@@rattango9819 Well some of their games are already like that for me, so. I personally don't care for anything they've done really outside of the Half-Life series itself.
My thoughts on all this (feel free to comment your thoughts): Submarine- it would probably be more of an action game than a stealth game, you play as the submarine and operate the crew but not going through the submarine. As they said not focused much on stealth. Prospero- Think of this as that GMod fan-made movie (War of the worlds one), where you go through servers and play on others creations but you can do a collab and have some kind of an event where it affects the servers by the same enemies or something. Furthermore, you can have a Might & Magic type of story, where you follow one lore but can go to another world (server) and there would be whole different lore for that world, created by the community. Valve's Team Fortress- Not much to say other than just TFC but different skins. Threewave- HL: Deathmatch Beta if you will TF2 XBox- Nothing much, just a port. Differences would be just that gameplay would fit an XBox not PC. TF2: BOA- Nothing new except I believe that the concept of a 'leader' can work even in today's TF2. IF done right. CS2 - My theory is that what goose wanted is essentially Rainbow Six: Siege but in the Source engine. TF2: Invasion- Nothing much to say that hasn't been said already. However, I would like to see a tactical Alien vs Humans game in TF style. Fairy- Considering Valve is talking about this game as if they are embarrassed by it. It's probably nothing special, I mean think of it this way. You are making a game and then another employee tells you he/she is working on this game where enemies spawn not at random but calculated based on players' decisions and stats. Episode 3- Nothing much to say except that I would not be a fan of this HL3. More guns? I barely used the Crossbow land along with more weapons. And creating a game based on a single new thing that is a jelly. Nah, I'll pass. In games, a story isn't everything. TIME- Keep this one in mind. Margarita- Simple feature that can be implemented in any game. Not much to write home about. F-Stop- This, previous time thing, and an upcoming fan-made Portal game with a 3rd portal. Combining these elements would make a great Portal 3 game. Stars of Blood- This is something Valve tried that was popular at that time which were the MMORPGs, unlike Battle Royale (which we got in CSGO as Danger Zone) MMOs are hard to make and it's clear why Gabe canceled it. Would I pay money to play it? Absolutely. HL3 V1- If Valve didn't want it then neither would I. Project RPG- If they went with this, this game, or at least it's lore. Could potentially rival that of a World of Warcraft. Shame it didn't get made but it would probably suffer a similar fate as Warhammer online. Day of Defeat 2- Why Valve? Why? Ok, I know the reason but what hurts to make it. I mean sure if you want an accurate and realistic WW2 shooter, Hell Let Loose and Post Scriptum are your options. But they don't have that feel of a Source engine. HL: Resource Gathering- Just testing features, nothing much. HL3 V2- Maybe if you weren't playing as Gordon Freeman (because it kind of doesn't feet the lore) this could work. L4D3- As Tyler and the people working on it said: Source can't do this, yet. If it could, I am certain it would make for a great zombie survival game. I guess we can only wait and hope they implement this feature in Back4Blood. L4D Project AR: Valve............... WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!???? Remember when games were FUN!? TFTV- My theory on why they couldn't work it out it's because of a Source Film Maker. It's simply broken and it has a lot of bugs. Taking a long time making good (or even professional) animation in SFM is normal but not in the animation industry. If they were using a different engine but the same art style we would have TV series. I know the concept of an SFM, meaning that you don't have to make everything from scratch. If you need scenery, you already have it. A prop? Not a problem. But it's because of how Valve works programmers and animators did not see eye to eye. This is my theory feel free to correct me. HLB- Would be great for an HL VR game, I mean Alyx worked. Why not do the same? Seems fitting for a VR title. A.R.T.I.- Just a demo but for some reason they wanted to have an SP campaign. Not bad when you think about it. A good story and good gameplay make a great game. SIMTREK- Would be nice to be released in Source or not. Sounds very fun. With SP campaign and objectives to upgrade your ships, all that in VR. Take my money. L4D VR- In CEDA HQ? I can understand why they canceled it but it still would be fun to play through. To see it all start. Alien Swarm VR- Not a bad concept, but L4D AR sounds way more fun. HL: Tactics- Again probably Valve trying to be inventive and expand to other areas (WiiU and Switch). Seems like a simple game like the card game with some unique things. Portal VR- If you want to barf, this game would be for you. I mean you are solving puzzles while having a screen glued to your eyes. That's a lot of strain on your brain plus are jumping and flying all over the place. Haven't played Portal in VR so correct me if I'm wrong. In the Valley of Gods- I can see why. VR and puzzles are a lot better than puzzles and keyboard and mouse (and monitor). Again, these are just my thoughts. If I'm wrong somewhere, correct me. Would like to start a discussion.
