I can think of another possible explanation for the civilian skeletons. The National Guard are part-time, and get called up in times of emergency, such as a nuclear attack. These skeletons aren't (all) desperate civilians seeking shelter. Some are probably National Guard members reporting for duty, only to be caught in the blast just a moment too late...
Plausible. I spent some time in the National Guard, and can see this scenario play out. Although, there would be at least some members that would have reported in uniform, or at least with army bags with their gear to change. People outside did not display any of those signs, so Ox probably got it right.

I doubt the headless skeleton was killed for breaking the rules. He likely smoked a cigarette before killing himself, possibly with a large caliber rifle or a shotgun, which is why the head is detached. I imagine the No Smoking sign is just a joke. The gun is likely gone because someone else took it afterward.
The national guard IS part of those 4 branches. It consist of the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard. The only difference is that guardsmen are dual enlisted they take orders from the federal government like any other solider or airman but they can also take orders from the governor of their respected state to help with natural disasters and/or civil unrest.

The US was hardly a pre-war utopia. Boston was under martial law, the government and military were conduction inhuman experiments on prisoners of war and their own citizens. Corporations were running free to dump toxic waste and nuclear material in public lakes. Corruption in all levels of government was the norm and rationing was as bad as in any of the real world wars. Rioting was common. There are some terminals around where people saw soldiers joking about who they would shoot first if rioting broke out at protests and ration lines and in previous they even showed power armored soldiers executing citizens in front of news cameras for rioting. One of the themes of Fallout was that the pre-war world was very much a distopian society of the sort writers like Orwell and Bradbury warned us of. I think you are right about what happened. Once bombs were falling a lot of civilians probably did start rushing the National Guard yard and were gunned down by soldiers. People looking for safety killed by those supposedly there to protect them. I can't really blame the soldiers either though. They were as scared as the civilians and saw a bunch of people charging the position they were assigned to defend. They reacted as they were trained to do. And ultimate it was futile since everyone died when the bombs fell anyway. The scene you describe with the vertibird is sketchy though.more likely people were trying to escape in it when the EMP knocked out the electronics, sending it crashing back onto the helipad, with the people inside jumping or being thrown clear.
I'm kinda torn on the skeletons outside the station here. It seems like a lot of them might be the National Guard trying to get to their posts, but dying halfway there. There are quite a few skeletons, but it is important to remember that the National Guard is not the standing army, and do have to get from their homes to the post. If they got seriously irradiated from the blasts, it's not impossible that they died shortly after standing up out of their cars.
Father Grigori good theroy. Alison wonderland commented that they may have been rioters as there was large scale food riots prior to the war. I think the wheelchair may have been from a combat veteran. They may have lost a leg or two fighting in Alaska or China and been given this job to free up able bodied soldiers. You don't need legs to do paperwork. No officer would shoot a soldier inside, there would be blood and brains all over you carpet. Take him outside to do that.
Given that when they invaded Canada they happily "pacified" any civilians (can be seen on earlier fallout footage) I am quite sure that they had no qualms about shooting civilians at the yard. From other locations you get snippets of lore about the chaos and shootings going on after the bombs dropped. There was already military road blocks and more than likely martial law before the War and the entire country was experiencing civil unrest. It is more than likely for the soldiers to shoot civvies swarming them to deter others unfortunately.
The national guard is to protect the United States citizens in state of a national emergency. (I.E. nuclear EMP, atomic warhead.) Now some are civilians, most definitely. But others are likely national guard going to work. Cause the national guard isn't a standing army, it's all volunteered people. (Atleast most.), so it would be possible for them going to work one day. Only to die in a nuclear blast,

Hehe. I'm a part-time wheelchair user and I didn't think that far. If he worked there regularly he should have a ground floor office ofcourse and the building should, but I am guessing don't, have ramps. I'm just happy they went as far as including some disabled parking spaces in the world and the abandoned wheelchairs.
There should've been a longer period of time that we were in pre-war sanctuary. I think it would've been quite interesting. Maybe we could actually go to the park... maybe go to a neighbor's house.

