- Is it possible to synthesize & integrate opposing views while avoiding both-sides-ism or an anemic middle that is dependent on the extremes to define itself? Award winning producer and storyteller Stephanie Lepp shows us how to heal our most pernicious social divides.
She's the former Executive Producer at the Center for Humane Technology, the organization at the heart of the Netflix documentary The Social Dilemma. Today, she leads Synthesis Media, an independent production studio devoted to accelerating the next enlightenment. Her latest production is Faces of X - a series of short videos that integrate different perspectives on divisive social issues. You can find Stephanie on Twitter x.com/stephlepp

Thank you both for this lovely conversation. I am just now meeting you both, and I can't wait to visit your sites, read your thoughts, and learn for you both.
As someone who constantly tries to see all sides and drives myself and everyone around me crazy trying to be the peacemaker (as enneagram 9) and balance everything (as a Libra), this is so amazing and liberating!! I love this so much. I will definitely be listening to this again.
Aw yay! I'm a fellow Libra! (Stephanie here.) Happy almost or belated birthday!
Viewing #2 ✅️ I may need to listen again too because there is soo much amazing information in here ‼️
Amazing. So nice to hear two people so much smarter than me speaking to the very inner dissonance I am feeling being a therapist as awakening unfolds. I am clearer and clearer I know not what I am doing, but still wanting to get paid. Ouchy but true.
What a wonderful talk! One thing it reminded me of was a podcast/newsletter that I've been reading for several years called Tangle. The journalist who started it, Isaac Saul, created it as a kind of "integral" exercise in that he focuses on a single issue each day and presents what he considers to be the best arguments from the left, the best from the right, and then where he stands, which is sometimes more with the left, sometimes more with the right, and sometimes in a kind of synthesis. But he reveals his own biases and explicitly states he's not trying to convince anyone they should believe what he does, but was asked so many times for his own take on an issue that he began providing it. It's one of those few integral sources of news I've been able to find out there, and I'm glad that along with him and "alt-middle" I now have a third source integral media in Stephanie and her media company. Thanks so much for featuring her on your show!
Thanks for pointing me to tangle, Imma check it out.
I would also add The Daily evolver (with Jeff Salzman) to your Integral news media list. He's on hiatus right now, but he should be doing new episodes soon. 🤞
@@jimmybaker6639 aweome, thank you!
Thanks for this. I am feeling all alone in my inability to pick sides on many issues. It’s lonely being without a team.
Perfect timing for this conversation ❤️
Such a fascinating, engaging and intelligent dialogue, keep it coming!
Well, this was exceptional.
This is so what I needed right now. I just went and saw Am I Racist, with Matt Walsh , who we’ve identified as conservative, I lean liberal, and I get what he’s doing here, and I respect it, but I gravitate toward this channel and others, friends, and family in my life for actual nourishment. I’m also a cumbaya guy. I’m way more interested in what brings us together, because I know all the bullshit that tears us apart:)
So with you! I just saw the movie last night, and while I was laughing....I was also cringe-ing. I dream of producing "What Is a "Woman? Part 2" (and "Am I Racist? Part 2") - where we interview all the same people, but do it the integral way :)))))
THIS! Thank you!!
A good reasonable discussion, a rare thing to find.
I thought I was alone in this way of thinking. Both sides of whatever issue dislike me.
Me too!
About Matt Wallsh approach to trans ideology, i kind think that "the good guy" wouldn't work because if you try in nice way to reason with a ideologue what you get in return? Reasoning? No, you get name calling and so on, i would say that you have to do both "good guy" and "bad guy" to turn up heat, so people begin to see absurdities and then it would possible to do conversations without stupid side choosing.
It’s most likely that we’re all totally wrong.
Ken Wilber likes to say....no one is smart enough to be wrong 100% of the time :)
Such an excellent topic and so, so very true. Until we find a way for this kind of "middle ground when needed" mentality to gain majority market-share in ad revenue and click-bait, it is never going to catch on and help save our ever-failing society though :(
I hope this kind of rhetoric makes its way into more and more brains over time. The only good thing about extremism is that it's so, so very easy to get sick and tired of it (for all but about 30% of the LEAST SENSITIVE people in society, at least).
Just gotta get the 70% of us who eventually hate extremism to be on the same page now 🤣🤣
I did my Thesis, Antithesis and Synthesis. Nothing worked really. I finally ended up getting a Penile Prosthesis, the definitive solution.
😂
Idiocracy.
This how dumb they thing we are...or how dumb many of us actually are.
There are reasons art is integral to science, while science is really important. Neither is without flaws. Careful thought and lots of experiences go a long way, as does memory. There are reasons the body and mind still remember things no matter how in the moment of now we are. Listening to the pod, and responding in the You Tube panel, as I'm like 400 some odd hours behind in all my UA-cam subscribed listening/interacting. I remember as I say this here now, that in 2016 I told myself to not subscribe to any channels, and then not to more than one, and now... I am trying to deal with having not limited myself. There are some good and helpful things happening in the plethora of subscriptions I'm clearly unable to stay caught up with. Offline has to hijack me too. Staying Alive Staying Alive. Missing the fair, but realize it really is better to listen to my body and stay home. I might allow myself to swim, which seems reasonable after last nights marathon. No where near midway exertion or transporting to and from exertions. Still trying to talk myself into going to fair for friend. Hiking to fair... Set of mobility gear to attempt. Memory of doing this before. What all this has to do with my choice of candidates... Nothing, yet everything. Am I really this debilitated? I constantly ask myself... and beat and cajole my reasonableness with. Daily.
47:50 yes, the meaning of “woke” was hijacked.
28:00 does anyone know What "The Stoa" publication is if I am hearing that correctly?
Wonder if zdog was at one of those Diddy parties. If so, should probably pack some bags.

I was on board for the first half. Then it started to slide into some serious navel-gazing.
Blame it on algorithms instead of programming and liars. Hilarious.
This is sad. As if this is a new idea, or she is leading thinker. WTF.
There are no new ideas. That doesn't make it sad.
@@johnthiel7560 hah! Exactly what I was thinking. Also, I don't recall her every saying she came up with these new ideas. To the contrary she continued to mention Clare Graves and Ken Wilbur throughout. Zubin cited them as well as Rachel Zoftness and others. Isn't that the whole idea of this "integration" theory? That we take idas that were handed down to us and integrate them in new ways that make most sense for the present situaion?
