If you can put up with a viewfinder from a film camera, looking through a prism, then the EVF is more than fine. It should not be a determining factor. The new tech is what makes the CII the better choice. But if you like the FF body with a hump in the middle, the A7R5 may be the way to go. The A74 just fell back a generation in processors and the AI chip. I compared the Sony a6700 vs, the A74 trying to capture stills of bees in my shrub and the a6700 with it's new tech blew the A74 away. I got far more hits with bees in blossoms and in flight than the A74. It wasn't close. For most everything else, it may not be a thing, but then, the new focus system is superior.
thats exactly what i was looking for haha. but what are you thinking about the smaller evf? does is bother you a lot? And could you tell the how the apsc cam compared in Iso perfomance against his fullframe brother? ^^
I ordered the zv e1 for a good price, but I haven't opened it yet in anticipation for the a7cii. Because of the rolling shutter in full frame 4k 24/30p, I see the a7c ii as a apsc video camera. If you're OK with that, than that's fine, but it looks like you are getting much more out of the zv e1 for video. Also, the zv e1 has dynamic stabilization which I see as a big plus as that can take the place of a gymbol in certain circumstances. The thing about the zv e1 is the overheating, as the a7c ii seems to have good thermal performance. If you think the overheatibg of the zv e1 might be an issue you can rent it and test it out. There are ways to mitigate the overheating, like keeping the flippy screen out, opening the ports and battery door, and getting one of those fans that fit into where the flippy screen goes.
I have had the A7IV since launch…got the A7Cii at launch. I have seriously considered selling my A7IV for the A7CR. I don’t shoot professional so the dual card slot isn’t a deal breaker for me but the size makes it a great travel or daily carry camera. I had the A7C for that very reason but just wasn’t happy with the image quality vs my A7IV. I would constantly get over exposed images with the exact same settings of my 4 vs the original C
i am right now in the same boat. have the a6700 and found the a7 iv pretty cheap used but the 6700 is so pretty small. i love that about it. I just miss the bigger evf and sometimes a joystick. Did you switch and whats your experience? ^^
I have the problem that my Sony A7iv recordings simply break off in between, sometimes I can film for 30 minutes with the cards and sometimes it breaks off after a few seconds, works again and sometimes not, I use a "Sandisk Extreme PRO 170MB/s , V30, 128GB" and a "Lexar 2000x, V90, 300Mb/s, 128GB" video setting: "XAVC S 4K, 30p, 10Bit" do you have any idea what could be the reason?
Jason if you were me a beginner who wants a camera mainly for video indoors. What Sony camera should I buy. Full frame. Please include a lens as well. Thank you.
Greetings!! Another amazing comparison. If you know someone with the S5ii or s5iix I would love to see you compare it to sony. 6k to go!! Give this man a Silver button for Xmas!
Hey Jason, could you please check this : Video mode Full HD 100 fps. Does breathing compensation and Active Steady still work? Because with the A74, these two things only work up to 50 fps. Thank you very much ❤
A 35-150/2.0-2.8 lives on my a7IV for event work. Wouldn’t want that big, heavy lens on an a7CII. Might get an a7CII, though, as a third body and home for my 24/1.8 and 85/1.4, while my a7RV carries my 20-40/2.8. I don’t shoot video.
I love the A7C series! I had the OG A7C before I upgraded to the A7IV. However I think for the money. Most people are better off buying a used A7IV for the same price as the A7CII. Now I think the A7CR is definitely worth the money considering it has the same specs as the A7RV with a huge price cut. But I’m patiently waiting for the A7V which will probably drop next year. I’m hoping and praying Sony takes inspiration from the LUMIX S5II and puts in an internal fan inside the A7V to fix the overheating issue. Time will tell.
I’m from a sony zv1 user and loved how compact it is. But now looking to upgrade, is a7cii a better option vs a7iv, zve1 or a7c is good enough? I cant afford a7siii :)
Moving from APS-C to FF I am on the fence between building A7IV or A7C Il, I love compact size but bigger size is good for grip and stabilising also looks more professional. Would my best option to get A7C lI and buy a battery grip so it gets bulkier similar to A7IV and I can remove it anytime for travel ? Btw I will use prime lenses with it mostly for most bokeh
I like your videos as they are informative and not overhyped or gimmicky. But i had to laugh about the "micro HDMI allergy". There is no 2 ways around it, micro HDMI sucks. Some older cameras had mini HDMI, which is not too bad, but micro is flimsy as heck.
Next to photography, as I'm also investing my energy in video, I feel like that a7cii with those AI functions and the lut preview facility will be better for someone like me.
How the 4k 60p in crop factor mode on the a7cII compare to 4k 60p on a FX30/a6700 when regarding low light? are they virtually the same or a FF sensor is still better even in crop mode?
