Update: Apparently I missed the 3 large square tanks in the room. I didn't recognize them as tanks because there is no shattered glass--only the supports remain. But it makes sense that they would keep the crabs and lobsters in here, and that they mutated and broke free. What this doesn't explain is why X6-88 would wonder why the tanks were shattered. I doubt the doctor would shatter them for any reason, so I think it is clear that they broke free (and maybe ate Casey). There is still the issue of the hydraulic press, though. In light of the tanks, maybe it is not a press, and was an oxygenation device for the tanks. One thing I forgot to mention: There is a large tank on top of the lab. Pipes lead out from it far into the ocean. I followed the orange pipe. It is lit with still working lights. It goes down, following the sea floor, until it splits. Left takes you to an invisible wall where it ends. Right takes you towards a larger orange pipe. The two meet at a huge structure underwater where the lights end. I saw no hatch or any way to interact with it in any way. I think this may be part of a larger piece of cut content. Also, the tank on the press was horizontal in this video, but when I visited this lab with two other characters, it was upright, which I think makes it clear that this was a press crushing fuel or oxygen canisters, for some reason.
Personally I just find it incredible that I have played 300+ hours of fallout 4 and yet I still haven't even begun to discover the amount of story and detail packed into this incredible game. Truly one of my favorite games of all time.

With the abundance of nuclear material (ranging from the majority of the cars to numerous various appliances and machines), it'd be naive to assume that all the nuclear waste materials were handled responsibly; so perhaps relatively small areas of pre-war America were already subject to enough radiation to create a new breed of 'dangerous exotic game' that would have been attractive to trophy hunters.

Fusion causes much less, to the point that a stray gamma particle isn't a problem like with fission. (granted in a fusion reaction, at some point the shell would have to be replaced because even with magnetic containment the plasma would eventually cause a weaking of the shell).
What I find interesting are Mirelurks in general is the difference between them in 3 and 4. In 3, they are a lot more human looking, you are on a quest to observe them by Moira because she thinks they are intelligent. When I was under Oasis I cam across at least 3 mirelurk kings, they looked like fish men more than anything. So my question is, did the mirelurks of Boston mutate differently than the ones in the Capital Wasteland? Or did they just change the design between games for better looks? It is possible, with these experiments and with the nuclear waste Mass Fusion was spilling out they did mutate in a different manor than in DC. Just a thought.

If you taken other companion comments into account, especially Macready's about something breaking in or out, its obvious they mean the crab tanks/aquariums. I think the device is not a press, but rather meant to pressurize air into the canisters for use in diving.
Right when you say "What tanks?" 9:40 the white beam in front of you and everything left of it was one big tank, then across from you, next to the hydraulic press is a smaller tank. That's why they have dirt and seaweed in them. Both of them are simply missing ALL glass.
The "tanks" X6 refers to is the large square fish tanks (the cubes made of steel supports) that held the crabs and lobsters, perhaps Casey smashed and set the mirelurks free after the bombs dropped and ran.
I remember being attacked by 'lurks in the room with the tanks after I read the terminal. I could be misremembering it, but I'd assumed X6 thought a looter had smashed the tanks, and then it's revealed that no one smashed the tanks to get in, the 'lurks smashed them to get OUT. It's probably the fish tanks but it's also the case that the yellow device is an oxygen compressor for refilling Oxygen tanks which is a flammable gas. As Oxhorn is only human hes bound to get caught up in his own ideas
The "Tanks" he was referring to are the big white boxes. Those are Aquariums for the fish they were studying. The glass was smashed because the radiation caused the animals inside to mutate into early Mirelurks who broke out and nested in that area.
There was a large metal frame next to the mechanical arm you were looking at that had a large amount of dirt on the base and looks like large aquarium tanks. I believe that to be what your companion was referencing.
I think the tanks x6-88 was refering to were the giant fish tanks that you were walking through. The steel frames are still standing and I'm sure all of the water on the floor was from those tanks. The notes said that they had a bunch of controled specimens to compare with the ocean life that they caught. Perhaps after trying to bring their findings to the press one of the companies sent someone to make the good doctor disappear and destroy all of the specimens they had. There was no body because the company probably knew he was going to be alone while the rest of the staff were at the event and thats when they probably made their move. That's just my 2 cents though. Some companions comments on the tanks, too. Preston and MacCready (If I remember well) wonder if something wanted to go out or in, so the companions reaction must not be about what you think.
I have a theory that explains a lot of the small details in the area but its a little out there. Alright, so I believe the reason why Casey's body isn't in the lab because he was forcibly taken by one of the companies. The company saw that the scientist knew they where dumping toxic waste into the water and didn't want this getting out to the public. They could have smashed the tanks that held the crabs since they were evidence of what they where doing. If Casey was taken this also explains why the robots weren't turned off as well. The only way to confirm this theory is to console search a body with Casey's name and see where the body is located. Also there are 2 cars outside of the building when Casey was suppose to be the only one at the lab. Who owned the second car?

