Hello Dr. Berry. My gastroenterologist told me that I have Gerd, gastritis & Barrett`s Esophagus & she put me on Nexium for the Barretts & Gerd. Is there another way to treat these conditions?
I was doing low carb/keto and was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia and acid reflux. On pills now of course, but was also told to avoid eating Fat. So no im at a lost on what to do.
Dr. Berry I would love to personally get in touch w you regarding my husband and his herd other physicians just cant seem to help him and get his gerd under control he has truly suffered for more than 10 years he vomits after every meal almost and recently has a colonoscopy and endoscopy to check and of course it was no in the best shape but I would really like to get him set up on a regimen (lifestlye) change for the better. And of course will begin to follow the steps and tips you've listed in this video. I hope you find the time to read this and possibly respond I really would be so grateful. Thank you again for the video and help
Hello sir. I have really bad GERD and I've been suffering chronically for a while and no proton pump inhibitorsor antacids are helping me and I also have lost 20 pounds almost and I've been to several emergency rooms and they just send me away and tell me it's probably chronic gerd or gastritis I've also had an abdominal ultrasound done on me and some of the doctors are rude and just say it's anxiety... I don't know what to do anymore 😔. I watched your video and I'm trying and struggling to get this diet down can you please reply and help me with this? I know you are a busy guy but I forever be in your debt. Josh.
As a pharmacist and chiropractor with over 50 years in the health field I can say "listen to this advice. He is making uncommon good sense.!" If you are lucky enough to find an MD with such an open mind to alternatives, become a patient of his asap.
@@sagarshetty3175 it's easy to incorporate into the diet. I add it to my post-gym protein shakes. Keto is too strict for me so I just cut all carbs and sugar for 6 days a week. I have 24 hours a week as my cheat window. 😁
I have been suffering GERD problem from November 2021 till now, my weight loss 20 kg within 2 months, November 2021 middle of the night suddenly I had major acid reflux, during that time my blood pressure become so high: 180/105+, that time I felt that I will die. the worse part of that GERD disease is; Breathing problems, Chest pain, Discomfort in the head, Anxiety, High BP, etc. I can't eat ordinary foods now, I left drinking coffee, tea, soft drinks also fast foods, and fried foods. if I eat those mentioned foods, I feel acidity within a short time. my life become Black and white nowadays. only GERD patients will understand the pain of that bad disease.
Hi, Do you mind sharing how long the acute episode lasted? I’ve just finished about 21 days of chronic GERD/LPR symptoms…. I’m trying to figure out how people manage to not become dehydrated or malnourished from not really eating or not keeping anything down or digesting food….
@@lisaschooler9992 I had GERD since two years. I had taken pantaprazole 40mg after doing endoscopy. I was feeling well for one year. But from last September I had sleep difficulty and heart burn . Again I repeated pantaprazole. Now I am on pantaprazole 40 mg. Feeling better. I don't no how long it wil last. I am focusing on weigh loss. I am on heavier side in comparison to my height.
I have been suffering GERD problem from July 2021 plz help me due to acid reflux I have open sphincter problem it’s really pain full for me I have take some types of medicine
I was having severe reflux, some simple changes that eliminated most of it to the point of healing before watching this video. 1- no coffee on empty stomach 2- increase fibre intake 3- fresh coriander eaten alot ( for some reason it makes the gut calm down) 4- sleeping more on left side 5- more sleep 6- less stress 7- less junk food, especially biscuit type foods which were a big trigger. 8 - fat loss, this is underrated because it reduces pressure on the gut.
I ate a Alfredo pasta dish one night around 7. I usually don’t eat that late unless it’s a small snack. Woke up around midnight with acid coming up my throat , burning and making me cough. Scared the crap out of me. I haven’t had Alfredo since. I also stop eating so late. I started taking Prilosec a few days ago and have been having heart palpitations. I have had cardiac testing in the past and everything came back pretty normal. So I think it’s the Prilosec.
@@reginamcadory674 definitely. Pepcid AC is better but I'm trying to even not take it. I'm trying this acv, ginger, honey, spring water concoction next. Good luck.
I have a hiatus hernia. I have an electric riser bed and haven't lain flat to sleep since 2000. I also put a pillow in the small of my back to keep me lying straighter. I don't drink tea, I don't eat jam/jelly, or bread, or any fruit except pears, don't eat spicy food, the list is endless. I do drink decaffeinated coffee, but no more than one cup a day. Over the years I've had to go to an ever more bland diet. Ginger actually makes it much worse for me. I'm not overweight, I don't smoke or drink alcohol. I do add skimmed milk to my morning cereals and lunch break porridge. I actually eat my main meal before work at 10am, so no "dinner" in the evening now. I have gone for years without a flare up. Over the last three weeks I've had to buy a different, more expensive "purer" brand of peppermint tea because my supermarket own brand is out of stock. BAD idea. I have so much pain as a result. Cheaper is better. Peppermint definitely relaxes the sphincter and lets more acid up. I did not get any relief with proton pump inhibitors in the past and I had to change my diet. I use Gaviscon at night while I have this flare up. It's slightly better than nothing at all, but diet and never lying flat is the tried and tested only solution for me.
