Is the steamOS with it's simulation of windows games via proton faster than just playing on windows os with the windows bloatware? Bc this will make the difference between buying an ally or a deck
@@TheUltimateHacker007Depends on the game, but a lot of the time it is faster. WINE (which is one of the bigger parts of Proton) is a complete reimplememtation of common Windows programming interfaces. So it's not really a "simulation" or emulator, it's more a Linux API that just so happens to correspond 1:1 to common Windows APIs. Because it is a reimplementation, certain functions might get the same job done in a different way, which could be faster, slower or less compatible than the "real" Windows API. But yeah, the lack of bloatware along with Linux having much better OpenGL and Java performance can make certain games have far better performance.

I remember the Sony UX and how sci-fi (and expensive) it was to own one, now portable gaming is giving us handheld fully fledged gaming pc's that are 100x as powerful and energy efficient...pretty incredible...I ditched desktop and laptop and have been using a steam deck with dock as my main pc for months now, powerful little thing, couldn't ask for more and as its marketed as a gaming console its price stays competitive. It has been a learning curve (USB C single port, third party docks) but I wouldn't turn back, amazes and humbles me that I have all that power in such a small package...playing games my main system used to struggle to play, on a handheld at 100+ FPS... barely any fan noise and not pulling 300W from teh wall? if theres a house firre I can grab my whole system and use it portable? gaming PC, console and personal pc in one? mind blown, FYI its a great workstation, use it for all sots of heavy editing and then can kick baxck and do some gaming, writing this on steam deck as desktop now, I forget it's not a workstation
I dig these takes on the Steam Deck-alikes that come your way. Mostly because they're totally helping me just shut up and be happy with the Deck. $1,200, $1,500? Damn that could go into a really powerful but thermally screwed laptop with a decorative battery and like a mobile 4070 or 4080 in it or something.
blows my mind that the Steam Deck has its main GUI made to use with a controller, yet includes TWO track pads. While the competitors use freaking WINDOWS and don't include trackpads. like what
Thanks to being blessed with having a job that pays me handsomely, I own both a Steam Deck and an Aya Neo 2. I still need to get my emulators and roms installed and configured on the Aya Neo 2, so for now if I want to play retro and console games, the Steam Deck is my go to handhold. PC games feel similar, I haven't tried pushing both systems to the max to gauge which console's better even though the Aya Neo 2 has a more powerful processor. The jury's still out, my only discovered preference was for the Onexplayer with the 5800U, the ergonomics and feel in hand appealed to me over the other consoles, it may have to do with it matching the size of my hands versuses the other handhelds. This appears to be a monster of a handhold but with the announcement of the Asus Ally and other 7840U handhelds coming in the near future, this device is too little too late, I don't know if they plan to release a new OXP with the 7840U but if they do, it could make the entire handheld market more interesting. The Asus Ally could also drive the price of these handhelds below the $1k+ asking price of the Aya Neo's, GPD's and OXP's.
I have a Steam Deck, but I've been very interested in more powerful handhelds that have come out or been announced. However, seeing how bad Windows is on these things makes me really appreciate SteamOS. And seeing that HoloISO still has quirks on other hardware, I think I'll stick to official hardware.

