I was in high school when Zep hit the scene. As a huge Beatle fan, I like to say that Zep wiped the smiles off our faces and opened us to a whole new world. Even better, my parents hated them.
It's funny that you say that it sounds like you're on mushrooms or acid because most of us teenagers back then were on Acid, l know that my friends and I were, MORE ZEPPELIN PLEASE ✌️🤩
You both bring valuable insights to the music. La’s on point with his assessment of the break in the middle. Paige and Plant are echoing each other through the whole reprieve…and so are Bonz and JPJ… When you have an ear to dig the underbelly you recognize it…but if you’re in the moment just vibing…You’re losing your goddamn mind while everything you hold holy is blown to smithereens. 😔🤘 It’s a breath too…they give you what they started with throughout.
Too funny! Shrooms & Acid! We don’t have to imagine…we remember! Lol quite a few parties, Campfires, or just layin low in the basement (black lights, lava lamps, fluorescent posters, weed 💨!) These albums were what molded us “young people” …. So Many Incredible Bands putting out Amazing music!
You’ve got Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Prince and so many more but Jimmy Page will always have my vote for the GOAT. If you watch this live, be prepared for when he starts playing the guitar with a violin bow!
When this was released back in the day I chose this particular song as a theme for my slideshow presentation in high school. The teacher was absolutely floored and gave me an A+ thanks to Led Zeppelin!
In Jr High I read Edgar Allan Poe's The Bells to a song from the first Black Sabbath album. The song the starts with all the bells chiming and gets real deep.
"You're time is gonna come", "What is and what should never be", "Ten years gone", "Babe I'm gonna leave you"....! These Zeppelin tracks are EPIC...!!!
I love you guys! You get it. I was there when this all came out and society as a whole didn't get it! Zeppelin was before their time, and only a few fit into this category back then. My parents heard this, and my brother and sisters heard it, because I was locked into my room blaring this shit out. And they were worried about me. Haha! I still got into society and bonded within the work world with all of my radical tunes being dragged right along with me. It's a pleasure to hear you guys feeling this, how I listened to it over 55 years ago.
It blows me away that this was their first album. This song told the world what to expect: 4 Excellent band members, a single song covering blues, hard rock and psychedelic music. Each band member had their moment to shine. My favorite of theirs.
I can't decide if I like this song most, or How Many More Times the most (of all Zeppelin songs). It's soooo hard to chose. They're so powerful and unique and incredible on the BULK of almost every album... that's one of a kind On the same album. add... Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, and I Can't Quit You Babe Add these twp more song to four of Zepp's all time tooop 10. All four are that supreme And they're all on the first album...🙈🙉🙊 💯 Astonishing 💢 👽 Unbeatable 💦 I don't think that it's silly or exaggerated to say that it's as if Zeppelin (on this first album alone) channeled Back, Mozart, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky
Glad you caught that call and response between Plant and Page. You'll hear more of that as you move through the songs in their catalog. Some of the sounds you heard in the middle of the song was Page playing his guitar with a violin bow. These guys are the best of the best. One never knew what to expect on a first listen of any of their songs, and every song is like a magical music ride. Thanks for another great reaction.
We tried recording Babe I’m gonna leave you studio version but we had issues with the audio so we just moved on to the next song. But we love the studio version. So different than the live.
@@AirplayBeats Sorry you had the audio issues but glad you had a chance to listen to it. Live v. studio were often very different, which is why I personally think it's best for people new to Zeppelin to listen to the studio versions first anyway because Zepplein often liked to improvise during live performances, sometimes throwing in bits of other songs, or making stuff up on the spot going wherever any one of them felt like going at the time. They never performed a song the same way twice so if one isn't familiar with the actual song, one can't really appreciate just how creative they were even during a live performance. Anyway, thanks so much for thinking of mentioning the issues you had with the studio version of Babe I'm Gonna Leave You. Very thoughtful of you. :)
Nice catch hearing the call and response between Jonesy & Bonzo as well as Plant & Page, not many hear it. Page is using a bow on his guitar during those weird noises, well worth watching a video of it for yourselves even if you don't do a reaction video.
