Yeah you can't go wrong wandering through the Zep catalogue in order. What you will find is their immense versatility. Rock, folk, funk, jazz, reggae, country, blues, celtic, medieval, rockabilly, samba, Indian, eastern. There's no other example of a band who covered this much ground over eight studio records in just over a decade. That's why they were the best. They did it all and did it well.
🤯 That's my entire JHS & HS music I did homework to. 🤔 Starting to realize I spent years tossing on Albums, Motown at my house & Classic Rock at my best friends, doing 😳 decades of just homework 5 days a week. 😏 Could be why I know every word to entire Doors, Stones, Marvin, Stevie, Bowie, Rush, J5 & Queen Albums. 🤗 And with MSG, Meadowlands, Radio City Music Hall & Giant Stadium as my "local Venues", 🤯 I got to see these guys.... i mean black sabbath ran through a lot of genres ; some genres weren’t even a thing at that time. the cherry on top BS didn’t do nearly has much stealing as led did. both groups were friends but the birmingham boys are top
It was no accident their music came together so fast. Page and Jones were both two of the top studio sessions musicians in England, both started working careers in their mid teens and were true savants, They literally played on dozens of hit records for many famous bands, So not only were they top musicians but they also knew nearly everything there was to know about recording music as soon as the band started. Page wanted out of the studio and joined the Yardbirds and when that band broke up he put Led Zeppelin together and the four of them created the best band that ever existed.
Imagine Being In High School listening to this Monster Called Led Zeppelin,,,Just Unbelievable I'm 68,, when I hear this music I feel young again and my pain goes away 🤣🤣🤣
“Oh Rosie! Oh girl!” Gosh, I love this! There’s just something kind of “blech” about someone who doesn’t like Zeppelin. Impossible to overrate this band!
My )2 years older) brother is a great drummer and in high school and when i happenned to be downstairs while he was practicing i'd often bug him to play that uber-funky "Oh Rosie!" break, lol!
In 50 + years of listening, I have never met anyone who doesn't like Zeppelin.. They had get the led out on most fm rock stations in the country every night, probably until 2000.
One of my favorite songs from their debut album. Thanks for another great reaction. I'd vote for reacting to their 2nd album next. A lot of people think it's even better than the 1st, and many in the music industry "critics" arena say it is one of the most influential albums "of all time". Also, by going in album order, you'll experience Zeppelin's progression and evolution as a band. Great stuff! :) After The Yardbirds disbanded in July of 1968, Page began looking to form a new band. He already knew Jones, met Plant and Bonham in August, and they had their first rehearsal as a band on August 19, the day before Plant's 20th birthday. If you can believe it, they actually went on tour September 7, then started recording their debut album immediately upon their return to the UK on the September 25. They recorded it in 36 hours over a 3-week period. Yeah, they were that good and that in sync. Lucky us! :)
How can you possibly go wrong with Zep. No band that came after them was not influenced by them. Great listen to the whole album. You are awesome. The best is yet to come. ✌️🔥
Sonically that first album just sounded better than other rock records back then. Great engineering, production, to go along w/ all the great songs and playing. It was a killer.
Yes, having listened to this era in music for half a century now, I have a good grasp of what the sound quality was ordinarily like and this album just sounds 'crisper' than most others back then. Hard to describe. It's very high quality, probably as good as was technologically possible back in the late '60s.
I bumped into the vocalist Robert Plant 🪴 of Led Zeppelin back in February of 2016! he was shopping 🛍 in Kidderminster of all places! I briefly chatted with him and shook his 👋. - C '23
You’re right, that was Jimmy whipping out his bow again. It gives it that eerie sensation, like something big is about to happen, and it sure does. One of my favorites off this album. Definitely do Zeppelin II, III, IV, Houses, Physical, Presence, In, Coda, live stuff… then you can take a break ;)
“I am the hunter”, is a blues song on itself: check “the hunter”, from “ the free” album: tons of sobs. Paul Rodgers is one of these other great legendary British Blues singers, like Rory Gallagher and Alvin Lee After Freddy passed away he actually sang with queen.
