@kalythai right. Ngl its a crime he is available on early routes Flamigo is def a after 5th gym route type Pokémon. And the fact it was a flamingo everyone wanted to use it and the fighting flying is a nice combo. The shiny is a crime tho. That might be its downfall, shiny hunters wont have em on thier radar.
I think that there is a missing a piece of the puzzle on Bombirdier. Throughout Europe storks are known for occasionally nesting on people's rooves. They can then be a nuisance for passers by as they throw waste nest material and other objects off the roof onto the ground, which could hit somebody if they weren't careful.
13:45 A new hand touches the beacon. Edit: also, probably one of the funniest things I've ever seen was a company is selling USB powered pet rocks. They don't do anything but, it's a rock with a USB cable stuck in it. It was so dumb, I love it.😂
Before reading this, know I have nothing against Flamigo. I do really like it as a Pokémon, I love pink and love birds so putting them together (both IRL and in game) can’t go wrong. I can only really see in Flamigo is a flamingo with a body that’s slightly shaped like a boxing glove. I’m happy that it’s getting covered on the channel so the more interesting design aspects and hidden references are more apparent. The more reason to like it the better!
i genuinely for the life of me cannot see it as a boxing glove. it just has that weird little knot thing around its neck, which is hardly notable from up close, let alone from a distance. MAYBE I'd get what yall were saying if the wings evoked the idea of a boxer's glove but it just doesn't, they flap like a normal ass bird. ironically the one time they could have gotten away with making it look lifeless so it could pass as a flamingo lawn ornament objectmon
Squawkabilly is basically just a normal parrot with a pompadour. There’s a loud-ass flock of feral red crowned parrots that terrorizes my town, and they’re pretty common across LA and the American southwest in general
Interesting lockstin forgot to mention that flamenco and flamingo, in spanish, are both flamenco and the bird is one of the many theorized reasons the dance is called that
One thing that wasn’t mentioned about Squawkabilly that I think is really cool is that the type of parakeet that it’s based on is an invasive species, which ties into its rockabilly/Elvis look, as Elvis helped to popularize rock and roll, which was thought to be “invading” the culture of the general public at the time.
True, i forgot they were invasive, but even more intersting, they are sorta invasive on their native region too, you see, on brazil, they only happen on the south, rio grande do sul to be exact, towards the "interior" (towards the continent), but due to the warming, they started to expand their region towards the coast, i live on the coast and see them on a weekly basis, they are very resilient, like pidgeons, they build their nest on buildings, specially electric poles and water towers. One of my teachers on college was the one that told us about this expansion of territory thing
Flamigo really shines in its personality in game as this crazy murder bird. I remember exploring too far from the starting area, a lv 15 flamingo runs up to me, cant escape, no pokedoll to throw and kills my team. Almost as murderous as Veluza but with a crazy bird asthetic.
@@greengaleproductionsComfey is primarily used in Gen 7 NU and Gen 8 PU. It can be played as a defensive pivot with U-turn and Defog for hazard control or as a Calm Mind Draining Kiss sweeper, supported by its unique ability Triage (priority on healing moves). In Gen 8 Comfey received Stored Power to make its CM set more dangerous in general and effective against poison types. In the context of Doubles, I know that it can act as a supporter: Speed control by using Tailwind or Trick Room, healing of teammates with Floral Healing in combination with Triage, removal of status with Aromatherapy and enhancing damage using Helping Hand.
Watching you swing that flamingo decoration around and having it break never gets old! XD I also thought Bombirdier could have some Egyptian references. The top notch on the head and the markings around the eyes. Plus, storks are very common in hieroglyphics.
Quite a bit of the Ancient Egyptian abjad had animals representing their letters (there were no written vowels aside from their version of the letter "A"-a vulture-representing the glottal stop). Of the phonographs, six were animals: "A", "F", "J", "L", "M" and "W"; which were written as a vulture, horned viper, snake, lion, owl and quail chick respectively.