My thery . The tanks are the aquarium fish tanks, and the press is used to refill the high pressure gas tanks (it resembles the old ones). The fish tanks were smashed inwards by pointing a gas tank at them and nocking the nozzle off. Reason - the guy wanted to release normal crabs (the test batch) after the bombs dropped so they didn't starve.
Stories like these are really interesting and scary, as while they seem outlandish and crazy, like they could never happen in real life, but problems like in Fallout 4 are real problems in real life and if we aren’t careful about our oceans we’ll end up like the Fallout universe.

When X6-88 said "why smash the tanks" he was referring to the 2 large fish tanks (The white frame like structures.) at the bottom of the of the research facility. I believe that while the majority of the staff was away, that one of the companies mentioned had snicked in & smashed the tanks before the bombs dropped.

Something I wondered is whether a mutant crab had broken a tank and the Prof was testing the force needed to break a tank? Mirelurks could perhaps break an oxygen tank but the pre-war crabs? Another possibility - the Prof became a ghoul and continued to work until the crabs were Mirelurks? In this case, perhaps his experiments were the start of the Mirelurks through accelerated and directed mutation? Another option - the hydraulic machinery seems to arranged in such a way as to possibly damage the yellow cylinder (as it is pointed toward it). Are we sure the bottom of the yellow contraption was a press and not a delivery system. Either way, the hydraulic arm seems not directly connected.
At time 16:26, note the framework next to the railing, and the square one next the stairs. Those are the tanks. Notice the dirt and dead plants in the dirt. The yellow hydraulic crane you mentioned it to take one specimen from the main tank to smaller testing tank next to the stairs. There also aquarium tanks seen on both floors. Both walls on the first floor 2:22, on the 2nd floor 4:13 on the right. Glass are gone.

He was talking about the control tanks, those structures to the left and the one to the right of the yellow press were water tanks and all of the glass is blown out, you can see the grates on the top where they would walk on top, the structures to the left have a pipe in the wall, most likely to drain the tanks out or bring in outside water
Oxhorn, I think what they were doing was if they went diving and these crabs and things were mutating, they wouldn't want them to cut open their canisters and kill the divers. So, they tested the amount of pressure that the can, can take before if blows/opens. The punchers could be dangerous

Your character walked into the tanks a few times. Those metal beams were the frame for some sort of holding tanks for the various creatures they were studying. The glass was broken or smashed at some point.

