I had been diagnosed GERD in 2004 and the Dr prescribed antacids. From that point, I really can't get rid of them until three months ago. It has been over 20 years I used antacids. Three months ago, I was suffering from Fissure and hemorrhoids. When I was searching videos related to this, accidentally I saw a video of Dr. Berg and started taking ACV 2 tsp in the morning after food. Oh, my God, I can't believe that I am able to live without antacids. I am completely living GERD free, antacid free life for the past three months. Thanks is not enough for Dr.Berg. A great salute to him.
Heartburn in college changed my life too. I ate bottles of antacids and was prescribed nexium, and the doctor wanted me on anxiety pills too. After 2 more years of suffering I decided to try acupuncture. We chatted about food and unlike my "regular" doctors, the acupuncturist supported me trying a food elimination diet. 20 years later... I live on a farm and grow all my own veg, fruit, meat and herbal remedies. Heartburn set my life on a completely different course.
@@joepearlzz8504 acupunture can help some ppl sometimes it takes more than one session , everyone is different some accupunture are better , ( I didnt try acupunture for heart burn ) but he gave me some tea,( it helped the tea) he told me what to eat and not. what helped me my. heart burn was dr beerg advice on taking acv before meals *( also licorish black candy with hot water helps alot ) I used to takes pills that used to makes it worse I had to stop bczz I. hated how it make my stomach feel sore, and weird . I try to find the alternative like lemon first thing in. morning taking it within 30 min with straw, or taking the licorish with hot water until it pass dont drink water 15 before meal or 30 min after
@@joepearlzz8504 it would only help me feel good for the rest of that day. Even he said it wasnt going to help much since apparently any acupuncture effects will not last long for the digestive track.
@@joepearlzz8504 I don't see my reply so I apologize if I'm repeating myself! So it helped but only for the same day that I had the acupuncture. The acupuncturist warned me that treatment for the digestive system is not long term and it would be better to figure out food triggers. That sucks it made things worse for you :(
I've been dealing with all sort of issues the past 5 years. Just watched this started taking apple cider + B1 5 days ago and symptoms are much better since then. Thank you.
@@Xoxo-kj4vy It doesn't matter, but diet and quantity of food is by far the biggest trigger. There's nothing wrong with a PPI, they're pretty cheap these days. Weight loss meds can have a great impact, simply because you're eating far less.
I believe weight is part of the equation. For me, when I was approaching 250lbs it really pronounced itself. If I went down in weight the problem went away. Maybe I'm wrong but I believe the additional weight was pulling my stomach forward and allowing my stomach acids to travel up.
Sharing notes from Dr Berg: Antacids only work for a short time, requiring you to take more and more to keep your symptoms at bay. Through prolonged use, antacids will only make heartburn worse by depleting your stomach acid. Antacids are associated with the following side effects: • Bloating • Indigestion • Allergies • Increased infection in the stomach • Depression Antacids create a condition known as achlorhydria, which depletes your stomach acid, but you need your stomach acid to get rid of heartburn. Your stomach is very acidic and should have a pH between 1 and 3. Enzymes cannot be activated if you do not have the right pH. Heartburn is not a problem resulting from too much acid-it's a valve problem. Keeping the pH of the stomach between 1 and 3 keeps the valve shut. How to get rid of heartburn naturally: 1. The most important nutrient to eliminate and prevent heartburn is vitamin B1 (thiamine). Your stomach can not produce acid when you’re deficient in vitamin B1. A diet high in carbs depletes B1. Low B1 deprives the autonomic nervous system, which controls the valves of the stomach. Look for a natural source of vitamin B1 to get rid of heartburn. 2. Potassium and zinc are very important for your stomach acid. Try a good electrolyte powder and trace mineral supplement to increase your intake of these important minerals. Also, make sure you’re getting plenty of sea salt. 3. Increase your stomach acid. This triggers the valve at the top of the stomach to close. Apple cider vinegar and betaine hydrochloride can help acidify the stomach It’s important to note that if apple cider vinegar or betaine hydrochloride causes burning, you may have gastritis or an ulcer. In this situation, you need to heal the stomach before taking apple cider vinegar or betaine hydrochloride. Thank you Dr Berg! 🐱👍
