    Video of some 2020 winter wheat harvest on a family farm (Poss Farms) near Hugo Colorado.
    In this video the farm is harvesting their 2020 winter wheat crop with their 3 Case IH 7240 combines all equipped with Shellbourne XCV 42 stripper heads. Hauling the wheat from the combines is the farms Case IH 580 Quad Trac tractor pulling a J&M 1326 Grain Cart.

    Great video again! My wife and I were in Hogo 6 years ago. They have a very nice ranch rodeo at their fair grounds in late June.Lots and lots of open farm ground there. Not many people around. Had never been that far west. Like to go back someday. Thanks. Don’t see that much from a car 🚗 window. Lots of very big fields.

    At 18:40 to 19:01 it’s like setting there in the grass watching the huge buffalo go by. Only now it’s wheat. Beautiful golden wheat and noisy red machines. Eating up that grain for AMERICAN families. God bless us every one!

      When we harvest corn I drive my small 400 hp max combine and son drives the cart because 1/3 combining time the combine is dumping on the 1100 bu cart. It takes 20 minutes to get a semi load so I get to stop if the trucks loading is more than 1/4 mile from the combine. If we used the other cart then we would need another truck. When will it stop? JD X9 can harvest 7,000 bu per hr!

    The best thing about those stripper-headers is just how fast you can move with them. They actually reduce ground compression as well as machine wear in the combines. If they get any better we could end up back in the old days of the harvester not threshing in the field but simply loading the harvest into trailers that are threshed more accurately elsewhere. Taking a few tons of equipment off the wheels would make a huge difference in ground pressure.

  • @onionfriend9799

    The Shelbourne stripper header is the Cadillac of wheat headers. Conventional platforms aren’t very popular in Colorado because there are very few acres of soybeans. Generally wheat, corn, sorghum

    Another excellent video Mike and a good back story as well. Those stripper heads really allow for higher combine ground speeds, I guess there is much less plant material passing through the combine. It looked like mostly only chaff exiting the rear.
    You made me feel good with your explanation of the turning ‘corners’ left until the end. I do this same thing playing Farming Simulator, thought I was just being sloppy. Nice to see a real life application.
    Keep up the good work!

    So many advantages.. less material going into machine.has to be a great advantage.. slightly faster harvest speeds..
    What are the biggest drawbacks to stripper headers..???

    • @gregorsleigh1130
      @gregorsleigh1130 3 роки тому +5

      The straw is left behind using a stripper header and many farmers want to use or sell the straw. It could be mowed & baled after harvest but that would cost more than combining it normally & baling it.
      Not all min-till methods will manage to plant the next cropping through all that long straw left behind. It also wouldn't be possible to plough down that much straw. Better to use the combine to harvest & chop it. Modern combine choppers obliterate straw.
      Not all crops work with a stripper header and therefore you need to buy an additional header alongside a more standard header.
      One advantage you didn't mention is that usually any dampness in a crop is at the base of the straw, because only the grain heads receive direct sun. A standard header/combine taking in the straw with the grain heads transfers some of that dampness to the grain, increasing the grain moisture content slightly. A stripper header avoids this.

    • @onionfriend9799
      @onionfriend9799 3 роки тому +2

      For cutting strictly wheat the stripper head is the only way to go. At one time they had issues with large green weeds but I think the design has overcome that now
