  • Making a preset of a split break for the E5000 ultra. I bought the E5000 with no manual, you can download the EOS 4 manual, but I prefer to learn from video - so I will probably upload things I want to know as I find out how to do them......

    nice set of videos on the e5000 - good to see it making a come-back :)
    keep up the good work.

    cheers. yeh I like the sound from EMU stuff - and it makes a nice change instead of purchasing a soft-synth for similar price :)

    yeh thats what i meant. sampling in the emu gives it a sound without doing anything.

    @fezman01 Cheers, yeh I might do - I have made a reese noise already with a z-plane, it needs to be resampled though & used in another filter, the z-plane just adds a huge power to it - I'll prolly upload the wav for demonstration purposes.

    Hi ,
    I wanted to know if you can walk me threw how to map
    individual samples to separate keys on the E E6400 and be able to have a open
    hi hat cut off a closed hi hat or two long samples cut each other . Thanks in
    advance for any advice you can share .

    EMX is a fun machine as is the ESX with the SD cards on the reissue, Id love to get one of those, but I'm overgeared at the moment. The new Akai MPX8 sampler looks like a real cool simple sampler, less than $99, uses SD card up to 32 gig (that's alot of samples)

    It could be the best thing you could ever think of... but don't limit your self to only resampling the character of the emu. Do everything using Renoise as your DAW. so simple, but soooo complicated. It works incredibly well at the end of the day. enough said.

    Yes I have, all hardware does sound different, I agree, it's probably because the d/a converters. All models were different sounding. If you want software to sound "hardware-like" try using a bit reducer, reduce it to 10 or 12 bit, 8 bit if you're looking for digital dirt. It's not gonna sound like a particular sampler, but it sounds retro.

    Renoise is also very good for audition+ purposes. I can't rate Renoise enough. The emu Ultra either. Although both operating systems require some extra dedication and experience for different reasons. But, it comes down to what you want to do and what is the tool that you need for optimal results. Precision + character*

    ahh fair enough, tbh I sold me samplers now, just got a korg EMX which is a bit more fun as far as hardware goes in my opinion. I cant get away from workflow advantages of Ableton, might demo that 'Satin' plug from uhe next - looks promising :)

    haha. I dont think i did anything to it apart from pitching......i like the way all the breaks sound coming from hardware:).
    got kinda lazy with the EMU lately though - need to get this room finished :)
    cheers for lookin

    Not sure, the emu ultras are pretty warm & fat. I have also used an ESI 32 that sounded good. I have heard that the EMU 6400 (non ultra) has a slightly different dirty & warm sound but I have never used one.
    They are all fine to use if you have the time to learn the ropes. If you come from a computer based/ DAW background having never used hardware or EMU stuff it might seem like a pain in the arse, but the sound is big.

    EMX-1's are awesome, I wish I never sold mine, tried software, hardware is way more fun for sound design.
    Thank you so much for doing these videos they are a great deal of help! It seems the manual was written by the person who has coded the EOS software.
    Do you know how to address the output system in a way to send each sound out on a different physical output? Kick, snare, hi-hat etc etc, basically a kit out to a mixer :-)

    • @justletmesigninokthx
      @justletmesigninokthx  10 років тому

      Yeh EMX is a wierd thing - quite grimey !!! re; outputs - I think if you click that 'master' button a few times until you see each midi channel with its assigned out you can change it from voice, to main, 2 or 3 or something like that, then you can hard pan them for individual mono outs like kick/snr, its hard to explain without the machine hopefully that makes sense!

    have you used hardware ? there is a clear difference for most - just a matter of workflow vs sound quality imo.

  • @justletmesigninokthx

    If you wanted to 'load' them then its either with floppy disks or zip. Prob better off auditioning from your PC & actually sampling with the E6400 (you might impart some character to the sound as it goes through the EMU A/D converters, FL studio is good for this because you can just click a sample to audition it. Somebody once mentioned that sampling quite hot into the e6400 was good....

    this sampler came with a floppy disk right? I have this sampler but i can not remember. It has been stored away for 20 years. Is that floppy disk needed?