Its not quite bandaid on a stab wound territory, but definitely myopic. Stomach valving not functiong is kind of a mechanical problem. Treating the chemistry instead? Thats a bit of a disconnect.
not a disco At All..... he sez that the valve is Triggered to be clOsed by the proper "Acidity", thus the chemistry approach, such as apple cider vinager. you should pay full attention b4 you criticize his good advise, with your own faulty approach
I had a Friend who was a Weight Lifter and he told me "Pain Is Just Weakness Leaving Your Body". I told him "No, Pain Is Your Body Telling You There's Something Wrong, So Stop Doing That, Stupid!", LOL!
It really depends on the context so both of you were kind of right. If your quads hurt because you're doing intense exercise at that particular moment and you know that the pain comes from the accumulation of lactic acid in the muscle cells, then pushing through that pain absolutely can be considered as a weakness leaving your body because you're doing something that's uncomfortable but good for you 😊@@rodneyferguson446
Heartburn and gastric issues is what set me on a different direction also! I had endoscopic scans and was told I had the start of Barrett's esophagus, a hardening of the esophagus lining caused by the acid reflux and that if its not treated could lead to cancer. I was prescribed an acid reducing medication. I asked, "just till I heal?", but the doctor said, no for life. Being scared of getting cancer I took it for a while, but had side affects like nausea, which I couldn't handle, so stopped taking it. I looked for alternatives and found a youtube video from a doctor (I can't remember who), who said the problem is not enough acid and his remedy was more salt and more calcium. I did that and for me it worked. But this was just the beginning of my journey.
OK YOU TOLD THAT MUCH. NOW TELL US MILLIONS WHAT SALT and HOW MUCH THIS and WHEN A DAY. PEOPLE SURE TICKLE ME WHEN THEY START TALKING PLENTY and NOT SAYING NOTHING. TELL ALL or TELL NOTHING YOULL. THESE ARE FACTS HERE. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP for MAN KIND and. MILLIONS. YOU SAY A DOCTOR TOLD YOU. TOLD YOU WHAT. MARCH 24, 2024. TELL ALL or TELL NOTHING
@@BigSlim48916 Heart burn must be really getting to you! Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor, so don't listen to me. Research yourself. Salt: sodium chloride. How much: several shakes onto my dinner. Plus 1 standard tablet containing calcium a day. I can't remember which doctor, but it was on youtube and he said, as far as salt is concerned, do the opposite from what the medical industry has been saying for years, ie reduce salt - it will harden your arteries and give you a heart attack! The acid in your stomach is hydrochloric acid and 1 half of salt is the chloride side. As for calcium, I'm going from memory here, has something to do with the whole process of acid being excreted into the stomach.
I have very bad gerd. Thank you so much for the detailed video. Your channel has been a game changer for me as with no health insurance, I follow you to help myself stay healthy with natural remedies. God bless you!
Yes i agree. My gerd was killing me. My Yale trained ent could not fix me and I became desperate and open minded. I found you and you changed my life. Thank you.
I quit ppi medicines 3 years ago, I started using zinc l carnosine, slippery elm, licorice, ginger root, Aloe vera, pomegranate extract, marshmallow root, and am great no acid reflux anymore for 3 years now.
I watched an older vid of his recommending hcl and acv. I took both and got a stomachache. It felt like something burning. I decided I probably had too much stomach acid and stopped taking hcl and acv. 2 years later and I still have reflux which is really affecting me. I took a supp for gastritis since a doctor found out I had gastritis and an ulcer. Which was what probably caused the stomach pain earlier. I could even feel the ulcer at times. My stomach is feeling better now and I just started taking hcl. 2x 650 mg to start with with food. So far no problems.
I got really sick around Christmas last year, the worst acid reflux I’ve ever had, that catapulted me into changing my diet and lifestyle. Feeling and looking much better. Grateful for your videos ❤ really enjoying your electrolytes too
SAME HERE. I went to the ER like 5 times they throw medicine at me, I changed my whole diet and lifestyle. Read gods word , enduring the struggles and it’s looking better then before. Keep up the good work 👌🏾👌🏾
@Tundreq Oh, I've done Apple cider vinegar before. It's just not ideal. Once I stopped, my heartburn was right back. But this valve issue he was talking about has given me a little insight that I can bring to my primary doctor. Also, I would like to ask my doctor about thiamine.