As I’m looking at shooting for real estate and need low light performance since the ac7ii crops in 4k60 which is how I shoot real estate for slow mo, would that have the same low light performance as a apc crop sensor camera? Say the fx30 in 4k60 which doesn’t crop in ontop of its apc sensor. Sorry if that doesn’t make sense 😅
Can you turn the a7cii into a cinema camera like you can the a7iv. I’ve seen people shoot entire high quality movies with the a7iv but no one has tested this with the a7cii so far that’s just impressive to me yet

does anyone know when you crop in for 4k 60 does the low light performance degrade at all because of the crop or is it the same image quality just zoomed in??
I am thinking of adding this A7Cii to the A74, so have two good hybrid cameras. The A7Cii can be a lightweight travel options. If I need two card slots and a better EVF, then I have that option as well. I want to end up with 2 cameras. I had the A74 from its release and then sold it when the A6700 came out and was thinking about two of those for the small, lightweight, travel friendly, cameras (cheaper, lighter lenses). However, I sent them back and just bouight the Sony A74 again (gets delivered tomorrow), knowing that the A7Cii was released, so thought that may be my options. I don't know that I need the A7CR 61 MPs). Although, I could get a A6700, and the A7CR (which can do the 26mp crop mode)? - I love choices - so I just have to decide. I am in good shape once I decide is that I only have one lens: Sony 24mm f1.4 GM which I am keeping either way!

Where I'm based (Sweden) the a7iv is about 300usd cheaper than the a7c ii. After seeing this video I'm leaning toward the a7iv. Would you be inclined to agree?
The EVF really only matters if you're manually focusing. The resolution for the a7cii is enough. I'd only feel bad if the a7cii costed $3k and had the same shitty EVF.
I think its time to upgrade from my A7III. I just wish it had 2 card slots because I have a bad feeling if I wouldn't have a backup recording for a client. Sometimes SD cards just randomly die.
Hi Jason, love your comparison. I was actually thinking which one to buy between these two. One suggestion though. When you are showing the top down view the plant cast a shadow on the left camera which is clipping some details, specially when you were showing the SD cards.
Thank you!
can they finally give the a74 the software update for uncropped 4k60?? this is really tiresome knowing, that its capable doing it
I can't find any information on HDMI output modes anywhere. How about raw oversampled 4k to atomos ninja V?
No raw for either
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema 16 bit raw possible for sony a7c r
@@seroTech no it is not unfortunately
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema the a7cR have 16 Bit raw video output - I got this information in the video from jason vong and also DPReview.
@ShangleLP did you stick with the 6700 or buy the iv ? Why ?
I love your videos ❤❤❤
Very good explanation of two product, Thanks
I have the problem that my Sony A7iv recordings simply break off in between, sometimes I can film for 30 minutes with the cards and sometimes it breaks off after a few seconds, works again and sometimes not, I use a "Sandisk Extreme PRO 170MB/s , V30, 128GB" and a "Lexar 2000x, V90, 300Mb/s, 128GB" video setting: "XAVC S 4K, 30p, 10Bit" do you have any idea what could be the reason?
Did you buy the camera in Europe? Europe laws don’t allow photography cameras to record for unlimited time
I'm curious when it's released internationally and if it overheats?
Hi Jason, thanks for making this video, I wonder whether this camera has dual native ISO, and what are the numbers? Thank you very much.
800 and 3200
Jason if you were me a beginner who wants a camera mainly for video indoors. What Sony camera should I buy. Full frame. Please include a lens as well. Thank you.
either one of these plus a tamron 28-75mm f2.8 will be amazing
Great Video!
Would you rather have the 7CII or the Panasonic 5S IIx? For video
definitely s5iix
does Sony A7C II has same issue as sony a7iv overheat ?
Greetings!! Another amazing comparison. If you know someone with the S5ii or s5iix I would love to see you compare it to sony. 6k to go!! Give this man a Silver button for Xmas!
Haha I would love to play with the lumix for sure
Hey Jason, could you please check this : Video mode Full HD 100 fps. Does breathing compensation and Active Steady still work? Because with the A74, these two things only work up to 50 fps. Thank you very much ❤
Nice one mate …I’m thinking of getting the A7 IV now
A 35-150/2.0-2.8 lives on my a7IV for event work.
Now I can buy a7iv for 1500$ netto or a7c ii for 2100$ netto :P its 40% cheaper ^^ for almost the same
I’m from a sony zv1 user and loved how compact it is.
Some older cameras had mini HDMI, which is not too bad, but micro is flimsy as heck.
micro HDMI is horrible. I really wish it didn't exist
That made me laugh too lol
Next to photography, as I'm also investing my energy in video, I feel like that a7cii with those AI functions and the lut preview facility will be better for someone like me.
*sneeze* "im allergic to micro hdmi" - HAHAHAHA
How the 4k 60p in crop factor mode on the a7cII compare to 4k 60p on a FX30/a6700 when regarding low light? are they virtually the same or a FF sensor is still better even in crop mode?
Very similar.
Does the A7cII suffer the same over heating problem of the A7 IV??
