Your laundry endeavors remind me so much of my childhood, hanging the wet laundry out onto the line. The sheets and towels always smelled so good after drying in the sun all day. My grandmother even used an old wringer washing machine when I was very small, and it fascinated me. Getting out stains is a problem with messy husbands as well as children. I use a product called OxyClean that works pretty well, but I will remember the lemon juice trick for particularly difficult stains. I also love the old linens, and it’s hard to not bring them all home!
As for nasty comments, I just imagine that they must not be very happy people. I embroidered this poem when my children were small, and it always reminds me of what’s most important.
Cleaning and scrubbing can wait 'til tomorrow
For babies grow up we've learned to our sorrow,

Can't believe anyone would make negative comments. Myopic people. You are well travelled, as is your husband, you're going back into traditions, culture, and setting up a winery business. You and Marc have two lovely children, who also require a lot of attention due to their ages, yet you have the vision, the commitment, to make something out of your property. It's a beautiful thing. A sterile home is no home at all. We love your attitude, your taking life in your stride, challenges the same. It's not easy, Don't pay attention to the negative forces. Keep going, You have a good following... and supportive subscribers.
I love this sort of daily-life video as much as the renovation ones. A vlog doesn't have to be professionally filmed and slickly edited to be entertaining. It is nice to see things and people as they are.

Great video, thank you- I hate hearing about people writing negative comments, so sorry that it's been difficult for you. You are doing a great job and I appreciate you sharing your life with me/us. I love the everyday stuff even though I'm sure it takes a lot of time to do as well. I think people forget that when filming alone you're always having to go back and get the camera and then reposition the camera etc, never mind the time to edit. You explained it well in your post the other day. I'm wishing your family all the success in the world on this venture, and again, thanks for taking me/us along. :)

Well done for putting out a general video, especially given the difficulties you are working under. I, for one, found it interesting. It brought back memories of living in an old homestead on our hot and humid Northland, NZ, dairy farm with three young children and trying to keep up with all the housekeeping as well as working on the farm and helping with our hay contracting business. I felt quite overwhelmed at times. We now live in the stunning South Island where it is much drier. All our laundry is sun dried on outside lines - no dryer for us! I find the old-fashioned Sunlight bar soap great for stains - better than the"modern" stain removers. Take care of yourself in this busy time and remember "this too shall pass" as the children get older and the madness abates. Kia kaha.

Years ago we lived in a late 1800 house that was 3 levels and they put in a laundry shoot in the 3rd floor bathroom near the bedrooms. This was helpful with 4 kids under the age of 5. Hard part was putting the clothes away up 2 flights of stairs.
Another reason that chateaus had maids, i knew that it took work both inside and outside to keep a chateau running and you both are doing a fantastic job.

Our 1940s house had a laundry shoot. My mother nearly killed us when she saw us jumping down into the laundry cart. 😆 We also hung laundry in the basement. Back in those days she used a wash tub and mangle. I remember when we got our first washer in the mid 60s then our first dryer around 1970.

Stuff a large jar with lemon peels any time you get, cover with white vinegar. Let steep for a couple weeks. Use for laundry stains or general house cleaning. Hope this helps. I enjoyed the video of the reality of everyday life. Thank you. 💜
You could also take those same lemon peels and cover them with vodka; viola, you have limoncello to enjoy after or while hanging out the laundry. There are many “how to videos” on UA-cam showing how to accomplish this very easy process. Enjoy! 🤤🥰

I do this for cleaning but have never thought to add it to the wash. If I can add a second use for the vinegar/peel mix, dry out the spent peel and sprinkle them through the garden, this works really well to keep cats and other animals out of the flower beds and other plantings.
it's no nice that you're trying new things Amy. Just try different things and you'll figure it all out.. But don't stop that doesn't solve anything and you've come so far. I really enjoyed another slice of your routine with the laundry. Amy, a disrupted night's sleep can all bring us low at times. You show great resilience and as for recording your life at the chateau on UA-cam, just do what you can manage - some UA-camrs put out a load of content but it might be only 4 minutes long. You and Marc have achieved so much and we like coming along on the journey!