Honestly, I feel that Shoddycast did an extremely poor job with capturing the lore of Fallout 4. It was as if they were more interested in telling their own story in the Commonwealth instead of the one that Bethesda crafted. After watching Oxhorn's video, you begin to appreciate the little stories that Bethesda was trying to tell and how how these stories are all interconnected.
Why would you want to pick them off one by one? Its so much fun mowing down a hoard of charging ghouls with assault rifles, missiles and mines. So many pretty colors flying around =D
I think you are correct Ox, seems when the citizens got word of the bombs headed their way, they panicked and swarmed the National Guard buildings. I would like to imagine that the guards there announced to the panicked people they would not be granted access to the facility. Well as it's said, desperate times, desperate measures. People most likely thought they wouldn't dare open fire on them and tried to swarm the place anyway, and many ended up being gunned down. Great video as usual thank you.
sarge all the weight on one side should cause it to become off balance. If it dips enough for just a moment the wing that hits the ground is gone and it should start a short spin. The weight distribution is different when taking off and it is hanging off the rail.
Helicopters today can lift similar weights and easily be pushed enough to cause problems. As ox said, the Vertibird was most likely starting to take off as it tipped. All you have to do to fuck up a helicopter is push it as it takes off, if the pilot doesnt account for this force the helicopter would start to tip and then if unlucky and still uncorrected, the blades would hit the ground and destroy the helicopter and most likely de-limb anyone around it.
Here's an alternate theory concerning the scene on the vertibird pad. The pilot and several high level civilian officials were on their way to the pad for evacuation, having been given advance warning that a strike was imminent. Before they were able to board, a bomb lands and the blasts takes them out as well as turning over the veribird.
I find Ox loves to over dramatize and jumps to the least plausible conclusion based on the evidence more times then not. That said John above has the most plausible idea of what happened and was my thoughts when I first saw the scene. As the civies in front were rushing here for shelter and being shot at the VIPs/military family members and officers were escaping out the back to the vertibird, however due to the chaos left to late and got caught in the blast. That makes FAR more sense and plausible then the action hero movie scene Ox tries to justify.
That's what I love about these videos: the attention to small details. I've logged a bit over 400 hours in this game, been to the NG Yard more times than I can remember, and never once noticed the dead smoker and the bullet hole above him.
I'd always pass right by this place and never think much of it when I played it before, but now whenever I pass by it I'm just like "hey, that's what I'll be" XD
The sentry bot only attacks if you open the door inside the armory to get to the power armor. The computer to open the door says "Alert System Lockdown, Civil Unrest reported" and that "Password override detected". So my guess is that the Sentry bot is there to punish whoever breached security.

For What it's worth my 1st impression of this scene was that 200 yrs. is a long time & could've been anyone. But more importantly it was a statement about the modern crack down on smoking in public places perhaps from the smokers perspective.

First time I saw a Sentry in FO4 was here after coming out of the Armory. Scared the shit out of me because it charged at me as soon as I got out the door. This was about 3 hours after the game's release, so I didn't know what to expect

About the wheelchair of the recruitment officer, I had instandly the scene from the movie "Starship Troopers" in mind where Jonny Rico enlists for the mobile infantry, "the mobile infantry made me what I am". Possibly another movie reference.
Technically the 4 branches were the only ones sent over seas because the national guard is part of the army ( their is also an air national guard that's part of the Air Force )
Naw, stop thinknig so rationally. It was clearly the chinese spies all rushing the NG base in prep for the Red Army to sweep the nation. Only problem, is that during the firefight, more bombs wiped them all out. Since no Chinese Assault weapons are in game files, the evidence on the "civies" was erased.
This games surprises me everytime, within now three playtrues, I was so often In this facility I never noticed the powerarmor in the shipping containers. The skeletons around could also be servicemen and woman who were offduty and rushed in as the alarms sounded, just to get caught by the blast.
I served all of my time in the military in the National guard and I’m getting a kick out of Ox saying that the National Guard wasn’t part of the 4 branches. There’s the Army NG and the Air NG which are components of the Army and Air Force respectively. While mostly training once a month for 2 days and 2 weeks sometime during the summer we do get called upon for State emergencies like flooding and riots, that’s state active duty (or SAD). But not only that we get placed into federal active duty where we exercise our normal function as soldiers over seas or on non-combat deployments. My unit last went to Afghanistan before I arrived. Then in 2018 we were deployed to Guantanamo to assist with the running operation there.
It seems more like he was clarifying it's not it's own seperate division. It's parts of the other ones. Because I used to think it was the Army/Navy/Air force/and NAtional Guard.

