    ABOUT THIS VIDEO - I covered 1/3 of the list in my last video so a lot of what I say ends up being a repeat but the rest are all little upgrades that are worth noting if you are considering to buy either camera or looking to upgrade to the 4. Hope this video helps! Cheers!

      AWESOME Video, Jason! Main thing I wanted to know is if settings in Video and Photo mode were Independent or Dependent on each other and you were the only one that answered or at least answered it properly! And also only one to provide detailed views on how that is done (and that's a pretty cool new feature to let the user decide which ones can be independent or not). Thanks again for this very informative and detailed video!

    I think the upgrade from 3 to 4 only makes sense for video shooters. All major updates like better stabilisation, anti focus breathing, 4k60, no record limit etc. are in fact just video options. The 3 rocks good enough in photography and if it's not professional enough for you, the 4 won't be either.

    As someone leaning more and more to video, the A7III has been fun, but the A7SIII with all framerates in FF and the fastest most minimal rolling shutter CMOS and dual native ISO is just hard to beat. A7IV is a super powerful photo video camera that seems more 60/40 rather than 50/50
    I kind of wish Sony didn’t make it 33mp but kept 24mp or made 28mp if that meant the 4K60p would not have to crop to APS-C (Super35). And would keep rolling shutter a bit more in check. Those 2 factors are too critical for video to compromise on. And I’m actually okay with shooting stills at 12mp. Just nail the composition and never crop.
    And if some high end job would come along, I’ll rent an A7R series if the client requires super large files. But usually clients complain files of 24mp are too big for social media… so yeah.

    • @ClaudioDesideriFilms
      @ClaudioDesideriFilms 3 роки тому +2

      Can't fault your logic, it expresses exactly how I feel about this new camera. Sony decided to listen more to the wallet rather than what users really needed, although don't get me wrong, it's a great camera overall but such a shame for the cropped 4k 60 🤦🏻‍♂️

    • @mirrorlessny
      @mirrorlessny 3 роки тому +2

      I do stills with a7S3 too - 12mp compressed RAW is great & easier to handle/store, yes 24mp would of been better for videography but Sony probably wanted to improve on both fronts & that they did. Curious to see a7Cii as well as a7S4 (19mp from fx9?)

    • @ClaudioDesideriFilms
      @ClaudioDesideriFilms 3 роки тому +1

      @@mirrorlessny storage is a good point although since I bought a Qnap Nas I didn't experience any more issues with space. I'm curios too about the A7C mark ii, still think that A7siii is the best compromise between cost and potential of production level. I can’t believe they added a 1.5x crop to 4K 60p recording. It’s so frigg’n stupid. I really don’t know who this camera is supposed to be for at this price point. The rear LCD is still garbage compared to the refreshed a7r series’s bodies and the A1 and a7siii. So… high-ISO video is noisier than a7iii… shown in your previous video (and also in Gordon Laing’s vid).
    Also, Gordon Laing’s video showed the video resolution/detail is same and no improvement over a7iii.
    That’s unfortunate (esp with the $500 increase)… IQ matters more than all these new features… it’s the only thing other people see after all.
    Features only matter to the photographer/videographer… not your viewers or other people.

    This video is blowing my mind. Flippy touch screen with 30MP was good enough for me but damn. Great changes. Such value for price, much wow.

    Is there a big difference in image quality between the A7III and A7IV, and is the autofocus faster?

  • @FazMarkar
    @FazMarkar 3 роки тому +1

    Hi Jason, I think you can revisit this and make a new video out of the title with the A7IV and all the new lenses. Make sure you include lenses that works for both photographers and videographers as the A7IV is a hybrid beast. Good luck!

    Wow, major improvements, hmm should I move from my A7iii? Tempting. Maybe I should learn how to take pictures First? 🤔 😁

      a7iii is very good for photography, advanced level 😁

    • @qwiklok
      @qwiklok 3 роки тому +1

      @@mirrorlessny It absolutely is. I have one. I also have the Canon 5D2 and i thought that was incredible - and it was IF and only IF you know how to use it well. The pictures were quite good / excellent - all lens dependent of course. Camera shake was like any film camera - tripod dependent! or double that of the lens length or held against a solid surface. Consider it a film camera and go from there and you are OK. Don't do nights at over 640 ISO unless you love grain. Video was pretty darned good, but not perks like auto focus, night, or high ISO. But in its day, it was a revolution and well deserved.
      But the Sony A7iii is a complete game changer - no going back. The images were astounding, the camera shake almost entirely eliminated, the night photography unbelievable, EVF way ahead of optical and large in image view, flip up / tilt out rear screen, e-mount which means almost any lens made is now available, video is nudging world class, options galore, all day battery life, I mean - duhhhh.
      As much as I liked the Canon, it just does not compare anymore. I still have it and was thinking of selling it, but it reminds me of how much I need to go back to my roots when I get lazy with my Sony. That Canon makes you bloody well work for good pictures - not easy stuff. And that has value right there.

    #35: 10fps is only possible with Compressed RAW. do you think they will release a firmware update to increase/fix this? otherwise, who wants to shoot 5-6fps? am I missing something??

    • @nickwilliams6716
      @nickwilliams6716 3 роки тому +1

      5-6 fps is enough for wedding, portrait and landscape photographers. I agree it's low for wildlife and sports.

    • @TechnoBabble
      @TechnoBabble 3 роки тому +1

      For wildlife and sports, sure. But if you can't shoot a portrait or something with 6fps the camera isn't the problem. And the lossy compressed RAW shows less of a difference to lossless compressed the higher your ISO is. So just shoot lossy compressed RAW if you need the speed and get 10fps.

      My current A6300 can also do 10fps, and I think I have used this feature about once per year, so I take the increase in megapixel over an increase in FPS anytime.

    Just the vastly improved focusing alone is a great upgrade. But i love that finally there is a fully functional touch screen. I also really like that when you switch to video it has a video menu. And in stills its a stills menu. Also the new lossless raw. And no video record limit. And the flip screen and ergernomics. Great buffer if using the best card. And 33mp is a perfect sweet spot. Seems like a great camera. But i see people whining that it won't shoot uncompressed raw at 10fps. Or full frame 4k60p. There's always something people are unhappy about. Personally for what i do I'm still happy with my A7r lll. But if i was looking for a new camera i would be very happy with the A74.

    I’m new to this so I’m just checking - do people really bother with the filters and effects thing??? Or is it just for reference before you edit in software? Also is the face softening pretty throw away? I’m thinking maybe low setting during live stream but maybe not