First time I've heard of anyone else waking up choking from acid reflux. I had that happen 2 weeks ago, i was terrified. I did get an endoscopy done, with 3 biopsies. Only the ecinaphilic asophageolitis came up positive, my esophagus was swollen. Has to do with undiagnosed allergies. Dr said i was lucky I didn't choke. I knew i had some allergies but after the positive results i went and had extensive food allergies test, my food allergies were some of the worse they have encountered. I had never heard of encinophilic asophageolitis before. I had horrible acid reflux, liquid would shout out. Undiagnosed food allergies can cause serious acid reflux. The Dr on some of these sights are so on tract with diet. My extremely high, wheat, milk, eggs, oats, rice, potatoe, lemon, pork, beef, oranges, apples, pears, tomatoes, soy, corn, nuts, seafood, molds. I had my test done by blood test which was more accurate. There were others on their too. Shared these in hopes of helping someone else. My stomach and throat were under attack and un fire from undiagnosed food allergies. I highly recommend this test ( biopsy) i never even knew it existed before. Sorry so long, hope this helps. 🦋💖
All I can say is THANK YOU!!! I developed an allergy to gluten out of nowhere then nuts. I’ve went so far twice in emergency & even though the throat swelling has left I’m still experiencing stomach pain. Months before that I had been accustomed to waking up in the middle of the night chocking on my acid when I’ve eaten pasta & beans. I’m looking to get the endoscopy test done & I’ll ask about the biopsy test you shared. Thanks a million !!!
My husband was on acid reflux medicine for yearrrsssssss. Without his medication, acid would come up his throat, and he'd throw up. I began giving him magnesium and stopping the med about a month ago, and he has not had any reflux since. We also try to have a large breakfast, a medium large lunch, and a small early dinner. We stopped snacking, so we're actually giving the acid in the stomach time to break down the food without opening the valve. Eating a big meal at night also leaves a big amount of food in your stomach that will push the acid up the valve when you lay down. We do eat high protein, fiber, low carb diet. No artificial sugar or processed food or whole wheat grains. These things have changed my husband's life, praise God.
@jtobit really it seems like most types work. Just make sure you don't get an oxide one. Your body doesn't absorb much from it.We were doing Qunol Magnesium Extra Strength 420mg only 1 pill a day, sometimes 2. He still hasn't needed his medicine. We recently switched to 1500mg Magnesium L-Threonate Capsules because this form of magnesium also aids with mental health. 1 pill, but use how you need it.
@janetfagan7536 he takes it at night before bedtime. If he does eat something late and is battling acid, he just props himself up, but it doesn't happen often.
I wish you were my doctor. Laguna Hills Veterans Clinic could use someone like you. My doctor tries to do right. He looked at my file, saw I had battled GERD for over a decade and said he was going to give me the best medicine they got. To be fair to him, it worked well to prevent my heartburn. It also made me gain 30 lbs in a month and any missed dose brings the GERD back twice as strong as before. I've been off the med for 3 days now and it's been really hard. If I had watched this video sooner, maybe I'd have weaned myself off instead of going cold turkey, but oh well. Hopefully I can get this under control. It's hell. People who don't know, can't even begin to understand it.
@@paolaminas2581 I watched this video a long time ago but I believe he said to take probiotics. That's the only step I didn't do and my heartburn still went away.
@@paolaminas2581 Yes, to probiotics. Take a good probiotic is what he said. For example, "Wholesome Wellness" makes a good probiotic for women that has 100 billion. They also have one that is unisex. Some also take Align, but it doesn't have many strains. There is also Microbiome plus. I would also add if you are taking probiotics that you will also need the right kind of fiber to feed your gut bacteria. Also, some people also IBS and not just GERD. And some people with their IBS, have sinus problems, rhinitis (a histamine problem).
@@isacmartinez3438 Yeah, I've heard that recommendation from others before long gone are my eating at midnight activities that I used to occasionally do. No more Garfield nights:) in terms of food. :)
I've had terrible heartburn since I was in my 20's. I've woken up at night choking on stomach acid. The one thing that helped me more than anything was eating dinner early at night. I absolutely will not eat anything after 5pm and I'll try not to lay down within 3 hours. That fixed it for me with no pills.
@@mypillowguy445 I had GERD symptoms and my doctor prescribed omaprazol. I took acv and lemon for three days and was free of symptoms. Half a glass of warm water with two spoonful of ACV, one spoonful of freshly squeezed lemon juice, one spoonful of honey, three times a day on an empty stomach.
*_SUMMARY OF VIDEO:_* Prelim: Wean off all PPIs or antacids - start taking it intermittently, maybe every other day, every third day etc. Don't quit cold turkey because of hectic acid re-bound. TEMPORARY FIXES: Take apple cider vinegar to start off with - preferably diluting 4 tablespoons in glass of water; chewing gum; Bicarb soda; Ginger root; Real rock salt. 1. Skip the inflammatory diet (diary, grains - wheat, corn, rice, oatmeal; NO PROCESSED FOOD, spicy food, ), eat low carb, high fat diet - see his recommended video in the description. 2. Lose weight - to reduce abdominal pressure which squeezes the stomach, pushing the acid back up into the esophagus. eat low carb, high fat diet , keto. 3. Stop eating or drinking at least 2 hours before going to bed. 3 hours is better. 4. Put some blocks/bricks under the head post of the bed to raise the head above the toes so the liquid acid will flow downwards. 5. Give up smoking - absolutely, totally, just GIVE IT UP DUDE!; skip the caffeine and alcohol - these are the 3 things guaranteed to loosen the esophageal sphincter. 6. Take a good quality probiotic. Best is kept in the fridge/cooler. 7. Wear loose fitting clothes to prevent abdominal pressure. 8. ???
