    Everyone keeps saying those machines are going too fast . But here in Michigan we farm 5200 acres of wheat corn and soybeans plus we custom farm for others. we cut wheat with 2 s680 combines with 40 foot truflex razor heads at 7 mph in 120 bushel wheat just fine with little loss. If you have your machines set right you can travel at a decent speed . These guys probably have upgraded concaves sieves and other upgrades to the machines to maximize efficiency. If you custom harvest like my family does we have to move quickly or someone else will harvest the crop and we will lose money . We custom harvest 4 to 6 thousand acres between wheat corn and soybeans. Nice video keep up the good work !

      I don't think anyone said they were going too fast, just that they were going fast. I think you are a little jealous because of the video and the good comments about the Gleaner. You then had to puff your chest out a little bit about how good your almighty 680's are so not to be out done. Lets see the video of 7mph in 120 bushel wheat doing just fine.

      @@terrybraun4175 I'm not jealous at all I started out running gleaners they are great machines. I wasn't bragging I was explaining how we harvest . Sorry if I sounded that way but you got the wrong idea. Any machine that works good for the particular operation or person is fine . Besides that my comment was for Mike less not you . There is another video where some guy was complaining about the operator had his reel running too fast. But when you are watching a video, that can be deceiving
      on how fast something is actually running.
      I have put in a lot of hours on gleaners thru the years. I spent the summer of 1971 on 1970 Gleaner G. We had four of them on the harvest run. They had a 20 ft. header
      and 3 speed manual transmissions with variable speed and 135 gallon fuel tanks over the walkers which let us run about 3 days on a fuel up. The one big drawback was they
      didn't have AC, just blower motors. You could turn them off for a while, then when you turned them back on, it felt like AC. All in all, they were good machines and i don't
      think we had any major problems with them the whole summer. In 1985 I made a harvest run and ran an N7 which I really liked driving. I have a cousin I usually help out
      with his local harvest with an R 60 air cooled engine. Gleaners are great machines.

    Cool to see a truck on duty in the field. We had tandem trucks but we unloaded on the go into those and my dad did all the combining. He was particularly in tune with his L2, keep loss low but speed up, not harvesting wet unless needed, always tested moisture, looked like a briefcase. We swathed a lot on the old Versatile 400. During the time when farming still really beat a mans body. No air ride tractors or seats. AC worked in the L2, rarely in the 8550.

    Summer of 71 I was catching grain on the go from an early 60's Gleaner (don't remember the model) with a 68 Chevy 2 1/2 ton. 3 dumps and race to the bin then back to the field. That Gleaner had an 80 bushel bin. If I didn't make it he would have put it in the old 49 Chevy an I didn't want to drive the old truck! 16 foot header and 40 bushel wheat, I had about 20 minutes between dumps.

    20" a year that's funny maybe on a wet year, more like 12" to 15" and this year was a hot dry year, we only got one rain last summer and of course it brought bad hail with it, so took out about 2/3's of the 3,300 acres we farm just 100 miles south west of there between Scottsbluff and Alliance Nebraska. I'm surprised you didn't mention we raise edible beans, a lot of people have no clue about that and of that 80-90 percent of all Great Northern Beans are raised here in Western Nebraska. and of course them dam sugar beet's also. Always like Gleaners, it's one of the first combines I learned how to work on, simple design and easy to work on. Shame not more of them are around here, but not a very good dealer network for them here. So mostly see them red things here and what we run Green ones! Enjoy watching the variety you show on your vid's keep up the good work, and next time your in my area be happy to show ya around our farm!

    • @markam306
      @markam306 3 роки тому

      Ovidiu,
      I just looked into this myself and it would be quite involved to fit it into one video. I would suggest watching individual videos put out by the manufactures. To give you a start, the name combine was used as these machines combine 3 different operations: 1 reaping, the cutting of the grain plant. This is done in the header and is easily seen from the front of the machine. 2 threshing, this is separating the grain from the rest of the plant, and 3 winnowing, which is separating the chaff from the grain, which is the husk (sheath) on the outside of the grain. These last two are done inside in machine out of view. The whole center of the combine is a factory doing this work. The manufacturers have cutaway animation to illustrate all the moving parts.
      I will continue in another post for the sake of length.

    • @markam306
      @markam306 3 роки тому

      Part 2
      There are three basic designs used in combines, with a couple of variations:
      1. Conventional combine: the reaped plant is fed from the header into the feeder housing. The chain in the feeder housing moves the plants to a drum, transverse to the machine, which has ‘beaters’ rotating inside. The grain is separated from the plant and most of the chaff is removed from the kernel. All the material then passes rearward in the machine where the straw is caught and shaken by a system of ‘straw walkers’. The grain falls to one of several grates where it is separated from the chaff and other pieces of the plant.
      2. Axial flow, or rotary combines. These were first introduced by International Harvester years ago. The feeder house delivers the plant material to one or two rotors, surrounded by wire cages/grates called concaves. The rotors are long, and the whole plant travels in a spiral around the turning rotor moving toward the rear of the combine. The grain falls through the concaves onto cleaning grates where a fan system blows air to remove anything lighter than the kernel. The advantage of a rotary combine is throughput capacity. They are higher maintenance as the feed & rotors wear faster. Most combines sold today use this type of layout. The smaller models have one rotor while the largest have two rotors side by side. In the two rotor machines each rotor processes half the plant material.
      2A, hybrid: Klass combines are made with the threshing machinery of both types above. The plant material is fed from the feeder house to a threshing drum as in type 1 above. After this it is fed to longitudinal rotors for separation as in type 2 above. Since Klass uses these two stages of threshing they have even more capacity than other combines.
      3. Transverse rotor, natural plant flow. Gleaner combines are different than any other. They have one rotor which is larger in diameter and shorter than the axial flow above. The rotor is mounted transverse to the machine and has open concaves all the way around the rotor (360 degrees). Gleaner also has a different design to their grain - chaff separation machinery. Gleaners advantage is cleaner grain, less wasted grain discharged with the straw, ability to work on slopes and other tough conditions, and faster to changeover from one crop to another. They are also lighter and consume less power than axial flow rotary combines. Their disadvantage is throughput, as the capacity is limited by the width of the combine.
