WOOOW ! I'VE LOOKED FOR THIS EXPLANATION FOR 2 DAYS STRAIGHT ! Thank you so much.
Glad you found it helpful!
Thank you so much! Purchased a GoPro Hero 9 a few days ago and have been struggling with uploading footage to my 2015 macbook. You're tips resolved my problem.
Great to hear!
Thank you so much, you have just saved me from deleting hours of what I thought was no good footage. You've been a huge help!
Glad I could help!
Same here :D
I also have a lot of footage. But, what should I do now? Should I download handbrake software?
That might be the easiest to try first
I suggest you look at drift cameras they don't have any of the problems or splitting of videos or leaking doors are hard to get in and out SD cards
I definitely needed this information...THANK YOU!!! I got the Hero9 recently and haven't been able to use it for any of my channel footage because of this issue.
You're welcome!! Glad I could help someone else out - I was super bummed when I opened up my first videos - not ideal but glad there is a work around!
this is indeed the most helpful video I've ever found on youtube! cheers mate!
Glad it helped!
A GoPro Angel sent from the Tech Heavens. Thank you for saving me so much time! Using handbrake now!
🙌
this was so helpful - exactly what i needed, thank you!
I recorded 4k 60fps and then I tried to edit it on premiere pro on my computer and all the footage was lagging. I thought it was the computer not being able to handle premiere pro. Then I tried in a recent mac and everything was lagging too. I searched for it and found this video! Thank you! I will give it a go.
Hope it helps!
Thank you! Tested my new Hero 9 Black and these settings also work for me. 5K 30fps, 1080 30fps and 1080 24fps.
👍🏻
THANK YOU!! Easy to follow and you solved my problems, THE BEST=)
I'm currently working on a GOOSE HUNT VIDEO as we speak
and you just saved me hours of headache my friend!
THANKYOU, THANKYOU!
Glad to hear it! Hope the video turns out well!
We are getting a GoPro Hero 9 for Christmas- thanks for sharing this! Chasing RV Sunshine- Joel, Deb & Maya
Awesome! They're such cool cameras with lots of possibilities!
you are a life saver!!!! almost thought my SD card was corrupted
Glad it helped!
Thank you so much for this! Yesterday I went to the beautiful Savo Island, and when I went through the footage, it was all laggy. Now it's all fixed. THANK YOU!
You're very welcome!
How did you fix the footage?
@@shwetamukund I followed this video exactly!
Thanks for the info! It helped me out a ton! 😎🤟
You’re welcome!
Damn. Exactly what I was looking for. I now have a list of what format and fps I can shoot with using my mod and original lens. I have a Macbook Air 2017 and was on my way to purchase a new one with the M1 processor. This saved me for a another year or so
Sucks though doesn't it - thought I was going to be able to use some awesome 4k footage -- well I can capture it, just can't edit it...
Does the 2020 MacBook Pro with the M1 chip support the file? Otherwise I’m afraid I’m going to have to break the bank🙃
Thank you for the help! Was very upset to see my footage play back that way. Almost took my camera back.
Definitely frustrating - wish we could choose which codec it records as on each setting.
Great advice. Thanks for the video 👍👍
Glad it was helpful!
Bullseye information! I had to screenshot the 4 settings not in HEVC. Just got my Hero 9 yesterday. Great stuff !
You can also look into using proxy files if you video editing software supports it.
Well explained! Thanks for the advice
Glad it was helpful!
bro you helped me out so much i was so exited to get my go pro and upload to youtube but it was choppy so i quit but now it not choppy anymore thx to you bro!
Awesome! Glad I could help
definitely needed to know this. thanks man !
No problem!
I love the honesty.
Hope its helpful!
Thanks for the help, champion man.
Glad it helped!
This helped me BIG TIME! Thanks!
You're welcome!
Very helpful video !! Thank you sooo much
You're so welcome!
Thank god for You and UA-cam! Thank you!
Welcome!
Very helpful video, my go pro videos kept buffering when playing them from my nas to pc, I can play them smooth now after converting them, thank you!!
You're welcome!
Thanks man! This is Kees from the Netherlands. I am travelling with my new GoPro 9 and old MacBook Pro. Most footage looks awful. I was very disappointed must say. Now there is hope on the horizon. When I get back I will try on my newer iMac. If that doesn't work I will use Handbrake. I used Handbrake before for other projects. God Bless
Happy travels!
thanks so so much , i freaked out today , this video saved my life dude
Sorry to hear that - but glad this work around might help you out!
