I am a member of a tour company that has haunted tours all over Illinois and some of the best haunted places in the state are central and southern Illinois. The Lincoln Square Theatre in Decatur, Ashmore Estates in Ashmore, The Mineral Springs Hotel in Alton, so many places that are highly active in comparison. But, that being said this is a great video and I applaud your historical accuracy. Hauntings can't happen without history. :)

For more downstate sites, you might want to look into Ashmore Estates just outside of Ashmore and the Roff House in Watseka. Ashmore is a former poor farm and psychiatric hospital that's been featured on a number of paranormal shows, and the Roff House figures prominently into a documented case of possession that is just mind-boggling. Great video!

Living in and being from watseka that town has many legends… all the way back to the native Americans and the legends of the curses and hauntings, and especially the Roff possession. My grandparents love that story, everyone in town knows it was true. Absolutely chilling. There’s another locally famous haunted house in watseka too but they recently developed it and a couple moved in!! Papa and I used to ride our bikes past and I swear once I saw a figure in the window 😵

There are many, many, many more haunted locations in Illinois. One, which is no longer in use, was The Excalibur. It used to be a huge dance club, and it was used as a temporary morgue for those who perished in the 1915 capsizing of a tourist boat sailing on the Chicago River.
There are many hauntings around Erie Street, because of the “new” Chicago was built over the “old” Chicago. Haunted houses, bars, restaurants, cemeteries and streets are in the Chicagoland area.

Back in 2015, I saw a red wallaby in the cornfield at the corner of Kennedy Hill Road and Route Two. People in Byron saw a lion multiple times, and a person I knew from Byron showed me a photograph of hundreds of small orbs in his back yard at night. Around 2018 a farmer south of Byron took a picture of an emu (a large Australian bird) in his cornfield. I believe kangaroos have been seen in the area as well.

Something that we need to understand, manifestations can occur anywhere at any time-the truly stigmatized locations are the ones you need to look out for, haunted is extremely vague, and does not truly define what is actually occurring, which we will not know 99% of the time!

I grew up in Crestwood, which is about two miles from Bachelors Grove Cemetery. One time two buddies and I rode our bikes there and we were just looking at what was left of all the headstones when I turned around and noticed there was someone standing by the pond, he wasn’t fishing, but just standing there staring at the water.
The guy looked like a normal person with nothing throwing a red flag so it didn’t a cause a concern, when I turned to tell my buddies to (check out the weird dude by the pond) he was gone with no trace he was standing there, needless to say we got out of there pdq.
Years later I found online how people used to dump bodies over the Midlothian Turnpike bridge and I wasn’t the first or the last to see “strange” things there.

Fun fact! My hometown of Ellisville IL was once bigger than Chicago. It was founded and settled as an official town when Chicago was still a fort.
It now has less than 60 people living there, and the only “infrastructure” it has is a functioning post office. But I’m part of an organization that’s working to preserve several original buildings, including the Opera House, bank, shoe shop, and original post office. We also have Fulton County’s smallest library!

@@FrightNightScares a few. Though most are secondhand from my dad. There’s an old schoolhouse by him that his friend Dave used to live in (it had been converted into a home in like, the 40’s or 50’s).
Dave said that he used to hear old-time music above him: if you were on the main floor, it would be in the attic. If you were in the basement, it would be on the main floor.
He also had an incident where he had this flashlight at the end of his bed and it would turn itself on. He spent 2-3 nights turning it back off, then finally got tired of it and took the batteries out. Sucker came on anyway.
One night he woke up feeling weird. After a second he realized he was floating a good 6in above his bed. When he realized it, he fell back down like Wile E. Coyote running off a cliff.
The big one Dave and dad talk about is when dad was staying over one night, and he woke up to find the wood stove in the living room was red-hot, and getting hotter. Should have caught the house on fire, but somehow didn’t.
I’ve been in this house and can confirm that that whole area has a spooky feeling about it. I detest going there at night. There’s something there that triggers my “nope nope nope” instinct real hard. There’s many more stories about this place, and others in the area.

Though I have never been there, I have driven down the main road right outside the woods where it resides hundreds of times and I've personally never seen anything unusual. @FrightNightScares I went there with a friend and her family when I was 8 and tours were still available. It was part of the reverse underground railroad and slaves had been kept in the attic. The few times anyone accepted the challenge to stay all night, not even non-believers of ghosts could bring themselves to stay in the attic until morning. Any books I've found about haunted locations in Illinois all have a couple pages about the old slave house in Equality (ironic town name.)