I think the vertibird was tipped over because they were evacuating high ranks soldiers, when the citizens got through the barriers and low ranking guards. They then grabbed their guns, and shot of one of the wings while the vertibird was lifting off the ground. Then the vertibird tipped and then the bombs drop, and scene has been set for when we exit the vault.
Very perceptive to notice the snipers stationed on the pillboxes; I came to the same conclusion: that they opened fire and surveilled the distance for stragglers and other non-military personnel. Big thumbs up, Ox!
It wasn't civie's rushing the base. It was Cinese Infiltrators trying to destabalize any remaining Military installations so the Red Army could sweep the nation. Too bad for them, that more bombs fell as they go in a firefight. Since no chinese assault weapons are in the game, it removed any evidence of the attack.
I think what happened with the vertibird was that maybe the officer was taking either his family (which might have gotten him shot down) or an important family of the area to a safe location but when the bombs dropped the vertibird crashed. If he was trying to take his own family, it makes sense that all of the bodies would be outside the vehicle, whereas in a crash they would be inside.
I have been to the National Guard Training Yard so many times and I just now found the second suit of power armour in the container in my most recent trip after about 220 hours.
Aww, I remember this site. As soon as I left the building with the power armor I was really low leveled and kept getting killed by the sentry bot. I went back inside to get the PA but to shockingly find that the Sentry could get inside but not in the room with the PA. I basically cheesed the fight with it, lmao. Even with the PA, it was missing some pieces so it kind of helped only slightly.
I found a full suit of MK 1 X-01 power armor when I was around level 30. I was so giddy about it, and to this day, I still have and use that very suit.
The skeletons also could be dead gunners. And the soldiers would be our there because well there's a war going on they don't want any attacks on the place and when nuclear bombs start to fall the military is everywhere.
actually, if you not alarm all the barracks - the glowing one hides in toilet. BTW, National Guard Training Yard is great place to farm legendaries on the low levels 14:11 - the protectron activates if you trigger laser beams, and it's hostyle.
The Vertibird may have been knocked over by blast wave of the bombs. Meaning it didn't take off in time, just like the one at the Vault 111 entrance and the one in the musem of freedom that was downed by the EMP.

After seeing the Boston mayoral bunker, I honestly think that opening fire on civilians is necessary when the bombs fall, mass panic drives them into doing stupid and selfish things. It's like Nick says when visiting Diamond City "good people can do horrible things when they're scared."

It would of been cool if Bethesda (or a crafty modder) included Fort Devens. As a central Massachusetts native Fort Devens is a currently smaller base in OTL. It also has the possible fact that the Spanish flu may or may of not of stated here (when it was Camp Devens in 1917). I sure you make up some more about the new plague or FEV. Fun Fact: At my high school where I went the water from the bubblers was contaminated due to the fire fighting foam the military used. You could make lore or fan on out that.

This could have already been said, but some of the civillian clothed skellitons could have been soldiers that were on inactive serverce in route because they were activated last minute. Unlickly because they probavly would have gotten the call sooner, but still possible. I was active duty army then i went in the reserves for a while, and the calls were suprisingly last minute some times.
In every game I have done Shelly Tiller is on the ground floor. As far as all the "civilian" skeletons you find, most of them are probably the remains of off-duty guard who reported in when the government would have sent out the first alert to the military. They probably didn't have time to change clothes. Others may have been civilians who were killed in the chaos after the attack when they tried to storm the complex to loot weapons and other gear. The sentry bot is NOT activated when you go into the armory, it is activated when you open the door to get the power armor.
I assumed those events happen after the bombs drop due to some of the tapes in the surrounding area talking about the events right after the bombs dropped. Same with the other check point where only military personnel and their families are allowed in.
Keep up the good work Ox. Also, you might already know this, but there is a bunker filled with ferals near the Atomatoy Factory. Just head slightly east from due south and you should reach it.
I always have to go back and make sure I did everything. I didn't even know there was a side quest here. I've been here so many times though. I also didn't know there was a power armor in those containers. I'm going to go check it out again.
I think it is far more likely the blast or EMP from the nukes caused the vertibird to get nocked over rather than three people as the vertibirds show no problem keeping level when someone in power armor jumps out and power armor weighs more.
Due to mods and console commands this place is a insane war zone every other time I visited it due to feral ghouls, supermutants, gunners, minutemen, UIF, and shortly after my arrival the settlers from County Crossing.
After laying many a trap and save for the sentry bot it seems to teleport. Tested by tossing mines right outside its door and then halfway to the building. the mines by the door never went off. But all the ones placed on the ledge by the building did. I guess its scripted to be right at that ledge every time. 8 mines tend to kill it before you've realized it was there. XD