Hello Thanks for all this info great video ! What I did was download the mp4s from the Gopro app to my iPhone then airdrop to Macbook then used for editing. It did take time but worth it !
Glad you got it sorted!
Thank you for your research and time posting this! You just saved me from a huge headache!
Glad it helped!
THANK YOU! It may be a slow solution, but I'll be able to use the footage of my son that otherwise appeared to be unusable..
Agreed - fixing it after the fact is a major bummer. Hopefully now you can choose a different format and avoid it in the future.
excellent video. fixed my problem. thanks for the share!
You're welcome!
Thankyou brother.. very informative ❤
Welcome!
This is great info. thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Really helpful, thanks.
You're welcome!
thank for the info !! helped a lot !
Glad it helped!
Thanls a lot bro. I needed this solution.
Absolutely, glad it was helpful.
thank you so much i didn't know it was my computer lol i was going through so many settings and SD cards wondering what i was doing wrong.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for that Great to hear it can be rectified
It’s unfortunate that you can’t use either codec for any setting, but I guess technology has to change at some point and time!
It got me to sort my choppy footage this. However in the camera preferences menu on my hero10 you have the option of switching between HEVC and HEVC+H264
I set mine to H264 4K 30fps. It works fine now.
Be much better if they (GoPro) told you all this 😂
I’m going to try 5.3K now using the setting above. I’ll report back if it’s choppy/lagging or not. This video definitely sent me in the right direction. 👍 cheers
Quick update. NO it can’t handle 5.3k Back to 4K then until I can afford a new MacBook 😂
Good to know Andy - thanks for reporting back! 4k should be plenty good enough for most anyone right now anyways
@@GanderFlight yeah definitely. My new video worked well after changing the settings 👌
Thank you!! ♥♥♥
You're welcome hope its helpful!
Ima try this thank you 🐐
Hope it helps!
Thanks for the tip.
Hope its helpful.
great advice thanks
You're welcome!
thank you.your the best!

Thank you Bro! 👍🥰
Welcome 👍
Very useful tnx✌️♥️
👍🏻
Thank you!!!
Hope it helped!
thanks, that did the trick!
Awesome!
Thankyou so much
Most welcome 😊
Thanks men 👍🏻
No problem 👍
Thanks for this. Can't wait to try it out. It was frustrating to see my 5K footage stuttering more than a husband busted cheating by his wife! I'll check back here when I've sorted my settings and see how the footage turns out. 😂
Glad I could pass along the information!
Did it work ?
Thank you so much
You're most welcome
tysm man!
Youre welcome!
I think you just highlighted the problem with my new Hero 9. Video and sound stutter badly and is unusable for my 4 yr old laptop direct viewing from SD card. After having the first camera replaced after spending hours, no, days and weeks trying to sort this out then the replacement did the same, I thought 'hang on' then watched your video, bingo!
Shame Gopro couldn't advise or even know about this!
However, I can't find the "resolution setting" you quote, what am I doing?
Anyway, so many thanks for this valuable information.
You can access it either on the camera settings, or within the gopro app. On the camera its the long button at the bottom (should say standard/activity/cinematic etc tap that and you can click the pen icon and change them.
it helped!😇
Glad to hear it!
Thanks
You're welcome!
Thanks.
You’re welcome!
i have newest mac ever.. but my gopro sucks.. i was doing video from left to right.. and some 2-3 milliseconds are too fast and it goes normal again..
eventhough if i watch it in gopro.. same..
Interesting- which gopro model and what recording settings was that on?
Thank you. Thought I was sending camera back.
Glad it to share!
sir, question, how do I know if the file is formatted hevc or h264? it seems all files have .mp4 extensions. thank you!
If I right click on the file and click "get more info" or properties -- it should be listed next to the "codec" protion
My issue with mine is when it records it’s fine but when I play it back on my Mac it starts off normal but has a huge section that is slow motion. Very annoying.
Try recording on one of the other settings and see if it makes a playback difference with a different codec file. Could also do some research to see if your specific Mac is set up to handle HEVC codec files.
Hello, do you know why my gopro 9 is recording separate audio files alongside my audio/ video files? I would ike to find out how to stop this so I dont keep running out of space on my SD card. Thanks
Unfortunately I don't have any experience with that and therefore don't have any recommendations other than youtube or google the symptom
Thanks for video!