I did the medical mediums celery juice morning routine for 2 weeks and my severe acid reflux went away. I just juiced a celery every morning first thing I consumed, waited 30 minutes then drank a blueberry water banana spinach smoothie. After that I continued with my day, it went away. I read that lettuce and vegetables give your body the ability to create its own stomach acid. So I now eat a lot of salads.
Ketosis doesn't get rid of heartburn, not eating crappy processed foods does. Keto doesn't allow processed foods and sweets, so it was the food not the break down of ketones. Good for you though.
This is SO TRUE. I went to the doctor for my persistent reflex and coughing, and *without finding a cause* he gave me three prescriptions + an inhaler. I looked at the collection of bottles and faced up to the reality that I needed to stop eating so damned much. Gave up carbs (i.e. foot long subs, chips, multiple burgers and fries, heaps and heaps of pasta, pizza etc) and whaddya know? No more heartburn or coughing.
@@JN-gh4hm if only someone would ever answer this!! Or even tell us how long it makes for all that meat into a heartburn stomach takes, before the " magic " of keto starts to work..?
@@jimmack1071 research ketogenic diet. Check out Low Carb Down Under on UA-cam. Dr.KenD.Berry (the guy you are watching on this video) gives lots of information about the ketogenic diet. The best information I have seen on it is from Low Carb Down Under. The theory is burning fat for fuel instead of carbohydrates. If you keep your carbohydrate intake less than 25 grams per day, your body will start using the stored fat for energy. Once that transition takes place you can maintain a high fat low carbohydrate diet and keep burning the excess fat stored all through your body. Lots of fats, lots of vegetables, four to six ounces of protein per meal, one or two meals per day. It isn't a very strict diet. It is more of a lifestyle change.
I was always taking Pepcid and other acid blockers, had bad heartburn. But as a separate issue I started taking cayenne pepper in water before my morning walks, for heart health and a burst of energy. Was not long before I discovered I rarely needed the acid blockers anymore, the cayenne water has now 100% Cured my heartburn with no side effects. Just put 1/4 teaspoon in an 80z glass of water, stir, let it sit a minute to get saturated, then stir again and drink. Cured. I have not bought any acid blockers in well over 15 years.
All I can say is, I probably would do everything you've mentioned to help with acid reflux etc..but fortunately I am a walking miracle! God in His great mercy and grace and love for me healed me 100% of it all. 25 years ago. Praise God!
I had what I believe was a GERD induced panic attack. I drank alcohol Friday night in excess with jalapeño chips and then spaghetti and meatballs. I didn't sleep well. Then Saturday while sleep deprived I had sausages on buns with peppers and onions with beans of course I finished that bag of chips. Then I had pizza and cheeseburger Sunday. Coffee and nicotine everyday. Sunday night I had a full blown panic attack. heart racing existential dread lightheaded nearly called 911. Apparently acid reflux is best buddies with anxiety too. I realize that I need to love myself and treat my body with more respect so I came across your video. I know you see people like me everyday and it's sad what we do to ourselves.
Thank you doctor, I got rid of the creator and protonix, my grandson is going to raise the head of my bed tomorrow. I thank the Lord for you. You are the most honest doctor I’ve ever heard of and I’ve been in contact with several doctors during my 79 years of life. I am over weight and started the Ketogenic way of eating almost a month ago I am losing very slow in pounds but I will not be discouraged. I LOVE this new way of eating. May the Lord continue blessing you and your family.
Hi for UA-camrs like you sharing contents like this you don’t know how many people are gonna remember you and thank you deeply from their hearts! People will remember your work!
1. No milk or liquid dairy or process food 2. Loose weight 3. Stop eating or drinking too much before you ly down like 2 hours 4. Elevate the head of your bed( don't use more pillows) 5. If you are a smoker you got to quit smoking 6. No nicotine , caffeine, no alcohol. It leaves the splinter opens 7. Take a good quality probiotic.
Our home burned down, after 45 years of marriage , since then....I have had major acid problems. I sit up against the wall to try to sleep. I have been so sick, I will try this, all of this . Thank you for your video. It is so so hard when your home burns down and everything is gone, It devastates your mind and body.
Full of excellent advice. So glad I found your video. I was just so desperate so I went to see the doctor, but he just hands out pills and has no long term solution. I hate pills at the best of time, don’t even like to take painkillers even when I am in pain. Your advice gives me hope. Thank you so much.
I had a bad case and permanently resolved it with the Aloe Vera gel from the leaf, pure honey, apple cider vinegar (teaspoon of each in half a glass of water). I took that about 3-4 times per week twice a day and in 4 months it stopped. I would take it right before I ate a meal. After that, I would drink water. I even stopped drinking coffee and soda. I also took a good probiotic as well. At night, I slept on my left side which helped. I drank chamomile tea and bone broth soups as well. I stopped eating fried foods. It’s been about 10 years. After I felt great, I tried to eat fried foods. I didn’t have a reaction, however, why take a risk and fall back to getting heart burn. Now we have air fryers which I have. The funny part is that I got so used to not frying that I don’t even think to use the air fryer. There just comes a time at a certain age where the body can no longer accept particular foods. I hope all of those who are suffering will find an answer to getting healed. The remedy I posted was given to me, however, it doesn’t mean it would work for someone else. I wish everyone total healing. The video has excellent recommendations.

