As a person diagnosed with gerd at 23, I can confirm that there is lots of contradicting advice out there on this health condition. It's almost like we have to choose between stomach or throat cancer. I am seeing more and more people with gerd (that had gerd for a long time) agree with the Dr. In this video. Moving from an acid blocker to an acid producer.
I also want to mention something that helped me immensely. My gerd is partially a result of untreated anxiety. Once I got a handle on my anxiety, majority of the symptoms went away. If you have gerd and are an anxious person/ over thinker. Please seek counseling, there might be a link there that most doctors miss. Lucky for me, mine struggled with the same issue and was able to assist accordingly.
To my fellow gerd patients - Everything will be ok. You are just on a journey of listening to your body ❤

Slowly but surely my anxiety turned into health anxiety so here I am. Now that I’ve recognized it, I’m slowly starting to heal all over again, I thought I did it before but the anxiety crept back in a different form! I was told I have symptoms of GERD and was given ppi’s. I didn’t take them and am going to try to heal naturally. 🤞

This is false , if you have gerd, acid reflux, and the doctor prescribes you a proton pump inhibitor, that medication basically stops your stomach lining from making a lot of acid, then why do people feel instantly relieved?

    • @jefferytrapani9700
      @jefferytrapani9700 7 місяців тому

It is studied by them. They don't want it to go away. They want people on acid blockers for the rest of their life to make profit. Acid blockers were approved y the FDA with the understanding they would be prescribed for a few months due to the side effects. etc. But that is not what happened. Some people are on it for years because the drugs increase what caused the problem- low stomach acid. The doctors took "the wrong solution for the wrong problem" as he says in the video.

I was in ICU due to severe gastritis and ulcer I didn't know about I was battling for more than year after first hospitalization.
I searched for different types of specialist from neuro to cardio as I was having terrible migranes and chest pains, EEG, ECG and CT scan were normal. Took every medicine did all the tests that doctor and I both prescribed. I came to know about cervical spondylosis after I decided to go for MRI so I thought maybe I have figured it out.
But one day after cholesterol fasting as soon as I completed my blood test the breathing problems appeared again like in first hospitalization.
Before being hospitalized first time I was healthy and suddenly one day I got fever that came at night, my medications made things worse.
Only after second hospitalization I got endoscopy then things start to become clear. Then again chest pain, wrist pain, leg pain with chest spasm and palpitations start to occur more,
Now I know its because of esophagus spasm it feels like heart problem. After normal results of echo and TMT the picture became clear.
Watching this video is bringing me more insight into what went wrong the issue is due to low acid and not high acid.

And try not have bad posture, and be more active. Had extreme issues for a couple of years. These things reversed it. The sphincter is connected to the diaphragm. A weak, tense or damaged diaphragm, and the valve wont close properly.

@imhappy83 heartburn and indigestion. I take Thornes, from their website: Indigestion can be caused by many things - including inadequate amounts of hydrochloric acid (HCl) in the stomach. HCl secretion in the stomach does several positive things. It assists protein digestion by activating pepsinogen to pepsin, it renders the stomach sterile against ingested pathogens, it inhibits undesirable overgrowth in the small intestine, and it encourages the flow of bile and pancreatic enzymes.* Hydrochloric acid also facilitates the absorption of a number of nutrients, including folate, vitamin B12, ascorbic acid, beta-carotene, iron, and some forms of calcium, magnesium, and zinc.* Numerous studies have shown that hydrochloric acid secretion in the stomach begins to decline with advancing age. Overuse of antacids or acid blockers can also lead to low levels of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, which can result in poor protein digestion.*

As far as I know, the Proton Pumps which pump the HCl acid into the stomach are stimulated by Potassium ions. So drinking some electrolyte supplement that has a good amount of potassium should instantly help release some acid in my experience

Best information I’ve seen amazing video. So for context I’m from London I’m 31 years old my symptoms started 2 years ago with chronic acid reflux and ingestion since then I’ve made my lifestyle changes like no Alcohol or liquor for you Americans no high fat foods and dairy products. Since then the reflux has gone but I’m left with chronic ingestion witch can last up to 10 - 12 hours it’s Radom sometimes I’ll eat the same foods one day it’s fine then not ok the next . I’ve been to the doctors first thing was PP1 medication witch luckily I learnt very quickly what it dose to you over long periods of time so I stopped within a month even tho it did help . Then I went for an Endoscopy , blood tests , stool sample , Ct scan , ultrasound all came back fine . So then the doctor tried to put me back on ppi witch i refused and asked if I could have a PH test done as I suspected I have a low PH the doctor told me that they wouldn’t test my PH because that’s only for people with no stomach then asked me if I have a degree in medicine because unfortunately this doctor didn’t know what I was talking about it’s a sad day when you know more then a doctor. So recently I’ve started to take L glutamine , prebiotic and digestive enzymes I’m hoping this will fix the problem but I wasn’t aware of betaine hydrochloride so now I’m thinking I’ll start that any other advice I’d appreciate it all the best to people suffering with this it’s no way to live make sure to get the right help and information and don’t trust these doctors nothing but glorified drug dealers .

