Thank you for your amazing review Jason. The crop at 4k 60p sucks me a lot becase the job Im doing I need a wide lens. I was wondering if you can do a review of the Sony a7IV at 4k60 using the sony apsc lens 10-18mm f4. can it work? can you test the sharpeness and the quality of image ? I'm looking for a solution with this 1.5x croping. Thank you!! Peace :)
Still Made in China or Thailand!
Canon is the only ones nowadays that MADE IN JAPAN! 💪
Easy work around for 4k 60fps crop just stand back a lil further 😅
Asome a7.lV
Qual o grip de bateria para a A7IV? O mesmo da A7RIV?
100 years from now, Sony will be making gigapixel bodies that can shoot at a million frames per second, and track a mosquitoes eyelash, but it'll still come with a recycled Gameboy Color lcd...
😂 damn this comment just sent me
True 🤭
pretty ironic for a company that makes some of the best LCD's in the world. The incremental cost for putting something decent would be minuscule.
@@DiegoTerzano it's super bizarre, we're all used to looking at high res cell phone displays, on even economy phones, for them to spec such a crap display on a class leading full frame body, makes no sense.
@@G95G95 completely agree. The crappy LCD's and the lack of GPS for geo-tagging even on high end cameras is puzzling.
Props to Vivian for keeping us entertained with her fun nature while you explain camera details! Great video :)
such an informative review.
Many thanks!
Woooo! New camera! So awesome to see how the A7 line has grown over the years. Also full touch screen controls!
The BEST review by far for the new Sony A74... amazing demo to know all that this camera is capable of. Great work Jason!!
So informative!! That focus map though... thanks Jason!
I think I’m finally ready to upgrade my a7iii. It’s served me well but it is time to move on to this beast!
I have seen more than 10 videos reviews about the s7iv and this is the first one to show this technical information.
Thanks a lot this is useful.
You're the only one I've found who demonstrated the focus mapping. Thank you 🙏
Thanks for the review Jason 🙌🏻
Of course it is. Vong. Sony's man. Always pulls through for the company.
I'm still chillin with my a7iii, it gets the job done.
Yea I’m not really convinced with this A7iv….all of these camera influencers are trying to convince me but it’s not really much of an upgrade to my A7iii…idk. The megapixel increase is great…I guess? I guess I’m just uneducated. I’m not convinced.
@@noahjoseph5714 the biggest upgrade for the A74 in my opinion are of course the megapixels, but it is the flip out screen which is a huge. Other than that, the a7iii is more than adequate to get the job done for weddings, engagement shoots and social events. The lens is more important than the body, especially for resell value which stays consistent as time passes by. I mean if you can afford the A74, by all means, go for the best. But for the majority of us, it's not a necessity, a good lens and a constant willingness to go out and practice shooting and understanding the variables of photo editing are key to becoming a proper photographer. Don't use the hype of a new camera body to justify you being a good photographer. A good driver isn't a good driver solely because the car is expensive but because you develop the necessary skills to become better as you practice and learn from your mistakes.
@@thispak WELL SAID 👏🏽👏🏽
This was the best review I’ve watched,. Thanks for being so detailed about the obscure things!
Awesome preview right here
Thanks JV
A lot of those newer features are really cool but I'm glad I didn't wait for this one! This makes me super happy I went with the A7c last year :)
Awesome content man I like how you lay it all out. Been working with a Sony camera for a little over a year and so far yours and Cody Blues channel helped me to understand it all better. I appreciate it!
I'm a Canon guy but happy to see Sony keeping the photography market competitive. Had the original Sony A7 and hated it but these new cameras look amazing!
Likewise. Good camera releases from Canon means Sony is forced to upgrade, and visa versa. Thank god competition furthers evolution!
Love the review. As always. Much love from Malaysia
I recently shot an image film for a small company with a borrowed Canon 5d mark 4, which I had never used for video before, and I remember how confused I was when in 4k mode the picture was suddenly zoomed in. I never found out why it happened and well, when you complained about the 4k60fps crop here, I suddenly realized, that that must have been what has happened on this shoot. Happy to finally know xD
Thanks so much for the review Jason. Just got mine and I’m so excited
Great review! Thank you & Vivian!