Imagine walking through Paldea after eating a sandwich and a pop up comes up in the game “your stomach hurts, you need to have diarrhea soon!”, so you have to fast travel back to the school to shotgun the headmaster’s toilet. This game needed a diarrhea mechanic.
Honestly, if they wanted Flamigo to have more relations to dancing, then they probably should have shown that more, like maybe some longer feathers that are similar to a dress commonly used in flaminco sounds like at least a little bit more then what we got.
13:47 “A new hand touches the beacon. Listen. Hear me and obey. A foul darkness has seeped into my temple. A darkness that you will destroy. Return my beacon to Mount Kilkreath. And I will make you the instrument of my cleansing light.”
I mean flamigo was pretty decent in competitive with a dondozo strat in Reg A, which turn him into a monstrous sweeper, which is hilarious that literally just a bland flamingo was terrifying when dragons, an elephant tank and a robot warrior were rly good.
I love Flamigo! I was excited when I saw them from the opening and as soon as I saw it in game, it was basically just a Flamingo with a knot around its nexk and my love for it just EXPLODED with just how dopey and simple it is but also by how surprisingly strong it was!
Weirdly enough, Flamigo gets a lot of side recognition due to its brokenness in Gen 9 speedruns (amazing typing, insane early-game stats + Scrappy) as well as its hidden Ability making it amazing in VGC.
Bombirdier randomly giving you a rock sounds funny to me now that you said it out loud. It's like you're having a bad day and your pet Bombirdier doesn't know how to help so it gives you a rock.
It's interesting how Flamigo is called the Synchronize Pokémon despite not having Synchronize as an ability. Flamenco is part of its inspiration, yet it has Tangled Feet for an ability rather than Dancer. That said, I did enjoy hearing your explanation for it could be part Fighting type. Despite its plain design, Flamigo is a nice Pokémon.
For me, I think it’s the Co-Star ability that fits it. Flamingoes synchronise themselves to another. And Co-star gives them all the boosts the partner has. Which is why it’s a fun duo with Oricorio.
Bombirdier dropping rocks instead of babies could also be a reference to Greek mythology. The titan Chronos received a prophecy saying that his child would overthrow him, so he ate his children once they were born. When it was time for Zeus to be eaten, Chronos’s wife tricked him into eating a rock instead of a baby, causing him to vomit out the children Chronos already ate.
Lockstin and Gnoggin, thank you for keeping me happy during these stressful times. Your videos are a great escape from all my work that I have to do during the week, thank you!
I love flamigo and bombirdier. They are wonderful bird references and cool bird Pokemon. Both were a part of my team, I actually used the titan bombirdier. I especially love just watching flamigos walk around because game freak gave them the head flag animation as the walk. I also think it’s cool that bombirdier has an ability that sort of gives them 3 stab types.
Though I need to double check, I am pretty aware GF does have a design category they make known as "filler" Pokemon, the Basculin line was a part of this until Legends happened. I unironically do like Flamigo because it is just funny to beat people with a living lawn ornament and I do hope one day they make a mon based on a decoy duck as well. I also wish I had a shiny Meloetta like the one you showed in the dancer mon demonstration... I do have four normal Meloetta though, so a shiny would make the team look cool.
No idea why he used it, Meloetta's unable to be obtained shiny yet. He also used shiny Hisuian Lilligant, which I know that's it because normally its flow is pink like shiny Unovan Lilligant's
@@Surkk2960 For Lilligant probably because it likely was a shiny a lot of hunters went for. As for Meloetta, no idea. Like said, it's never been given out shiny yet so I have no clue why he chose to use the shiny Gen 9 model for it
I'd like to think that Bombirdier might be inspired by Secretary birds too, hence its Dark type. It has the same black and white colors and even the same crest behind its head. Secretary birds are also known as Killer Queens and once they kill a prey (which are mainly snakes) they start to dance on it, which is pretty dark. Moreover, it is an African bird of prey and Bombirdier is not the only one based on African animale, think of Rabsca mainly based on the Egyptian God Khepri and Espathra which name comes from Cleopatra.