Great reaction 😊 The Blues had such a huge influence on kids growing up in bombed out post WW2 Britain and they couldn't get enough of black American music, coming in through the ports and pirate radio, then brought them over on tours of the UK and Europe which gave many a real lease of life for the rest of their careers
I go back and forth between this and Ramble On (and sometimes a couple of others) as my favorite LZ song. Today, I feel Dazed and Confused... ...is their greatest recorded individual piece of music. It's perfect, and it perfectly, musically sums up the band. (...and, but, yet, also, there's In My Time of Dying, too, so...there's that...as well.)😎👍
Robert Plant & Jimmy Page were always doing "call and response" in many of their songs!! Please watch them live...there's nothing like it!🎵🎸 There are many songs from their 1973 concert at Madison Square-Garden, but "Since Ive Been Loving You" is them at their absolute best!!🎵 Robert Plant's stage presence and his-ability to just pull you in with his astounding vocals is-something you must see!! From the same concert Dazed And Confused, is amazing and they stretch it out for about 25 minutes...they were the masters of not only music, but of improv!! The entire concert was filmed and became a movie titled "The Song Remains-The Same" which is also a great song. Another live performance that is something to see is "In My Time Of Dying" at Earls-Court 1975🎸🎵 Also, they have a few really great acoustic songs including "Thats-The-Way" and "Going To California" live from Earls Court🎶
Jimmy + cello bow + guitar = greatness. No one has dared to try this live since jimmy. Definetly one of the best guitarist of all time with soooo much imagination to do the things he did! Also thou "the silent giant" goes ham on this song too
I have heard this song a lot. I was born in '62 so I have heard it a LOT. It still causes chills down my arms when I hear it. Every dang time. It is a wicked wicked great song.
The first time I saw LZ play this song, it was amazing. When Jimmy Page started with the violin bow, they had green lasers coming down from the ceiling on top of him. The lasers started spinning slowly and then faster. Pretty soon it was this green haze surrounding JP while he was playing and it was surreal.
Its awesome you all try to analyze our music. It was a great time in history. The 60,s the 70,s the 80,s then it starts changing the music after those years. This band is all about the 4 of them. NO one else....watch them in concert
I echo a commenter, best Zeppelin reactions on UA-cam. You guys actually understand instruments and chemistry and improv and you express your thoughts well. Keep going. Go through their catalogue from beginning to end, the best way.
What's crazy about that middle section is that there's a double call and response going on. Team 1: The bass and the drums, and Team 2: The vocals and the guitar.
Jimmy is using a violin bow not a cello bow and Jimmy got the idea from actor David McCallum (he was in a few brilliant movies like The Great Escape and on the tv show NCIS) father who was a violinist and suggested to Jimmy that he should try it and that is how he got the idea and i also talked to Jimmy about it and he confirmed it but somehow people to this day keep saying it was a cello bow (which is shorter than a violin bow) and it wasn't, so just letting you know because i will probably get comments telling me iam wrong even though i confirmed it straight from the horses mouth but i will not repond because it goes nowhere 🙄...great reaction!
Love your video's guy's, especially Zeppelin my favorite band. Jimmy Page uses a violin bow in the middle of the song to get those erie sounds, you should check it out live absolutely awesome. Actually, anything Live from Madison Square Garden 1973 is a huge hit!! Led Zeppelin was part of what was considered the British invasion. Most of all the biggest bands came from there. I Hope you consider doing something Live from Madison square Garden, you'll see them in action at the average age of 24
LOVE watching your reactions!!! Jimmy plays a violin bow to make those spacey sounds. And you are both right, these four guys were all top level musicians, Robert is playing the harmonica and he def has a talented tongue 😜 Watch them live doing this song, it'll blow your mind even more!
Definitely have to see the live version of this. The MSG 1973 concert is an epic 30 minute intense experimentation. You'll get to see Page with the bow. A must see.