I have a very strong computer and I can process 4K/60 video from DJI Mini 2 without any problems and the video is absolutely fluid, but the same resolution from GoPro 9 (so 4K/60) is still laggy. I record manual, shutter speed 60, 4K/30, 5500K, ISO100 (maximum also 100), Flat color, medium sharpness.
Video compression has no effect, so the same thing happens no matter what compression I use ...
Can you please give me some advice to solve this problem?
Did you try the handbrake option on a test clip? Might not have anything to do with 1080 vs 4k on your computer but rather the codec used by each camera. Test it out and see
@@GanderFlight I tried, but it's still the same ...
I don't know if maybe my GoPro isn't working properly ... :(
@@VideoLife_FPV_Wild you’re above my knowledge set at this point - I’d reach out to GoPro customer service
@@GanderFlight If you have time, please do it, I will appreciate it!
Btw, new friend here!
@@GanderFlight I think I solved the problem; if I record 4K/60, then this problem does not occur. Settings are: 4K/60, shutter speed 120, high bitrate, medium sharpness, flat color.
I think that the ND64 filter would solve the problem that occurs if I record 4K/30 ...
I have a lot of footage. What should I do? Download the handbrake software?
That would be what I'd try first if I had a ton of footage to convert.
ok my question would be.. if i transfer my whole camera library to an external sd drive.. can it then be played on a different computer? like its not gonna corrupt those files correct? they'll just look choppy and laggy until they are viewed correctly?
Theoretically yes - its just the viewer not being capable of reading the file
@@GanderFlight that was my biggest concern thank you.
I wasn't sure whether to upgrade my ram, cpu, and graphics, find a different editor, or just shoot in 2.7K.
I'm sure mine has a setting where u can tell it to record in 264 or Hv as priority
👍
What about if you are live streaming to twitch on the go and your live stream is choppy?
Livestreaming is a whole different monster and probably more to do with internet upload speeds and cables than the actual camera itself. Sorry, no advice to give on live streaming.
i'm using hero 9 but before it was good and its 4k footage was also good. but now the 4k footage is little bit blurry. any solution??
Was there an update installed or a setting changed? Sorry, I don't have any ideas on why something like that would change. Might try GoPro customer service.
So what’s the point to have like 4k60 and ex than only to be able to use up to 4k30fps
Hi man!
What if i record in 2.7K 60fps, BUT using max lens (so the image looks more like a square)? Is this consider as most compatible file?
Sorry I'm not understanding the question - can you give me more details?
@@GanderFlight Sorry for my english , i'm Italian 🍝.
You have told about High compatibile file, considerig I use to record my footage in 2.7 K (4:3 By using Max Lens Mod) at 59.94 fps, and i wanted to ask (by using this settings): Is this considered as High compatibility files or not!
Tnx for your reply, I appreciate It!
@@BreshaRIDER No worries! To be honest - I'm not sure if using the Max Lens Mod changes which file - my best suggestion is to record some test footage and see how it plays out on your equipment. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful - haven't played around with the max lens mod at all.
see the problem i have is i have HEVC codec extention on my laptop and it still doesnt work with any higher res than 4k/30fps i do not know why this is happening as id like to have 4k/60fps as its so much smoother than 30fps i dont use apple im on windows and i cant figure out why my laptop wont run HEVC files when its got the dam codec installed!!!! so frustrating.
That is absolutely frustrating! Reply back if you ever find a solution.
Hi pal,,I’m new to GoPro and I am getting this lagging problem,,I’ve just tried this copying from my GoPro to app then airdropped it to my my but it’s still doing doing it,,,not sure what to do as I’ve got a good amount of videos on my GoPro card that I need to edit but can’t work it out
Did you try the handbrake app method?
@@GanderFlight yea pal,,I tried the handbrake but it’s still got a tiny big of lag,,not as bad as it was in 4K but it’s still got a bit
I’m sorry, you’ve exceeded my current knowledge on the subject. I’d highly suggest jumping into a video editor group on facebook and asking for assistance there 😀
@@GanderFlight yea I’m lost as well mate,,,what’s confusing me is my dji drone videos are 4K and they play perfect on my Mac 🖥 but my 4K GoPro don’t,,just laggy
I am using a gopro hero 7 device, recently I've shot some video on 2.7k 60fps, the video freezes after some time but the audio continues to record. I cannot preview the file even on my gopro, I'm using a recommended sd card. Is there any way I can retrieve the footage?
Have you tried it on a different computer?