    • @justletmesigninokthx
      @justletmesigninokthx  6 років тому

      it should work fine without a floppy. You will need something to save samples on though..

    • @MemoryLaneCinema

      thanks. I just thought that the original floppy came with drivers and the like.

    hi, great vids m8. my 6400 display has a few glitches, some menu names are scrambled , can it be fixed? thanks in advance!

    • @justletmesigninokthx
      @justletmesigninokthx  7 років тому

      Really not sure about that. You could see if you can replace the screen (not just getting a new backlight) if possible - but its hard to know what the root of the problem & if that would resolve it.
      If you're in the UK you could ask Jazzcat (look him up on facebook), he deals with Akai stuff but he might know. GL !

    Tried this a few times, I'm on an e6400 ultra. Everytime I do the placing and look back at it, its not worked. In the present it simply plays all the samples at once and its on all keys and goes up and down in pitch vis the keybaord. Is there a step Im missing?

      Press preset edit and add 2 extra voices "V" ...Have the kick on the first voice,snare on the second etc ...Now over to the right and set "original key" for each sample like kick "c5" snare "c6".Now press the right button and set the high and low to "c5" and "c6" also,save preset.Hope this makes sense as I'm a bit drunk.

    I am going crazy!!!! I cant get the click track to only come out of the the sub 1 ,While I am playing the sequencer. I have done everything! Need the click to play along with the sequence. HELP!!!

    • @justletmesigninokthx
      @justletmesigninokthx  10 років тому

      I'm not sure what you mean exactly but maybe the click only will come out of the main outs (like the fx) so maybe route out what your playing to sub 1 & have the click > main out? (I sold my emu so i dont have one at the moment so I cant test anything).

    • @kennethsmith2874
      @kennethsmith2874 10 років тому

      Ok... You still might be able to help. Sorry I didn't explain better. . I am writing sequences to back up a band. I am writing, and running my click track threw the sub 1 out. It is coming threw the sub out, but it it still coming out the main as well.. I have been trying to fix this for weeks. I have had the EMU 5000 Ultra for years, but haven't needed to use it. Seems like when I figured it out before, it was something crazy that wasn't even in the manual. If you think of anything, it would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time.

    I have a few questions about this sampler since I just got it yesterday. Is there a release option on this thing because I don't like holding down keys to play notes all the time. Also how do you send a midi signal from the sampler to a sequencer on a daw? I have midi out into a midi sport which goes into my computer but it doesn't seem to be getting any signal

    • @justletmesigninokthx
      @justletmesigninokthx  9 років тому

      yeh it has a release envelope for volume somewhere, its a bit different from your usual softsynth...... re: midi in from it, it will work as long as your soundcard / DAW is setup for it. Remember, most interfaces have some ms delay on them these days, esp USB ones. Don't expect to get anywhere with it immediately - its gonna take time & patience compared to all the software thats around these days that can be learned in 5 mins. I can't help too much as I sold all my samplers (I still wish I had one left - gutted).

    • @dannypankakez871
      @dannypankakez871 9 років тому

      justletmesigninokthx Ok I have one more question even though it may sound kinda stupid, there's midi in, midi out, and midi thru, which goes in which.

    • @justletmesigninokthx
      @justletmesigninokthx  9 років тому

      midi out from soundcard> midi in on sampler. midi out> midi in and midi thru can be thought of as another midi out (some machines may have it on or off by default, most likely on).

    • @justletmesigninokthx
      @justletmesigninokthx  9 років тому

      you will need to set up the daw for an external midi instrument with a midi channel number. I think there are 16, so you need to make sure all this is setup. hopefully on one of my vids you'll see somewhere the midi channels etc ....

    Either it's the camera's audio, or that amen sounds oldschool and dirty (the way we all like it)! I hate overly clean amens, they need to be darker and bass-ier, yo.

  • @djilyaz

    I thought it was all digital?? I don't think they sound better, if I run a sample through a bitrate reducer plug, it sounds like hardware.