Once the bombs dropped, these crabs and lobsters broke the cages and escaped the lab, becoming the ancestors of all the mirelurks you see in the game
What if that Mr. Handy you heard at the start of the dungeon was a ghost in the shell? What if Dr. Read possessed robot after their death; there'd be no reason to not shut it down before they left, right? It makes sense in the Fallout universe, plenty of similar events have occurred, but especially in Nuka World.
There appears to be LARGE fish tanks in that room, but the glass is gone. You walked though it a few times. I think that was the tank that was smashed. Look at the placement of the pillars in the room, it appears some of them probably at one time had glass. It would explain the terrarium like environment in that section of the room.
I visited this place once irl. Its pretty cool, part of a national park built on a bunker using soil from the big dig (the massive construction project that put Boston's subways and highways underground)
That Society is extremely well-stocked on ammunition. I know, they were planning "radical measures" and all, but I feel there was something even more extreme than a harbor blockade in the plans.
With x6-88's comment on smashing the tanks, if you look you notice large metal frames in the shapes of cubes and cuboids but with the faces of these frames being empty. I think these frames held glass in them and they were actually giant fish tanks for the specimens and he's confused as to why they would destroy the fish tanks of their specimens
The smashed tanks are the two aquarium tanks, the small one that looks now like a random steel frame and the the large tank split in two under the catwalk; without the glass this too looks like a random steel frame. These steel frames have sediment at the bottom and I suspect that this was contained by the glass to provide the simulated environment of the sea floor for the lobsters and crabs. The yellow machine I think is for refilling the red tanks. The chisel portion I think is meant to fit into the slot in the side of the red tanks and position them under the press. I think the hydraulic press is meant to press down on the head of the tanks depressing a valve and injecting whatever gas is meant to be in them. When the press lifts back up the valve closes and the chisel arm presents a refilled tank.
You are looking at the wrong "tanks" I'm fairly certain X86 was talking about the specimen tanks. There's two in the lab that have had their walls broken out, one small one to the right of the machine with the robotic arm and a much larger one to the right that sits in the corner with the walkway over it. You can see where the tanks stood because of their I-beam construction.

Before you get off the half-sunken boat after retreiving Casey's key from the red toolbox, look SW toward The Prydwen. About 50 feet away there's a busted picket fence on a tiny hump of dry land. Hop over there and yoink the bottle sticking out of the sand bar. It will display a message, "X marks the spot". It's a deep-dive treasure hunt in super-murky water way out in the gulf east of Nordhagen Beach, so if you don't have Aqua Girl/Boy perk or some kind of water-breathing gear, just swim down quickly, snag your end-of-dungeon chest and get back up fast or you'll drown. (Remember to select the Miscellaneous quest in your PipBoy or the marker won't show up.)
What you walked in at 15:02 and on the right next to the gas canisters at 15:26 are like big fish tanks that's why there was drops or rails above them for when fed the fish and such
The oxygen tanks are what power the remote-controlled arm attached to the machine. It isn't a hydraulic press if you look at the frames from 14:17 to 14:19. I think it's more a feeding arm to deposit food for their oceanic samples.
Nice video, as are all of your other videos, I love watching them, makes me wish I could buy the game even more xD A few comments though: 1) While it is indeed most likely that the mirelurks of fallout 4 came from some species of crab, probably the Atlantic Fiddler Crab, this doesn't provide the origin species of all mirelurks, just the ones of fallout 4, for in Fallout 3 and New Vegas, when looking at the model of the mirelurk, it is quite obvious that they are descendant from the horseshoe crab. What this does add however, is the possibility that mirelurks are different from region to region, depending on which species of crab was most abundant; which makes me worried if Bethesda, or Obsidian, were to ever make a Fallout based in Alaska, because then those mirelurks would be descendant from the Alaskan King Crab :S 2) That Machete was probably used to cut up the fish that they fed to the crustaceans that they had in containment 3) There's evidence that Mirelurk Kings of the previous games were descendants of Snapping Turtles, which still makes sense for New York being that Snapping Turtles reside there as well.

IRL people dumped raw sewage,etc into Boston harbor for centuries . It was soo bad in the 1980s they had to clean it up quickly. The Deer island water treatment plant accomplished that in 1988. Imagine how bad the harbor was in the fallout Universe....

I think that x6 meant the fish tanks as the glass looks smashed with water now covering the floor. For the reason why is possibly when the public saw that lobster/ crab growth had increased and thought that was good Casey might of gave up, seeing that his dream had been shattered and smashed the tanks.
I've seen such mechanical or pneumatic presses employed to help carry out compression tests on concrete core samples, shear, tear, bend or twist tests on cables and beams. sometimes to test induvidual welds on plates or sheet... not always metallic but can be used on almost any material. usually in conjunction a pressure guage attached with a readout. building and mechanical engineers would be familiar with this.

