Thanks a lot for the good tutorial. Previously I tried to clone my HDD with AOMEI partition assistant, but that attempt failed. The solution with backup and restore worked fine, uses the capacity of the new drive and was even faster than cloning. And the PS4 still behaves same as before...
It helps with things like load times and install times. It doesn’t necessarily make the game play any faster. But any fake that has to access the disk (maybe in between “areas”) will certainly benefit from the faster load/seek times.

You can upgrade it by getting your OG PS4’s internal hard drive swapped out with a 2.5-inch SATA III SSD (the same type of SSD or hard drive that is used in most modern laptops). SSDs are much faster than traditional hard drives because they have chips instead of spinning, magnetic platters inside.

8tb is the max. If you going to put a 8tb SSD in it, I would recommend buying a UPS. If the PS4/Pro loses power for any reason, even if it is in standby mode, you are going to have to reinstall the software and reformat the SSD. When loses power, it is unable to read any start-up files. Even if you buy a UPS, buy a 8tb external hard drive as a system backup. I learned that the hard way, I was luck/unlucky enough to have a backup. It was over a year old. Trying to re-download games was a major pain. It wasn't letting me to re-download the games inside of the PSN store via PS4, I had to go 1 by 1 to try to fine the games on my PSN app on my phone and re-download. My 8tb SSD is pretty much full. It takes 30+ hours to do a backup, and another 30+ hours to restore the backup. My backup drive is a regular external HDD.
@NextNate03 Great. I've installed an 8tb ssd on my internal ps4 jb 5.05 and transfered all my games to a 20tb exfat external via the exploits app2usb which manipulates the ps4 to think its on the internal.. this method can take any size of external!
You can use Disk Utility or Disk Manager depending on if you’re in Windows or macOS. It’s pretty easy, just Google or search YT if you can’t figure it out.

@@FamilyGeekerythe top cover wont go off, for some reason in every single video out there it comes off easily. I havent removed the cover before why is it like this?
Quick question. What would be the point of doing this? Was the system running slow or was the hard drive damaged or something? Mines is running slow and freezing. And according to the UA-cam experts they say you should change the SSD.
The main intent was to simply show “how” to do it. As far as “why”, increasing the size would probably be the most common reason. And replacing a damaged hard drive would be a good reason as well.
thank you 🙂

can i do this using google crome
Anyone can help me out I've got a error, ps4 won't start cause it can't access storage, can i still replace my hard drive with external one and will it work or does it require internal hard drive
This error I got today have you fixed it bro?
Can you tell me the solution
I would try replacing the hard drive and loading the system files on it as shown in the video.
I'm having an issue where I install a fresh file from sony but its still saying it can not find the file im at a lost now, I've even cloned it but still am getting nothing
ya same here did u find a fix?
@@michaelhart5070 i ended up realizing I was installing the update file and not a system file update you gotta click like 2 more links on sony's website where it tells you to install the installation file and name a folder UPDATE and then it says something PS4 its been awhile now so I don't recall it
@@Pr.2104What a pain in the ass sony makes this out to be. Might be better to switch to XBOX honestly.
@@michaelhart5070 if ya got snap I can show you how to install it its not that complicated
@michaelhart5070 at least Sony let’s you use standard storage drives, and not an overpriced proprietary ssd.
Great, thanks
You haven't linked the website
Sorry. Just edited the description and added the link. Thanks for watching.
@@FamilyGeekery thank you :]
i m in safe mode and my controller don t connect to my ps4, what should i do?
Connect the charger on ps4 and then with your controler and press PS button.
Connect via USB cable 1st.
I wonder if this works on any ssd
Basically any 2.5” sata ssd
I service my PS4 twice per year.. By taking it completely apart, take a tooth brush to the fan, blow out the whole thing, and put it back toaster
What's the max storage sdd internal can the ps4 read?
Sony says 8TB. I haven't personally tested that, but it sounds legit. Thanks for watching!
@FamilyGeekery I'm gonna try a 8tb ssd n confirm back soon!!
@NextNate03
Great. I've installed an 8tb ssd on my internal ps4 jb 5.05 and transfered all my games to a 20tb exfat external via the exploits app2usb which manipulates the ps4 to think its on the internal.. this method can take any size of external!
Thanks 😊

PS4 Fat can run ssd to 2TB?
Yes it can!
I don’t understand how to format to fat32 no one really says anything about that?
You can use Disk Utility or Disk Manager depending on if you’re in Windows or macOS. It’s pretty easy, just Google or search YT if you can’t figure it out.
Does ssd make the ps4 faster?
Yes to loading.
Yes, because SSDs are way faster than HDDs.
Thinks u bro
I caught a mistake at 4:13 lol...
Oh No! Don’t tell Sony I called it an Xbox! I’ll lose my sponsorship! Lol. Good catch!
Did not help at all for what I'm trying to do
What are you trying to do?
be careful with buying cheap used PS4s off marketplace... you dont want to end up with roaches in your house... the original design is notorious for this and you dont know what sketchy people are selling you
Good advise. I fixed a computer for someone once and found little roaches crawling out of it. Used a couple baits to keep them from ingesting, but it was still gross!
It's like that with everything tho.
nice 😁😁😁
Thanks!
same way we should be able ti downgrade the ps4
Is it worth it ? PS4 only supported SATA II
It's worth it, better loading time and rendering the gameplay is clearer.
Your system will also run quieter with an SSD (as opposed to a traditional hard drive with spinning, magnetic platters and a motor inside.)
@@KRAWofficial thanks for the comment I got an external hard drive it was cheaper