After being on doctor prescribed PPI’s (acid blockers) for 27 years I am finally free of them! I saw this video 10 months ago and followed his advice on how to slowly wean myself off of them sensibly and realistically. Thank you! Now, I am working on building up my meaningful bone density that was compromised from the PPI’s! I now have osteoporosis but hope to slow it down and even better yet reverse it! Please note that I am 5’4” and weight 135. Wish me luck!
Good luck. You are inspirational. I'm 55 and have been on these things for 28years. Just saw this and am now very motivated to get off ppi's. Please tell me how long it took and exactly what you did. God bless
Thank you, doctor for a wealth of information. When I mentioned to my Internal Medicine doctor about my concerns with taking acid reducers on a permanent basis, he dismissed them and actually increased my prescription. It is so refreshing to hear other views that make too much sense to ignore. I wish you'd touch up on how an intermittent fasting diet influences the acid reflux issue. Thanks again.
I have to give you a huge thank you for this one. After 8 months on Keto I was still not able to get off the Omeprazole. Was taking twice a day and when I tried to stop it felt like my entire gut was on fire. After applying your info from this video I am finally off the meds completely. Also seems to be helping my bowel. Very grateful for all your videos but especially found this one helpful.
I've had acid reflux for almost a month now. My doctor gave me medicine before eating in the morning for 2 weeks. Now I need to follow every step you said. I really want to get rid of this reflux . Thank you and God Bless!
I've used a small inclining pillow...and because I wanted a little something to chew on instead of drinking a chug of ACV, I'd eat 2 baby dill pickles or (even better) 2 pickled okra. Another thing discovered... is that I moved my taking of Magnesium to daytime instead of at night.
Thanks Dr. Berry. I started your suggested Keto diet one month ago and I have lost 13.5 pounds, 2.5 inches in my waist and have taken a prilosec pill since. Zero heartburn!!!!
Melissa What’s so terrible about it? Everything that I’ve read, seen, and researched about Keto shows that it’s greatly improved the health of so many people.
@@melissa4295 Almost on 21 months keto myself. Check out Dr. Westman from Duke University. His clinic is a "last resort" for people with chronic conditions and have found no solution to their ailments from GERD, obesity, T2 diabetes, and more. Thank you for sharing this video. I have been suffereing from silent reflux for about a year and after watching ur video I finally found relief. I had fix my refluks/GERD almost 2 month. Back then, i had terrible chest pain heartburn after eating. It make me sick and feel terrible. I tend to vomit after eating and eating just make me scared only to think that i will feel breathless, vomit, and plus my heart palpitation problem. Then, i start fasting, try to eat in moderate amount, slowly my constipation went off, and finally im free from this terrible disease
Hello, thanks for your video. I had so many bad nights, coughs, heartburns...and everything stopped with intermittent fasting and not eating in the evening. Now I sleep all night, no more wake ups. So much better. All best to you.
The vinegar and chewing gum are two things my doctor told me not to take. I've been drinking hot/warm water (2 cups) every morning. A doctor said do this for 10 days and I'd see a major difference, along with eating smaller meals and avoid trigger foods.
I was suffering from gerd and reflux last 1 and half year ...from last three days I am taking ACV 2 tablespoons and adding 10 ounces of ginger and I also add honey for taste .....Taking daily in morning and bedtime....believe me it changes almost 70% of severe conditions from last three days...And one more thing I always asked ALLAH s.w.t to give me better health....Thank-you
Another tip to reduce/eliminate GERD Is if you have a wedge pillow to elevate your head, you instead put it under your mattress so the whole bed (or your side) is always in a reclined position without worry of your head slopping down the pillow. You can also get another wedge pillow or some folded blankets on the foot-side of the bed to be in a Zero Gravity position. Way more comfortable then a brick IMO.
True story! I had the nexium daily for years. Years! Then broke my ankle and learned I have osteopenia. Not good! Then Keto came to my life and NO MORE pills. So grateful for you, Dr. B.
This guy's solution to all problems is "stop eating grains" and I love it. Humans are not meant to be eating grasses. Just because grain enabled civilization does not mean that they are good for our health on an individual level.
My heartburn ended five months ago on the very first day I started keto. Stomach pain when eating gone. IBS gone. Asthma gone. Allergies gone. Constant coughing, wheezing and sneezing gone. Arthritis pain and stiffness gone. High blood pressure gone. Heart palpitations and shortness of breath gone. Thirty two pounds gone.
Incidentally, when I started Keto, the Keto flue contributed to my gerd developing because I always fell asleep after eating Keto meals. It was not the kind of Keto flu I ever got over. It continued for months.