Your review was more in depth then the other 2 videos I just saw. So thank you
Recently bought this as an upgrade from my old Canon 90D … absolutely in love.
Another great video!
Awesome coverage ☺️
Pre ordered mine…..🙌🏻🙌🏻
Great point about the flip out screen!
I’m so happy Sony added another top dial as an option to the real wheel that I was constantly bumping. Splitting stills & video mode is a great change for hybrid shooters.
Pre ordered mine today!
Best informative so far on the a74 Great presentation
You always do an awesome honest nice review. Thanks!
Great review. This was very helpful. This is why I come here first for my Sony camera reviews. You went though the very things I was interested in upgrading from the a73
Great video Jason thanks, my biggest disappointment about this camera (given the sizable price increase) was that Sony didn't manage to squeeze in a stacked sensor to once again cement them as the mirrorless leaders, offering cutting edge features at a great price like so many A series models have done before it.
Sony could have still kept the A7iv artificially capped at 10fps to protect the A9 and A1 sales but I think to have quite a sizable rolling shutter and probably a nasty banding issue too when shooting in silent shutter mode is unacceptable at $2500 in what is essentially 2022.
I would love to see some silent shutter banding tests, maybe a comparison shootout against the A9i which is actually the same price as the A7iv and so makes for a very interesting proposition!
You've covered all the features that others have missed 👍
Just got my A7 iii last month.. Im happy with it. When I'm more comfortable in my area of work ill upgrade!!
Great video Jason. I’ve watched a bunch since yesterday and yours is at the top 👌🏻
I saw that the 10fps are only in Compressed Raw on a CFexpress card. Lossless and Uncompressed top at 6 fps. That’s really sad!
It would be cool to make some comparaison between the different modes!
Superb review!!
The best review I have seen yet!!! Thanks big homie!!!!!
Superb review 👏
great video. I just preordered mine. My favorite part is seeing her reaction to the peacock moving. :)
I want this camera 📸 fantastic review Jason
The flip out screen is so awesome for vertical shooting. I still shoot a lot with a6000 but i would never buy another hybrid without the flippy. Just ordered two of these A7iv for the team.
Love your videos and depth and valuable discussion
Very good video and very informative 👍, thank you for taking the time to make this video 📹
Good job man 🥰
Jason does the best job at explaining this. I use my a7iii for video and love it. Three things might make me jump to a7iv: flip out screen, higher resolution LCD screen (the screen in a7iii is surprisingly poor resolution), and the dust protection mechanism (even when I store my camera in a closet, dust keeps entering the a7iii sensor). And I would add the improved menu navigation and buttons are huge too.
Best review yet! Very informative..thanks
Your videos are great! 🤌🏽✨
I Have To Grab One Of These!!
Another great video Jason
This is everything we need!
Lol here too?? 😂😂😂

You did a great job with this video 👏👏
thanks for the review
Super excited for this!!! Been anxiously waiting for the new A7IV & love the new features!!! This is going to be a must buy for me, and will replace my A7RIII as my main A-camera for all my video content.
And here I am thinking about selling my A7r2 to buy an A7r3 because I just love the R series
“R”esolution ~ I am used to 42mp for the last 5 years and dropping 9mp just hurts my heart.
This was a fun and helpful video!
Awsome video!
15:34 it's because you don't zoom the images to the same level ... I can't believe how many pros make that mistake.
You can see the A7iii is zoomed back compared to the A7iv here, therefore it benefits from more surface and less visible noise, whereas the A7iv is handicapped because you zoom more in the image. Make the images look exactly the same size and THEN compare the noise.
I dont understand, the images look identical
Interesting observation. Thanks for pointing that out!
He's comparing video, they're all 4k, the framing is nearly identical. Pay attention before confidently spouting wrong information.