I don't mind the flamingo pokemon, but I feel like it was a missed opportunity for a cute baby pokemon. Have you seen a baby flamingo, they are adorable!
Talking about a regional variant of Gardevoir i'm pretty sure that the Charcadet line is one of the new "convergent" pokemons for the Ralts line. And if you ask why they don't have a Kirlia equivalent... the child soldier is forced to mature.
I’ve been binging your videos and am always glad to see a new upload! I don’t even play mainline pkmn games anymore, but it’s so fun hearing about the design origins. A couple Pokémon that I forget about frequently are Heatmor and Turtonator. They’re cool, but seem kind of out of place for whatever reason. I never see fan art of them.
Funny you decided to get do a bird trio recently becuase I had been thinking about a different trio recently. Unova had introduced three 2 stage lines of Bird Pokemon, the Braiviary, Mandibuzz and Swanna lines. They are based off an Eagle, Swan and Vulture. I think they might be worth a deep dive as it seems a bit too deliberate (esp since two of them are version counterparts) and I think they might be based off a certain set of constellations comprising the Summer Triangle (though Mandibuzz's case is a bit more complex as it doesn't resemble the respective constellation at first. AFAIK Lyra is seen as a vulture in the Arabian world)
The Vulture/Eagle thing is actually ancient. The oldest depictions of Lyra are of a Vulture not an Eagle. All the positive & noble attributes the Vulture had were transferred to the Eagle and negative Human superstitions arose around Vulture's eating the dead. Even various Bible translations changed Nasr to mean Eagle instead of Vulture.
i wanted to watch this to try and get me to like these Pokemon more but now I'm just more disappointed that they weren't fleshed out more. like the ideas for flamigo and squackabilly are there but they just, aren't interesting, at all, even after you try and notice the better parts about them. flamigo especially disappoints me as "flamico dancer fighting type flamingo" sounds pretty cool! yet you'd never even guess that's what it was trying to go for from a distance.
22:59 Well not quite the same, dekatora is an art style, not part of a delinquent lifestyle. In fact itasha would probably be closer just for the close association with a Japanese counter-culture, though in this case it's otaku (though some dekatora were apparently inspired by Gundam? But they're more than just that of course while itasha are not) ... In fact, there's another variation of motorbikes closer to dekatora known as dekochari, which have _nothing_ to do with Japanese delinquents.
Flamigo hits like a f%$kin truck and being available early in game makes it a fantastic mon. Bombirdier is just majestically sinister and Rocky Payload gives her a Dhemise situation. Squawkabilly is at least more tolerable than Unfezant 😅
Bombirdier should've been carrying a little chick around, And Squawkabilly should've had the feathers under its wings which mimic a jacket be black to really tie that design aspect in properly.
I like how because Paldea is an open world game and it encourages exploring a lot of the pokemon are influenced/inspired by traveling. Squawkabilly has the whole biker gang inspiration and is a taxi service, Koraidon Miraidon and Cyclizar are literal bikes, Spaniards traveled to Latin America. Heck the whole Area Zero story and all that, is about time TRAVEL
Flamigo is unironically one of my favorite Pokemon this Gen. i had no plans at all to use one on my team, but through sheer chance i started using it as a filler member, only for it to outperform most of the main team.
With how much some of my bird enthusiast friends have talked about flamingos, I could very easily believe Flamigo being a Dark-type. One of my friends can attest that flamingos are assholes, and he normally gets along with all sorts of birds he comes across.
Personally, Bombirdier also reminds me a lot of Japanese/Asian cranes and how they're depicted... which, I'm pretty sure storks and cranes are closely related, so there's that, although I might be completely on the wrong track with that, since I don't think any of Bombirdiers traits really fit with Japanese tales about cranes, the only one I can think of is of the thankful crane, I think it was called "Tsurugaeshi-no-Onna" in Japanese, a crane whose life gets saved by a human, so unbeknownst to him she transforms into a human woman, approaches him and marries him, making beautiful dresses night after night to sell, while forbidding her husband from watching, only for him to eventually get too curious and watch her at work to discover she was a crane and for her to fly away. You can maybe attribute stuff like the bib to the story, or the dropping of rocks as a "return gift" of sorts, but overall that story probably plays no role in Bombirdiers design.