I got another theory regarding the National Guardsmen at the Barricade outside, although the Fallout world and the world before the bombs fell is indeed very dark and grim, either the those civilians were indeed civilians trying to seek shelter and were annihilated by the Nuclear Blast aswell as the Guardsmen at the very same time so close to perceived shelter yet so far, or and that's what I like to believe, as the National Guard is a Reserve Force, those civilians were actually Guardsmen themselves rushing to their post to get mobilized, as a member of the Reserve Force of my country that's what I would do after all. As a reference to my theory I take Germantown from FO:3 where the National Guard indeed tried to stand their ground and help civilians from the surrounding area. But that's only my two cents.
It is also possible that there was some sort of program to place combat injured vets in desk jobs in the national guard, allowing them to remain gainfully employed. He could also have been a civilian contractor.

Since the guard is farther from the glowing sea than sanctuary... Also I have to agree with some others that a few people clinging to one side would not be enough to tip the vertabird.

at like 7:30 i think that guard may have shot himself and then overtime someone else just picked up the gun. Its been 200 years and his presence implys other people could have survived. And as you say the location has been looted.
I love how you piece together all the little bits. For example, I would have never thought of the fact that the civilian corpses were near their cars instead of next to the building meaning they were fired upon. You would be a great detective. Side note, I enjoy X6-88's commentary in your videos. He has become one of my most favorite companions. I used to hugely adore both Deacon's witty weirdness and Piper's tolerance for my chem and hoarding habits, but at max affinity they keep repeating the same annoying dialogue and I got really tired of it. Now I prefer X6-88 and Curie and Cait. I play on PS4 so because of the Cait bug I can't get her to max affinity, which I'm not sure is a good or bad thing. Does she have annoying repeating max affinity dialogue? I guess I'll never know.

The crippled recruitment officer might not have been deployed overseas at all though. During the last months of the war there was severe civil unrest and rioting, enough so that power armor was deployed to keep the populace in line. (Which also explains why the guards likely gunned down the panicked civilians outside too) It would not surprise me if makeshift bombs were used against the soldiers, considering how far the unrest had gone. This also backs the theory that the soldiers deemed they needed to defend the facility with deadly force. They didn't know if it was an attack or not. Has there been any reference in fallout to bombings and/or suicide-bombings against military targets in america? Because that wouldn't surprise me. Storage room across the barracks, there's also a stealthboy on the shelf to the left of the crate

The robot is not an issue if you have a decent gun, but I had some pipe pistol and a 2 barrel shot gun.

One of the themes of Fallout was that the pre-war world was very much a distopian society of the sort writers like Orwell and Bradbury warned us of.
I think you are right about what happened. Once bombs were falling a lot of civilians probably did start rushing the National Guard yard and were gunned down by soldiers. People looking for safety killed by those supposedly there to protect them. I can't really blame the soldiers either though. They were as scared as the civilians and saw a bunch of people charging the position they were assigned to defend. They reacted as they were trained to do. And ultimate it was futile since everyone died when the bombs fell anyway.
The scene you describe with the vertibird is sketchy though.more likely people were trying to escape in it when the EMP knocked out the electronics, sending it crashing back onto the helipad, with the people inside jumping or being thrown clear.

I'm kinda torn on the skeletons outside the station here. It seems like a lot of them might be the National Guard trying to get to their posts, but dying halfway there. There are quite a few skeletons, but it is important to remember that the National Guard is not the standing army, and do have to get from their homes to the post. If they got seriously irradiated from the blasts, it's not impossible that they died shortly after standing up out of their cars.