This is one of the only UA-cam videos that I liked about the a74
I enjoyed this review
Thank you for this wonderful review!
I like your enthusiasm !
Thank you for that video. It helps me a lot to decide if I will buy it... :)
Great video, man. Super informative. Thanks heaps.
Awesome review ....
Fantastic review, to the point, without the usual youtuber fluff. You got a new follower!
very informative thanks!
This is a great review! So thorough!
Just bought the a74 and I’m so excited to try it out
finally a comparison to the a7iii! everyone was doing the vs to the a7siii
You are always the best in explaining extra things that other youtubers dont. THANK YOU. 🙏
Focus mapping looks amazing!
Thanks a lot. Hope you will make a beginners guide video too, going through all the minor details and settings.
As an FX3 user, these specs and price point make me pretty happy. I'm using the A6600 and A7iii as my B and C cams, and they're plenty adequate for my needs for now. But when the time does eventually come to replace one or both of em, the A7iv will be a perfect choice. I won't need high frame rate options or anything crazy fancy, but having 4:2:2 10 bit, same menu system, and on occasion S-Cinetone (although I'm 90% S-Log3), is perfect. And it'll be a great stills camera for the rare times I'm taking stills. So for my future use case, I'm very pleased with what this camera is offering.
4:2:2 10 bit in an affordable package is great, I'll be grabbing one. A lot of people bummed about the crop on the 4K 60, but I've personally never needed it so it doesn't bother me.
Is the a7iii still good for still ? I just Need a great cam for stills?
@@sunshinejansen85 if it’s mainly for stills and a bit of b-roll in video you’ll be pretty happy with the a7iii. The photographs are excellent. If it’s going to be used for a lot of video, I’d do the IV.
@@BrianElliottFilm
Really cool and thank you ❤️appriciate it im a rookie. Makeup artist turning photographer ore at least i wanna try to❤️im really shitty tecnical so looking for a camera thats super easy and user friendly . Only Need it for stills 🥰
@@sunshinejansen85 if it’s only stills A7iii will be awesome for you. I don’t do a lot of photography but when I do I’m very happy with the photo quality out of the A7iii.
Was excited when I saw this review on my homepage. Great video as always!!
As an a6400 user I really eventually want to get into a full frame camera. This one really feels like the logical choice (although a little bummed about the 4K 60 crop). I do think I’ll need to wait a bit to save a justify spending this much on a camera but I don’t think there is a better option for my use in the Sony lineup.
I came from the A6400 as well. I was waiting for an improved APS-C camera, then the A74 came out. I thought the 4K 60 was great because i have some good crop glass I can use for video. The Sigma Trio and the Tamron 11-20mm. Ill be using the tamron for slow mo real estate videos at 4K 60. So the greatthing is you can use your current lenses for 4K 60 stabilized, much better quality video.
@@sidehustlers336 awesome info! Thanks!!!
Great review - thanks. I have A6400 and have been waiting to upgrade to this.
Good video!
Fan boy on fleek lol good stuff great job
Thank you!
ooh nice upgrade might have to get if things go well!
cant wait to save up 2700 and get one!! awsome video!!
I would love to see a video setup guide.. I'm sure you're too busy to do one but would love it. You helped me setup my A6400 as well 2 years ago
I was wonder where my frame lines were going on the s3! Drove me crazy trying to fix…thanks Jason!
Great review Jason. I love that the shutter closes when powered off. Less to worry about when changing lenses!
yeah so so so good. unexpected "delighter" upgrade there for sure. Sony was using the "KANO Model" when they did that one for sure.
I believe there's a 4 seconds delay before it does so, hence not as useful as one might have expected! (From Dave Oastler)
This is what I need
Tons of videos on this camera out today… but if it wasn’t Jason Vong’s I wasn’t watching! Thanks JV!
Was so worried it wouldn’t be worth upgrading over a a7iii but I’ll definitely be investing at some point. Great review
THE Perfect allrounder ... and so many lenses available for e mount. But of course also the a7III is still a really good option for a good price if you get with some discount or cashback etc.