On a desktop, i aktually think you can still create a local account just by unplugging the LAN. At least it worked on mine. It will just give you the option to say "I don't have internet". BUT, if you have wifi built in into your pc, it won't work or you need to unplug/ get the wifi card out for it too work. And why they where so simmilar, you can turn of V-sync. V-sync locks your fps on the refresh rate of your monitor, so if you really want to compare them, disable it. Even tho, this is one of the first videos of you, i watch, I already love them. Thanks for making my day better
This is a great video and oh my god the LAST thing I expected to see was PS All Stars in the wild! I was obsessed with that game for the longest time (still kinda am, it was a good game lmao)
Damn, the way you fly through menus and setting on the steam deck so effortlessly and interface with it makes it seem so comfortable and natural. I know the 1xplayer is new to you so you don’t have the muscle memory with it, but damn it makes the steamdeck look faster, more intuitive, and far far more effortless to use.
I was wondering why there are separate Joy-Cons too. Nobody will confuse it with a Switch! Maybe they expect the sticks will drift? Then they can just tell you to buy a new pair for $60 instead of letting you service it. Also I've seen photos where the controllers were attached to something that looks like the Switch's charging grip. They sell those magnetic keyboards too so if you attach one and remove the controllers then it turns into a Surface-style device (basically a netbook) giving it a second use in school or work without exposing your epic gamer power level.
Game that'll absolutely push your hardware: Elden Ring. Gotta run through all kinds of hoops just to get it to 30fps on Steamdeck. The OnexPlayer seems nice enough but I agree with you on the trackpads. Those are such a big game changer for handheld PC.
Pretty sure the reason the resolution is so high is so that you can integer scale down to 800p and have it still look good. Aswell as having 1600p for videos and clearer text. Lots of other brands are doing the same.
Is there a dosbox core on the leapster? If so you should try to play daggerfall. Its the early 90's crysis. psvita - 6fps (weak 286 performance) new 3ds xl - 6 - 10 fps (386 ?)
Thank you. You brought my joy back because I'm tired of the Nintendo Switch and other limited consoles. All of them are computers but programmed to limit the owner to just a selection of games.
If I had to guess, they probably originally planned to have batteries in the controllers to use them wirelessly but they realised too late that Nintendo's joycon patent basically hinges on the fact they have batteries in them which are charged by docking them in the console. I have seen stories involving third party joycon manufacturers that got into trouble with Nintendo and later had to implement a dedicated USB charging port on each "joycon" and remove that ability to charge via the Switch console so they could re-release the controllers and not get sued. I assume the Onexplayer designers discovered this too late into development and didn't want the clunkiness of having to charge the controllers separately so they just removed the batteries and called it a day.

The reference to Doug geeked me so hard. Great video!
You could do the RE demos. 7, Village, 2, 3 and 4 all have their demos and run well while pushing performance. RE4's demo even has ray-tracing.
Watched a couple of videos and the single thing I have to say is that I love the use of the DK country OST in the editing, actual symphonies to my ears
Those controllers do actually work disconnected lmao, it even has an attachable thing to turn them into a controller.
Yea, only with the accessory. They don't have batteries inside.
@@someguy9175 whoa lmao that's bad
The controllers detach and the scream stands using the kick stand which puts it in to fps mode for fist person shooter games

OMG, that design is so creative!
How do they even think of that??? 🧐

I think they may have gotten inspiration from the Nintendo switch?

I remember the Sony UX and how sci-fi (and expensive) it was to own one, now portable gaming is giving us handheld fully fledged gaming pc's that are 100x as powerful and energy efficient...pretty incredible...I ditched desktop and laptop and have been using a steam deck with dock as my main pc for months now, powerful little thing, couldn't ask for more and as its marketed as a gaming console its price stays competitive. It has been a learning curve (USB C single port, third party docks) but I wouldn't turn back, amazes and humbles me that I have all that power in such a small package...playing games my main system used to struggle to play, on a handheld at 100+ FPS... barely any fan noise and not pulling 300W from teh wall? if theres a house firre I can grab my whole system and use it portable? gaming PC, console and personal pc in one? mind blown,
FYI its a great workstation, use it for all sots of heavy editing and then can kick baxck and do some gaming, writing this on steam deck as desktop now, I forget it's not a workstation
Steam Deck feels like an actual console while OneX feels like a specsheet with two big joycons attacthed
The steam deck feels like a toy.
installing steamos on the onex turns it into a console tho
@@thatonetech5511yeah that’s kind of the point…like it’s literally a gaming device first and a productivity machine second
While the competitors use freaking WINDOWS and don't include trackpads. like what
10:47 had me rolling on the floor. Man of culture it seems
Can't wait for the ROG Ally to come out so you can perform wacky experiments on it
SteamOS on Ally is probably going to be very good.
@@MrSuperpoder I hope so, thats my plan for it.

