Dude, what an amazing conversation! As someone with a similar background to you in terms of religion -> atheism, and then a slow lurch back to just realizing that we have no idea what is going on (thus I just label myself as agnostic in the ultimate sense), Britt's stuff resonates so well, even if I've never gone through truly nihilistic episodes (or super religious ones). In the Tibetan Book of Living and Dying we are encouraged to meditate on the impermanence of our human life because if anything is going to wake us up fully and passionately, the meditation on impermanence is it. We can hold the belief that we are not the mind or body and that what we truly are neither lives or dies but at the end of the day facing our human mortality moves us in a way that no negating death will. The presence and awe of this one precious life and how we wish to spend it, is something that we often meditated on in Buddhist meditation centres. In all honesty this meditation on our one precious life deepened my spiritual life quite intensely. Instead of being self focused on finding enlightenment I really started to think more of others and how I can be of service in life. People who have had near death experiences or who have had more than their fair share of grief as I have, know this.

I left seventh-day adventism a long time ago and found spirituality but nothing has ever lasted…I’ve always noticed a deep knowing that just living is where it’s at!!! I’m also a hospice nurse and liaison ~ as if I’ve been just meant to be in the raw experience of death, literally. Thank you so much for this beautiful expression!!❤️
Discovered Britt recently, she uncovered a lot of issues and struggling with and brought them to the front of my mind. So I’m feeling them more acutely.
This is by far my favorite video you’ve done. Didn’t know anything about Britt before this, but this video is just such a wonderful example of integration and “chop wood, carry water” that y’all really start to get into in the second half of the video. There’s this unease I’ve felt for a very long time in this non-duality space where most “awakened” people seem to be disregarding the human messiness of life that seems to even follow after deep insights. The trauma and conditioning still come up (and can actually be more direct and close than before), and they have to be worked through while juggling the chaos that is life. I think there are a lot of vestiges from the past and the influence of various traditions that give a flavor to enlightenment suggesting that this is something special that turns people into flawless beings. That being said, I’m also noticing a movement that seemed to start in the past couple years where people with “insights” are being more transparent and honest about life that appears to continue in conventional reality. I think people understandably have an assumption that something special is needed to overcome the deeply personal intense suffering, but actually it seems like the emergence/realization of natural, ordinary, simple “this-ness” is what allows life to miraculously heal itself over time, not some special “personal” attainment. Anyway, just wanted to say that it’s just so refreshing to finally hear something expressed that’s always felt “off” about how people often speak about non-duality and so forth ❤

I am a kind, loving individual who is lonely in trying to explain and prove who I am. I have finally found my comfort in me being me when I embraced creating with my hands, whatever it may be. I apologize In advance for the lack of conciseness, but this conversation sparked a lot of contemplation of my beliefs or understanding of what “God” is in contrast to religion. I was (in my mind blessed to be) raised not in a specific religion but with awareness of an exposure to many different religions. Both parents were raised with Christian backgrounds but evolved to more of an agnostic bent and a recognition of the value of structure and sense of purpose. So thanks to my environment, even as a kid, I could never understand why or how there could be only one right religion or one right way. But at the same time, I would not claim atheism, because I felt and feel like all or most of the major religions are fundamentally the same. It’s just in the interpretation of the language. What is “god?” Is that the picture painted for children of the judge in the sky? Or the fiber that connects the universe? Reading the “bibles” of many religions with a different vision of what is meant by the “god” term, and a non-literal interpretation of original scripture leads to a completely different appreciation of what is being pointed at. It seems that “atheism” is often used interchangeably with rejection of the man-made constructs of religion; but most “atheists” are more “agnostic,” recognizing the impossibility of knowing everything, but maintaining a sense of connection or community. Without that, we are left on an island of suffering, aka”hell.” And no matter what, bringing it all back to personal experience is key. Anyway, thanks for putting this out into the universe!❤

As a junior / elementary school teacher for 30 years, I have found that being surrounded by the craziness of the classroom but needing to remain calm and compassionate has been the greatest teacher.
OMG, this is EXACTLY what I've been going through the last 10 years! I've been wanting to become a Humanist Chaplain in hospitals to do this kind of thing....explore the space of spirituality without blind faith in a religious ideology. I'm so happy to see this kind of message going out! It was even shared in a FB Deconstruction group.
My late mom was the religious education director of my local UU church, she was also a teacher(sub for many grades but mostly was elementary or preschool b4 the church). For me it's being a UU, I'm not always active, dont go every Sunday or anything like that. I sure did as a kid though and it did make a big impression I guess in my adult life. I chose hospice healthcare for my career and I do believe me being so strong in my knowledge of many faiths/UU stuffs it's absolutely the right path I chose. Allowed me to respectfully and compassionately do my job. My people needed me to pray w them, sure no problem bc im here for their comfort and care and not mine. My workplace is their home.