The tanks where the big frames down in the lab... you literally walk through them since there is no longer glass walls in your way. Note how the floor is covered in dirt coming out from these frames, and how none of the lab equipment is inside them.

Towards the red tank in the press. You have to inspect any compressed gas tank from time to time. If the tank fails the test, most times they will put a hole in the tank so it can not be used. I hope that helps clear that part up. Have a Great one!!
I think the tank question refers to an actual fish tank, and not oxygen tanks. I do not believe that those tanks hold oxygen, because by law, all oxygen tanks and tubing containing oxygen must be colored green. The same goes for many other gases, but I'm not familiar with red. There was a large square metal frame that may once have been a large fish tank containing the evolving Mirelurk. Once it got strong enough, it could easily break the tank and attack the said researcher. It's been known that crabs are opertunistic scavengers and hunters. they have also been known to eat bones for calcium, the same way squirrels chew on shed antlers to wear teeth and for a calcium source. Just adding onto the story. Please let me know what you think, Oxhorn.
He meant the giant tanks in the room with the white frames and dirt in them were they may have been storing some on the sea creatures. They may have been smashed by the creatures and thats why there is a mirilurk in the room.
Tanks - I think you missed the obvious, aquarium tanks, not pressurised cannister tanks. Look at the yellow machinery/hydraulic press from a distance. To the right of it is a large cube made of metal girders - I think this was a scratch built aquarium tank used for storing recent acquisitions and I saw what could be another to the left of the machinery - the whole left hand side under the walkway seems partitioned off (though not ideal to use bare concrete walls with pipes running through it, if they were private citizens doing this it makes sense they'd cobble things together as best they could) for control samples. One of the recent samples continued to mutate, smashed out of the tank (hence the low level flooding) and then did the same to other tank.

i guess physics doesn't work in the fallout universe like it does in ours. The Fusion process does NOT make radioactive waste like fission does.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Mass Fusion used Fission for a lot of their reactions but claimed it was Fusion for marketing buzz.

If you taken other companion comments into account, especially Macready's about something breaking in or out, its obvious they mean the crab tanks/aquariums. I think the device is not a press, but rather meant to pressurize air into the canisters for use in diving.
Right when you say "What tanks?" 9:40 the white beam in front of you and everything left of it was one big tank, then across from you, next to the hydraulic press is a smaller tank. That's why they have dirt and seaweed in them. Both of them are simply missing ALL glass.
When a companion talks about tanks in the basement he is talking about the cube steel structures. They are supposed to be destroyed fish tanks.

The "tanks" X6 refers to is the large square fish tanks (the cubes made of steel supports) that held the crabs and lobsters, perhaps Casey smashed and set the mirelurks free after the bombs dropped and ran.

I remember being attacked by 'lurks in the room with the tanks after I read the terminal. I could be misremembering it, but I'd assumed X6 thought a looter had smashed the tanks, and then it's revealed that no one smashed the tanks to get in, the 'lurks smashed them to get OUT. Idk, I swear I remembered fighting them in there.
"why smash the tanks?" could also refer to the 2 giant fish tanks in that room, the two places with muddy earth on the floor and marked off by the steel beams at the corners. maybe they smashed the tanks or maybe mirelurks mutated in them over time and smashed their way out.
This seems likely since the bomb would give up a lot of radiation for the lobsters and crabs to soak up after the apocalypse.
It's probably the fish tanks but it's also the case that the yellow device is an oxygen compressor for refilling Oxygen tanks which is a flammable gas. As Oxhorn is only human hes bound to get caught up in his own ideas