Over the course of my life I've gone from being annoyed by chinese products covered with engrish to being pleasantly charmed by them
Thanks to being blessed with having a job that pays me handsomely, I own both a Steam Deck and an Aya Neo 2.
In game mode you can use any resolution…just go to the game properties and change it. You aren’t locked to 720p thats just default.
Ah good to know
3:16 😂 Only true 2000's kids caught that Spongebob reference....LOL
I have a Steam Deck, but I've been very interested in more powerful handhelds that have come out or been announced. However, seeing how bad Windows is on these things makes me really appreciate SteamOS. And seeing that HoloISO still has quirks on other hardware, I think I'll stick to official hardware.
Right when you said "Xbox on" at 6:50, you actually turned on *my* Xbox. I've never had that happen before.
That top USB c port is actually thunderbolt 4. You could use an external GPU if you wanted to get ridiculous with it. I think ETA prime actually hooked up a RTX 3080.
That's bonkers lmao
You had my curiosity, but 4:53 you have my attention
That trackpad is top tier more handhelds gotta use it
No, trackpads suck.
@@chdreturns have you used the steam decks track pads? They aren't your pappy's laptop or god forbid dual shock 4 track pads. Those bad boys are the tits AND the ass.
As long as there's both two analog sticks, and one or two track pads, there's absolutely nothing to get butthurt about
@@Yixdy what the fuck is that analogy. i agree tho
Your "hey google" joke triggered my google home and now it's describing "brevity" to me while trying to watch your video.
"I didn't realize that this game wasn't really that hard to run." buddy, its DOOM, of course it's easy to run
Just stumbled across your channel today. I like you. You are fun and your videos are fun. Thanks for being a creator. Keep it up and I look forward to your other videos.
definitely can't dethrone the steam deck at that price point just based off the fact that price to performance the steam deck definitely has beat
THAT IS ONE CHUNKY BOY
Getting sent an early test device, wiping all the preset and jerryriggin a different os on to it, is just simply a pro gamer move.
Maybe the Aya Neo next???
I love your sense of humor! :) Great video!

The more I watch your vids, the more your voice reminds me of youtuber Smii7y, but a tone lower, and at the same level of enthusiasm. Love it.
I work in IT and you showing how to make a local account on Windows 11, I thank you so much, you’re literally the GOAT🙏🙏

I wanted to finish your video, but I just listened to a baby watching songs on youtube all day yesterday. The background music is giving me PTSD.
A fellow elite dangerous enjoyer! Love the videos man
I like that you show that not everything works the first time. Exactly how i had to endure it. Always a problem somewhere
They sell those magnetic keyboards too so if you attach one and remove the controllers then it turns into a Surface-style device (basically a netbook) giving it a second use in school or work without exposing your epic gamer power level.
bringus videos so good, i return a year later and eat spaghetti to them
the doug demuro cameo reference was funny
Game that'll absolutely push your hardware: Elden Ring. Gotta run through all kinds of hoops just to get it to 30fps on Steamdeck.
The OnexPlayer seems nice enough but I agree with you on the trackpads. Those are such a big game changer for handheld PC.
That Google answer messed me up 😂🎉
another great video dude!
it would be funny if there's effectively a new wave of steam machines in the form of handhelds after the first attempt for tv set boxes flopped
I'd be so down
Yeah I'd love to see new machines made for SteamOS maybe in a few years if the steam deck and future iterations are a success.
Pretty sure the reason the resolution is so high is so that you can integer scale down to 800p and have it still look good. Aswell as having 1600p for videos and clearer text. Lots of other brands are doing the same.
Youre gonna blow up big, i hope youre ready!
I loved the Doug demouro reference
love the editing

Is there a dosbox core on the leapster? If so you should try to play daggerfall. Its the early 90's crysis.

🔥_🔥 we want a sim card slot for every single upcoming handhelds.