Take the cough seriously! I didn’t, and I had it for a couple of years, but I didn’t think it was a big deal. Now I have Barrett’s Esophagus, which is a precursor to esophageal cancer.
I just want to say thank you! My reflux was awful and daily until I watched your video. All I changed was not eating or Drinking anything before bed. The difference was literly over night! I wish my doctor said that. Instead they offer surgery and 💊 s. Thanks again

Thank you doctor you have given me hope. I have been suffering badly. The PPI Omoparasol I have taken for over a year does nothing and I still have to take antacids.I checked out the KETO diet and I see I am eating all the wrong foods which trigger the symptoms. I will try the KETO diet. You have made my day. I felt helpless now I see hope. Thank you so much. I also see that many comments are very encouraging.
One important thing - if You have GERD - chronic refluks - don't drink apple cider vinegar (or anything extremely acidic) - it will burn your esophagus, because you most likely due to GERD have PEPSIN in Your esophagus and throat that came from stomach - that PEPSIN when in contact with apple cider, will activate and burn your esophagus - this when done often, may lead to ulcers, Barret's esophagus, and then cancer.
Thank you for your comment I started using the Mothers Apple Cider l took it in capsule…. But within a week l got Acid Reflux And am now have to visit the Doctor
So true. Keto actually made my husbands gut too acidic. He developed severe reflux with scarring in the esophagus. He couldn’t eat or drink anything so once we changed his diet to alkaline, he is able to eat again & the inflammation is going down. Fruit, veg, no chocolate, no sugar, no spices, no caffeine, only natural whole foods.
Being vegan for 8 years caused massive bloating and pushed on my stomach for so ling it led to a hiatal hernia, which led to GERD, which led to ulcers and esophagitis
I feel like people go on new diets without full knowledge of the nutrients and what is good for them, A plant based diet wouldn’t be bad for you unless you are missing vital vitamins and minerals from your daily diet. Malnutrition of course causes another host of problems
I got off all anti-acid medications by drinking pickle juice. I’m using acv capsules a lot now and less pickle juice. I had been reading about mineral absorption and was concerned because I had low thyroid and bone density concerns. I didn’t think I could get off of anti-acids. So, I came up with the idea of drinking pickle juice before each meal to help with absorption of minerals. To my great surprise all of my gastric problems started to clear up. I still have some symptoms, I still do pickle juice if I need a faster reaction than I get with acv, but I haven’t used any anti-acids in close to 2 months and much reduced before that. I had been doing the opposite of what I needed for 40 years🙄 I wonder how much the ant-acid meds contributed to the low thyroid and bone density. My next step is the keto for the anti inflammatory and weight loss. I found it interesting Dr. Berry’s remark about salt. Maybe that’s why the pickle juice works faster? I don’t recommend pickle juice because of the amount of salt and I don’t know the ph level either. I was just a little desperate when I started using it. I like the acv capsules for eating out at restaurants and at friends. Good Luck to everyone and thank you to Dr. Berry
Thank you Dr. Berry I really really mean it. Liked and Subbed. ive been in terrible pain the last week. Chugging milk thinking that would help. I stopped the baby cow juice diet and took some sodium bicarbonate, 10 minutes later I burped so long and loud my cat hid under the couch. But it was like I moved all the pain out in the burp. I feel like an 18 year old again. You made a difference in someone's life tonight. Sounds corny, but it is just a fact.
Thank you very much Berry. I'm suffering from IBS and heartburn from past 15 years. Last week i had endoscopy and found out inflation and widened Sphincter which stays open all the time. I'm being treated by a new doctor this time. I hope for positive outcome this time.