I think the wheelchair may have been from a combat veteran. They may have lost a leg or two fighting in Alaska or China and been given this job to free up able bodied soldiers. You don't need legs to do paperwork. No officer would shoot a soldier inside, there would be blood and brains all over you carpet. Take him outside to do that.
Given that when they invaded Canada they happily "pacified" any civilians (can be seen on earlier fallout footage) I am quite sure that they had no qualms about shooting civilians at the yard. From other locations you get snippets of lore about the chaos and shootings going on after the bombs dropped. There was already military road blocks and more than likely martial law before the War and the entire country was experiencing civil unrest. It is more than likely for the soldiers to shoot civvies swarming them to deter others unfortunately.
The national guard is to protect the United States citizens in state of a national emergency. (I.E. nuclear EMP, atomic warhead.)
Now some are civilians, most definitely. But others are likely national guard going to work. Cause the national guard isn't a standing army, it's all volunteered people. (Atleast most.), so it would be possible for them going to work one day. Only to die in a nuclear blast,

If he worked there regularly he should have a ground floor office ofcourse and the building should, but I am guessing don't, have ramps. I'm just happy they went as far as including some disabled parking spaces in the world and the abandoned wheelchairs.

Honestly, I feel that Shoddycast did an extremely poor job with capturing the lore of Fallout 4. It was as if they were more interested in telling their own story in the Commonwealth instead of the one that Bethesda crafted. After watching Oxhorn's video, you begin to appreciate the little stories that Bethesda was trying to tell and how how these stories are all interconnected.
That and they just stopped updating in general. Though I will admit that their psycho series was fucking hilarious.

I think you are correct Ox, seems when the citizens got word of the bombs headed their way, they panicked and swarmed the National Guard buildings. I would like to imagine that the guards there announced to the panicked people they would not be granted access to the facility. Well as it's said, desperate times, desperate measures. People most likely thought they wouldn't dare open fire on them and tried to swarm the place anyway, and many ended up being gunned down. Great video as usual thank you.

Your explanation for the vertibird tipping over is farfetched as a vertibird can be seen carrying At Least 2 fully power armored up soldiers
sarge all the weight on one side should cause it to become off balance. If it dips enough for just a moment the wing that hits the ground is gone and it should start a short spin. The weight distribution is different when taking off and it is hanging off the rail.
Helicopters today can lift similar weights and easily be pushed enough to cause problems.
As ox said, the Vertibird was most likely starting to take off as it tipped. All you have to do to fuck up a helicopter is push it as it takes off, if the pilot doesnt account for this force the helicopter would start to tip and then if unlucky and still uncorrected, the blades would hit the ground and destroy the helicopter and most likely de-limb anyone around it.
Here's an alternate theory concerning the scene on the vertibird pad. The pilot and several high level civilian officials were on their way to the pad for evacuation, having been given advance warning that a strike was imminent. Before they were able to board, a bomb lands and the blasts takes them out as well as turning over the veribird.
Or the shockwave of the bombs dropped on the Commonwealth tipped it over during the war
I find Ox loves to over dramatize and jumps to the least plausible conclusion based on the evidence more times then not. That said John above has the most plausible idea of what happened and was my thoughts when I first saw the scene. As the civies in front were rushing here for shelter and being shot at the VIPs/military family members and officers were escaping out the back to the vertibird, however due to the chaos left to late and got caught in the blast. That makes FAR more sense and plausible then the action hero movie scene Ox tries to justify.
The people out front are probably National Guard members showing up to their post who died in the nuclear blast.
That's what I love about these videos: the attention to small details. I've logged a bit over 400 hours in this game, been to the NG Yard more times than I can remember, and never once noticed the dead smoker and the bullet hole above him.

The sentry bot only attacks if you open the door inside the armory to get to the power armor. The computer to open the door says "Alert System Lockdown, Civil Unrest reported" and that "Password override detected". So my guess is that the Sentry bot is there to punish whoever breached security.

