Make sure the USB is plugged in all the way on the ps4. I know this sounds obvious, but mine wasn’t and I didn’t realize it until it pushed it in just a little more. Hope that helps!
Do I have to use a USB drive to transfer the data or can use a conventional FAT32 disk drive that I use to backup my laptop? Same for the games themselves.
Really appreciate your guide, big help. Question, if im going to change my hard drive with v10.0 firmware can i lower it down to 9.0 or still the same version?
I have a 4TB SSD to install as an upgrade. So I tried using another 1TB SSD to backup my PS4 but it kept indicating not enough space even though the PS4 only had 870GB out of its 1TB being used. Then I tried cloning the PS4 drive to the 4TB but the program copied every partition as is without allowing me to resize, so I would end up with 3TB of unused space. I ended up using the 4TB to backup the PS4, must be partitioned and formatted as EXFAT file system. Then I copied the backup to my 1TB SSD, also EXFAT file system, and surprise! it all fit properly. I deleted the partition on the 4TB drive left it unallocated. Installed it on the PS4 which I was then able to initialize with the "Update" file using a USB Flash drive formatted as FAT32. Finally I was able to restore my data with the 1TB SSD, the one my PS4 kept saying "not enough space" to back up in the first place. Lessons learned: PS4 recognizes EXFAT and FAT32 file systems. You need a drive with twice the capacity for the data you are trying to backup from the PS4.
Hi, i know im late but wanna ask, what is the storage limit for internal expandable ssd for ps4 slim? Like can i upgrade it to 8tb internal ssd? Cuz i dont really wnat to connect an external disk
You need the file on some device (making sure the software is in the correct file structure so the PS4 can find it). So you can't "skip" the step, but there are many ways to accomplish it. Hope that helps.
Hey I got a question, what hardrive would you recommend me to get to fix my ps4 that has corrupted data? I been having this corruption problem where it won’t let me play games on my ps4 and it’s frustrating 😞
How about if PS4 has more users? Every user has to backup data to drive(in my case cloud)? Or just the main account. If i reinstall the PS4, ill sign in there and the user accounts will be restored or how to do that if i have more accounts and using ps4 plus cloud
The PlayStation 4 Slim is compatible with SATA II and SATA III SSDs. However, it's important to note that the PS4 Slim's internal SATA connection is limited to SATA II speeds (3.0 Gb/s), so using a SATA III SSD (6.0 Gb/s) won't result in faster performance due to the bottleneck imposed by the SATA II interface. While both SATA II and SATA III SSDs will work with the PS4 Slim, you might not see the full speed benefits of a SATA III drive.

I put a 2tb ssd into my ps4 and im going to trade it in for a ps5 so i need to put the original 500gb back in, is it as simple as putting the original hard drive back in because it will have an installed system already?
Thanks, really helpful video!! I only have one question. If I'm using an external HDD for extra storage for my games, after I start using the internal SSD, the games inside the external HDD are going to run from there? Or is the internal SSD the one that will run all the system and games no matter where they are located?
Thanks for watching, and good question! Once you get the new ssd installed and setup with the operating system, it will work exactly like your old one. When you plug in your external drive, I think your PS4 should see them and run them from the external.
Is there much difference between an internal ssd and an external ssd in terms of load speed? I know an internal ssd boots the ps4 up quicker but apart from that is there much difference in speed?

Hello, was just about to follow your instructions and I thought this would be an extra safety precaution this being my first ps4 new last week. I upgraded with a 960g Kingston SSD as per your instructions no problem, installed half a dozen games and off I went. I thought some of the games didn't load that fast and thought it would be easy to revert back to the original 500g and run some loading time comparisons, the machine started in Safe Mode and asked for the reinstallation file via the usb, tried a few restarts but the same thing. So tried with the SSD and got the same thing now with no option but to reinstall the system which went smoothly and when restarting all the games and setting were intact. If you want a new/larger drive and don’t need your old stuff, then follow the steps in this video and just ignore the saving/restoring steps.
@@FamilyGeekery so I can use two hard drives in the same PS4 if I swap them over
If you mean can you take the original out and store it in a shelf, then install a new one and get it loaded up with games? Then manually swap the whole disk when you want to play different games? Technically yes. But it sounded hdd like a pain, plus you’d have to keep both drives updated every time a new PS update comes out.
@@FamilyGeekery ok cool thank you
Does it log you out?
If you put in a new drive and re-install the operating system, yes. You will have to log back in.
SAFE MODE STUCK = USE DATA CABLE FOR CONTROLLER,IT WORKS
Sir, thank you
Can't we just reinstall all the games?
Yes, as long as you’ve saved any trophies and saves in the cloud. But you’ll still need to reinstall the operating system. Thanks for watching!
So you can use your cloud data? I actually sold my old base PS4 and got a slim model a year later and all of my games I bought off of PSN store was still there because I still had my PSN account.