Dr Berg’s advice is very credible! he has helped me several times! I can’t thank him enough for all of the wisdom from him. The fact that he educates and shares all of this to the public is wonderful and certainly not a fault of it being a UA-cam video.!
I was diagnosed with GERD earlier this year. Managed the symptoms with a PPI amd after a month+ i was better. My symptoms returned a couple months ago and tried the acv, it made my symptoms worsen a little so stopped taking it. With a little adjustment in the food I was eating, drinking alkaline water and taking Nexium, my symptoms resolved.
03:34 valve not closing and causing heartburn might be also because of inflammation from poor diet cus keto meat fruit raw honey fixed mine ( mince beef, normal beef worsend symptoms at first so mince was easier to digest but now i can and its fine)
Thank you so much for all of your guidance on health Dr. Berg, especially heartburn. Last year, doctors destroyed me with the combination of H2 blockers and pantoprazole. I began to have strange symptoms such as SOB, dizziness, weakness, rapid hearbeat, insomnia. I couldn't eat vary my diet while I was taking these bc my gut would hurt and I mentioned this to my physicians, they told me they were not concerned with any of this causing my symptoms. They told me to keep taking the medications and that I was just anxious. I decided to go see a hematologist. My body wasn't holding iron and my B12 was very low. No other explanations except the medications. I started taking betaine hcl with my meals, increasing my red meat intake and seeing a holistic dr who encouraged colostrum. My heartburn is gone and I'm much better. Thank you again!
@Xoxo-kj4vy I used whatever was given to me in the holistic Dr's office, I also used Solaray betaine with pepsin. I can't be sure if there are better brands out there but it worked for me.
Pain with heartburn plus high pulse rate ! Was taking 3 or 4 omoprezole a day. My doctor did nothing (shoked) BUT came across another video. Close that valve with magnesium cylcanite & vit d so i did. Miracle ! No more meds & no more acid reflux
Hello Dr.Berg, thank you for all of the good service you do spreading effective knowledge to the public. I suffered from GERD for a year now. I took your word and bought Betaine HCI and use ACV. Problem solved over night. So my question is, since the lack of acid is the problem, does that mean go against advice to stay away from acidic foods like raw onions, garlic, tomatoes, spicy food, and caffeine etc.? Please let me know thank you Dr.Berg
the acid in your stomach is Hydrochloride acid it’s not the same as citric acid that is found in food. So if you suffer from GERD or very bad heart burn I would still stay away from very high acidic foods.
It was almost 2 yrs ago that I showed heart burn and GERD symptoms and thank God I watched Dr. Berg's videos on Acid Reflux. I've been taking ACV and Betain right before my meals and also taking Vitamin B1 (Dr. Berg's) and prebiotic generally since then and feel much better than even prior to my GERD issues. Works really well. I'm lucky that I never tried Antacids. Thank you Dr. Berg ❤
I have that since very little child because parents were not feeding me every 2 hours but every 4 hours and then we are. But will listen to your video now because today this acid is to much.
Wow, that's a really life changing video. My dad suffers from heartburn since forever. He never takes anti-acids, he eats some fruits or in worst case drinks Salvus water. I also had heartburn when I messed up my back with bad posture and also went through a lot of stress. Then I started eating cleaner, moving more, visited a chirropractor and stressed less. It basically disappeared, it only comes back once in a while.
@YoBoaXloud It doesn't really come back anymore. Well, when I eat chinese fastfood, or kfc, which is heavily deepfried, or I overdose on spicy pepper, or cakes, it can come back. But I ditched most of these and started eating more salads, cruciferous veggies, much less sugar, much more protein (meat and dairy, not soy), and reflux is basically gone.
I recently discovered alginate, which is derived from seaweed, to prevent acid reflux. Alginate has long been used in Europe but not many options in the US. Alginate reacts with stomach acid to form a temporary physical barrier against acid reflux at the GE junction. I like this new product called Nutritist Refluxter, which is all natural and preservative free. I take it at night to prevent reflux while I sleep.
You are exactly right Dr. berg! I used to have terrible acid reflux and nothing seemed to work until I took B1 for something else and then miraculously my acid reflux went away and never come back. Thank you for all you do!
@Aaronymous I was desperate too. I had developed Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome. Just horrible symptoms. Felt I wasn’t long for this world. Anyhow, I wasn’t sure which form of vitamin B1 was best, so I tried several but staying away from the cheaper synthetic versions. I took Benfotiamine, lipothiamine, allithiamine and something called TTFD(which the body can absorb ASAP). B1 should be taken with magnesium. I also supplemented with a methylated B complex and made dietary changes( cut out bread, sodas, etc). I took the B1 sometimes before meals, during meals and as time went on I increased the dosage until the symptoms all resolved themselves. This is what worked for me. I am not a doctor. I hope this helps.
I went to decaf during the 2021 Fall harvest and resolved my acid reflux problem. Stopped taking PPIs until after my MI, when they put me on Pantoprazol to protect my stomach from all the other drugs, particularly aspirin. I try to eat some sauerkraut regularly now.