I love the way you guys get it about Led Zep. They wowed me at age 9 when I was just starting to really pay attention to music and that was late 60s early 70s. I’m almost 61 now and they still wow me. Those were four geniuses, legends, rock gods! They still rock my world! Best band of the 70’s
For me personally this is probably the greatest song of all time. Between the hard driving rhythm Pages guitar solo backed up by Johns drumming Plants vocals over that hard rocking sound it's just a buffet for the ears. Idk what can be any better. There's really nothing else like it either. Love it
You were smart going down the rabbit hole and led Zeppelin if you want to know anything about this genre a music of rock and roll starting back in the '70s and the '80s the best way to go
One of my all time favourite songs from this band . Page said that it was almost “ telepathic “ how they played together . You simply can’t bottle this .. All the layers of guitar .. magnificent!
YES - *Please* do the next album and *ALL* the rest - it shouldn't even really be a question. Some may tell you the later albums aren't worth it, but I assure you, they are. Besides, how will you know their worth if you don't hear it and decide for yourself? Here's a bit of timeline to help you; the band had their first rehearsal on August 12, 1968. The first album was released January 1969 in the US and in March in the UK. It was recorded in about 30-36 hours and was paid for by Jimmy Page and was said to cost 1,782 GBP in 1968 which is approximately 36,526 GBP today, or approximately $44,466 USD today. Jimmy produced the album and the band created a company called Superhype to handle the publishing rights. They were signed to Atlantic in November 1968 and given an advance of $143,000 USD (that would be worth over 1 million today). This was an unprecedented sum for an unknown band. As part of their deal, they kept creative control of everything such as tracks, track listing, album artwork and name (or lack thereof), production, etc. Creative control was another unusual thing Zep had going for them. From his time as a session musician and in his time with The Yardbirds, Jimmy had seen many bands get taken advantage of and did his best to ensure something similar wouldn't happen to his band. Some of the musical influences for the group include rock and roll, rockabilly, Motown, blues, R&B, folk, Celtic, jazz, classical, Indian, and North African music, in addition to others. Their music is guaranteed to provide a unique, dynamic experience.
John Bonham(Led Zeppelin), Bill Ward (Black Sabbath)and Vinny Appice (Dio, etc.) were the reason I started drumming, as a kid, and have never stopped. Bonzo was a monster on the kit!! 💪🏼💪🏼
I just remember the night at the local burger joint hangout with the regulars and there was great excitement when someone said, "come you have to hear this band". Eight track tape in the parking lot! I had never heard any music like this. I guess I never will hear a band like this again.
Back in high school and college - especially for finals week - i used to start with Led Zeppelin play all 8 albums in order… then repeat. Made studying fun. When ever i heard Good Times Bad Times it was time to go again!
"How Many More Times" is based on lyrics from blues singer Albert King's song "The Hunter," and much of the song was derived from Howlin' Wolf's "How Many More Years." Some other Led Zeppelin reworkings of blues songs include "You Shook Me" and "The Lemon Song." Everyone in the band except Robert Plant got writing credits for this even though Plant was known for re-arranging standard blues songs with his previous band Hobbstweedle.
I can't wait to see you guys when you get into the early and mid 70's with Zeppelin..It is an experience that will have you acknowledging their greatness..keep up the great work!!
Together for weeks. Recording this in literally hours. If I'm correct. Been a fan since this album was released. Second album I owned I think. First was Sly and the Family Stone. These guy changed my taste for life
The critics hated this album, destroyed it with words, they wanted LZ in the discount rack. But it slowly got exposed and the people loved it, and here we are 50 years later still loving their sounds. Then they released LZ 2 the very same year !!!
Enjoy your experience, your on a beautiful journey with the greatest band ever. Just something to consider, this band came on to the scene in 1969 I was 8 years old then 😂😂😂 it was music that no one had ever heard before and it was considered dark kinda of music but you were mesmerized by the sounds 😮😮 even today, incredible.
