I wanna point out that Jigglypuff's pokédex number is 39, a number heavily associated with Miku. The reason for this is that in Japanese 3 can be read as "Mi" and 9 as "Ku"
@@ferrisffalcisNumbers in Japanese don't have a single pronunciation: both kun'yomi (native Japanese) and on'yomi (Chinese-derived) readings are commonly used. Three can be read as both Mi and San
Another reason why Miku could have been paired with Aurorus is because, in popular media and documentaries, sauropod dinosaurs are frequently shown to make whale-like sounds, singing, and there is actual evidence that shows that sauropods were likely able to make similar noises, since they had a lot of hollow space inside their bodies, it is believed that their sounds would reverberate a lot inside them, making powerful booming roars and ressonating growls.
Fun fact, Miku is commonly associated with the number 39, since in Japanese it's pronounced similarly to her name, which makes Jigglypuff even more fitting as it's the 39th pokémon.
39 is used by vocaloid creators because it's pronounced similiar to "thank you" and japanese vocaloid can't pronounce english words so it's often used this way

I see these on Twitter a lot and Wow! I am in love with these pictures. Seriously would love to have Miku as a cameo trainer. My favorite is of course her Ghost type. Hands down! Edit: A birthday upload from Lockstin is the best birthday gift I've gotten today. ^^
And what I love even more is the fan art, especially the ones where the different Mikus interact with each other as individuals. My favourite is Ghost Miku haunting Fighting Miku and Fighting Miku can do nothing about it.
First off, happy birthday man/woman, hope you're enjoying your time with family members and having a huge cake and gifts here and there. Second off, I mean, I've known Hatsune Miku for nearly 15 years, but I'm not a fan of the style of music she sings/dances to...I don't know, I'm more of a classic house/bubblegum dance/house type of person, not so much J-Pop Rock type of music that I've heard multitude of times that it's no different from how rap/hip-hiop/trap/pop/country music sounds very similar to one another.
- the cool part is that Fire Miku's jacket is not just shapes, the sleves are Equalizer displays like what you see in Audio mixers, & her triangles are stylized speaker grills. Same with Water Miku's top being piano keys - Dragon Miku & Miraidon is pretty obvious: The Dragon of the future meets The singer of the future, that's the entire Vocaloid aesthetic (which is funny considering Vocaloid has been a thing for almost 30 years) - i love that Bug Type Miku's dress basically makes her La Cucaracha, one of the most well known Mexican songs - also my favorite is Fighting Type Miku, taking the silliness of the Levan Polka meme & made it into a delinquent boss
Some Add-ons: Chatter and Vocaloid, funnily enough, have a lot in commom: Vocaloid are prerecorded voicebanks that you can use in a software to make it sing what you want, kinda like Chatter needed a prerecorded clip to then say what you wanted. In the ground type, it's quite interesting that they made her a more desert-esc outfit because in one of hers most famous music, Sand Planet, she also traverses a desert. I don't think that the design was based in this music clip, as Flygon is mostly the only Ground type associated with music, but it's a quite nice coincidence. Lastly, It's quite fitting that the Ghost type Miku is kinda disappearing from the existence, but this one is most likely not just because of the Ghost type but also because other famous music from Miku is The Disappearence of Hatsune Miku.
I absolutely adore the Dragon Miku. Dark is still the top spot (also because I, too, like using Luxury Balls but that's a minor point), but the connection between Miraidon (which with its ability also more or less literally sets the stage for her) and Miku as well as the outfit and the sword mic given to her? I love it.
oh wow I thought Meloetta was just plain normal type so I got confused but no you're right, when this came out I thought the meloetta pic was just a "generic trainer" type of art, the pokemon not chosen for its typing but moreso for how well it matches with Miku thematically
1:53 I’m genuinely shocked you didn’t cover these pins more as three in particular are very indicative of the psychic typing. One pin is the twisted spoon held item that boosts psychic type moves in the games. Another pin is the mouth of a bruxish, a psychic type Pokémon. The final pin I noticed was a pin depicting the mysterious psychic type Pokémon unown, specifically unown M… you know like Mikus name.