First time I saw a Sentry in FO4 was here after coming out of the Armory. Scared the shit out of me because it charged at me as soon as I got out the door. This was about 3 hours after the game's release, so I didn't know what to expect

Technically the 4 branches were the only ones sent over seas because the national guard is part of the army ( their is also an air national guard that's part of the Air Force )
I think that the civilians attacked the soldiers because they wouldn't let them into the training yard so they had to open fire

Naw, stop thinknig so rationally. It was clearly the chinese spies all rushing the NG base in prep for the Red Army to sweep the nation. Only problem, is that during the firefight, more bombs wiped them all out.
Since no Chinese Assault weapons are in game files, the evidence on the "civies" was erased.
This games surprises me everytime, within now three playtrues, I was so often In this facility I never noticed the powerarmor in the shipping containers.
The skeletons around could also be servicemen and woman who were offduty and rushed in as the alarms sounded, just to get caught by the blast.
I served all of my time in the military in the National guard and I’m getting a kick out of Ox saying that the National Guard wasn’t part of the 4 branches. There’s the Army NG and the Air NG which are components of the Army and Air Force respectively. While mostly training once a month for 2 days and 2 weeks sometime during the summer we do get called upon for State emergencies like flooding and riots, that’s state active duty (or SAD). But not only that we get placed into federal active duty where we exercise our normal function as soldiers over seas or on non-combat deployments. My unit last went to Afghanistan before I arrived. Then in 2018 we were deployed to Guantanamo to assist with the running operation there.
It seems more like he was clarifying it's not it's own seperate division. It's parts of the other ones. Because I used to think it was the Army/Navy/Air force/and NAtional Guard.

I think the vertibird was tipped over because they were evacuating high ranks soldiers, when the citizens got through the barriers and low ranking guards. They then grabbed their guns, and shot of one of the wings while the vertibird was lifting off the ground. Then the vertibird tipped and then the bombs drop, and scene has been set for when we exit the vault.
Just so you know, the national guard is a component of the Army. The Air Force has a national guard component too.

Very perceptive to notice the snipers stationed on the pillboxes; I came to the same conclusion: that they opened fire and surveilled the distance for stragglers and other non-military personnel. Big thumbs up, Ox!
It wasn't civie's rushing the base. It was Cinese Infiltrators trying to destabalize any remaining Military installations so the Red Army could sweep the nation. Too bad for them, that more bombs fell as they go in a firefight.

I think what happened with the vertibird was that maybe the officer was taking either his family (which might have gotten him shot down) or an important family of the area to a safe location but when the bombs dropped the vertibird crashed. If he was trying to take his own family, it makes sense that all of the bodies would be outside the vehicle, whereas in a crash they would be inside.
I stumbled across this place at level 9 on a stealth character. It was EXTREMELY tough, especially as I didn't have suppressors yet. xD
I had to pop basically all of my chems just to deal with the glowing one, and just run away from the bot that pops up after you leave the armory.
I have been to the National Guard Training Yard so many times and I just now found the second suit of power armour in the container in my most recent trip after about 220 hours.

Aww, I remember this site. As soon as I left the building with the power armor I was really low leveled and kept getting killed by the sentry bot.
I went back inside to get the PA but to shockingly find that the Sentry could get inside but not in the room with the PA.
I basically cheesed the fight with it, lmao.
Even with the PA, it was missing some pieces so it kind of helped only slightly.
I found a full suit of MK 1 X-01 power armor when I was around level 30. I was so giddy about it, and to this day, I still have and use that very suit.

The Vertibird may have been knocked over by blast wave of the bombs. Meaning it didn't take off in time, just like the one at the Vault 111 entrance and the one in the musem of freedom that was downed by the EMP.

After seeing the Boston mayoral bunker, I honestly think that opening fire on civilians is necessary when the bombs fall, mass panic drives them into doing stupid and selfish things. It's like Nick says when visiting Diamond City "good people can do horrible things when they're scared."

It would of been cool if Bethesda (or a crafty modder) included Fort Devens. As a central Massachusetts native Fort Devens is a currently smaller base in OTL. It also has the possible fact that the Spanish flu may or may of not of stated here (when it was Camp Devens in 1917). I sure you make up some more about the new plague or FEV.
Fun Fact: At my high school where I went the water from the bubblers was contaminated due to the fire fighting foam the military used. You could make lore or fan on out that.