Well explain detailed 👏👏👏👏
Nice and thanks for the review! Am considering to get one. Previously Nikon user.
Great review. I see the camera as a very small incremental upgrade to the A7III. I think I will skip this one and go for the A7RV when released, hopefully sometime in 2022. I do mainly product, macro, astro and landscape. The AF improvements won't affect me much ( i use manual focus a lot). I also see a more greenish tint on the A7IV I am not too please about. I will keep expanding my lens lineup in the meantime.
Great video. I just bought this camera on Friday. I am a stills shooter and occasional video shooter for fun. This is the perfect camera for me coming from APS-C.
Thanks brother I’m sold!!! I’ll get thank and keep my fx30 for video until I can get an fx3
A7c and A6600 already had faster focus tracking than the A7 III, so I'm curious how the A7 IV compares to those two.
they did great on the a74, kinda glad they didn't make this too good since I own a a7s3 😅 now I need a a7s3 update with the streaming plug in feature. but great video man
I was looking to buy this camera last year but they never announced it so I ended up buying an A7III. While it’s serving me well, Now that I’ve seen this camera I’m going to buy it…next year when everything has been sorted out by the early adopters and it goes on sale during one of the many sales Sony has.
Awesome walk through Jason! Are you planning to pick it up?
top shelf!!!
If you're a video shooter you can buy the A7siii for 3100 on BH with a student discount. I would go that route at this price
yes if you are more than 65% video get the S line. this is a basic all around camera but nit video centric. use the right tool for the right job. S for video/low light. R for hi-res pro fashion and landscapes. a9/a1 for pro sports / wildlife. A7iii or a7iv for everything else thats basic (street, portraits, walk around, travel, every day, wedding, etc etc)
@@sjsphotog I can agree with that statement.
I’m 50/50 Photograhy and Videography, which one should I get ?
@@StabilizePhotography A74…
The 4K60 crop is a massive letdown, all the camera influencers are sugar coating it so tough.
this is not geared towards video centric. its a HYBRID all arouner. if you are primary for video you will already be getting/using a Sony A7Siii or FX3 FX6 instead. Use the right tool for the right job. Dont complain to Sony and others when you are trying to do something VERY specific and want the best results with a general use case camera !!! Like trying to use a butter knife to cut sushi perfectly. Yes they are both knives but its not the same.
@M Tech you can’t compare that, a phone‘s camera sensor is a fraction of the size of a fullframe camera. the amount of data that needs to be processed on a fullframe camera, let alone when it needs to downscale, is much, much higher. and therefore it produces a lot more heat, which also is a big limitation when it comes to recording times in a rather small body. the canon R5 has such short record limits for a reason.
@M Tech also, i think it’s pretty on par with the R6. same price point and specs are very comparable. agree, the R6 does 4K/60 without a crop but also has way less megapixels to deal with, which makes it less capable as a hybrid camera. also, the sony records for much longer. tests show it runs for 2 hours and longer at room temperature, while the R6 shuts down after 20-25 minutes and often you have to wait hours for it to be useable again.
all in all, i can't see why it would be a huge disappointment. agreed, 4K/60 without a crop would have been really great, but to me, when filming slow-motion, i tend to use higher focal lengths anyway so i‘d be OK with that personally. and looking at their lineup, they have to make some sacrifices. if it would do 4K/60 without a crop, the only thing that would set the a7s III apart is 4K/120. most people don’t need that so sony would lose out on a lot of sales for that camera, since it’s way more expensive than the a7 IV.
@@sjsphotog Cropped 4K60 has been around for for a while now. Panasonic (S1) and Canon (R6) both have full frame 4K60 cameras on the market for $2.5k. Sony not putting full frame 4K60 in this camera is an undeniable letdown and we'll see what kind of repercussions it has.
@M Tech couldn’t agree more. Panasonic (S1) and Canon (R6) have full frame 4K60 cameras at $2.5k so idk what Sony is doing by pushing people into the A7siii or higher for something that their competitors have at the lower price point. I’m super disappointed