How can we forget Bombirdier when it's a Titan? It's also one of, what, two Pokémon that essentially have three types? It's Dark/Flying but gets a boost to Rock attacks. It's like that other forgotten fellow Dhelmise who's Ghost/Grass but gets a boost to Steel attacks. Also, a jerk stork? Now that's new. It's as new as the idea of a Fighting flamingo, or rather Flamigo. That other parakeet one...meh. Chatot is more memorable because of its signature move.
I actually love Flamigo but I used it in game so that probably influences my love lol. Same thing happened with Butterfree so nothing has changed for me having some inordinate amount of love for at least one useless mon per generation lol.
I loved bombirdier since the titan battle, I love its fancy makeup and rock moves, and I had to change my planned team to try and fit bombirdier into it. Accidentally in love. EDIT: Also I didn't know until this video it is meant to be a stork. I thought it was an albatross. We don't have storks or the myth of storks bringing babies in NZ and it looks a lot like an albatross.
FINALLY SOMEONE NOTICED THE FLAG THING 🎉🎉🎉🎉 And speaking of Brazil, the whole biker gang thing (or maybe just the koud bikes) are VERY MUCH here, so there is a more "closer to home" connection
0:48 "Bomb-BIRD-ē-uhr"?! I figured it was obvious this name is meant to be pronounced BOMB-buhr-DĒĒR. Ya know...like "Bombardier"? 🙄 EDIT: 18:25 Omg ... he pronounced "Bombardier" wrong, too.

@kalythai right. Ngl its a crime he is available on early routes
Flamigo is def a after 5th gym route type Pokémon. And the fact it was a flamingo everyone wanted to use it and the fighting flying is a nice combo.
The shiny is a crime tho. That might be its downfall, shiny hunters wont have em on thier radar.
It's shiny is pretty though? It's a nice clear difference to It's regular form and it makes sense for the pokemon. It's nice pale color?
I think that there is a missing a piece of the puzzle on Bombirdier. Throughout Europe storks are known for occasionally nesting on people's rooves. They can then be a nuisance for passers by as they throw waste nest material and other objects off the roof onto the ground, which could hit somebody if they weren't careful.
13:45 A new hand touches the beacon.
Edit: also, probably one of the funniest things I've ever seen was a company is selling USB powered pet rocks. They don't do anything but, it's a rock with a USB cable stuck in it. It was so dumb, I love it.😂
Finally a vid on the "it's just a flamingo" pokemon that is clearly way more than just a flamingo.
Preach
Whatever design is behind it they should have done more
Before reading this, know I have nothing against Flamigo.
Wdym clearly more than just a flamingo. It’s just a cartoon flamingo on the outside
i genuinely for the life of me cannot see it as a boxing glove. it just has that weird little knot thing around its neck, which is hardly notable from up close, let alone from a distance.
Interesting lockstin forgot to mention that flamenco and flamingo, in spanish, are both flamenco
and the bird is one of the many theorized reasons the dance is called that
One thing that wasn’t mentioned about Squawkabilly that I think is really cool is that the type of parakeet that it’s based on is an invasive species, which ties into its rockabilly/Elvis look, as Elvis helped to popularize rock and roll, which was thought to be “invading” the culture of the general public at the time.
Squawkabilly is the only one who feels like a filler Pokemon. Bombirder is kind of cool and Flamigo is not bad.
I just wish Bombirdier held rocks with its tail or something instead of that weird bib
squawkabilly is awesome I love him.
I think Bombirder and Flamigo are ripe for a awesome evolution down the line.