This could have already been said, but some of the civillian clothed skellitons could have been soldiers that were on inactive serverce in route because they were activated last minute. Unlickly because they probavly would have gotten the call sooner, but still possible. I was active duty army then i went in the reserves for a while, and the calls were suprisingly last minute some times.
In every game I have done Shelly Tiller is on the ground floor.
As far as all the "civilian" skeletons you find, most of them are probably the remains of off-duty guard who reported in when the government would have sent out the first alert to the military. They probably didn't have time to change clothes. Others may have been civilians who were killed in the chaos after the attack when they tried to storm the complex to loot weapons and other gear.
The sentry bot is NOT activated when you go into the armory, it is activated when you open the door to get the power armor.
06/09/2023 Playing Fallout 4 since March and have yet to find the way in to the Armory. This video sure helped.
I assumed those events happen after the bombs drop due to some of the tapes in the surrounding area talking about the events right after the bombs dropped. Same with the other check point where only military personnel and their families are allowed in.
Keep up the good work Ox. Also, you might already know this, but there is a bunker filled with ferals near the Atomatoy Factory. Just head slightly east from due south and you should reach it.

I think it is far more likely the blast or EMP from the nukes caused the vertibird to get nocked over rather than three people as the vertibirds show no problem keeping level when someone in power armor jumps out and power armor weighs more.

Due to mods and console commands this place is a insane war zone every other time I visited it due to feral ghouls, supermutants, gunners, minutemen, UIF, and shortly after my arrival the settlers from County Crossing.
After laying many a trap and save for the sentry bot it seems to teleport. Tested by tossing mines right outside its door and then halfway to the building. the mines by the door never went off. But all the ones placed on the ledge by the building did. I guess its scripted to be right at that ledge every time. 8 mines tend to kill it before you've realized it was there. XD
The PA in the back yard in the containers might be an X-01 at around level 30, thats where i found some.

I got another theory regarding the National Guardsmen at the Barricade outside, although the Fallout world and the world before the bombs fell is indeed very dark and grim, either the those civilians were indeed civilians trying to seek shelter and were annihilated by the Nuclear Blast aswell as the Guardsmen at the very same time so close to perceived shelter yet so far, or and that's what I like to believe, as the National Guard is a Reserve Force, those civilians were actually Guardsmen themselves rushing to their post to get mobilized, as a member of the Reserve Force of my country that's what I would do after all. As a reference to my theory I take Germantown from FO:3 where the National Guard indeed tried to stand their ground and help civilians from the surrounding area. But that's only my two cents.

The people outside the main building could also have been soldiers reporting for duty, mixed with panicking people. Or they could have been trying to raid the guard after the bombs had fallen. Since the guard is farther from the glowing sea than sanctuary... Also I have to agree with some others that a few people clinging to one side would not be enough to tip the vertabird.
Stop using reason and logic. Be creative and have fun with it. It was the Chinese infiltrators rushing the base. They thought the Chinese army was going to be arriving soon to take over America.
at like 7:30 i think that guard may have shot himself and then overtime someone else just picked up the gun. Its been 200 years and his presence implys other people could have survived. And as you say the location has been looted.

Side note, I enjoy X6-88's commentary in your videos. He has become one of my most favorite companions. I used to hugely adore both Deacon's witty weirdness and Piper's tolerance for my chem and hoarding habits, but at max affinity they keep repeating the same annoying dialogue and I got really tired of it. Now I prefer X6-88 and Curie and Cait. I play on PS4 so because of the Cait bug I can't get her to max affinity, which I'm not sure is a good or bad thing. Does she have annoying repeating max affinity dialogue? I guess I'll never know.

The crippled recruitment officer might not have been deployed overseas at all though. During the last months of the war there was severe civil unrest and rioting, enough so that power armor was deployed to keep the populace in line. (Which also explains why the guards likely gunned down the panicked civilians outside too) It would not surprise me if makeshift bombs were used against the soldiers, considering how far the unrest had gone.
This also backs the theory that the soldiers deemed they needed to defend the facility with deadly force. They didn't know if it was an attack or not.
Has there been any reference in fallout to bombings and/or suicide-bombings against military targets in america? Because that wouldn't surprise me.