Same deal. Bulletproof at 20. Eat anything, smoke, coffee until I get the jitters. A block of chocolate in one sitting. Enough sugar to drop an elephant. Now I got it I went the antacid route to settle after a pizza and caffeine binge. Worked a little. Gonna try the re acidify thing. Makes perfect sense. Something has to shut that valve off.
I have battled acid reflux for decades. Also I have a hiatal hernia. But Vitamin C helped me. It may not work for everyone. Vitamin C acts on histamines, and I have really bad respiratory allergies. One day my whole gut felt like it was on fire, and nothing to lose, I took a 500 mg Vitamin C. Magic. My stomach calmed. The next day I took 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon, and it was bliss. Slept well too. My allergies seem calmer too when I take Vitamin C. Apparently my GERD was caused by histamine activity.
Thank you. I will try the vitamin C. I have bad allergic asthma and easily get heartburn and acid reflux. Had epigastric hernia surgery in 2001. Small meals and fewer carbs help.

Thanks for this video. One thing that is confusing is that some studies seem to suggest that zinc can -- ... They reported that zinc oral supplements (with or without PPIs) inhibited acid secretion and increased gastric PH in both human and rodent gastric - so perhaps you could comment on that.

Surgery is not a guarantee...I know so many people in trouble. This is the problem with missinformation, not everyone id the same. For some people all these things work, for others, surgery works. I know lots of people who did surgery and they wished they never did it. Everyone is different, research your issue and find your solution well.
Missinformation here, i had a hiatal hernia and my gastro told me that everything can be corrected with diet exercising your diagphram and eating well. Also gluten/ bread was one of the biggest trigger food I discovered I had. After 2 months, no more acid reflux, I am free from it, my stomach is healed and I can sleep like a baby. Everything can be healed with change of lifestyle, it can be diet, healing an ulcer, cutting of intelorance food like dairy or gluten, having tests for celiac disease. Consider this before getting a surgery because some doctor will just want you to get the surgery to hide the problem but after, they wont tell you why you have GERD which is not normal in the first place. For severe hernia where your stomach is literally popping out of your tummy, surgery is necessary. But the rest of the time, no. Your body can heal from a lot of things with a good lifestyle and the correct tests ( aka gluten, dairy, food allergies, even sugar can cause the sphincter to stay open )

I believe weight is part of the equation. For me, when I was approaching 250lbs it really pronounced itself. If I went down in weight the problem went away. Maybe I'm wrong but I believe the additional weight was pulling my stomach forward and allowing my stomach acids to travel up.

Sharing notes from Dr Berg:
Antacids only work for a short time, requiring you to take more and more to keep your symptoms at bay. Through prolonged use, antacids will only make heartburn worse by depleting your stomach acid.
Antacids are associated with the following side effects:
• Bloating
• Indigestion
• Allergies
• Increased infection in the stomach
• Depression
Antacids create a condition known as achlorhydria, which depletes your stomach acid, but you need your stomach acid to get rid of heartburn.
How to get rid of heartburn naturally:
Apple cider vinegar and betaine hydrochloride can help acidify the stomach
It’s important to note that if apple cider vinegar or betaine hydrochloride causes burning, you may have gastritis or an ulcer.