They’re great concepts but its like they only tried once and went with the first draft
@@M_AlexanderIt's based on a stork who carries babies.
Flamigo really shines in its personality in game as this crazy murder bird. I remember exploring too far from the starting area, a lv 15 flamingo runs up to me, cant escape, no pokedoll to throw and kills my team. Almost as murderous as Veluza but with a crazy bird asthetic.
Comfey isn't forgettable! It was a staple of competitive play and is a completely thematic and aesthetically pleasing design.
Like, in Gen7 Competitive or in the TCG. I'm familiar with Lost Box Comfey, but if it was actually useful in the games then I wouldn't know about it.
How I feel about Chatot
Don't forget the monster it is on Unite
I love the finneon and lumieon line because they make such fun noises for cries. Unforgettable. 😊

13:47 A new hand touches the beacon!
@3:25-.-Wow, real life flamingos really look like something out of an alternative dimension. They're kind of trippy.
Watching you swing that flamingo decoration around and having it break never gets old! XD
I also thought Bombirdier could have some Egyptian references.
Hey lockstin I’ve been loving the newer vids keep up the good work
Honestly, if they wanted Flamigo to have more relations to dancing, then they probably should have shown that more, like maybe some longer feathers that are similar to a dress commonly used in flaminco sounds like at least a little bit more then what we got.
I'm pretty convinced it was more supposed to be a gymnast than a flamenco dancer, hence the focus on its flexibility.
Flamingo in spanish literally means flamenco, both the bird and the dance share word
That bit about the mourning doves sending him into a nostalgia-driven depression spiral was so painfully relatable that it shocked me for a moment.

“A new hand touches the beacon. Listen. Hear me and obey. A foul darkness has seeped into my temple. A darkness that you will destroy. Return my beacon to Mount Kilkreath. And I will make you the instrument of my cleansing light.”
13:47 A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON
I was ready for that "boulder" to start screaming into my earbud the moment he picked it up-
Bombirdier I think has a connection to Capsakid and Scovillain, birds are the main way peppers spread their seeds after all
Iirc, isn't Capsakid found around where the Titan is?
I mean flamigo was pretty decent in competitive with a dondozo strat in Reg A, which turn him into a monstrous sweeper, which is hilarious that literally just a bland flamingo was terrifying when dragons, an elephant tank and a robot warrior were rly good.
Flamingo + Fish
The scariest duo
Flamigo is legit one of my favorite pokemon from the new generation.
I love Flamigo! I was excited when I saw them from the opening and as soon as I saw it in game, it was basically just a Flamingo with a knot around its nexk and my love for it just EXPLODED with just how dopey and simple it is but also by how surprisingly strong it was!
I like Flamigo. It’s so basic it’s hilarious, combined with high stats for how early you can get one. Love the thing😆
@Gnoggin So when Flamingos are doing their mating dances, they'll synchronize with one another. THATS WHY IT HAS COSTAR AS ITS ABILITY!
Weirdly enough, Flamigo gets a lot of side recognition due to its brokenness in Gen 9 speedruns (amazing typing, insane early-game stats + Scrappy) as well as its hidden Ability making it amazing in VGC.
Bombirdier is one of my favorite Pokémon this gen. Stealth rock / parting shot stork. It just needs prankster to be perfect.
Still watching. But i think its important to remember that every pokemon is someones favoriite. Bombadier is one of my siblings favorite pokemon ever.
Flamigo is actually one of my favs from Generation IX! I used one on my playthrough team and even shiny hunted for another in the post-game😁💖
Squawkabilly's design can be also based on a brazillian mascot called "Louro-José" from a famous TV show.
That thing with former criminals becoming taxi drivers is actually referenced in X/Y with the taxi drivers in that game using the Sandile line!
Me upon seeing the 'sponsor rock' that Bombirdier dropped: ANOTHER HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON
@@caiusdrakegaming8087 Yeah, not sure why he was using the shinies.
