The Chateau Opens Its Gates!

- This is the first of our 'Mini Chronicles' where we show you bitesize pieces of #family life in a #medieval #chateau renovation (sorry for the hashtags but I'm assured they're necessary). This year we've found that trying to make progress with a massive renovation (10 buildings, some completely derelict), manage a 130 acre estate, build a viable business and nurture a growing toddler, is quite ambitious for just the two of us. Adding in the project of filming it for UA-cam has at times been the straw that threatened to break the camel's back...
So while we'll continue to release longer videos that do justice to our biggest projects, we'll not put a timetable on that and instead we'll try to do these Mini Chronicles more frequently. They won't be beautifully filmed or edited because doing that takes literally days of time and we don't have that.
We could really do with both a boost at the moment and there are several things that you can do to help us know that it’s a good idea to continue our vlogs:
1. Watch the adverts. (We don't choose them, the algorithm does. But this is how we get our income).
2. Subscribe to our channel (UA-cam is more likely to promote us if we have more followers).
3. Like and comment on our videos. Even just an emoji! Also helps UA-cam know what to promote!)
4. Spread the word - send it to your friends and family!
5. Follow us on instagram and facebook (links below)
6. If you want to see more videos and be part of a lovely community, please join us on Patreon. The standard tier is 4 euros a month or its equivalent in your currency. We produce between four but more usually six extra videos a month, plus other posts, and we really open up our hearts and home in a way we can't do in public.

'I'm sat down because I'm being supportive' best line ever, good one Marc!
It's brilliant to see you back and laughing!
Oh, yes, supportive Marc welcoming Amy to live in the greenhouse with babies. What a man !!! She laughs... It's that banter that comes through in a very special way. Very interesting place, a couple who appreciates it, is seeking to restore it properly, not just "redecorate" it. The grounds, the greenhouse, the orchard, the cisterns, the whole thing. Not easy work, but they know what direction they're going in, study things well. A delight. Little Juliette is almost on her way...
This was just lovely! I realize I keep saying that but that’s really what comes to mind. You’re both so charming and interesting and I feel it’s just amazing to be let into your lives. And you do so much for your community on top of everything else!
PS the introduction makes me laugh all the time!
What a lovely comment - thank you for your kind words!
I love the name "mini chronicles" so cute 😃👍
Ah that’s nice thank you Erin.
That's a really nice program that encourages the local populace to be engaged with the history and current events that are happening at the Chateau, rather than having the property be an isolated element in their area.
love the fun introduction !Marc wearing a tuxedo driving a tractor, Amy wearing a dress driving a tractor and Clement happily playing the piano !!! good balance of fun and seriouness in your vlog!
Love the history details and don’t care about camera angles or that you’re not professional filmmakers! It’s so special to hear about the chateau’s and how you’re living out bridging the two worlds of past and present.
Thanks Kathleen. We’re very grateful for your suppprt!
Sometimes it's hard to take Marc seriously, when he has that mischievous smirk on his face. The dog panting in the background makes you laugh a little too. Oh Amy what an interesting life, I'm sure when Clement starts talking more he'll be the same. His dad will say just smile a little at Mom, she'll give in, be patient my son.
Marc smirks reminds me a little of Mr Bean, a fun and warm family, a pleasure for us all that they share the history and family life in their beautiful chateau
That blooming Pepper panting in the background. I never notice until I come to edit! She’s to be banned from all future filming 😂
Better a dog panting then a rooster crowing.
Well then we’re stuck K.J. Because we have flipping cockerels everywhere!!!
I could listen to Mark read an instructional manual! His voice and accent adds so much to the stories and history.
Same !!!
So so lovely to see you all again, Amy you are blooming and look fabulous. As always Clement and Pepper steal the show! I absolutely love watching your day to day life so just little snippets of ‘Mini Chronicles’ would be wonderful, and easy for me to keep caught up with whilst No. 2 son is feeding. x
Your Coach House is beautiful.I really like the way you set up for the presentation and learning the history!! Love Marc's sitting down to be "supportive"!Amy look wonderful! Thank you Marc for sharing the presentation info with us! Love from Vermont
Thank you Rebekah that’s very kind of you!
Mark is so funny XXX
I love the historical details. So interesting. Hello from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, USA.
Love your vlogs. One hint when showing something that catches reflections - if you tilt the top forward you will find the reflections gone.
Fascinating
Thank you Amy and Mark, I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. Maybe sometimes make sure to add dates because as an American my recollection of important French dates in history is sketchy at best. That's on me, not you two....
I’m hopeless at dates too and Marc just rattles through events. I’ll try to remember to pin him down!!!
Fascinating if only a brief snippet. I can fully understand how limited your spare time is if any. Thank you for sharing 👌😊
Thanks Judy!
This is so interesting.....love learning about where you live and the history. I remember in some of your older vlogs you took us around and explained quite about about your amazing home, land and buildings. I find it very interesting. Thank you. You are such a lovely couple and Clement is adorable!! You are looking very ready to "pop".... So excited for all of you. Love and blessings from Canada xoxo
You two are both amazing with everything that you get up to! 🤩🤩🤩
Ooh he is cheeky haha
Hi Guys, sweet vid with delightful interaction or should I say sparring between you both.. Terrific on screen chemistry. 💕. Yes No on Pepper's presence, Knights or soldiers, greenhouse or family 🤣😂 hilarious! The history is interesting and you obviously got a substantial keen audience given the dearth of publicity. Would gave been nice to see more crowds... AMY, the camera mustn't leave either of your hands. You've got so many super things going on a few flashes of that action / visitors (with permissions of course) would be brill! I found the postcards a bit of a hard sell via camera with the reflections... I couldn't see the differences in the windows. Liked the close ups of the other drawings though & to hear your plans. Loving the dry humour Marc. 😜.. Great start though guys, it truly reflects who you are. Publish and be damned 💋
Thanks for the feedback Diane - we really appreciate it!
I love you two . Always such fun to watch xx
Glad to see you back.
It's so nice to see you relaxed and smiling and bantering with each other. I suspect the soldiers vs. knights issue was that the chateau owner's family provided knight(s) and the government provided extra infantry/archers to be housed at the Chateau. I'd love to see an episode showing all the cisterns/ponds on the estate. When you do map vlogs, you can lay the map down and film from above it. An overlay with colors would help (or a a tracing with colors), especially since we can't always decipher what is written on the maps. It would be interesting to know how high above your land the Chateau sits, and how steeply angled the hills are.
Good luck with the new baby Amy xxxxxx
Thank you Lesley. It’s going to be a big ‘un!!!
Hello family of historically rich and marvellous, Chateau de Rosieres ♥ I loved this video and the post card photos etc. You are all both such a joy to watch, always great fun and amusing, and the history of your Chateau is endlessly fascinating. Marc you are a rascal and genius to build your Greenhouse, despite Amy having other priorities such as baby on its way! Fabulous as always and Amy you are beautiful and blooming in pregnancy. I don't know how you managed with so many visitors but wow you did, Congratulations!! 👏❤🌞xxx
Ah thank you Laura - you’re so kind! ❤️