Stars of Blood look so freaking intriguing. Why cancelling such a cool concept??? In the valley of Gods, Prospero.. it seems everytime they have a good idea they need to shut it down.. or buying a studio so they can shut it down.
In The Valley of Gods actually looked amazing. I kinda wish they kept going with it but HL:A is great too. All I can do is hope they decide to give ITVOG or Day of Defeat another chance.
As upsetting as these are, we can be thankful we got our version Team Fortress 2 and not those generic military shooter ones that were developed in Goldsrc.
It was valve's fault for taking 2 years to make the pilot, then making a 20 minute episode despite Adult Swim's directions stating an 11 minute short, then only cutting it down to 15. I don't blame Adult Swim for pulling out, despite how sad the news is.
Nuclear Dawn is so good. Totally underrated game. When I was playing regularly, it was hard to find full servers. It has one of the best, most satisfying game loops with a really great mix of class-based FPS with one player as the commander playing the game more RTS style. It's interesting to see that the concept was fleshed out at Valve first then reworked into the game we can now buy.
@Dat Boii that's more like price to pay for shit morality in the company. I cannot see anyone being happy for cancelling ready-to-release games. Usually games either get chopped earlier in development; without man-hours and love poured into it.
12:03 - Day of Defeat : Global Offensive - VALVe make it happen!! a CS:GO but WWII with co op campaign etc etc... That would be awesome!! Can someone start a petition? Let's gooo
Prospero sounds INCREDIBLE. I wonder what would have happened if they actually worked on it. Imagine a World of Warcraft type game with community generated content. Infinite money and content machine.
valve is like kanye: -considered the goat by many in their specific field -perfectionists who will often delay or straight up cancel a project if it isnt 100% perfect -so much lost content from both -fanbase who always complains that they 'miss the old valve/kanye' -fanbase who also will obsessively study everything they do -most recent big projects from both considered dissapoints (jesus is king/artifact)
HOLY SHIT, dude we must be on the same wavelength because I have also been thinking about this a lot. Both fans also go crazy for leaks (even if they are small as fuck). Also, Yandhi = Half-life 3 for sure. Now if only we could get Donda/a TF2 update...
13:16 This prototype sounds very fanfiction-tier and I'm glad they cancelled it, but HOLY SHIT I FUCKING *LOVE* that concept art. I hope they do something like that with Gordon in a future "Half-Life 4" or something
VNN probably meant the Original Xbox for when the original idea of TF2 was still being made. Counter-Strike and Half-Life 2 were the only Valve games to make it on the Xbox. Speaking of CS Xbox... VNN should talk about the story behind Condition Zero which more than midway into finishing, they released a "lite" version of Condition Zero for the Xbox. The Xbox version is called just "Counter-Strike" but has the new models, textures, effects, etc of Condition Zero but without the campaign. There are more that VNN should talk about in a video.
See, now this here is the Valve News I love to see! Good job to both you and Jaycie, and I look forward to the followup you just teased on your discord.
"The rest of the episodes were later incorporated into the stories of Team Fortress 2 comics, the final issue of which, Team Fortress 2 Comic #7, is likely cancelled." No. No no no no no no.
I really hope In The Valley Of The Gods is picked up again. It looked beautiful and I really loved Firewatch. If Valve really wanted to get another VR title out I imagine ITVOTG would be a great fit too.
That Project Time game reminds me a lot of The Talos Principle, which was a phenomenal game. Would love to see something like that being used in Portal!!
As cool as a lot of the stuff Valve does is and likely necessary a lot of the business decisions, I can't help but get a very yucky feeling every time I hear about them buying a talented new indie team and then announcing their game. Lately more often than not the game gets cancelled and everybody leaves, but a company like EA draws massive fire for doing the same thing.
I would very much appreciate if you did a full-length video on day of defeat 2; day of defeat was an absolute time suck for me when I was a kid both the goldsrc and source versions
Hmmm, I remember reading a long time ago about a Valve cancelled game with some sort of sci-fi knights, I think the artist who designed city 17 worked on the enviorements, I guess it was third party. Also, I can't imagine the shitstorm if they revealed Half-Life: Tactics like artifact.
When I hear about cancelled games I hate this because in most cases it means that we never gonna get our hands on it. Wow there are more projects cancelled by valve than released lol.
thats not really shocking honestly
@@brianmo2611 no but it is disappointing
That's with every game company, it's just that we get many inside looks at valve. Ubisoft probably started and stopped like 50 games
@@SenhorKoringa crybaby much.. ungrateful too if u ask me
@@UnknownPerson-wg1hw it took 8 years for them to release a new game despite all the work valve putting into csgo
not too ungrateful if you ask me
I REALLY hope the last TF2 comic isn’t canceled...