@@Surkk2960 For Lilligant probably because it likely was a shiny a lot of hunters went for. As for Meloetta, no idea. Like said, it's never been given out shiny yet so I have no clue why he chose to use the shiny Gen 9 model for it
the only real dex filler is Pawmo. i'm convinced it only exists so Nemona can have a smooth stat increase for her non-starter ace
The whole inspiration for Bombirdier, it all comes together.
13:37 I thought a new hand was about to touch the beacon
Unfortunately Flamigo will never be forgotten because my first encounter with it was a shiny…
Talking about a regional variant of Gardevoir i'm pretty sure that the Charcadet line is one of the new "convergent" pokemons for the Ralts line.
And if you ask why they don't have a Kirlia equivalent... the child soldier is forced to mature.
Nooo I love Bombirdier it has such a unique design and I love it
A flamingo pokemon could have been so good if they just made it a fire type for the pun FLAMEINGO WAS RIGHT THERE
I’ve been binging your videos and am always glad to see a new upload! I don’t even play mainline pkmn games anymore, but it’s so fun hearing about the design origins.
A couple Pokémon that I forget about frequently are Heatmor and Turtonator. They’re cool, but seem kind of out of place for whatever reason. I never see fan art of them.
20:45
Bombirdier: I know what you are
I actually really like Flamigo and Bombirdier
They don't deserve the hate
New gnoggin lore just dropped
He bloody despises gnomes
“A new hand touches the beacon”
I love Flamigo. It's *so* powerful and goofy.
Samw
For real, what is an Elite Four Pokémon doing in the first area of the game lmao
antient stork: dang can't wait to eat this baby I stole.
antient couple: oh honey look, the stork brought us a baby!!
Flamigo is such a great design for letting the fan base fill in the all blanks for the designers 😌
i wanted to watch this to try and get me to like these Pokemon more but now I'm just more disappointed that they weren't fleshed out more. like the ideas for flamigo and squackabilly are there but they just, aren't interesting, at all, even after you try and notice the better parts about them. flamigo especially disappoints me as "flamico dancer fighting type flamingo" sounds pretty cool! yet you'd never even guess that's what it was trying to go for from a distance.
Hard for me to forget about Bombirdier when it’s my favorite Titan Pokemon
I didn't realize how Based Bombardier was, nice 👍
22:59 Well not quite the same, dekatora is an art style, not part of a delinquent lifestyle. In fact itasha would probably be closer just for the close association with a Japanese counter-culture, though in this case it's otaku (though some dekatora were apparently inspired by Gundam? But they're more than just that of course while itasha are not) ... In fact, there's another variation of motorbikes closer to dekatora known as dekochari, which have _nothing_ to do with Japanese delinquents.
Thank you for exposing Bombirdier's home of phobia.
I found a shiny white squackabilly in my first hour of playing so I was pretty disappointed when I saw it didn’t even have a evolution
Maractus became famous for being forgettable, ironically making it very memorable.
Anybody remember shuckle
Yeah! Shuckle!
@@aurawarrior1367 Another fellow Dorkly fan I see....
Dorkly reminds me of shuckle with every episode of their pokemon series.
don't fuckle with shuckle
I think everyone does?
That censorship thumbnail is just.... Perfect lmao
I’ve always been into things that are simple and plain. So I actually quite like Flamigo 😊
I feel like flamigo was made plain because it's was Larry's Ace, the most normal guy ever.
I thought his ace was staraptor
@@samfordmagnus7774 staraptor is his gym Ace, his elite four Ace is flamigo.

"Bomb-BIRD-ē-uhr"?!
I figured it was obvious this name is meant to be pronounced BOMB-buhr-DĒĒR.
Ya know...like "Bombardier"?
🙄
EDIT:
18:25
Omg ... he pronounced "Bombardier" wrong, too.
The more you talked about Flamigo, the more I wish they had given them long tail feather that look like the flamenco dresses. Kind of like Espathra.
“And now everyone [who is white] can buy a house!”
Keep to the content and cut the politics. Stop being petty.
