will burn a raw esophagus. Thanks you for your presentation.

My sister-in-law, now 70 years old, began gobbling Tums as a youngster. Baking soda was used, as well. When 'the purple pill' became a thing, she took that, too. She STILL suffers! Many years ago, I read that MOST cases of these conditions were related to too little stomach acid, NOT too much. Doctors simply don't test a patient's stomach acid levels before prescribing medications. Believe me, I tried to tell her these things, to no avail. I keep saying that I'm giving up on trying to help people. Unfortunately, I tend to keep opening my mouth and am rebuked for my efforts. Thankfully, I do have a few like minded friends that I can safely share these topics with. Of course, there are many people here on this channel that I feel free to discuss these things with. I took Zantac for five years and have been taking omeprazole since. One thing I have noticed is if I eat products high in preservatives such as flavored chips, certain off the shelf cookies anything really from the snack aisle that has artificial flavor I get unbelievable heartburn almost immediately. I’ve even trained my body to not turn over on my right side until at least 3 o’clock in the morning while sleeping. Any time before that instant acid reflux. Of course we all know why that is. I’ve been diagnosed with severe gastritis, a small hiatal hernia, moderate duodenitis, and severe pylorospasms.
The symptoms I felt seemed to have started after my cholecystectomy, so I grabbed some of your gallbladder formula. It didn’t seem to help so I stopped using it in the moment.
I was on the freeway and suddenly felt anxious. I didn’t and still don’t feel right. Every time I use the restroom, I burn below. I’m even occasionally bleeding.
As of a week ago, I have the diagnosis I mentioned above and have been put on pantoprazole. I can’t find my gallbladder formula yet, but when I do, I’m hoping this was all just my body not having enough bile to neutralize the acid from my stomach.
The GI said there’s no H. Pylori anywhere, and that many of my symptoms could have been caused by stress.

I had acid reflux. it started 25 years ago. Before I took the meds that was offered, I did a study. I found that acid reflux began with the automobile. With the automobile came the cafe along the road. The cafe didn't want the consumer to sit waiting, so they began bringing the salad and drinks first. Putting salad and drinks in the belly before the protein caused the stomach acid to be diluted so that the protein could not be broken down when it was placed into the stomach last. Heartburn. By ending all fluids and carbs before protein, I lost all heartburn instantly. I have now the need to end fructose intake for other reasons, but to end my heartburn I did not change the fructose intake. Sugar is half sucrose and fructose. Don't let cafes ruin your health.

My father and paternal grandmother both had GERD. Neither smoked, my dad particulary was fit and kept the smae weight all his life. He was still plastering ceilings in his mid-70's. I remember him having white chalky line around his lips as he constantly chewed antacid tablets because of his problem. Both dad and grandma died of stomach/liver cancer. A few years ago I developed Gerd. Again, not over-weight and not a smoker. So I concluded it was down to genetic disposition towards it. i knew I had to do something about it the inflammation and certainly didn't want to take drugs. (i was mindful that dad's chalky tablets covered up and didn't cure the problem.)
So I looked at diet. My dad struggled with some foods and so that was the clue. I researched Keto and low carb. I didn't go full Keto but I drastically cut carbs (wheat was a major problem) but the number one cause of the inflammation was seed oils and margarine. I switched to all good fats like butter and coconut oil and olive oil. I cured my reflux. Just occasionally it comes back and that is entirely due to me eating something I didn't cook myself which has seed oil involved. Reassuring in a way because it proves I have the right culprit.

I got GERD out of nowhere. Had great luck with betaine hcl and reflux went away for about 1.5 months. Started doing herbal antimicrobials and probiotic to eliminate potential issues neutralizing my acid for that same timeframe.
Now all the sudden the betaine hcl isn't working anymore, I'm getting chest pain and burning back.
So now I'm doing hiatal exercises and trying to strengthen the LES. It's super discouraging. I'm a "healthy" 35 year old fit male and taking plenty of zinc, C, B12, b complex, iodine, sea salt.... I wouldn't wish GERD on my worst enemy.

Barrett's Esophagus? Hi Dr. Berg: Have been following you for several years and there should be more enlightening professionals like you! I've learned SO much and forever grateful for your dedication to helping others outside the conventional medical realm. Last yr. I was diagnosed with Barrett's esophagus after years of acid reflux, Tums and a year on Omeprazole. Getting unwated side effects from the PPI and want off of it, but scared to because of the Dx. There is no dysphagia. Since swallowing acid foods does irritate my esophagus/throat/mouth, is it still advisable to consume the ACV?

@@claytonjames4779 probably because lemon water is alkaline? It wud reduce the acidity in ur stomach, thereby causing the oesophageal valve to not close and give u heartburn/acidity. Just a thought, not a diagnosis as I am not a doctor. I find that eating raw Ginger with meals (sometimes soaked in little bit of lemon juice) reduces heartburn post meals. Diff things work for diff ppl. For symptom management (not root cause) u may chew a teaspoon of fennel seeds post meals. Really helps me. If u can't find it easily, go to an Indian grocery store if there's one near your place and ask them for "Saunf" (fennel seeds).

I was on acid reflux medicine until I found a video similar to this that explained that people with acid reflux stomachs are like if you put an alka-seltzer in two little water and it bubbles up the rest of the glass. That video also recommended increasing your acid with ACV or lemon juice. I drink lemon water and if it is really bad I take a shot of lemon juice. I also take apple cider vinegar capsules as I don’t like the taste as much lemon juice.

This is one of the reasons I have decided against the gastric sleeve surgery. People have the surgery and loose a ton of weight but they are miserable from acid reflex flair ups every two hours. This is because along with 85% of the stomach they also take out 85% of the stomach acid.

another symptom you can add is chronic throat clearing (I get this alot) when I take digestive enzymes the throat clearing goes away which is how I know it is my stomach causing the throat clearing not allergies. also I believe that the bacteria you speak of is the result of low acid not hte cause, microbes get blamed so much for things whenthey are at the scene ofthe crime. I dont get alot of burning except a tiny bit in the lower part of the esohphgus, but the throat clearing is very annoying sometimes disturbing my sleep. throat clearing can be exhausting when your trying to hike a trail and it just wont stop and then suddenly it stops. weird.