Only just started watching this. But man It really bothers me that apparently so many Christians apparently habe been told not to question. I have been a Christian all my adult life and I regularly ask questions of my own faith. I believe you have to. In order for any system of belief to have any value I think thefe must be enough, not absolute, but enouh e idence and support to say ok it os resonable to believe this is most likely true. It very much falls into the same vein as scientific laws. They are only laws because we have not obsered phenomenonon where they dont work yet. When we do we analyze the previous law in light of the new evidence. The same is true of faith wrather that is in religion, science, or anything else. If I come across reaearch or a philisophical idea that discounts my faith then I have to anyze why, does thos make sense, is there any quantifiable, or qualitative data in suppory of it. If this is true how does it really line up or not with my faith. I have come across many such things that make me question my faith and have followed this. Some may consider my faith week because of my questioning, at times its myself, but it is nothing but honest. When a pastor or leader of your faith or group or what have you, starts condeming you're questioning then you know it is time to move on. If theu are honest about what they know and what they don't and invite you to investigate then they arecat leadt seeking the truth as much as you are. As far as Christianity goes it invites questioning, it invites investigation. (The people who say they are Christians may not sadly) Does this mean every thing will be explained all at once, no. Will you understand all there is to God no. But you will continually learn more and more. You should always persue truth to the best of your ability. What you believe is only valuable to the extent that it points to the truth.

I also think irony is part of the psychological development. We have to be comfortable with the ironic life we live in as an adult otherwise we won't have the capacity to live.
During this interview they briefly referenced a TED talk regarding life being a simulation / virtual reality. I cannot remember the name they mentioned. Can someone give me that name or link to the TED talk?
Hmm yeah.. spirituality is like a way to improve the queality of your dreams. It's like you're dreaming of being in the ocean with your board ,but there aren't any waves. Sp spirituality may provide the waves.. but what you really want to do is wake up from the dream and see reality :)

This is omnism. Omnism what is common between ALL religions. The basis of all religions without the ONE aspect that separates each religion from each other. This is inclusion. The foundation.
It gets labeled differently by each religion however at the foundation each religion says basically the same thing. Be present in the moment. See what is around you. Use all your senses to experience it. Then the ID/EGO puts in what separates. To one of the paradoxes I always wondered about religions how they thought that they were the one and only truth in light while they excluded people when God/pure & innocent human instinct is love and connection.
No one needs the various cults that humans invent to have purpose and meaning to their lives. Us humans give that to ourselves and each other. No evidence for the supernatural so it seems rather pointless to claim that.
Angelo has a particular PATH or METHOD of experiencing consciousness... free of dogma (and free of THOUGHT!) I appreciate each person's experience of "experience." Don't worry... I've spent a lot of my life in "fight or flight" mode - fear of hell, dogmatic PANIC! I can't say enough for vagal tone and the power and the expansive access to tools one gets when the OPPOSITE of fight or flight occurs. I label this vagal tonic space "DINBAR." It really is an experience to behold.

This is omnism. Omnism what is common between ALL religions. The basis of all religions without the ONE aspect that separates each religion from each other. This is inclusion. The foundation.
It gets labeled differently by each religion however at the foundation each religion says basically the same thing.
Be present in the moment. See what is around you. Use all your senses to experience it. Then the ID/EGO puts in what separates.
To one of the paradoxes I always wondered about religions how they thought that they were the one and only truth in light while they excluded people when God/pure & innocent human instinct is love and connection.

No one needs the various cults that humans invent to have purpose and meaning to their lives. Us humans give that to ourselves and each other. No evidence for the supernatural so it seems rather pointless to claim that.

Angelo has a particular PATH or METHOD of experiencing consciousness... free of dogma (and free of THOUGHT!) I appreciate each person's experience of "experience." Don't worry... I've spent a lot of my life in "fight or flight" mode - fear of hell, dogmatic PANIC! I can't say enough for vagal tone and the power and the expansive access to tools one gets when the OPPOSITE of fight or flight occurs. I label this vagal tonic space "DINBAR." It really is an experience to behold.