I took a shot of Apple cider vinegar and it allowed me to finally eat and drink a little. I am beyond happy right now. Stung for 30 seconds but so worth it! I am going to apply these tips but you saved me & not the doctors that gave me more pills.... thank you again!
Acid reflex or GERD is nothing to fool with! I’ve had to have structures stretched out if you will because of it and it’s tough. Thank you for this video it’s great information
I agree with everything Ken says here, and what actually has always worked for me when i have acid reflux is by having a table spoon or 2 of Braggs apple cider vinegar in a glass of water to drink. works for me every time.
Love Light Blessings I just couldn’t like it’s so hard to skip everything can’t drink soda, juice, coffe all u can drink is water or decaf and you can’t eat fried food like fries or fried chicken only things like grilled chicken, can’t eat hot sauce or stuff like that😭
Had terrible heartburn symptoms for 5 days. Prayed 🙏 alot & took one teaspoon of organic pure honey 🍯 yesterday & today all symptoms are gone! 💃 🙏 Will watch what I eat & see how it goes.
Thank you! Such great info. I am a gastric bypass patient and have had to take RXs for gerd for years. Now, with all the cons of them coming out, I stopped them cold turkey. While I am not grossed out easily, I can't stand the thought of phlegm/ mucus. I started getting a constant white film on my tongue and nothing I did got rid of it. After having to clear my throat too, I finally figured put through research what it was and now I constantly am gagging just thinking about it. I also am a chronic pain patient with pretty severe problems in my neck and back brought on much by inflammation in those joints as well as all over my body. I'm going to definitely give some of these suggestions a try. If thete is anything else you can think of that may specifically relate to myself, I would love to hear them. Again, thanks for the information you do. Doctors like you who give out such generous tips and suggestions are very rare and greatly appreciated.
I don't drink anything 1 hr before and after meal. My idea for doing that was to have maximum acidity for the food to digest. It helped a lot and I never have reflux now. Less bloated less burping and overall less gases too.
Great video! After my every 3 year endoscopy found out I have Barrets Esophagus. Don't understand why this information wasn't provided me, will be starting these strategies today and will seriously be looking for a new GI Physician...Thanks for the vlog!
Hi, sorry to hear at your Barretts. I've been diagnosed 4 years ago, with quite severe Barretts (8cm). I take 20mg twice a day of Omeprezole. Twice I have asked about reducing this dosage, and both times the answer was definitely not, the gains far outweigh the downsides. The second person who did my endoscopy, was actually vern stern, and said ' stop messing about, you've got serious Barretts '!! You'll be on 40mg twice a day if it gets any worse! So, my only concern is, does a ppi actually assist Barretts other than by reducing the acid? Ie if I change my diet to Keto, and / or Carnivore, and prevent acid, am I still missing out on a separate benefit that a ppi provides? I'd think not, but it would be reassuring to know before I quit them. I have never had heartburn since on ppi. If I come off ppi and don't get heartburn due to improved diet, and I safe and protecting my condition still? Yes, they should prescribe alternative methods outlined in this video. Great work Doctor, thankyou.
Being a student studying away from home the first time I got chronic acid im not going to lie I freaked out XD, this has helped out so much, the doctors I have been going to have been running around and not providing me with solutions whereas from this video within 15 minutes iv been given 7 new ways that can help. Great video more unbelievably helpful
Always go to sleep on your left side. Acid has a harder time leaking out if it has to leak upwards. Sleeping on your right side enables the acid to leak downward. It helped me enormously when I started doing this.
Dr. Berry is a great doctor, he has followed his advises for dry eye and now i do not have any more dry eyes problem and i do not have to use eye drops any more. Thank you so much Dr Berry!
I am coming off using PPIs for 21 years. to prevent acid rebound I tapered my dosage over a few days. and also did exercises (from youtube videos) and started eating basil (helps strengthen mucus lining) yesterday was my last day taking PPI. I plan to add ACV starting tomorrow morning.