A note about the ground type, and why it's so cool that it's themed so heavily to sand, specifically! One of Miku's more recent (recent being like 2017 lol) popular songs is known as "Dune" or "Sand Planet" (Depending on the translation), the music video and album art depicting Miku walking through a sandy desert, meant to symbolize her relatively niche appeal and the dedication of those who both use her to create music and listen to said music (as in, making Vocaloid music isn't necessarily a quick and easy path to success or even a lucrative career, the people in the community are in it for the passion). So many comments on ground-type Miku I saw were at least referencing the song Dune in some way, I thought that was really cool! Dune is one of the most watched Miku music videos on UA-cam!
The fan art that has come from this has been amazing too. Seeing all the different trainers interact and using 'type advantage' over each other for different things is great. Definitely worth looking up.
God I felt SO validated when Miraidon was revealed as the Dragon Miku choice because I literaly named my own MIraidon Miku back when the game came out! Like, it was just obvious to me, Mirai being a word associated to Miku in like a thousand ways, the blue color scheme, being a digital creature AND in my head, the lighting bolts on the sides of its head could be seen as floating twintails
Wasn't Altaria the Ace Mon of choice for the PokeContest rival in ORAS, who herself is an idol? Also I'm sure there are some Winona inspirations on the Flying-type Miku.
A majority of these were made by Megumi Mizutani, who is essentially the 2nd Ken Sugimori. She's responsible for many Full Art cards in the TCG, as well as designing: Mienshao Pancham Mimikyu Hisuian Growlithe/Arcanine Tandemaus line Tinkatink line Professor Burnet (Dream Radar rendition) Lana Victor/Gloria The Battle Maison girls from XY Bridgette (Bank) Most major characters from ORAS and LGPE
I think that another reason that ghost Miku has glitched parts of her body is a reference to the song "the dissaperence of hatsune miku" where the Miku software is being unistalled or becoming dead so to speak that also make Mismagius an ever better partner as its cry sound like wailing just like parts of dissaperence
Something else Lockstin didn't mention about fairy miku is that the hair colors are also reminiscent of the colors of Sylveon, which is kinda the poster child fairy type. Plus, as a bonus, it adds a likely unintentional link between Hatsune Miku and the trans community in the fairy type miku. Which, like, need I say more?
I really like how ground type Miku is referencing Suna no wakusei in the sand theme and concept sketches, while dragon type Miku’s pose and claws reference Salamander, both iconic songs and Salamander being another collaboration in itself. The partnership with Miraidon is perfect, since anniversary concerts are called Magical Mirai and Miku is ‘the idol of the future’.
I really wanna point out, and maybe it wasn’t intended, but I realized Miku’s electric outfit literally references ELECTRO SWING!! that little detail makes me so unbelievably happy :)
Honestly, I learned a lot from the many comments listing out facts on why Miku has these as her partner pokemon, and especially a lot of facts about Miku herself. I never knew that Miku's appearance was so.... malleable, if that makes sense, and still be called Miku.
Also Steel Miku' s hair also referred to Tanabana as well with the whole putting paper with wishes hanging on bamboos and such, and I personally think Rock Miku is partly based on jesters, magical girls and holograms, afterall the veil and skirt is a "hologram" of aurora made form Aurous's roars that Miku can control on and off in her performances with her baton , and Ghost Miku have major Ghost Rules and the Disappearance of Hatsune Miku vibe.
three little details i noticed is that her tan lines on the water type design on her arms and legs match up with her detached sleeves and boots from her regular design. And with the ground type design, when you mentioned the crocs at first, i thought you would touch on it more as the holes seem to make a skull design, which with Cubone/Marowak and the various moves named after bones being ground type, the skull fits with the ground type design. Then finally, the font for dark type miku's '01' is very nice since with other designs, they didn't keep it red, and it could have been made black here, but staying red makes the 0 look like a pokeball on its side.