About UK bands, in the 70' wait to you get to Classic Prog and the Greatest musicians in bands like Genesis w/Gabriel 70-75'/ Yes/ King Crimson/ Jethro Tull/ Pink Floyd/ ELP/ Gentle Giant/ Nektar and many more !! You have a great voyage ahead of you !! 👍🎵🎸🎹🥁🎻🎷🎤🎶🎼✌
You gentlemen have broken it down nicely. They are arguably the best band ever. It isn't even close for me at least in this category. Top Shelf for me hands down. These musicians are at the top of their game at such an early age.
Great reaction, gentlemen! It's awesome to see that Led Zeppelin is still gaining a fan base 50 years later. Plant is STILL killing it with vocals, presently touring with Alison Krause (they won a Grammy together about 15 years ago). There are 2 monster songs that you must hear: "When the Levee Breaks" is a deep bluesy cover of a song written 2 generations ago, to commemorate the 1937 Mississippi Flood. It shows Plant's incredible harmonica skills, and Bonham performed the drum track in a stairwell for extra effect! The other is the live performance of "Kashmir" from Celebration Day...a reunion concert performed by a much older ( some would say, even better?) LZ and with Bonham's son Jason sitting in on drums and showing that his Dad's legacy continues. I subbed for Stevie Ray Vaughan...but am enjoying your Led Zeppelin reactions very much!
This was Zep’s first album, released in 1969 (I was 14). I vividly remember listening to this record for the first time at a friend’s house. No other band at the time sounded like this. Shortly after I brought this album home, my dad bought me my first set of headphones. Go figure.
I grew up on Led Zep. This is one of their best. I love y'all's take on this. Speaking as a man, married for some 40 years, the lyrics are so true. You know, every rose has its thorns....
There's a lot of Zeppelin reactions out there and they are all fun to watch - but I just love the way you guys get into it and dissect the brilliance of each of the musicians and how they blend together to make a greater whole. Fantastic stuff gentlemen.
Hope you guys keep reacting to Zeppelin. They legit have like 50 awesome songs. They were unparalleled musically. My favorite LZ song is Fool In The Rain, please add it to your list! It really showcases their unique talents.
LOVE the Tag Team Wrestling match analogy bro! You both nailed the proper reactions to this incredible classic. Keep going down the rabbit hole of this, thee GOAT Rock Band ever, NO EQUAL!
Just a few of the most influential bands that debuted in 1969: Led Zeppelin Santana Chicago Transit Authority King Crimson The Allman Brothers Blind Faith Carpenters Crosby, Stills & Nash Yes All of these albums deserve a listen. It was a hell of a year.
Cream, Black Sabbath, Grand Funk Railroad, Z Z Top.....'69-'70 was my senior year in high school. I saw Zeppelin in 1970, my first concert and first acid trip!🤯 It was a great time to be young and crazy!💯🤪❤️✌️
Page was performing his version of this song with the Yardbirds, before forming Led Zeppelin. In 1967, while touring with the Yardbirds, Page saw Jake Holmes perform the song in New York. On the first Led Zeppelin album, the band's version was credited solely to Jimmy Page. A 2010 lawsuit appears to have been settled out of court, the case being dismissed and Holmes being added to the songwriting credit. It now reads "by Jimmy Page, inspired by Jake Holmes." A number of songs by Led Zeppelin were "inspired" by other original songwriters. Shows you expensive lawyers can get you out of a lot of legal scrapes. LOL.
Absolutely there is no original music , it's just recycled , the classical masters now that was some original music and even they took from one another. Music is meant to be shared that way, what makes it original is the artist !!!
Jimmy was inspired by Eddie Phillips of the British group The Creation doing it first on "Making Time," a single released in 1966 on Shel Talmy's Planet label (Talmy was The Who's manager as well).