I have been keto for about 5 months. Down 60lbs! I had only occasional acid reflux before keto due to a hiatal hernia. About a month ago, I started with horrible consistent reflux/heartburn 24/7. I was told that sometimes intermittent fasting can cause this. Is that correct? I fast 16:8 every day. I did try the ACV for the first time yesterday and got about 90% relief which is AMAZING!
Stomach acid is 2-3. When you have the correct pH , the esophageal sphincter closes and stops the reflux to the esophagus . When your stomach acid is alkaline, the sphincter does not close and does the stomach acid escapes the esophageal sphincter. Correct the stomach acid by taking apple cider vinegar in water or betadine HCL, then you get rid of heartburn for good.
Great video Dr. Berry! I was diagnosed with Barrett's esophagus almost a year ago. I was put on Protonix 40mg daily, but haven't taken it daily as told, admittedly. I have been keto/IF for 2 months and have lost 27 lbs. This weight loss alone has helped tremendously! I have to go back for a scope soon, so I'm hoping for positive results, despite me being lazy at times and not taking the Protonix. I have been taking it lately, because of the higher risk of cancer. I'm hoping here soon I can lose the Protonix for good, as I continue to lose weight.
Thank you Dr. Berry! I love your common sense approach and the way you explain things in both medical and simple terms to debunk old thinking. I want to clone you for the good health benefits you present. Listen up people, open your minds and start taking care of your bodies! Canadian fan, Wendy C.
I was diagnosed with Gerd years ago. I immediately stopped eating certain foods that were the culprit. My husband was also diagnosed with Gerd. He smoked cigarettes, and he did not stop eating foods as I did. I was on Nexium for a short time, but he stayed on it for years. I am a carnivore now, and he is still smoking and eats better, but has underlying conditions still. I am healthy and find carnivore WOE the optimum way of eating. On occasion, I consume a small amount of veggies or starches but very little. I prefer eating carnivore. Dr. Berry is one of a few doctors I take seriously. He is awesome!
A doctor advised that I take melatonin at bedtime, because it helps to keep the sphincter closed. Doing that and eating raw ginger with my meals helped me got off the PPIs that I had been taking for years. Now that I eat keto-ish I have very little problem with acid reflux.
Maxie Lee Simmons I am from India. I am also taking melatonin 6 mg at bedtime since last 1 month. Can you let me know what is your dosage amount. I am planning to reduce to 3 mg. Are you still taking melatonin. Ginger causes a light burning sensation in my stomach though. Please reply
Excellent video, Dr. B. My brother-in-law suffers terribly with acid reflux; has even had to go to emergency in the middle of the night. He takes prescription drugs for it, but he’s not getting any relief. He eats all the things you say we shouldn’t eat, and he doesn’t eat any of the things you say we should eat for acid reflux. Going to SHARE this video with him. It’s going to be a hard sell because he’s convinced that low fat and lots of whole grains is the healthy way to go. 😳
I had my friend with GERD gargle (NOT swallow) with 1 tsp baking soda in a cup of water to ease the acid in her throat. As an extra to soothe the throat lining, she takes a tsp of manuka honey to ease discomfort. It seems to help.
Suffered with GERD/GORD all my life, was on prescribed PPIs for about a decade, I brought myself off them many years ago, Cider Vinegar actually made it worse but I find Oat Milk helps (Not had Dairy in 31 years). I don't smoke, I don't drink and I rarely have caffeine, I use two pillows at night, I still get attacks where I occasionally cough up acid or get it in my lungs on rarity but I now know it's caused by a Hiatus Hernia which they refuse to treat here in the UK.
Getting off of carbs for months stopped my GERDS. I found out wheat gluten makes me sick, oatmeal makes me sick and white rice makes me sick. It was getting off of Carbs that allowed me to find this out. Another side effect is that, I don't like sugar anymore. I only went on a low carb diet and ate the carbs in vegetables. I cut out bread, rice, pasta, oatmeal and wheat gluten.
@@eddie4812 If you have a medical condition that's causing it then diet will have minimal impact on it however avoiding fizzy drinks will help as will reducing sugar (including lactose) as the sugar is fuel for the bacteria in your stomach that create excess gasses and can push the acid up, I have found that even after doing this it can take 2-3 weeks before things get better, I've been unmedicated for years now and I was on PPI's for well over a decade.