Always assume the worst when discussing Valve.
1:51 I guess someone went to valve and handed them the VR proof of concept CD so they went "Oh okay, we're not doing Episode 3 anymore"
Omg "Stars of Blood" sounds so good, you would learn Half Life Lore in Space
Time for everyone to be sad because of games that will never come out!
I was always quite fascinated with Prospero. I hope someone does a spiritual successor to that
I love Valve alot, and seeing and hearing about just only 30 Cancelled Valve Games makes me incredibly sad that we never got to experience them. And this is only 1st party, the other half of the cancelled games are gonna make me even sadder. I'm still hopeful that one day we may get to try them out or see more about them. I can't even pick one that hurts the most more than Episode 3 and Half-Life 3, they're my top 2 that sadden me the most just because of the cliffhanger in Episode 2. I love you Valve, but you hurt me. You hurt all of us.
eh most of em mustve sucked if they straight up canceled it, and couldnt find a way to make it work. I mean a whole team of sega got straight up fired.
but i do get what you mean though. I hope someday valve would make an rpg. I kinda wanna see what kind of game they would make if they do make an RPG genre.
My top cancelled games would be
1. Half-Life 2 Episode 3
2. Half-Life 3
3. Stars of Blood
4. F-Stop
5. Prospero
As for the other 15. Not sure.
I used to love Valve when they were just a rag-tag bunch of gamers who created games for the love. Now they're just a disorganised bunch of industry elites who hire and fire on a whim and only chase the money.
@@FlyboyHelosim i mean would you love them the same if they kept making repetetive, uninnovative shovelware? I mean its not like theres Monalisa 2. Theres just 1 monalisa.
@@rattango9819 Well some of their games are already like that for me, so. I personally don't care for anything they've done really outside of the Half-Life series itself.
The half life 3 version 2 concept sounds fantastic :(((
30 Cancelled Valve Games
Number 1: Half Life 3
Yeah... About that..
My thoughts on all this (feel free to comment your thoughts):
Submarine- it would probably be more of an action game than a stealth game, you play as the submarine and operate the crew but not going through the submarine.
Threewave- HL: Deathmatch Beta if you will
TF2 XBox- Nothing much, just a port.
I REALLY hope that Valve didnt cancel the TF2 comic right before the last one....
Dude, I miss Tactical Intervention. It was the shit for me back then.
Dude, I would be so happy if they came back and released Stars of blood
in the valley of the gods was actually looking interesting :(
In The Valley of Gods actually looked amazing. I kinda wish they kept going with it but HL:A is great too. All I can do is hope they decide to give ITVOG or Day of Defeat another chance.
Loving the video Tyler, great work!
As upsetting as these are, we can be thankful we got our version Team Fortress 2 and not those generic military shooter ones that were developed in Goldsrc.
I wish they'd release the TF prototypes to the public, you'd think they wouldn't need to keep them under lock and key after all these years...
out of all 30 neon prime survived neon prime must be big
We were gonna get a TF2 show!? Damn dude, bummer it got shutdown.
It was valve's fault for taking 2 years to make the pilot, then making a 20 minute episode despite Adult Swim's directions stating an 11 minute short, then only cutting it down to 15.
I don't blame Adult Swim for pulling out, despite how sad the news is.
@@pyraffin Oh damn 2 years for the pilot, fair enough
Nuclear Dawn is so good. Totally underrated game. When I was playing regularly, it was hard to find full servers. It has one of the best, most satisfying game loops with a really great mix of class-based FPS with one player as the commander playing the game more RTS style.
It's interesting to see that the concept was fleshed out at Valve first then reworked into the game we can now buy.
Seeing as how much Valve is trying to make Portal VR work, I genuinely believe we will see a Portal VR by 2023
Well it's 2023 now and we haven't seen anything yet, but the year's not over and there's still time.
Valve should release all these shelved projects or some to the public and see where people take these
a bit depressing how valve has more cancelled titles than released titles
@Dat Boii that's more like price to pay for shit morality in the company. I cannot see anyone being happy for cancelling ready-to-release games. Usually games either get chopped earlier in development; without man-hours and love poured into it.
Nintendo contacted Valve? I’m guessing after Half Life tactics was cancelled they wound up never making anything new for the switch, disappointing
I wanna play the aliens vs humans TF2, they should reuse the concept if they ever make TF3
Don’t kid your self they would make tf4 before they make tf3
All I could think of is that if Valve manage to fully make source 2 a success, then hopefully all the things we've wanted will finally happen.
Theres a minecraft puzzle map similar to that portal time recording game.