    • @liljohnnie69
      @liljohnnie69 24 дні тому

@FrightNightScares the house was built in the late 1830s in Equality just off of route 1. It's a 3 story structure with the top floor allegedly being equipped with holding cells for slaves. It's been said that years ago the then owners would allow people to spend the night. All but 1 fled the house claiming loud moaning and rattling chains. A reporter from around Carbondale spent the entire night there and experienced nothing until he played back his tape recording the following day. The site was bought by the state of Illinois around 2006 and is now off limits to the public.

I lived in a ghost town in Southern Illinois. My house straddled the line between the still-incorporated town and the unincorporated town destroyed by the tornado in 1927. The large room in that half of the house was haunted.
I saw flickering shapes and heard whispering noises from that room many times.
When it got to be annoying I'd shout at it to knock it off, and it generally would.
I also had a ghost cat that stayed behind the furniture in the living room.
I was very fond of the ghost kitty and saw her many times. When I came home after being gone for a long time she'd pop out to say hi as soon as I walked in through the door. At least three other people saw her as well.
I invited her along when I moved out and she did. I saw her a few times, and a relative saw her as well. I think she's faded away now, my little ghost kitty. I hope she went to a happy place.
I had more paranormal experiences in that place than I could tell of in an hour.
It got to be a pain in the butt. A few paranormal experiences are fine, but several every year for many years was too much.
It was a relief to finally move away. Since I moved I've had only a handful of such experiences, and that's fine with me. Living down there moved the needle on my wierd-stuff-o-meter to the top.
Post me up if you'd like to read more of my experiences there.
I swear all my stories from that time are the honest truth.

It's either going to rot away or the city will eventually demolish it.

One place I’m surprised is not “haunted” is a place called starved rock. Of course the stories are exaggerated of what happened in real life at starved rock. Story goes, that tribes of Indians would fight each other and commit suicide off of the plateau, period, or trap each other on the plateau, and starve them to death. If I remember correctly Indians did fight in the area and trap each other on top.
Another place is every green cemetery. I have checked out so many back road cemeteries in the area. Grundy county has something in their water for creepy cemeteries. There is one south that doesn’t show up on a map that’s in an camp ground/area club. Another one that has a one vehicle at a time old wooden bridge, that goes into the deep woods. This cemetery has dirt paths, a big old tree at the end you have to drive around. An old gate in the back that’s two pillars of cement that’s for walking through that lead to nothing/nowhere. The last one is kind of large for the area, there’s an Indian chief buried in it along with old mausoleums. A lot of newer shinny head stones, again back road and in the woods, so seeing movement and lights in the cemetery is a big thing.

I leave near Bachelor's Grove actually. I've visited it on multiple occasions (day time obviously) but would love to visit it at night. My friend (we'll call her R) was actually scratched one time when she was younger and taunting the spirits. I've felt a small stabbing pain in my side when I stayed for too long. (two hours about)
For the most part, they didn't touch me or this other friend (lets call her Jackie) since we were respectful. They still don't like R a lot but allow her in there, albeit at a shorter time frame than Jackie and I.
The gifts for the unnamed child are not to be touched, once given to the baby you cannot take it back at all.

I lived near Bachelor's Grove and visited with the family during the day. We were respectful and just looked at each grave and prayed. We got a demonic attachment. Our home felt heavy, and a lot of paranormal activity. We had a Priest come over the house and bless it. It worked for a while and called the Priest again he never responded. He felt what was in the home and didn't want to return. A friend of my wife is a white witch and she told us what we had to do. After we did what she asked she told us it was a demonic entity. The beast got angry with her that she told us and it attached itself to her. She couldn't sleep and had to sleep with the light on. Not sure what happened to it after. The house still had paranormal activity, but it was less, still felt heavy. My brother and I wrote a protection writing above each of the door way. It seem to work because the activity was now minimal and house didn't feel heavy anymore. I suggest not to go to Bachelor's Grove if you don't know how to keep them spirits there. You need to tell them to stay there and that they are not allowed to get attached to you or anyone you are with in the name of Jesus Christ. We were foolish!