Thank you Dr.Berg. Because currently i'm diagnosed having GERD. It start when i'm feeling uncomfortable at my throat area (Dysphagia Symptoms), hard to swallow even my own Saliva and sometimes feel like hard to breath. Then, i was referred to the ENT (Ear Nose & Throat) specialist for further inspection. At this point, the ENT doctor inspect me using the Laryngoscopy method. During the process, the Doctor observed that, there are some sort of white Saliva at the behind of my throat (Epiglottis), further inside there are some small bumps found out (due to acid effect or ulcer). Next, at the Vocal Cords area, the doctor found out that the muscles at that area are quite thicker (swollen due to stomach acid erosion), and lastly at the Trachea area, where the opening area quite larger than usual (doctor suspects due to stomach acid erosion) and you can see deep inside it. At the end, the doctor diagnose me as a GERD and prescribed a Pantoprazole 40mg. What is concerning me now are, am i having a Highly Acidic type of GERD or the opposite type as been explained by Dr. Eric Berg. I'm scared that the ENT doctor have wrongly diagnosed me 🥺🥺🥺

I have had severe GERD for 20 years. I wish i could agree that simply taking HCL is the answer but this condition is caused by a multitude of factors that need to be addressed. Let's not forget that people who have GERD likely have other inflammatory issues of the gastrointestinal tract, including gastritis, esophagitis, SIBO, gallbladder or liver issues, etc. For me, taking things like bitters, apple cider vinegar, and hydrochloric acid actually makes things worse. I STILL have reflux so the pain in my esophagus and stomach are even more severe... I need to take several days to recover from just one dose. Having lived with this condition for so long I can honestly say that HOW I eat (whether rushed or under a stress response) and when I eat plays more of a role than WHAT I eat and what supplements I try to take in order to improve this and other gastrointestinal issues (for me SIBO). Obviously our food and beverage choice still play a role, but If we are are stressed out when and after we eat, our digestion shuts down and the LES is certainly more likely to open leading to reflux. It's great if some people can take HCL right off the bat and see symptom relief, but in my experience simply taking supplements is not necessarily the golden ticket to this condition.

I did this too and I feel better but it provides temporary relief from the acid in your esophagus that shouldn’t be there but worsens the problem long term.
Lemon water is an acid that is actually considered alkalinizing because it brings your stomach acid to a stable range. Lemon water can fix acid reflux after drinking coffee. What??!! Both acids but coffee is the wrong acidity and lemon is the correct one. Drinking lemon after coffee will actually settle your stomach. Coffee is bad we shouldn’t drink it but lemon will fix your stomach, control the stomach sphincter and prevent the reflux so you don’t need baking soda water. Which ultimately worsens the condition

Buttermilk, soaked raisins and soaked fennel seeds also helped I feel. My gerd came with insomnia, I try to be stress free, it is still work in progress. I know the issues with PPIs longer term. I want to avoid. But lack of balance information is a real issue with medical practice these days. It tends to be a black and white scenario with no degree for variables. Thanks for sharing.

I started having acid reflux systems a few weeks ago, went to my doctor and was prescribed antacids. Didn't help at all. The whole time I was taking them I was researching this issue and found Dr. Berg's as well as several other articles on this. I used the Betaine HCL until I got really sick and was throwing up acid! I immediately took some baking soda and felt better. The next day I cut back one per instructions; however, the instructions do not say if you are supposed to the Betaine HCL tablets per meal or per day so here I am wondering and trying to get some relief but still have the burping. Not as bad as I was but...I go next week for an endoscopy and a sonogram and I told the gastroenterologist about what I was doing as well. I also found an article that Dr. Berg did not mention - that when you take Betaine HCL it raises your cholesterol levels which is why my gastroenterologist asked me if I am statins. Thanks goodness I already am! Don't trust everything Dr. Berg says because he is a DC and not an MD. Don't ever put all your faith and trust in a doctor. Do your own research!