16:12 Kartana is literally like a little samurai origami guy (and is Steel-type), and its counterpart, Celesteela is literally a bamboo rocketship that is also based on the tale of Princess Kaguya (and is also Steel-type), so Steel Miku might also have them, too.
I'm pretty sure miku's ghost type design is also referencing the disappearance/end of hatsune miku :> the ground type design being desert inspired may also be a nod to sand planet ^^
Honestly when this collaboration was announced I didn't know what to think, but after seeing each Miku I just became SO grateful this crossover happened!
I love that Pikachu wasn't the electric type rep! They could have made a costume for the rat but no! They made the effort to look at the creatures they made and give it a chance to shine! I love it so much! Also the fact that fairy was Jigglypuff and with the number 39 (mi-ku) is just lovely~
So here's a little bit of cute stuff as a fan of the artist who designed Dark type Miku all these years: Lownine (freelance concept artist for games such as Fire Emblem Three Houses & Nier: Automata) had been a longtime Pokemon fan even before he was professionally involved with the series! As a fan of his art as well as that of Megumi Mizutani's pieces, these collab pieces have been a joy to follow! He's previously painted key art for Pokemon Ultra Sun/Moon, perhaps most memorably created that cool art piece of legendary Pokemon battling Ultra Necrozma!
You know... this is another case where Pokemon is actually giving attention to Pokemon that aren't Charizard or Pikachu.... and people won't even think about it...
hey hey hey Lockstin, as a lifeguard and swim instructor, i want you to know that we do remember sunscreen! but the sun is so impossibly unbearable, sometimes you’ll still get some pretty gnarly tan lines!
I know the other Vocaloids weren't featured in this artwork, but after viewing some fanart exploring what that could look like, I actually came up with an absolute big brained pick for Gakupo as a Psychic type specialist: give him a Gallade and dress him up like/similar to the Pokemon Conquest version of Uesugi Kenshin. On its own, it nicely fits Gakupo's whole samurai theme, plus Gallade would be pretty befitting for a noble warrior type character. But there's two absolutely brilliant details here that really further solidify this pick. Firstly, Kenshin's starting partner Pokemon in Pokemon Conquest was Gallade, and he himself was also a Psychic type specialist in that game. But dressing Gakupo up as him specifically also doubles as an amazing casting gag of sorts as Gakupo's voice provider famously played Uesugi Kenshin himself in the Japanese period drama Fuurin Kazan. 😁
I gotta say rock type miku looks very reminiscent of an outfit you’d see at a snow miku concert. So snow/ice and miku have a loose connection thanks to these concerts. It’s a loose connection between miku and aurorus but it’s there
17:40 It's pretty obvious. It's an AI generated Pokémon / Human imagination generated Pokémon from "the future", and she's an AI (in lore) Virtual Artist made by humans, a software library (irl) and basically the Mascot of Yamaha's Vocaloid Software. Just like Miraidon is the mascot of Pokémon Violet. And also her existence as a virtual artist and a software is like a paradox. Therefore, a Paradox Pokémon.
I loooove in the Glorious Day - EVE MV we get to see another Fairy/Dragon type "Trainer Mikus" . Dragon Miku canonically fights and loses to Red and I think that's the most epic thing ever to happen in this collab.
I don't think they could have chosen a better bunch of Pokemon for this collab. And as someone who is getting a little sick and tired of constantly seeing future generations of Pokemon get shafted marketing wise in favor of "The Big Five" of gen 1, it is so nice to see some more obscure Pokemon getting represented here. And Miraidon for Dragon type was just genius.
