i've been a cyclist for over 50 years, and while there's no excuse for the close pass, it really irks me to see so many cyclists that far out in the road, sorry, but you aint doing anything to help yourself or showing consideration to other faster road users. you don't have to ride in the gutter, just keep left. GL
@@nuttycommuter3718 Not in a situation where you have a long straight open road like that, primary position is to allow a rider to be seen more easily on bends. This was just inconsiderate riding.
the new laws have made it more dangerous imo. now cyclists are too confident riding bang in the middle of the lane. i also wonder how many cyclists have ever taken their cycling proficiency test.? i did one at 10yrs old in 1985 and i did one in 1990. is that even still a thing.? i told a cyclist who was wearing crocs the other day, that they weren`t suitable, so it was dangerous. you`d of thought i`d just spilt a drink all over his missus
I couldn’t help but notice that the cyclist was way out in the middle of the road!. Is it really necessary to be taking up that amount of road!. If he had been closer to the kerb, then there would have been an extra 4 feet between him and the BMW!. I think he was doing it on purpose to antagonise the drivers!.
Just after s/he passed you was a nice long gap in oncoming traffic that could have been used to pass you safely. But the "driver" was incapable of thinking ahead a few seconds. That's why they're called "idiots".
most ppl now are literally TERRIFIED to overtake a cyclist that it causes annoyance behind. truth is, they don`t want you in a car anymore. they want you in your district only.. its coming..
I experience this regularly. Cars follow my bike for miles terrified to overtake. It's so annoying. I'm glad of the drivers that go past quickly and close
As a lifelong cyclist I occasionally get a close pass, but most of the time I don't ride too far out from the curb, in order to give people enough room to get past me safely. The road side curb is not necessarily your friend and their occasions when this isn't possible. However, it's also your job to keep yourself safe. You will never be able to rely on a driver to do this on your behalf.
You (cyclist) was in the middle of the lane when you probably could have kept to the left a bit more. However, BMW did choose the wrong time to make a safe pass.
You’re taking up the whole lane with a bicycle. Maybe that’s why they passed so close. No wonder people get p***** off it’s there way of saying you don’t need the whole lane.

It’s called primary position and is recommended best practice
As someone who has also been cycling for 50 years I completely agree. The person taking the video is welcome to some cycling lessons.
@@stuwhite2337 and in those cycling lessons, they would be taught that primary position is the safest place to ride.
Yeh I thought that, long straight road and riding way out preventing others from passing.

Either keep to the left or do the speed limit.
I ride a bike off road and on road but not in the middle of the road riders like this give others a bad name.
Well said
If you don’t know the difference between the middle of the road and the middle of the lane, then it’s probably a good idea you don’t ride on the road
cyclists are their own worse enemy.

I totally agree. The new laws make things worse
What new laws? There haven’t been any new laws
@@nuttycommuter3718 fair point. Should have said guidance. However, not adhering to the guidance may get you prosecuted.
Do you tell women not to wear short skirts too?
@@nuttycommuter3718 in some circumstances of course I would.

No there wouldn’t. People that pass criminally close, do so wherever in the lane you ride
Did you not notice how much space the BMW driver was taking up?

Cyclist needs lesson in NOT hogging the road.
Mirrors not cameras.
And how does a mirror stop negligent drivers from breaking the law?
@@nuttycommuter3718 how does a camera pointing forward make you aware of a negligent driver approaching from the rear?