I feel like half life borealis would be a great time for me to play if it existed.
Hey why did VNN's name suddenly change to Tyler McVicker?
He stopped making Valve news and is just gonna make game reviews and stuff
With the announcement that you're done with VNN, this feels weirdly fitting as the last video under that series.
Team Fortress Brotherhood of arms sounds like what Call of duty is today
finally having context for the posthuman art is amazing
12:03 - Day of Defeat : Global Offensive - VALVe make it happen!! a CS:GO but WWII with co op campaign etc etc... That would be awesome!! Can someone start a petition? Let's gooo
Prospero sounds INCREDIBLE. I wonder what would have happened if they actually worked on it.
Imagine a World of Warcraft type game with community generated content. Infinite money and content machine.
valve is like kanye:
-considered the goat by many in their specific field
-perfectionists who will often delay or straight up cancel a project if it isnt 100% perfect
-so much lost content from both
-fanbase who always complains that they 'miss the old valve/kanye'
-fanbase who also will obsessively study everything they do
-most recent big projects from both considered dissapoints (jesus is king/artifact)
HOLY SHIT, dude we must be on the same wavelength because I have also been thinking about this a lot. Both fans also go crazy for leaks (even if they are small as fuck).
Also, Yandhi = Half-life 3 for sure.
Now if only we could get Donda/a TF2 update...
Well, Valve's last project was Alyx, which wasn't a disappointment
@@alexzz1234 if we aint counting VR
Comparing a spontaneous rapper to a Software Company. Major weirdchamp.
Also
- both worth billions
- extremely successful outside of their main product (steam/yeezys)
- both gabe and kanye are memes
Amazing video dude, probably your best one so far!
Tyler plz bring back the gambling sites instead of bootleg fortnite. I get the hustle but the phone games in particular are kind of annoying
13:16 This prototype sounds very fanfiction-tier and I'm glad they cancelled it, but HOLY SHIT I FUCKING *LOVE* that concept art. I hope they do something like that with Gordon in a future "Half-Life 4" or something

If you think this sounds fun i highly recommend The Talos Principle
we just need to remake those cancelled valve games that was related to portal and half life series (or both) and also L4d so we can have fun
Technically TF2 is on Xbox and Ps3 due to the orange Box for consoles.
"The rest of the episodes were later incorporated into the stories of Team Fortress 2 comics, the final issue of which, Team Fortress 2 Comic #7, is likely cancelled."
No. No no no no no no.
I really hope In The Valley Of The Gods is picked up again. It looked beautiful and I really loved Firewatch.
If Valve really wanted to get another VR title out I imagine ITVOTG would be a great fit too.
question: is VNN some kind of group or its just you?
Vnn is just him but he has friends and contacts that help him with his research
That Project Time game reminds me a lot of The Talos Principle, which was a phenomenal game. Would love to see something like that being used in Portal!!
As cool as a lot of the stuff Valve does is and likely necessary a lot of the business decisions, I can't help but get a very yucky feeling every time I hear about them buying a talented new indie team and then announcing their game. Lately more often than not the game gets cancelled and everybody leaves, but a company like EA draws massive fire for doing the same thing.
I never realized nuclear dawns inspiration. Man I loved that game too
Things get cancelled and ideas get reconstituted, we'll be seeing the very best of these ideas.
I would very much appreciate if you did a full-length video on day of defeat 2; day of defeat was an absolute time suck for me when I was a kid both the goldsrc and source versions
You forgot Half-Life: Hostile Takeover
@ImTheGherkinSFM half-life.fandom.com/wiki/Half-Life:_Hostile_Takeover
TIME 8:50 Works just like Talos Principle does!
When I hear about cancelled games I hate this because in most cases it means that we never gonna get our hands on it. I hear what the game was supposed to be and then be like "now I want to play it, if only it was never cancelled". Many fan-teams are willing to finish some of these cancelled games if given the chance.
Half-life: Tactics would fit my tastes. It looks good
The footage is from HL2 mod. An RTS made in the HL universe. Called "Lambda wars"

unbeliveably sad about DOD2 being cancelled. and i wish i could play the TF2 BOA and some of the others, they look quite cool. but man i want some more DOD
I would've loved to say a new Day of Defeat :(
9:31 Quantum Conundrum is such a blast from the past. Played through it once and then I never touched it or thought about again until now lmao.
fuck me this is depressing. Can they at least finish the TF2 comic?
You should make a iceberg video of Valve
This is why most companies don’t give their employees this much freedom, because nothing gets done.
But on the other hand, you get some heavily amazing games when they do make something
Any developer probably has around this many cancelled games or abandoned prototypes though, especially over 25 years