@@GanderFlight yeah, even tried several video repairing tools. Nothing works !
The important question here is... If I've already recorded some HEVC footage... will that lose quality after I do the conversion?
I'm sure you'll lose some quality after conversion - but if you can't play the footage what options do you have? Keep the HEVC footage and then do the conversions too - that way if you need the HEVC footage in the future you still have it.
@@GanderFlight yes bro, I guess I'll give it a shot with that and see how it goes 🤝
I have GoPro 10 and new MacBook Pro m3 max 40GPU and 48gb ram and over 100gb left on my Mac drive. I have air dropped footage from my phone and ive also drag and dropped the files and when I play them on the Mac or iMovie it plays normal then slows down and can't hear word that's being said. this is 2 files now and I don't think its a corrupt file if it plays on the quick app normal. please help me. im desperate. edit: could it be because its MP4 format?
Hmmm... not sure - I've not had ANY issues with my updated Hero10 footage and my new laptop is an m1 chip
@@GanderFlight i still havent figured out how to save it without the slowmo. im gonna have to screen record or something to get answer. its the only video that uploaded like it and it was done at 4k 120fps on gopro 10. all videos after update worked fine.
What if no macbook? Handbrake is the only key?
I'm not sure if its the only answer - but its readily available and usable.
My computer is fine but this is still happening, could it just be that my memory card has to slow of a read and write speed?
There are so many variables -- did you run it through the fix options and see if it makes any difference in the footage?
@@GanderFlight I know one thing, I had to run a bug fix to allow mine to pair to my phone and that is Gopro's own words. I also had to pay 99 cents plus tax for a "codec" that allowed me to playback 4k 60 on my pc, they also charged me a random 12 cents that wasn't even included in the bill... after all that it still has stutters on my pc idk why..
👍🏻
4k 30fps is what i want to use but for some season it comes out laggy also. It seems it has to be 1080p only
hmmm - not sure. Make any headway on it in the meantime>
I'm so pissed! I have a gopro 9 and I did record at 1080 p 60 fps and I still have choppy footage! And I purposely bought a computer that I believed was set up to handle 4k. I have 16 gb RAM, AMD Ryzen 5 1600 6 core processor, 3.20 ghz, 64 bit operating system. So frustrating I have no clue what I should do?
Unfortunately Brian - you're above my paygrade and my knowledge base - I'd suggest jumping into a creator group on facebook - seach "content creators" and pose the question there to be crowdsourced.
@@GanderFlight Thanks for the advice. I'll give that a shot.
Sir i have my yi 2k action camera it records a little bit lag vedio why
I do not know.
what do i put the but rate to?
Sorry, I'm not understanding your question...
A great end around, thanks. That said, why buy a 5K GoPro if you can't play back in 5K format? gotta get a new laptop, period, end of story, if you want it to be 5K.
Ignorance- I didn’t know my laptop wouldn’t be able to play the files.
I have a hp 15 4gb is that good for this also?
Sorry I don't know.
@@GanderFlight I’m good now I got appreciate it thou

Its now GoPro Quik
will it work oh GoPro hero 8?
I'm not sure - worth giving it a try!
I tried editing my GoPro video on da Vinci resolve and software kept lagging and crashing
does the GoPro video play smoothly when you play it outside of DaVinci?
Yes
Im Trying your method w the handbrake on videoproc and so far is going good 👍🙏🏼
Ay please help me I have the same problem on my phone
I'm not sure how you would correct it on a phone.
Man I'm so upset I just want to use it 😩 I don't know why things always go bad for me
This also works with androids and windows
👍
Name this app
Handbrake?
I have a hp laptop 14
👍
I guess Im returning all of this. I just wanted better audio and autofocus. I guess I wont be growing my channel anymore. In fact, I think Im shutting it all down. Im not about to spend thousands on recording and editing gear for something that wont make money.
If you want great autofocus and better audio I’d suggest using a cell phone camera with an eternal microphone. Inexpensive and great results.
Hope you can get out of this funk and find a way to make your equipment work FOR you.