I stayed in the south of France once, they had a huge barn with loads of washing lines, everything dried really quickly even the days it rained. Thanks for showing daily life. I had three kids and the washing was never ending. At about age 13 they were shown how to do their washing. It was always interesting when they ran out of clothes, my daughter just went out and bought more pants, she got the hang of it in the end. Stay well
funny how we always assume others have it as easy as we do. i never imagined laundry for you is such an ordeal - i was exhausted just watching you. I have a clothes line which i love to use as laundry smells so nice after but i don't have to use it - i have a clothes dryer which i can hear over the rolls of thunder that we're experiencing. loved this vlog - keep smiling :>)

Amy you need a little wagon to put your laundry basket in to transfer your clothes to the line and back. Work smarter not harder is a good motto. A little red wagon has so many uses.
We have a little wagon but it’s longer to go and get it than just to carry the laundry! Either way the speed is limited to how fast I can walk, and I’m just about strong enough to carry a laundry basket 😉
That was really interesting as it also shows how hardworking you are. Being a mum, renovating a huge chateau and still needing to do the day to day jobs. I take my hat of to you! Loved this video, but think you need two machines or industrial size washing machine! Two tiny children are hard work without the renovations and inconvenience around you, you do marvels!
Thank you Amy. I loved your video. My goodness though it is quite a long walk with heavy washing to arrive at your beauty spot. I couldn't believe how many items kept coming out of one basket! 😳 Another comment mentioned a trolly to transfer it to the line, good idea. I would love to see all the outbuildings when you have time, they are gorgeous. What am amazing and huge machine able to heat all the Chateau etc. Quite incredible and Marc's water system is genius. How wonderful to have fresh spring water. I think you need a large industrial washing machine at some stage. It's really lovely of you to make this video. The heating system was amazing.
Tho undeniably an exhausting, seemingly endless chore and definitely not everyone’s favorite household task, it was very satisfying for me to keep the clothing and linens for our family of 5 clean and organized. Never all done at once of course. Challenging seasons with babies, multiple kids involved in athletics, working a full time day job, returning from camping or long trips, or having a houseful of company for days or weeks make a daunting laundry pile. Figuring out the stain removal system is key! So thankful for automatic washing machines instead of wash boards or the early washers my grandparents used! Also having a dedicated place for laundry is great. I remember the mountainous piles in our utility room spilling over into the hallway. Appreciate your problem solving attitude - life goes quickly and doing the laundry is never the worst thing you have to tackle. Before you know it your kids can share the load/loads. Thankful you have such a beautiful family and obviously enjoy them immensely. Love your channel and watch when you have time to post a video. Don’t know how you do it all!
When I had rust stains on our white lawn furniture cushions, I found a recipe of liquid soap,lemon juice,salt. I put a heavy paste of the mixture on the cushions an put them in the sun for 2 days. I was so excited they came out gorgeous. Keep the mixture wet.
I liked the video....great feeling when the washing line is full and the sun shining. Love the antique linen and linen press.
Thanx for the laundry tip, never thought of that idea managing stains. My late mom used to rub Sunlight soap (also lemon based) on her stained washing and then spread it out in the sun as well, before washing. We then lived on a farm in Namibia and there was enough space and sun, very hot sun♨️, to do it that way. That was in the 60s, giving my age away😉

Amy, "Like" Thank you for the citric acid idea. I definitely will use that on stains. I have hung out laundry for 53 years. First in Pennsylvania and now for the past 24 years in Florida, USA.
It is a great way to conserve energy.