Hello Dr.
I am post 6 years gastric sleeve developed gerd by then can I follow this too to get rid of gerd and stop ppi
Josh.

Me too had breathing problems during sleep and anxiety. Sometimes I do feel palpitations.
Hi, Do you mind sharing how long the acute episode lasted? I’ve just finished about 21 days of chronic GERD/LPR symptoms…. I’m trying to figure out how people manage to not become dehydrated or malnourished from not really eating or not keeping anything down or digesting food….

I was having severe reflux, some simple changes that eliminated most of it to the point of healing before watching this video.
1- no coffee on empty stomach
2- increase fibre intake
3- fresh coriander eaten alot ( for some reason it makes the gut calm down)
4- sleeping more on left side
5- more sleep
6- less stress
7- less junk food, especially biscuit type foods which were a big trigger.
8 - fat loss, this is underrated because it reduces pressure on the gut.
Thank you for sharing ❤️
I know most of my triggers
Chocolate
Spaghetti or pizza sauces
Fatty foods
SODA
OJ
Will set me off and it’s horrible
I ate a Alfredo pasta dish one night around 7. I usually don’t eat that late unless it’s a small snack. Woke up around midnight with acid coming up my throat , burning and making me cough. Scared the crap out of me. I haven’t had Alfredo since. I also stop eating so late. I started taking Prilosec a few days ago and have been having heart palpitations. I have had cardiac testing in the past and everything came back pretty normal. So I think it’s the Prilosec.
Thank you so much. I can literally FEEL the advice you have given. Tomorrow I start this routine. Bless your heart ❤

Which magnesium
@jtobit really it seems like most types work. Just make sure you don't get an oxide one. Your body doesn't absorb much from it.We were doing Qunol Magnesium Extra Strength 420mg only 1 pill a day, sometimes 2. He still hasn't needed his medicine.
We recently switched to 1500mg Magnesium L-Threonate Capsules because this form of magnesium also aids with mental health. 1 pill, but use how you need it.
What time of day did he take it?
@janetfagan7536 he takes it at night before bedtime. If he does eat something late and is battling acid, he just props himself up, but it doesn't happen often.
Was this 1500 m the qunol brand?

2. Lose weight.
3. Stop eating 2/3 hours before bed.

*_SUMMARY OF VIDEO:_*
Prelim: Wean off all PPIs or antacids - start taking it intermittently, maybe every other day, every third day etc.

Ok, but what is Keto?

It's a problem.

Fancy. I just jacked up the head of the bed with 2 stone bricks so the entire bed was on an incline.
He said to put a brick under the feet on the bed frame not under pillow 😂😂😂

This guy's solution to all problems is "stop eating grains" and I love it. Humans are not meant to be eating grasses. Just because grain enabled civilization does not mean that they are good for our health on an individual level.

Thank you for your comment
I started using the Mothers Apple Cider l took it in capsule….
But within a week l got Acid Reflux
And am now have to visit the Doctor
Dr. Berry, what about folks with Barretts esophagus, Gastroparesis, and L.P.R.?????
Started on a Plant Based way of eating. Overnight it went away. Almond milk unsweetened will help stop acid reflux.
All based on genetics. I love nachos and booze but they dont like me
Being vegan for 8 years caused massive bloating and pushed on my stomach for so ling it led to a hiatal hernia, which led to GERD, which led to ulcers and esophagitis
I feel like people go on new diets without full knowledge of the nutrients and what is good for them, A plant based diet wouldn’t be bad for you unless you are missing vital vitamins and minerals from your daily diet. Malnutrition of course causes another host of problems
@@bristolgriggs4576 Oh no I have hernia also, how are you doing now?
Berry

How many years did you have Barrett's esophagus did you get cure 😢
To answer the 2nd comment, I've been told there is no cure for Barretts.