You both are just such a delight to watch and get along so well. You need to take time for you and we get what we get. And we will be happy with it.

Spring planting would go so much better with seeds prestarted! Looking forward to a greenhouse.
Shhhh - don’t encourage Marc. He’ll ditch all the renovations in favour of the greenhouse!!!
Delightful!
Loved this vlog. Thx
That was so interesting, thank you xxxx
Just loved this mini snippet, hopefully the first of many to come! The adoration between the two of you (and Clement) is lovely to watch. Amy please take care and try to stay off your feet as much as you can (I know that sounds ridiculously impossible as I am typing it:)

And I have to say, you look absolutely stunning and happily pregnant! These final weeks are so filled with anticipation as you anxiously await the birth of your new baby! I secretly hope it's a sweet little girl....but a little brother for Clement is great as well! Anyway, you look amazing and your hair is like spun gold! All the best!

Thank you Brenda! Glad you enjoyed it!
Love the history lesson. Some of the pictures in the frames were hard to see because of the reflection from the glass. Would really enjoy more history lessons that involved the chateau. Amy you are radiant and look ready to pop. So in awe of all that you are doing given you are really pregnant and with Clement being a toddler. Looking forward to future vlogs.🥰😍😘
Lovely video, Amy nearly done now, those uncomfortable last days seen never ending. Take care, stay safe.🙋🏼♀️
Thank you! And sadly I still have a terribly long way to go - I’m just unusually enormous for my stage!!!
You two do make me laugh :)
😊😊😊
Always excited to get your notice of your latest video. It's like being invited to someone in my family's home. You both put us at ease and I personally wait like l did as a little girl sitting on the floor to listen to my elders stories from their past. Also very excited for the new baby and pray that all goes well. Clement is growing so much and now walking I see. He is so adorable. Janice from Arkansas USA
That’s extremely kind of you to say, Janice - thank you! It helps to motivate us to do more videos as we usually fear that we’re quite boring!
Great to see what has been happening and catch up with some history
Love the shortened intro!!
I miss seeing you guys. I totally understand that you have the many challenges on your plate and will be patient, and happy with whatever content you are able to provide. Just wanted to make sure that you know how much you are missed. Please take care and many blessings and prayers for your family and new little addition to your family.
We’re happy to be back and reconnecting with you really wonderful people. You lift us up!
Isn't the difference between a soilder and a knight, that the knight is given that title by royalty? Love this format and to see your faces again. Take care, Amy, with that little one and the contractions! I also love the interplay between you two! Fascinating history of your château. Love from Southern California! 💕
I definitely need to get to the bottom of the knight-soldier issue. I can’t get a straight answer from cheeky Marc!!!
Perhaps you should build a dog house, before the greenhouse- so Marc has someplace to sleep😀
😂😂😂
Love the history, so much in detail.
From Melb. Pls share your chateau story