Great video & deconstructing of this iconic track, thank you both. ❤️🙏 I’m 48 & from England. I’ve grown up listening to electronic music my whole life & predominantly DnB, but can vividly remember my dad sitting me in the front room at around 13 yrs old & putting this album on & his headphones, saying just this “listen to this, tell me what you think once it’s finished”. Dazed & Confused, to this day is one of my favourite pieces of music ever, of all genres. Maybe what pushed me in to electronic music if you think about it. The endless, cascading rolling drums, the baselines that rip your stomach & the off beat melodies that hook you in! So maybe, just maybe, Dazed & Confused was the beginning of my love for Electronic music. Either way, I adore it! Thanks again guys, & thanks dad. ❤️
I have seen Plant 4 times, once with Page. Plant is like a fine wine, he only gets better with age. Just think how young he was when he recorded this. It’s amazing the talent the band had at such young ages.
What I like most about your channel is that I seem to learn something new from you two every time you play one of these great, nostalgic songs. You keep playing them, I'll keep tuning in. TY
Eventually you’ll have to watch the live version from MSG in 73….. I don’t have the words….film is called “ The Song Remains the Same” the also have a song by the same name. It’s like a front row seat the GOATS him there prime… The more you react to Zeppelin the more you will understand just how special of a band they were. Love your reactions, look forward to seeing more. Great job
Am loving your reactions, guys! Greetings from Hamburg, Germany! :-D About that instrumental part in Dazed and Confused where Page's guitar sounds like "on acid, like a scary movie" - Page was playing his guitar with a (Cello?) bow and making weird sounds with it! The push in sound effect and recording tech back in the 60s and the late '60s drug culture brought on Psychedellic music, and so voilà, Led Zep did that, too, masterfully. Really appreciate how you guys are actually listening to the different instruments, esp. the drums; Bonzo is a monster! I've read that he was inspired by James Brown, which I TOTALLY hear and FEEL in Bonzo's drumming and Led Zeppelin's play! Been vibing with this music since I was 16 and I'm 52 now and still feeling this music deep deep, it's just so great. I'd love to see you guys listen to "When The Levy Breaks" - the drum track a classic! Its sample was heavily used by a whole bunch of Hip Hop artists. I def recommend listening to the studio versions first, please do Babe, I'm Gonna Leave you" again, so much better on original version. Misty Mountain Hop, When The Levee Breaks, Ramble On, Immigrant Song, Your Time is Gonna Come, Communication Breakdown, Stairway to Heaven, etc. It' an anwesome repertoire. Last thing: Try to avoid the generic "Led Zeppelin track with hectic video visuals" on YT; wit LZ music I reckon it's really vital to focus on the sonic experience. Enjoy!
Was just cruising on down and saw you had reacted to this song many moons. THANK YOU for giving it the recognition it so deserves. This song is a masterpiece and one of my top 4 songs by them. Ramble On, Nobody's Fault But Mine and Bring It On Home. Robert Plants harmonica and that blues sound can give a person chills. Not to take anything away from John Bonham, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones. They're in a league all their own. ❤
Another one of THE greatest songs ever made and it's again by Led Zeppelin. You guys should check out the movie and watch them live. Great way to kill two birds at once. So much history surrounds this band. BTW - at some point later when you've heard more OG studio tracks then you can listen to the stuff Page and Plant put out when they toured together and released 5 Led Zeppelin songs that they re-interpret with a more middle eastern vibe adding the Egyptian Pharaoh's band and Santa Monica city orchestra!!! I suggest doing the Irvine Meadows show and start at 1:52:25 for the encore KASHMIR which is another of the GREATEST SONGS EVER MADE!!! Obviously no John Bonham (RIP GOAT) and no JPJ but they got some real pro's filling in trust me! You should hear the studio version first so you recognize the differences.
"Can you imagine being on acid to this song?" Why yes, yes I can 😵💫
😂😂😂
🤣
😂😂😂😂
Being on acid to any Led Zeppelin song is like meeting God. Or Satan depending if you are entirely obsessed with yourself.

Robert Plant was all of TWENTY years-old when he belted out these gut-wrenching vocals. Dude had some pipes, no?
Serious pipes!!!
he was sooo sexy...!