This is what you call the perfect album, there is not one bad song. Some records are perfect side B. This had both. when they all jammed at the first time. they all knew they would be bigtime. Peter Grant Zepplin's manager made damn sure that wherever they toured Zeppelin would get 90 percent profit, if not, you won't have Zeppelin play in their arena. It helped for Grant being 6ft5 and huge, no one messed with him lol. The studio tricks were a huge influence of Les Paul the man, the creation of the Les Paul guitar, the innovator, he also knew how to multitrack and where to put the mics. That's where you get the big sound. Jimmy Page studied how to record long before Led Zep while he was one of the top session guitarists out there.
Peter Grant changed the game for ALL bands. It used to be the reverse, where the promoters used to get 90% because they had control over the venues/concert halls/arenas. Peter Grant was also a bouncer, boxed, and was a professional wrestler in the U.K. in a time when all pro wrestlers used to know how to "shoot," meaning legit submission wrestlers and knew how to fight in "the clinch" when locking up on the ground. And yes, his size was also a factor.
I was 17 when this album came out. It was a complete departure from music that had preceded it and as a young man close to the height of testosterone blood concentration, it REALLY hit home. All the Blues wailing about women! Anyway, the first time I heard the album, I just couldn't wrap my head around how good it was on a variety of levels. Musically, lyrically, the "mood" of the album, the musicianship, the vocals - everything about it. Now, at 70, it's entertaining to live vicariously through other people's first "hearing". Well done.
It is incredible how great every single song is on the album... It starts off with the bar set so high, and then just crushes it straight through... As you go forward, II, III, IV, Houses of the Holy, Physical Graffiti... they cover so much ground, Houses of the Holy in particular, they essentially become a whole different band, but somehow keep the bar at that crazy high level... PG is so wild, but also great... basically, There isn't a single weak track until their 7th album (6 is a double album), and even in the 7th album, it's still good...
Awesome..This is my favorite Zep song of all, it really showcases everything they do. Excellent point about Plant singing blues over a rock beat...never thought of it that way allthough it should have been so obvious...lol
Great album, great review. You do such a better job than many other channels because you actually can pick apart things and you have a true appreciation for the music. I was 16 when this came out and it was up there with me. Transitioned me from psychedelia to hard rock and paved the way for my taste for punk rock. A break through album at the time.
So badass and so beautiful inside the same song !!! Thanks for fewer interuptions here. I know how hard it is when you get excited to sit on it, but it's so much better to not bust up the flow. We'll wait for your thoughts. It's so excellent to watch this trail of discovery you're on !!! Keep 'em coming !!!

Not radio friendly, thats what makes it great.
Would hate how bands would tailor there music for radio play but I understand you have to make a few $$ also

That's right
the live stuff is even better....1969, 1970,1971...when they played most of the I-II-III-IV
Without question!
Too bad they didn't give the actual writers of several songs a Writing Credits. Kinda shitty?
@@markdemos75 I have read all about it, but doesn't change the fact they're the best band ever.
People would pay 2,000-3,000 a ticket, me included, today to see prime Led Zep live in concert.
Bonham and Plant were 20 years old here, Jones was 22, Jimmy the "old man" at 24.
Fusion without confusion.
saw them in '73, standing 20 feet from the stage looking up at Jimmy- incredible stuff, and when he pulled out that violin bow, we all fell out

One of the “heaviest “ debut albums of all time. Changed a lot of people for the better.
JPJ has said that at their first rehearsal he said out loud: "Oh fuck". It was that obvious.
Jimmy is making that guitar sing the band are outstanding
You guys being musicians yourselves are able to fully appreciate all the little nuances that made Zeppelin great.
I vote for going in order so you can experience their progression over the years and hear them the same way we did.
Love the "walking" bass line in this. John Paul Jones was such an underrated bassist.
Bullshit, he's known as one of the best. What you smokin?
The GREATEST debut album, EVER.
It took 6 months from their first rehearsal together to Conquer America.