The "Tanks" he was referring to are the big white boxes. Those are Aquariums for the fish they were studying. The glass was smashed because the radiation caused the animals inside to mutate into early Mirelurks who broke out and nested in that area.
There was a large metal frame next to the mechanical arm you were looking at that had a large amount of dirt on the base and looks like large aquarium tanks. I believe that to be what your companion was referencing.
I think the tanks x6-88 was refering to were the giant fish tanks that you were walking through. The steel frames are still standing and I'm sure all of the water on the floor was from those tanks. The notes said that they had a bunch of controled specimens to compare with the ocean life that they caught. Perhaps after trying to bring their findings to the press one of the companies sent someone to make the good doctor disappear and destroy all of the specimens they had. There was no body because the company probably knew he was going to be alone while the rest of the staff were at the event and thats when they probably made their move.

I have a theory that explains a lot of the small details in the area but its a little out there.
Alright, so I believe the reason why Casey's body isn't in the lab because he was forcibly taken by one of the companies. The company saw that the scientist knew they where dumping toxic waste into the water and didn't want this getting out to the public. They could have smashed the tanks that held the crabs since they were evidence of what they where doing. If Casey was taken this also explains why the robots weren't turned off as well. The only way to confirm this theory is to console search a body with Casey's name and see where the body is located.
Also there are 2 cars outside of the building when Casey was suppose to be the only one at the lab. Who owned the second car?

My thery . The tanks are the aquarium fish tanks, and the press is used to refill the high pressure gas tanks (it resembles the old ones). The fish tanks were smashed inwards by pointing a gas tank at them and nocking the nozzle off. Reason - the guy wanted to release normal crabs (the test batch) after the bombs dropped so they didn't starve.
Stories like these are really interesting and scary, as while they seem outlandish and crazy, like they could never happen in real life, but problems like in Fallout 4 are real problems in real life and if we aren’t careful about our oceans we’ll end up like the Fallout universe.

I'm not sure. it could have been where the mirelurks broke the tanks two centuries ago... but it may be the oxygen/gas tanks. id say he's testing how much pressure and X6-88 thought he was attempting to destroy them... but that's one mans humble oppinion! XD
When X6-88 said "why smash the tanks" he was referring to the 2 large fish tanks (The white frame like structures.) at the bottom of the of the research facility. I believe that while the majority of the staff was away, that one of the companies mentioned had snicked in & smashed the tanks before the bombs dropped.

Something I wondered is whether a mutant crab had broken a tank and the Prof was testing the force needed to break a tank? Mirelurks could perhaps break an oxygen tank but the pre-war crabs?
Another possibility - the Prof became a ghoul and continued to work until the crabs were Mirelurks? In this case, perhaps his experiments were the start of the Mirelurks through accelerated and directed mutation?
Another option - the hydraulic machinery seems to arranged in such a way as to possibly damage the yellow cylinder (as it is pointed toward it). Are we sure the bottom of the yellow contraption was a press and not a delivery system. Either way, the hydraulic arm seems not directly connected.

At time 16:26, note the framework next to the railing, and the square one next the stairs. Those are the tanks. Notice the dirt and dead plants in the dirt. The yellow hydraulic crane you mentioned it to take one specimen from the main tank to smaller testing tank next to the stairs. There also aquarium tanks seen on both floors. Both walls on the first floor 2:22, on the 2nd floor 4:13 on the right. Glass are gone.
This is where i farmed the eggs for Mirelurk Omelette. Didn't wanted to use my Quantums to get the freefall legs.

He was talking about the control tanks, those structures to the left and the one to the right of the yellow press were water tanks and all of the glass is blown out, you can see the grates on the top where they would walk on top, the structures to the left have a pipe in the wall, most likely to drain the tanks out or bring in outside water