Miraidon also fits since it and Koraidon are basically the Paradox Forms of Cyclizar, and Paradox Pokemon aren't real past/future Pokemon but instead the dreams of Professors Sada and Turo brought to life by Terastal energy, much like how Miku isn't real but rather someone else's dream brought to life by technology. It also makes sense for Miraidon to be chosen over Koraidon given it's futuristic tech theme and its Electric type matching Project Voltage
Ghost Type Miku's sleeves have the design of Spell Tags in them! The glitchy theme could also be related to one of her most iconic songs, Hatsune Miku no Shoushitsu/The Disappearance of Hatsune Miku
I have a question: are you going to explain the returning pokemon in Paldea? The connections between returning mons from previous gens and iberian peninsula-inspired region interests me... (You could also do Alola and Unova, but you need to take some time to do it)
I wish you would have mentioned that there are actual Pokemon themed Vocaloid songs being made for this collab as well :) Such as -Mitchie M - What Kind of Future -DECO*27 - Volt Tackle -inabakumori - Denki Yohou I know Vocaloid isn't everyone's cup of tea, but the songs all have nice references too :)
I’m sure it’s been brought up a bunch already, but Ground Type Miku probably takes at least some inspiration from the very popular Miku song ‘Sand Planet’. I know I thought of it when I first saw the design lol Edit: Also, Fairy type Miku’s style is most definitely schoolgirl gyaru!
I love thos collab as a whole, and my faves are definitely ice and fighting, but something about it that I love thinking about is the normal and psychic mikus. Psychic miku very much looks liek a normal type trailer until you notice her psychic abilities, and then the normal type miku looks like a psychic type trainer to me! I have no idea if the idea was intentional but its like they made the clearly default psychic type miku so normal all the crazy psychic vibes had to go somewhere so normal type miku took them bc she couldnt just look ACTUALLY normal. They look like they switched places to me and its just sooo cute.
Another thing for Miraidon. Miku is often called "The Electric Diva," and I can't think of a better dragon pokemon that also fits that name. It's just perfect.
the ground-type miku reminded me of that one music video that had miku going aroundin the desert with her producers. (i didn't understand the theme of it, honestly...)
If I'm correct for Mismaguas the reason I think they also picked her is because the move Perish Song. It was the originally only Pokémon that had the move
So happy to see people discussing Project Voltage. As a fan of Pokemon, Vocaloid, and character design, its brought me alot of joy! I'd love to see you discuss the collab songs in the future too. Tho, i know that might be hard due to copyright, so it's understandable that it's not possible.
ahhhh i'm so happy to see you bring attention to this!! i've been so hyped for it since it started and its so fun to see someone actually talking about it!

Some Add-ons:
Chatter and Vocaloid, funnily enough, have a lot in commom: Vocaloid are prerecorded voicebanks that you can use in a software to make it sing what you want, kinda like Chatter needed a prerecorded clip to then say what you wanted.
I think it's kinda both weird and amazing that people are shipping the Hatsune Miku trainer designs, with interactions based on the type chart!
Fr?!
that's really funny
shipping miku with herself dates back pretty far actually, it's kinda funny
Call it the lighter, softer, and more work-safe corollary of Rule 34: If it exists, people will ship it.
I’ve seen this happen to the Onceler
All too many times
There's people shipping Steven Universe with himself in Diamond/Pink form... I'm one of those, the art and comics are too good
1:53 I’m genuinely shocked you didn’t cover these pins more as three in particular are very indicative of the psychic typing.
This may be a stretch considering the Japanese, but Unown M reminds me of Anonymous M, her most viral song this year.
These designs are crazy I can definitely imagine people cosplaying this. Poison, Ghost, Dark, water, and ice are my favorite
The fan art that has come from this has been amazing too. Seeing all the different trainers interact and using 'type advantage' over each other for different things is great. Definitely worth looking up.
Can you please make a lore video about the Flabébé line? They’re some of my favorite Pokémon and they should be represented more!
Im pretty sure he did years ago, before that was even a mainstay series on his channel.
