One of the things I love most about your channel is that you actually take the time to explore all of these handheld devices outside of just a "around the home" setting, since one of the biggest benefits to these devices is that they can be played anywhere. The camping video in particular is what motivated me to grabbing an RG Nano, as a lover of micro handhelds that also spends a lot of time outdoors
I have quickly come to absolutely love this channel and the videos made. It’s incredibly refreshing and relaxing to watch and listen to all the stories told aboot all the litnxt devices and what we can do with them.
It’s taken me nearly 20 years to get my family to travel like you. Well almost. I have some work to do. I’ll show them this video to show them I’m not the only one.
Great content. Thank you. Excellent writing and performance as usual. Your LPM (laughs per minute) rating has always been one of the highest all time. :-)
On a hiking trip currently, also only took 1 bag and 3 handhelds, pocket 4 pro, flip zizzle and a30, learned from the best enjoy your videos man keep em comin
The best thing about miyoo mini is not just the size, but also how silent the buttons are, especially compared to newer handhelds. The sp may be the best in terms of how secure the screen and buttons are, but boy the buttons get annoyingly loud, especially when playing fighting games
@@gamesbymanuel yeah, I got rg353p (not ps) right when it was available. Very nice ergonomics, silent buttons and shoulders. But no matter what os to use, the initial booting time is extremely long (sometimes over a minute on Jelos). Once it's loaded though, I can play for hours on it without any issues. One of my favourites still
@@vhsretrogamer1664 Over a minute to boot? That sounds very frustrating. I use ArkOS on my RG353PS and if I had to guess I'd say the boot takes about 10 seconds.
@ yeah I sadly can't install arkos on 353p, it is only available on ps, m and v versions. The only option for 353p is Jelos. Also ArkOS on 353m is in my experience pretty unstable for some reason, so I have Jelos there too. But yeah, on 353p Jelos takes up to 1 minute and around 15 seconds on top of that
Great video! You've nailed my philosophy on what handhelds to bring on trips. But I have to say I cringed with the poor Miyoo in the sand. I hate getting sand in my ports 🤣
I bought a MM and started modding it like crazy for myself. Since this is like my main device, I opted to pay for a metal case for it as I felt the stock case wasn't very durable. With the metal case, better buttons, and upgraded speaker, I feel like the MM is like the best pocket device.
I'm just getting back from the Dominican Republic so I can totally relate to this video. I brought my TrimUI Brick, Odin2 Mini Pro and Steam Deck. Mostly used my Brick but pulled out the Odin and Steam Deck while traveling and nights in the hotel room when everyone went to bed
We don’t travel a whole lot, but we do take a couple of work trips a year to a conference at the beach. I always say I will pack minimally and never do. I am getting better with clothes, but unfortunately, I have to take work outfits and play outfits. I also way over pack on tech. I usually bring my MacBook, at least one iPad, and I am bad about bringing a steam deck and my Nintendo switch. By the end of the trip, I have barely used any of it. I might have gotten the MacBook out once or twice. Sometimes I have never played the game handhelds at all. The iPad seems to get all the use. We have another one coming up next month and I think it is just going to be the iPad mini, the game, Sir Galileo, G8, controller, and a mini keyboard. I really want that to be all I need for a weeks travel. However, after watching your New Year’s video, I am doing my best to get in at least 30 minutes of forced gaming every day. So I will either take the steam deck or the Nintendo switch for gaming. And I have to use them because I made that resolution right?
Good advice! If I am traveling during a holiday break, I usually just kind of focus on a system or certain game(s) I want to play and go from there. Even back when I was a kid, I still have fond memories of visiting cousins and hanging out with them playing GameBoy and NES. Also, traveling to Europe with family as a kid with a Game Gear on the plane trying to collect all the Chaos Emeralds in Sonic 1 and reaching Wily's Fortress in Mega Man. Gaming memories certainly stick with you over the years (especially childhood ones).😄
I went for a trip on the Christmas and New Year and I took my Retroid Pocket 2S with me. It was my second best friend on those days, I love that thing so much...
Sounds like an awesome trip, @TechDweeb... glad you got lured out of the cave. I've also been toying with the ide of just bringing a tiny gamepad for playing Retroarch on my iPad, or my BackBone controller (which has a case as big if not bigger than the actual retro consoles themselves that it doesn't really end up saving any space) to use my phone. Time will tell if I give these other two options a try in the future. Lastly, it never ceases to bug me how I own dozens of carts for the Switch (as well as plenty of eShop downloads and the NSO retro collections) and yet NEVER take my Switch with me when I travel. It's just too damn big.