OK so I've pretty much had somebody from GoPro give me the lamest excuse for why the camera splits video none of my drift cameras Sony cameras or Panasonic cameras do this thing I suggest looking at a drift camera it is a true action camera with a much smaller frontal area profile the SD cards are easier to get out the waterproof door never leaked on any of my six drift cameras besides I don't like getting comments from GoPro professionals telling me well what happens if you drop your camera and your cameras destroyed but your card is still in good shape but the files corrupted because you didn't give it the stop recording command by hitting the stop button well i've had many times when my drift cameras literally ran out of power in the middle of filming and I didn't lose a single second of my video these are lame excuses my GoPro for why they can't have it continually record I don't know if it's an overheating problem or what's going on I literally have five cameras sitting on my shelf and none of them split my videos they all use microSD cards they can record for three hours continuous one recording look into DRIFT CAMERAS there's nothing worse than filming 32 minutes of video and having to go to your computer because you have to stitch two minutes onto the end of your 30 minute video it's ridiculous and all they have is stupid excuses why it happens and they want to blame it on the card etc. etc. none of my other cameras I repeat none of my other cameras do this
Sounds like GoPro might not be for you
I almost return my camera back lol...
Hopefully this helped!
no longer works
Which part?
goPro splitting my videos in a tiny little pieces cheap thanks for all the extra work GoPro, my drift HD ghost cameras, perform every bit as well as the GoPro and I can film until the battery dies and it comes out as a single file so this excuse my GoPro that it's your chip or that that's just how the industry works as a bunch of BS I don't want to spend an hour stitching all of my GoPro videos back together. This should be a choice by the user if the cameras not reliable enough to take a continuous video so that the batch them to protect your video what good does it do if half your videos missing and you get the front in the end, yeah I know it sounds stupid because it is stupid. I recommend you do not buy a GoPro. There are cameras out there that will not batch your files for you. You'll get one continuous video and it will show up that way when you put your microSD card in your PC. I absolutely despise this about GoPro cameras, and it's not standard in the industry only certain cheap products do it with crappy software and go pro is at the top of that pile.
Glad you got that off your chest :) Sounds like the drift hd ghost cameras serve your needs well
@@GanderFlight please understand drift cameras do not look better than go pros cameras as fast as "video quality",, i tried to make it clear that it is the "shape" of the drift that works better for me because of the extreme speeds i need my camera to function at. Go Pro moved the record button because of a video i made when go pro first got started I was in contact with the developers of both GoPro and drift at the time both companies sent me cameras to test. The original GoPro cameras had the record button in the front of the camera so when I would get to speed of 200 miles an hour my camera would turn on hundreds of times a minute after an hour ride with my GoPro I would come home and have 999 separate little snippets of video because of the air pressure GoPro was always aerodynamic you can see it on some of my videos when I'm riding my bike the frontal area was very small and tapered so it was also very quiet I never felt it or heard it on my helmet the GoPro was just the opposite it was like having a sale up there and it didn't work good mounted to the side of my head because it tended to pull me to one side. I own two GoPro now and gave away my drift cameras so that should tell these people something I thought I mentioned that in the video my main concern was the door is a terrible design that's why amazon has the replacement doors on sale for cheap which actually worked better than the original and I use a popsicle stick to get the microSD card out because it's almost impossible to use my fingers but again it was mainly the shape of the drift camera that I needed. the action videos on my bike actually go back before action cameras where I had to use Sony disc cameras to do my recordings if you type in" 2011 hayabusa red line 2011 Hayabusa redline 6th gear 11,000 rpm You can see how shaky using those cameras were lol
I have to tell you my drift cameras are one continuous video they are not split into tiny pieces I have almost 3 hour videos that are a single recording on my drift ghost HD cameras that's my number two complaint besides aerodynamics. It just creates unnecessary work as far as I'm concerned and they could fix it but software is expensive
Does it actively write to the memory card as it records? So if you're 2.5 hours into recording and the camera falls and is destroyed by the memory card is ok - will that footage show up or will it be corrupt because it didn't finish the recording with the "stop recording" command from the user? @@GamersGettingPlayed
@@GanderFlight you're kidding me what do you think I'm a child or something the cameras is locked to my goddamn helmet if I fall off and break the camera at 200 miles an hour do you think I'm really gonna care about that telling me that I'm gonna lose incredibly valuable video every single time I'm using my GoPro is the lamest excuse anyone's ever come up with. if I was three years old then that's the kind of thing you worry about with three-year-olds but if you're an adult and you're constantly losing video from dropping your cameras maybe GoPro should look into a different design for holding your GoPro or something I don't know I'm really confused by ridiculous and childish answers like that for an excuse as to why GoPro cannot do with all of my other cameras can do which is not make me go to my computer and stitch videos together because my GoPro is so inadequate when it comes to storing on the card