For rock miku,it's probably based on one of the most popular songs "cendrillon"
A lot of miku songs is her wearing dresses or a vocaloid being royalty
I'm amazed at how well the artists made these, all of the costumes are really cool and give me so much inspiration for drawings and stuff
A majority of these were made by Megumi Mizutani, who is essentially the 2nd Ken Sugimori. She's responsible for many Full Art cards in the TCG, as well as designing:
Mienshao
Pancham
Mimikyu
Hisuian Growlithe/Arcanine
Tandemaus line
Tinkatink line
Professor Burnet (Dream Radar rendition)
Lana
Victor/Gloria
The Battle Maison girls from XY
Bridgette (Bank)
Most major characters from ORAS and LGPE
I hated the ice type version before now.
I never knew that Miku's appearance was so.... malleable, if that makes sense, and still be called Miku.
you should look into her project diva outfits, and the concert fits!
Miku is a state of mind 🤌
I so want her to be a level in a pokemon game that she runs a recording studio and you can only fight here with pokemon associated with sound.
Love watching this, enjoying the eloquently broken down descriptions and then getting hit with “front hair danglies” without skipping a beat.
16:12 Kartana is literally like a little samurai origami guy (and is Steel-type), and its counterpart, Celesteela is literally a bamboo rocketship that is also based on the tale of Princess Kaguya (and is also Steel-type), so Steel Miku might also have them, too.
Why are these designs so cool? I honestly kinda want to cosplay as some of them
I'm pretty sure miku's ghost type design is also referencing the disappearance/end of hatsune miku :> the ground type design being desert inspired may also be a nod to sand planet ^^
These songs have been living rent free in my head for the past couple days and I cannot wait for the rest of the songs to be released :)
Just a quick reminder that Mitchie M is releasing their song for Project Voltage in a few days
There’s 4 producers I am pretty sure for the project so it’s nice seeing different takes with Miku and the Pokémon collab
I hope that there will also be songs from PinocchioP, Kairiki Bear and Kanaria in the Pokémon collab.
@@ninjan2002 I believe PinocchioP has a song for voltage coming out on the twentieth
@@cacophonythegoblin8381 HOLY!!!
hey hey hey Lockstin, as a lifeguard and swim instructor, i want you to know that we do remember sunscreen! but the sun is so impossibly unbearable, sometimes you’ll still get some pretty gnarly tan lines!
gigantic brained
I gotta say rock type miku looks very reminiscent of an outfit you’d see at a snow miku concert. So snow/ice and miku have a loose connection thanks to these concerts. It’s a loose connection between miku and aurorus but it’s there
Dragon Miku is a reference to the racer Miku Series, which is very popular
17:40 It's pretty obvious.
It's an AI generated Pokémon / Human imagination generated Pokémon from "the future", and she's an AI (in lore) Virtual Artist made by humans, a software library (irl) and basically the Mascot of Yamaha's Vocaloid Software. Just like Miraidon is the mascot of Pokémon Violet.
And also her existence as a virtual artist and a software is like a paradox. Therefore, a Paradox Pokémon.
Can't forget about her series of concerts: Magical *Mirai*
I loooove in the Glorious Day - EVE MV we get to see another Fairy/Dragon type "Trainer Mikus" . Dragon Miku canonically fights and loses to Red and I think that's the most epic thing ever to happen in this collab.
Oh god, when Lockstin reads "Slay queen!" he reads slay like it's part of the title and not an action/command
Unofficial form names for timestamps sake.

No one gonna mention that Dark Type Miku’s mic is a rifle parasol? Because that’s badass.
Very cute feature on the water type miku is that she has tan-lines where her detached sleeves and high boots would be on her base design.
Miku isn't a vtuber, she's a vocal synthesizer voicebank.
(You could also do Alola and Unova, but you need to take some time to do it)
I like how Fairy Miku's pillow is covered in the icons used in Pokemon RBY's Pokemon menu.