Pain is one teacher no one ignores-Timothy Zahn

As for calcium, I'm going from memory here, has something to do with the whole process of acid being excreted into the stomach.

Hi, just wondering how much of dr bergs stuff did you take (like per meal and etc) & how long did it take for you to get over your symptoms?
After I started keto, my heartburn went away anyway, very grateful.
Does it only come back when you eat something that triggers it?
Yes you can find alginate in Europe but it,s full of aluminium so not good at all
You are exactly right Dr. berg! I used to have terrible acid reflux and nothing seemed to work until I took B1 for something else and then miraculously my acid reflux went away and never come back. Thank you for all you do!
How many days you take it
I was taking it every day and after about 2 to 3 weeks I noticed improvement. improvement continued and was significant.
What dosage of B1 should be taken per day?
@@donnmcshaner Thank you for sharing. Do you still supplement with a form of B1 or magnesium (since your symptoms all resolved)?

It may not work for everyone. Vitamin C acts on histamines, and I have really bad respiratory allergies.

Dr Berg, following your advice and knowledge I have been on keto for a number of years with great success, but feeling over confident, like you I tried a carnivore diet for 3 weeks, perhaps I did not give it long enough but I could not go on any longer due to the really bad acid reflux, I had no reflux on keto, back on us to now and feeling great.
Dr. Eric Berg you are magician 💖 I'm dealing with this issue for a couple of months.. You always upload videos sooo relevant to me 😁 Thank you so much 😍 Value of your knowledge and information is just priceless 💖 Presious 💖
Same! Over the summer I thought I was dying; my insides burning from the inside. I never thought it could be acid reflux and my doctor even said it was an active heart attack. Mind you this pain lasted for about 3 weeks. I got into YT and Dr. Berg video on GERD popped up and I ran to Whole Foods and bought everything he suggested. Within three days I was able to stand upright and go to work. I literally thought I was on my deathbed bc I was so sick. Dr Berg also helped me heal my anemia after suffering for so long with brain fog and fatigue. One thing I've noticed is that everything always revolves around b vitamin deficiency when it comes to my health so I have to be very aware not to miss a dose.
@@ms.hotdoglegs614 happy to hear that ❤️ in my case i eat pinnaple and it caused extreme irritation ..🤦♀️ i probably have low stomach acid.. no doctor can figure it out here eather. After Dr.Bergs videoes at least i can identify what issue i have and easely gether information about it. Wish you well, take care ❤️❤️❤️
@@LilithAiCreations you as well! I've also want to know that drinking kombucha daily has helped maintain a healthy gut. It is very acidic and high in sugar, though. But it has increased my energy by 100% and help with my GERD. I take vitamin d, b and kombucha daily.
@@ms.hotdoglegs614 Wow thanks for info. I'll try vitamin D 😍 we don't have kombucha in my country, but we have vitamin D. I'll try defenetley. Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
So, I don’t take Antacid (Tums) that much. Will it still work for me to get rid of my acid reflux (GERD)?
Can I take apple cider vinegar in pills? I found apple cider vinegar pills on Amazon. I wanted to know if it’s okay to take the pill form?
Can you make a video on Barrett's Esophagus? I don't know if the remedies would be the same.
Thank you Dr. Berg! I'm going to use these suggestions.
I'm noticing more & more of your ads on UA-cam. Congratulations 🎉
What is gastritis and how can u fix it naturally
Dr Berg How long Should we take Betaine HCl.
Not if you have a hiatal hernia! None of this worked until I had acid reflux surgery and that saved my life and feel the best!
Which surgery precisely?
Surgery is not a guarantee...I know so many people in trouble. This is the problem with missinformation, not everyone id the same. For some people all these things work, for others, surgery works. I know lots of people who did surgery and they wished they never did it. Everyone is different, research your issue and find your solution well.
He literally said in the video if there’s pain it’s a different issue
For now
From pain to purpose is the saying in the holistic field.
I have Bile gastritis, can you do an updated video on this please.
Hey bro . How you going bro
