So today I wanted to share what a good use for LRV files on your gopro.
When you are editing your footage and dont have an editor with PROXY files, you can use these LRV files to edit with and it wont bog down your computer, and when you are done you can swap out your LRV for the high res MP4 files... great idea from MARTIN on instagram who sent me this info!

OMG, thank you so much for this. I just got my GoPro and have a decent spec computer, but was having a lot of issues with 4k editing. By far the most helpful video on the subject! I was frustrated when I first got the GoPro 11 because of the editing. I have a macbook 2016 which can handle 4k ok but this is very simple and straight forward! Thanks so much

I have a question. So so I followed the whole process of switching the LRV Files to .MP4 & after I did that the quality on the timeline looked the same. I then went to the original media folder from my library (on final cut pro) & I dragged and dropped the newly edited .mp4 files and then it seemed to work, however, my new video on FCP scaled HUGELY! what can I do to avoid this and not sure why it didn’t automatically read my files. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks again!

I am using a GoPro Hero 9 for videos and using Adobe Express for editing and creating UA-cam videos. Does this workaround work if I bring a .LRV file renamed .MP4 and brought into Adobe express and then editing it and exporting? Not sure this makes sense but I'm new to all this and trying to learn. Thanks
My gopro 12 only shows the high res file in the folder when I connect to PC, is there anything I need to do in the settings to get low res files in the camera folder alongside high res?

Hot tip: Download bulk rename utility and you can 'bulk' rename the GX/GL as well as the extensions from lrv/MP4...huuuuge timesaver!
ive tried live streaming on Go pro 12 on fb or youtube ..its lagging what to do ?

Thanks for the tip about the smaller file’s already existing. I just assumed it was some thumbnail file that only plays in camera. That’ll be so helpful to just pull it for quick clips I want to send to Twitter without caring about 4K quality. 🤣 (and save data over 4G uploads lol)
I notice you edit on a Mac. I have a new 16” M1 Pro MBP now but I was test editing on an iPad Pro (Lumafusion) just fine. So I shouldn’t bother with the proxy stuff huh?

Maybe I'm doing it wrong 🤔. Normally I trim the high resolution files down to workable lengths and export to import later for final cuts.🤷 I still use proxy settings and export approximately 5 mins worth at a time to piece together for the final version before upload. I do wish I could have faster upload speeds to UA-cam as these take hours to pass the first step before checks can happen.
I made my video followed Ur steps replaced the footage but it doesn't change the quality of the video.... the files don't update on the video editing program there already there I'm so annoyed with go pro what's the point
How do I fix the laggy video that is on my phone? I have a GoPro 11 and I have the quick app on my phone. When I downloaded my video and then try playing them….it’s very laggy….please help
Can't I use a 1080p version of the video?
On my Hero9, I get LRV files I can use for proxy files when I record 1080p/60fps and 4K/30fps, but not 4K/60fps. Do the hero10 and/or hero11 generate LRV files when recording 4K/60fps? This setting is when they would be most useful.

If I play video on quick app video is laggy but if I play the same video on media player, it works really smooth. It is quick app itself which can't support video file. Got HEVC so how come when I am watching on media player it works fine but quick app dog crap.

Most likely your last assumption about dog crap is more accurate, with the media player i think it plays it at a lower resolution that is compatible with your phone, but the quik app might not do that, which makes it more laggy.

I did this on my first video and it worked. The second time I did it it says media lost. Not sure what went wrong. I did save duplicates but hoping I don’t have to edit it all again lol
This is cool because proxys take AGES to create on my computer. And if the LRVs are already there.... why not just use them!

Whenever I go to the the gopro app the footage is lagging
Windows 10 is not allowing me to change the LRV 'Type' to MP4. It only lets me change the 'Name'.
If I'm not too late. go to the folder, go to File "Change folder and search options" "view Tab" untick "Hide extenstions for know file types"
Fishycomics has a fast way to rename those files. You can do them all at once
Lol...there is no reason to make 2 folders. For example Shotcut and Davinci resolve see lrv files as proxy by default. Just copy mpeg and lrv as they are in folder and turn on the proxy in your program.
Wow i didn't know this. This whole time i was deleting the LRV files and creating proxies in premiere pro instead. This is so useful wow thanks danny!