Having lived in a very old, large home in France for 10 years, I too had to move about, room to room, hang washing in cellars as I had a BNB with lots of guests, and use whatever space I could. I loved your drying space with the sunset views…how glorious! And that armoire full of antiques linens…my dream! Loved it! I lived on a commune in Northern California in the 60’s. Although we did not have a chateau, we had tons of laundry & had to either do it by hand, boil water, hang it to dry or drive miles into the closest town to use a laundromat! It was a real task either way!!! I really appreciate all you do as well as keeping it real!❣️

Gall soap also works for stain removal, white vinegar is a good fabric softener for old linens

Amy you are a go getter! I am a lazy washer - everything is popped in together to wash, then everything into a dryer. I do however have a magical way of getting rid of any stain - spray with peroxide and give a little scrub with dawn dishwashing soap and they vanish instantly. Once you try it any other method seems useless. It is nice to see real life in a chateau because I think many people glorify chateau life unrealistically. OH and negative nellies can sod off. 😉 You are doing a great job Amy - hang in there! 🥰
Hydrogen peroxide is my go to as well. In Canada you can buy a product specifically for baby clothing that you spray on the clothing in advance of washing. It's called Oxy-Clean. I'm no baby, but it works wonders on my tops with pasta sauce, olive oil spills, etc.
So happy I watched this video, as I just rescued one of my mother's badly stained crocheted doilies. Shout, Oxiclean, and regular bleach did absolutely nothing to alleviate the stain. Hang in there, Amy, in the blink of an eye, your children will be heading off to college. Savor your time with the little ones, and I have discovered in my long life that when a door closes, a window always opens up.

How wonderful that you have taken over such a huge project and that you do it with complete love. I'm "74," and I can't imagine all of the work you do on a daily basis. I found this to be very interesting, it's great to learn how chores, that we all need to do, are done in different areas of the world. I remember hanging clothes outside to dry growing up. I worked for the civil service for 3 years and it taught me about time and motion. My thoughts are, you need to make tasks easier
..I’d say give it a few years of lugging that laundry all that way…she may rethink it..

The linen cupboard is wonderful and yes antique sheets are far superior IMHO. I love my washing line..no better smell in the world than 'sunny breeze' dried washing🌞.

Oh my Amy, that’s an enormous house to have no helpers, I remember struggling to keep a three bedroom house and garden in order with two young children and going out to work. If and when funds allow, maybe another sink for soaking, or and another washing machine too? I can’t even begin to imagine your workload.

Amazing the way you figure the most efficient way to heat, and take care of laundry. It's a never ending chore. I've also followed the laundry challenges at La Lande. Lot's of guests with many sheets, towels, and wash cloths in addition to volunteers and permanent residents clothing. It's the least romantic part of living in a chateau. You and your children always look fresh and neat. Well done!

If you just soak the clothes overnight in Soda crystals everything will come out. love the idea of citric acid; will try that!
That’s so great! I think that seeing real life adaptions to unique locations is so interesting. Obviously you had to adapt to doing the laundry when you moved to the chateau and made changes as you went along to best suite your needs. Unlike most of us in North America, we buy a house with a laundry room and no thought goes into it at all, just put the washing into the machine, transfer to the dryer and that’s it!. No beautiful walk around the chateau to a stunning picturesque location to hang the socks and sheets. I’m sure it is hard, heavy and laborious, but oh my you convinced me,it’s pure joy! Also I did not know about the citric acid trick and I will pass that tip along to my children who have small dirty children🤣🤣😂
P.s. For those viewers with dish washers, citric acid is great for cleaning the insides - pour some in the bottom and run the light cycle. Works like a charm! I used the powdered drink Tang😃

When I have used lemon juice in a recipe I always put the lemon shell in the dishwasher to help with the rinse and a beautiful lemon smell when It's finished and you open the door 🍋
The older ladies in my church always used Tang to clean the big 40 cup coffee urns.

Isn’t it nice that you have viewers who are so perfect that they feel free to criticize? Maybe they should fly over and do the renovations for you or give you loads of money to pay for them so you can just be a tidy little chatelaine.
Lovely video! I enjoyed seeing how you do your laundry. And I learned something: citric acid works on stains! That wardrobe was HUGE! And the set up for your laundry was, too. Amy I can relate to your life I had 3 children under 5 and had difficulty having time to go to the loo often leaving the door open to keep an eye on them all. I would not have had the time or energy to vlog although we didn't have that in my day. Don't beat yourself up you and Marc are amazing well done on sticking to what you believe in.