Honestly, thank you. This video is such a gift because it delves into the surrounding organs and how they impact the incidence of heartburn. Thank you very much.
You're absolutely welcome!
My husband had very bad heartburn. We have been carnivores for 4 1/2 months now. After the first 2 weeks he has had no acid reflux at all. Stopped taking the meds.
Excellent video. I have sent it to a friend of mine. I have tried to tell her that her acid reflux happens because of low stomach acid but she doesn't think that makes any sense. Maybe she'll listen to you.🙂❤
Hi Dr. Burke, I hope you and your family are doing well. I start having really acid reflux and heartburn after I start taking cinnamon powder for a couple days and no matter what I do is not going away please let me know what else I can do it because I tried apple cider vinegar and not working 😣😣😣😫😫
Hey Dr. Berg, tomorrow will be our holly month of RAMADAN,(dry fadting from sun raise to sun set ) what shall we eat in for our early and evening meal on keto
This is also the way that I found out about Keto. Started by taking ACV to sort out my acid reflux and then looked at other Dr Berg videos, so glad I did this
My husband has to take Prilosec every day or he gets heartburn. He tried taking apple cider vinegar but it gave him instant heartburn. He’s been suffering with heartburn since he was 15. I would love for him to get off the Prilosec
Raw cabbage juice or raw potato juice healed my horrible heartburn drink empty stomach it will cost your heartburn injury try it for 7 days
Anything help?
How old is he now?
Praying,Healthy diet,no overeating, exercise n slowly reduce the dosage of medicine till u don't need it anymore
@@titanium1223 He suffered from heartburn since he was 15. Tried everything possible. The only thing that helps is if he takes a Prilosec every day. He’s in good shape so don’t know why he suffers so bad from it.
Can you make a video on Barrett's Esophagus? I'm not sure if the remedies would be the same. I've been taking pantoprozole but would like not to. As soon as I stop taking it I'm in so much pain.
Worth an ask, thanks!
I am 11 days into carnivore and will start normal keto after 1 month. 10 years of heartburn stopped within 3 days. No more asthma either.
Seriously!!! That s awesome!! Im getting prepared to do keto and fasting. Clearing out my fridge and mind.
I too have asthma, I wonder why it helps that??
@@denisemartin3603 For me I am pretty sure the asthma was mainly being caused by GERD, which was caused by excess gas from an overgrowth of bacteria, which itself was probably caused by malabsorption of carbs. I have not confirmed this with any tests but it explains many things in my life.
Does anyone know if ACV is ok for people with Ulcerative Colitis... thanks
You forgot one side effect of antacids, liver disease. Apparently the liver loves an acidic medium just like the stomach. This medium kills certain bugs. But on antacids, the liver pH changes and now the bugs can thrive.
I went on keto for a year and probably only got reflux 3-4 times in that year. I came off keto 😢and back to carbs etc and have meds daily again😢 am back to keto after this Christmas ❤
Mine was gluten
I read that people with gastroparesis shouldn’t do apple cider vinegar? Thoughts? Because that’s me with Gerd.
oh I love my Docta!!! He is soooo fine!! Thank you for taking care of your people. We love you.
I have had LPR for a while now. If it is indeed caused by low acid then things like lemon juice should work but taking lemon juice makes it worse for me.
I suffered all the time with extreme heartburn. It used to wake me up, choking & burning my throat. Was very scary when I struggled to breathe.
So I changed some simple things. I have ET and Arthritis so my mobility is limited, but I use my spin bike 35mins a day. I don't eat after 8pm. No chocolate/ snacks in the evening. No fast food at all. No spicy meals. Apple cider vinegar and hour before I go to bed. 1 year on and no heartburn at all. A good night's sleep is underrated 😊.
Wow! Thanks for sharing
I will try it. 👍
@ThandoPortiaZuma-em4sq Still no heartburn at all. I'm currently not able to use my spin bike, but not eating after 8 pm, esp chocolate or any heavy meals ( meat), has completely changed my sleep.
Dr Berg, can you please talk about adult-onset sandifer syndrome that is often misdiagnosed as epilepsy? The cause, natural remedies, treatments, symptoms,..
Love this stuff, but I do wish he spoke on how long these different remedies could take. Dr Berg, it would be great if you included this part.