Thanks for showing 64th St on the flipzizzle while explaining why you didn't use it on this trip. That game is amazing! I hope you did play it on one of the ones you did play. I'd totally be playing it in between crab breaks.
I'll have you know, flossing is very underrated. It looks like it takes a whole lot of effort at the start, but it really doesn't add too much more time to your morning (or midday, who am I to judge) rituals. Start by pulling enough of the floss so that you can wrap both ends around your thumb and index finger and have enough length to get in between your teeth easily. Then you want to use a gliding upward or downward motion to force out the particulates stuck in between your teeth. When you get to the gums, use very gentle force, you only want to floss the space in between your gums and teeth. The key is to not saw the floss into your gums, that's gonna make them bleed, and we don't want that. Remember to use clean sections of the floss as you go along, we also don't want to transfer the gunk we just removed into other in-betweens in your mouth. It is totally normal to end up using 12 inches or more of floss in one go. Dentists recommend doing this once a day, but I personally think that's too much, so maybe a couple times a week is fine. The whole thing probably only takes about 5 extra minutes once you've done it a bunch of times. Now, aren't you glad some people waste their time pausing through videos? 😄
I've found recently that my best travel companion is the Playdate - it's asburdly small, its hyperlegible monochrome screen is great for playing in the sun or a light-polluted train car, and since it's a device for novel and unusual indie games, I can always have a couple blind unplayed titles in my backlog, waiting to open them up like gifts when I need them.
I just had a very similar experience, but it was with the Trimui Smart Pro, finishing Mother 3. Yeah, I can definitely say it adds to the trip experience, as a kind of special flavor. I think it was to me a way of reviving something similar where I had a trip to the same beach and was playing Earthound on my good old PSP some years ago.
That why I love you TechDweeb I relate to not wanting to leave to the outside, I mean eeewww. Why would you want to leave your happy place that you work so hard to put together. If you walk into my very small place you would think it was 90's lol. But I too have to leave my place about 3 or 4 times a month. But I make sure I got all my retro things. Like my rg35xx+ and my ipod from 2003
@TechDweeb oh yes, that's what I meant definitely, you are so behind! we need one every day at least 😁 only recently came across your channel, but have loved every minute here. Keep it up man!

I suspect you released this video before the Miyoo Flip was in your hands so you could do a follow-up video to this that includes the Flip. Seems pretty likely though that the Flip won't be suited for sandy environments as the thumbsticks are exposed inside the case.
Yeah it’s always tempting to bring and use only one charger and charging cable but fast chargers will cause puffy batteries on lower powered hand holds so definitely bring the usb c cables that came with your device.
The best handheld doodad to bring on a trip is the best or most used handheld you have. I went away for the Christmas holidays, took three devices with me but ended up only using one - my Trimui Smart Pro.
Dear TechDweeb, I also would like to whip mine out in sunny places. But I am a bit shy, and concerned about what others would think when they see it. Do you have any advice?

Great video! Just a quick question, have you by any chance tested those Redmi Buds with a Nintendo Switch (OLED)? Latency on the Switch is absolutely horrible for most earphones.
@@TechDweeb So I bought the Buds 4 Active, and tested them with a Switch. Hardly any delay with low latency mode activated, I’m very pleased with them!

You don't need an extra bag and can just slip it in and out of your bag or pocket without getting anxious about the screen. One of my favorite gaming travel memories is playing Pokémon with my brother at the beach of Tunesia. Both of us outfitted with GBA SPs we got for Christmas half a year earlier, the Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories Version in his case, and the Mario vs. Donkey Kong Edition in my case. I restarted my Firered, he restarted his Emerald, thanks to the Wireless Adapters this was the first time we really used Trading a lot as we had our own means now and didn't need to borrow a link cable. With finished copies of my Saphhire and his Firered (yes, we both had Firered because mothers can easily be confused by Pokémon Editions) as proxies we could trade earlier between Hoenn and Gen3 Kanto as planned. It wasn't just trade evos. Even just having Pokémon, you aren't supposed to have yet was interesting. Just Sprites you normally don't get to see.
Goodness did that opening hit close to my old hobbit heart. My friends don’t get that home is my happy place! lol. I’d love to see some of your decks and to know what achitype you rock.
My favorite cheap small headphones are the jlabs jbuds mini. They are small enough to attach to a keychain and they have multipoint so you can connect to two devices at once

For me:
I only ever bring clampshells for travel.
That crab got wrecked 😂 8:25
I knew it! Having a RP5 seem to attract a lot of girls on the beach 😂
I finished the nes castlevanias on this... With the rewind function 😈
My favorite cheap small headphones are the jlabs jbuds mini. They are small enough to attach to a keychain and they have multipoint so you can connect to two devices at once
You should also explore those telescopic controllers you add on to phones.