Oxhorn, I think what they were doing was if they went diving and these crabs and things were mutating, they wouldn't want them to cut open their canisters and kill the divers. So, they tested the amount of pressure that the can, can take before if blows/opens. The punchers could be dangerous

well actually there does seem to be the remains of large water tanks that are missing the glass needed to hold in the water. maybe he was referring to the large aquarium like tanks
Your character walked into the tanks a few times. Those metal beams were the frame for some sort of holding tanks for the various creatures they were studying. The glass was broken or smashed at some point.
My theory on X6-88's statement is as follows: I think he was talking about the large smashed glass tank in the lab that was used to hold the crabs and lobster pre-war. Once the bombs dropped, these crabs and lobsters broke the cages and escaped the lab, becoming the ancestors of all the mirelurks you see in the game
What if that Mr. Handy you heard at the start of the dungeon was a ghost in the shell? What if Dr. Read possessed robot after their death; there'd be no reason to not shut it down before they left, right? It makes sense in the Fallout universe, plenty of similar events have occurred, but especially in Nuka World.

There appears to be LARGE fish tanks in that room, but the glass is gone. You walked though it a few times. I think that was the tank that was smashed. Look at the placement of the pillars in the room, it appears some of them probably at one time had glass. It would explain the terrarium like environment in that section of the room.
I visited this place once irl. Its pretty cool, part of a national park built on a bunker using soil from the big dig (the massive construction project that put Boston's subways and highways underground)
That Society is extremely well-stocked on ammunition. I know, they were planning "radical measures" and all, but I feel there was something even more extreme than a harbor blockade in the plans.

Red tanks usually indicate acetylene gas. That is why they exploded when you shot them.

With x6-88's comment on smashing the tanks, if you look you notice large metal frames in the shapes of cubes and cuboids but with the faces of these frames being empty. I think these frames held glass in them and they were actually giant fish tanks for the specimens and he's confused as to why they would destroy the fish tanks of their specimens
The smashed tanks are the two aquarium tanks, the small one that looks now like a random steel frame and the the large tank split in two under the catwalk; without the glass this too looks like a random steel frame. These steel frames have sediment at the bottom and I suspect that this was contained by the glass to provide the simulated environment of the sea floor for the lobsters and crabs. The yellow machine I think is for refilling the red tanks. The chisel portion I think is meant to fit into the slot in the side of the red tanks and position them under the press. I think the hydraulic press is meant to press down on the head of the tanks depressing a valve and injecting whatever gas is meant to be in them. When the press lifts back up the valve closes and the chisel arm presents a refilled tank.
You are looking at the wrong "tanks" I'm fairly certain X86 was talking about the specimen tanks. There's two in the lab that have had their walls broken out, one small one to the right of the machine with the robotic arm and a much larger one to the right that sits in the corner with the walkway over it. You can see where the tanks stood because of their I-beam construction.

I like your stuff, Ox, though something you said grabbed my attention more than most. Around 16:15 you were talking about how the Society would buy their robots from a corporation they hated, Robco. I just can't help but point out that Mr. Handy's are General Atomics International robots.
Those weird grey girders that are standing up are the tanks they were keeping the crabs and lobsters in.
I used to farm for those eggs back early on when I needed that food item for breathing underwater... I've since hit lvl 160 and have aqua boy, and now i just cook food items to trade for shipment orders for mats...

Before you get off the half-sunken boat after retreiving Casey's key from the red toolbox, look SW toward The Prydwen. About 50 feet away there's a busted picket fence on a tiny hump of dry land. Hop over there and yoink the bottle sticking out of the sand bar. It will display a message, "X marks the spot". It's a deep-dive treasure hunt in super-murky water way out in the gulf east of Nordhagen Beach, so if you don't have Aqua Girl/Boy perk or some kind of water-breathing gear, just swim down quickly, snag your end-of-dungeon chest and get back up fast or you'll drown. (Remember to select the Miscellaneous quest in your PipBoy or the marker won't show up.)
What you walked in at 15:02 and on the right next to the gas canisters at 15:26 are like big fish tanks that's why there was drops or rails above them for when fed the fish and such
The oxygen tanks are what power the remote-controlled arm attached to the machine.
It isn't a hydraulic press if you look at the frames from 14:17 to 14:19.
I think it's more a feeding arm to deposit food for their oceanic samples.
Nice video, as are all of your other videos, I love watching them, makes me wish I could buy the game even more xD
A few comments though:
1) While it is indeed most likely that the mirelurks of fallout 4 came from some species of crab, probably the Atlantic Fiddler Crab, this doesn't provide the origin species of all mirelurks, just the ones of fallout 4, for in Fallout 3 and New Vegas, when looking at the model of the mirelurk, it is quite obvious that they are descendant from the horseshoe crab. What this does add however, is the possibility that mirelurks are different from region to region, depending on which species of crab was most abundant; which makes me worried if Bethesda, or Obsidian, were to ever make a Fallout based in Alaska, because then those mirelurks would be descendant from the Alaskan King Crab :S
2) That Machete was probably used to cut up the fish that they fed to the crustaceans that they had in containment
3) There's evidence that Mirelurk Kings of the previous games were descendants of Snapping Turtles, which still makes sense for New York being that Snapping Turtles reside there as well.