Interesting video you created. Also, quick correction the old school famous band "KISS" is not a heavy metal band, it's an original Rock & Roll band.
They collabed with Miku before also a few other K-pop groups like enhypen glad to see them doing more music collabs ever since the ed sheeran one
Fighter Miku is also a reference to ouendan a cheer group to raise fighting spirit
I wish you would have mentioned that there are actual Pokemon themed Vocaloid songs being made for this collab as well :)
Such as
-Mitchie M - What Kind of Future
-DECO*27 - Volt Tackle
-inabakumori - Denki Yohou
I know Vocaloid isn't everyone's cup of tea, but the songs all have nice references too :)
Danbooru is having a field day with pokemon type Miku.
In Japanese, Voca in Vocaloid is said the same way as the Vol in Voltage. It doesn’t quite work in English but it’s a really good pun in Japanese
I’m sure it’s been brought up a bunch already, but Ground Type Miku probably takes at least some inspiration from the very popular Miku song ‘Sand Planet’. I know I thought of it when I first saw the design lol
Edit: Also, Fairy type Miku’s style is most definitely schoolgirl gyaru!
I just saw a bit of these cards earlier today, glad I know what they are now.
Now I can't wait to see someone do a "Music team only" playthrough.
I love the gen 1 sprites on her bag in the fairy artwork
I love thos collab as a whole, and my faves are definitely ice and fighting, but something about it that I love thinking about is the normal and psychic mikus. Psychic miku very much looks liek a normal type trailer until you notice her psychic abilities, and then the normal type miku looks like a psychic type trainer to me! I have no idea if the idea was intentional but its like they made the clearly default psychic type miku so normal all the crazy psychic vibes had to go somewhere so normal type miku took them bc she couldnt just look ACTUALLY normal. They look like they switched places to me and its just sooo cute.
"He had a phase" and there's no reason for shame in it, rather respect.
Fairy Miku's hair is also reminiscent of Galarian Rapidash, another Fairy type mon
If I'm correct for Mismaguas the reason I think they also picked her is because the move Perish Song. It was the originally only Pokémon that had the move
Poison Miku is my favorite, but that might be my bias towards both poison type pokemon, mad scientist tropes, and gas masks mixing into one
Chatot for Normal is fitting. But I find myself wondering what a Porygon design would be.
Probably something similar to the ghost type
But they still haven't recovered from...the incident
@@airplanes_aren.t_realPorygon my beloved…
So happy to see people discussing Project Voltage. As a fan of Pokemon, Vocaloid, and character design, its brought me alot of joy!
I'd love to see you discuss the collab songs in the future too. Tho, i know that might be hard due to copyright, so it's understandable that it's not possible.
ahhhh i'm so happy to see you bring attention to this!! i've been so hyped for it since it started and its so fun to see someone actually talking about it!
btw, those things on dragon-type mikus boots are actually called spurs, not stirrups 😭
Miku's creator is "Crypton FUTURE Media" which also makes Miraidon appropriate.
If you pay attention, the tan lines on Water Miku match what would be expected from her tanning while wearing her default outfit
I think Steel Miku's hair thingies look more like her classic skirt lanyard than a tsukamaki/japanese sword handle wrap
That video made me realize that the last 3 Generations all had one music-themed Starter. They're all also different types
I like how for all the starter types they gave her a starter Pokemon.
I could be wrong but I think ghost Miku’s sleeves have the pattern of the spell tag item.
Steel type representative Jirachi I thought was for Miku having a wish to make people happy by singing. "The Disappearance of Hatsune Miku", if memory serves
Flying Miku having a Chinese like fashion might be related to Chinese being one of the languages Miku has an official voicebank for
the flying type design reminds me of Lisia from oras especially because of the fact she uses altaria
2:38 (it's just a hunch but..)their singing wake me up.And she may not look it but(also a hunch)her and obstagoon are singing korn songs.