Jimmy Page is playing the guitar with a cello bow. The 28 minute live version from MSG 1973 is the greatest guitar solo ever recorded!
His signature, that's why no one else would ever tread there, greatness.
I think Nigel Tuffnell played a 33 minute solo on Sex Farm Women,EPIC,I think he used a tampon string.

You two do the best Led Zeppelin reactions I’ve seen. Thank you!
Jimmy used a violin bow on his guitar. It's beautiful.
You guys got it exactly. One of the best of the 20th C.
Props goes to songwriter and originator Jake Holmes.
Thank you
This was Zep’s first album, released in 1969 (I was 14).
I vividly remember listening to this record for the first time at a friend’s house.
No other band at the time sounded like this.
Shortly after I brought this album home, my dad bought me my first set of headphones.
Go figure.
Jimmy Page was a session guitarist in London in the early-mid 60s - always in demand.
This song…yes this song…changed my entire perspective on rock n roll almost 50 years ago! The classics NEVER AGE!
I grew up on Led Zep. This is one of their best. I love y'all's take on this. Speaking as a man, married for some 40 years, the lyrics are so true. You know, every rose has its thorns....
Thank you so much for watching
Pretty neat how a violin bow sounds on a Gibson Les Paul.
Very COOL...
Glad to see you guys listen to what I grew up on. Keep it up.
Bought it new in '68 and still listening..
There's a lot of Zeppelin reactions out there and they are all fun to watch - but I just love the way you guys get into it and dissect the brilliance of each of the musicians and how they blend together to make a greater whole. Fantastic stuff gentlemen.
These geniuses take you places…..let them- it’s one hell of a ride! ❤️🎶❤️
Hope you guys keep reacting to Zeppelin. They legit have like 50 awesome songs. They were unparalleled musically.
My favorite LZ song is Fool In The Rain, please add it to your list! It really showcases their unique talents.
We will probably go through the whole Led Zeppelin catalog.
@@AirplayBeats THANK, THANK, THANK! BIG "LED HEAD" HERE✌️
Magnificent 🔥🔥🔥🔥
LOVE the Tag Team Wrestling match analogy bro! You both nailed the proper reactions to this incredible classic. Keep going down the rabbit hole of this, thee GOAT Rock Band ever, NO EQUAL!
Just a few of the most influential bands that debuted in 1969:
Led Zeppelin
Santana
Chicago Transit Authority
King Crimson
The Allman Brothers
Blind Faith
Carpenters
Crosby, Stills & Nash
Yes
All of these albums deserve a listen. It was a hell of a year.
And Cream, Rush, Z Z Top, Grand Funk Railroad, e Black Sabbath and more! I turned 17 in '69....what a great time to be young, wild, and stoned!💯🤗🤯❤️✌️
I debuted in '69.
LOL.
Stop! Everyone borrows inspirational songs...
Absolutely there is no original music , it's just recycled , the classical masters now that was some original music and even they took from one another. Music is meant to be shared that way, what makes it original is the artist !!!
oh fuck off. this song is 99.9% different from Holmes' song aside from the words 'dazed and confused.'
They lifted some old songs out of obscurity and into greatness
Jimmy uses a violin bow on his guitar! They are the greatest band ever!!
Jimmy was inspired by Eddie Phillips of the British group The Creation doing it first on "Making Time," a single released in 1966 on Shel Talmy's Planet label (Talmy was The Who's manager as well).
Great video & deconstructing of this iconic track, thank you both. ❤️🙏
I’m 48 & from England.
Page is making those eerie sounds by playing the guitar with a cello bow. You'll love this live!!
Great job
LZ were ahead of times. 50 plus years.
Their music was magic! Always overwhelms me with layers of beauty...Great individual musicians gelling together baby!
They were a huge a American blues lovers!
Enjoy!
GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIME!!
@@sandyczarnetzke7141 this might be the first video we ever did if I remember correctly. Thanks for rocking with us!!!
Bow from a violin on that telecaster!
The musicianship of this band is epic