IRL people dumped raw sewage,etc into Boston harbor for centuries . It was soo bad in the 1980s they had to clean it up quickly. The Deer island water treatment plant accomplished that in 1988. Imagine how bad the harbor was in the fallout Universe....
Perhaps the tanks X6-88 was referring to were the tanks that the lobsters and crabs were kept in and Dr. Casey smashed them when the bombs fell so they could escape. This also explains why his body is missing because it means he survived the blast.
I think that x6 meant the fish tanks as the glass looks smashed with water now covering the floor.
For the reason why is possibly when the public saw that lobster/ crab growth had increased and thought that was good Casey might of gave up, seeing that his dream had been shattered and smashed the tanks.
I've seen such mechanical or pneumatic presses employed to help carry out compression tests on concrete core samples, shear, tear, bend or twist tests on cables and beams. sometimes to test induvidual welds on plates or sheet... not always metallic but can be used on almost any material. usually in conjunction a pressure guage attached with a readout. building and mechanical engineers would be familiar with this.

According to fallout 3, most mirelurks were the mutant descendants of horseshoe crabs, but the variety in fallout 4 would make sense if other crustaceans were mutated as well

The tanks where the big frames down in the lab... you literally walk through them since there is no longer glass walls in your way. Note how the floor is covered in dirt coming out from these frames, and how none of the lab equipment is inside them.

Towards the red tank in the press. You have to inspect any compressed gas tank from time to time. If the tank fails the test, most times they will put a hole in the tank so it can not be used. I hope that helps clear that part up. Have a Great one!!
I think the tank question refers to an actual fish tank, and not oxygen tanks. I do not believe that those tanks hold oxygen, because by law, all oxygen tanks and tubing containing oxygen must be colored green. The same goes for many other gases, but I'm not familiar with red.
There was a large square metal frame that may once have been a large fish tank containing the evolving Mirelurk. Once it got strong enough, it could easily break the tank and attack the said researcher. It's been known that crabs are opertunistic scavengers and hunters. they have also been known to eat bones for calcium, the same way squirrels chew on shed antlers to wear teeth and for a calcium source.

He meant the giant tanks in the room with the white frames and dirt in them were they may have been storing some on the sea creatures. They may have been smashed by the creatures and thats why there is a mirilurk in the room.
The 'tanks' are the spots between those iron supports. they were test tanks for holding specimens.
Tanks - I think you missed the obvious, aquarium tanks, not pressurised cannister tanks. Look at the yellow machinery/hydraulic press from a distance. To the right of it is a large cube made of metal girders - I think this was a scratch built aquarium tank used for storing recent acquisitions and I saw what could be another to the left of the machinery - the whole left hand side under the walkway seems partitioned off (though not ideal to use bare concrete walls with pipes running through it, if they were private citizens doing this it makes sense they'd cobble things together as best they could) for control samples. One of the recent samples continued to mutate, smashed out of the tank (hence the low level flooding) and then did the same to other tank.
notice the I-beems around you in the lab. there is dirt floor and they look like frames for giant glass tanks. there are two broken huge glass tanks in the lab.