As I’m looking at shooting for real estate and need low light performance since the ac7ii crops in 4k60 which is how I shoot real estate for slow mo, would that have the same low light performance as a apc crop sensor camera? Say the fx30 in 4k60 which doesn’t crop in ontop of its apc sensor.
Sorry if that doesn’t make sense 😅
Would you recommend the Sony ZV-E1 first for content, especially for videos?
Great review but looking forward to the Sony A7CR!
Thanks. Coming soon
Hi, it was great
Do you think Sony zv e1 or a7cii is better for video?
Can you turn the a7cii into a cinema camera like you can the a7iv. I’ve seen people shoot entire high quality movies with the a7iv but no one has tested this with the a7cii so far that’s just impressive to me yet
I've heard A7IV is known for overheating, I'm not sure as I don't own one myself but I wonder how it compares to the A7C II
You didn’t tell us what camera you would choose as of now. A7iv or A7CII? 😅
Think I'll go for the a6700, I want a 16-55mm and Sony make one for APSC, nothing like that exists for full frame.
I had been wanting a a7iv I’m sure prices on used ones will drop since is not the new kid on the block
My main was A7ii and my secondary is a6300 but my A7ii just broke down on me considering a new main camera any suggestions mainly photo work here!
hi im beginner at camera and look for this came ... and i wanna ask about those 4k60fps crop things .. do this things is can be updated from the software or just literaly be it..?
how's the Auto white balance? are the A7IV and A7cii the same?
the a7c ii sensor can't be closed like a7iv? and is there a weather seal like a7iv?
and the memory can use cf express?
shutter can be closed when shut off like a7iv. no CF type A. weather sealing similar
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema Wow, it turns out that the sensor can be closed, like the A7IV, I don't think it can because it wasn't demoed... and how good if it's weather-resistant, you can't cf ex A, but can you do it for Type B and others? Thank you in advance for helping answer
Is 120fps in 10bit on both cameras possible?
thanks for unbiased review
Thanks
This comes from the OG fan Jason. You have so much plosives from that mic, please address that. With respect, all the best
Ok
does anyone know when you crop in for 4k 60 does the low light performance degrade at all because of the crop or is it the same image quality just zoomed in??
I am in good shape once I decide is that I only have one lens: Sony 24mm f1.4 GM which I am keeping either way!
why did you send the 6700 back? ^^
are you able to use the lut for the hdmi output??
CRAZY! very similar... The shots of Kareen look EPIC too btw 🔥
Which one Is better A7C II or ZV E1?
Now thats opening a can of worms 🪱🐛🐛🪱🐛🪱🐛😂 i reckon a7cII
Oh tough one. Zv-e1 for video
Legend. @@JasonMorrisphotocinema
Thanks! I am looking for an upgrade for wedding photography. I am happy not having dual SD. Would you recommend the A7C II?
Single slot for wedding photography? And if the card fails, you're gonna ask them to re-do the wedding?
🤣@@ljubosvetijeljiski7023
I once knew a person who shot a wedding with a single sd card, i also remember that person getting sued in court. Now he carries 2 cameras and they both have dual slots 😂
I recently bought the a7c2 and I’m pissed it didnt come with a charging wire / plug or usb wire.
Whats lense
Does the AI work for photo also? Or is it better for video? I can’t decide between the two cameras.. I don’t really shoot video..
There ain’t many AI features for photo in the camera. View finder resolution might be something to consider in your situation.
there's a huuuuge diff between the IBIS shots, cant even be more surprised that You told , there's no diff. A7CII looks waaaay better.
Theres any dual native iso in a7cii?
800 and 3200 in s-log 3
Where I'm based (Sweden) the a7iv is about 300usd cheaper than the a7c ii. After seeing this video I'm leaning toward the a7iv. Would you be inclined to agree?
You're lucky...here in France it's not the case
A7c ii have dual iso, bro ?
The EVF really only matters if you're manually focusing. The resolution for the a7cii is enough. I'd only feel bad if the a7cii costed $3k and had the same shitty EVF.
I think its time to upgrade from my A7III. I just wish it had 2 card slots because I have a bad feeling if I wouldn't have a backup recording for a client. Sometimes SD cards just randomly die.
I don't shoot as much as some people, but I've been using a 10 year old sd card made by lexar and it still works lol.
i live in israel and the both at same price so what camera should i get
Wish they kept the camera the exact same but remove the EVF...
What about the grip???
Hi Jason, love your comparison. I was actually thinking which one to buy between these two. One suggestion though. When you are showing the top down view the plant cast a shadow on the left camera which is clipping some details, specially when you were showing the SD cards. It would be nice to get a detailed view of the ports. Thanks.
Ok
Indian weddings are too much long functions it will take almost 18 + hours minimum... Thats y i chose a7c 11 + any micro gimbal ❤❤❤❤ i like compact cameras so much becz i love my backbone... Sony👍👍
is the lumix s5iix better?
Why it is called A7c ii MARK 2 ?😅
Choose a7cii or a7iv better
if you need dual cards, full size hdmi and better evf then a7iv
