This performance of ‘Your Song’ was Elton’s second appearance on Top Of The Pops, airing on January 14th 1971. This was just one week before the song became his first-ever entry on the UK Singles Chart. Taken from Elton’s eponymous second UK album, the now classic ballad peaked at #7 and spent 10 weeks inside the Top 40. This performance, recorded at the BBC Television Centre, features band members Nigel Olsson on drums and Dee Murray on bass.

Now I am 57 and she passed away, she left last weekend. I miss her but I still have this song alive here with me. RIP Cassia.

I met my wife while overseas and fell in love immediately. My ship left and we wrote letters. I copied down the words and mailed it in a box with this song the first cut on my mix tape of songs for her. I worked her Visa, she came to California, we built that house, 4 daughters and 5 grandchildren and 35 years later THIS SONG has always been in our house.

I almost died when I was 14 and when my parents were driving me home from the hospital this song started playing on the radio. Listening to it now at 22 gives me such a bittersweet feeling and I can’t help but tear up every time. ❤

This was my Mom's favorite song. How wonderful life was while she was in the world.
What a talent. I didn't appreciate him enough in my younger days.
The day I met my future wife, I walked over to ask her to dance and this song came on. This was the first song we ever danced together. Translating to Spanish for her as we danced sealed the deal, we were married 6 months later, and 40 years later I still love her.

No ones gonna read this but my grandma passed away during Covid one day my dad and I were in a road trip we were taking turns playing songs i heard this song a few months ago so i decided to play it my dad told me his mom aka my grandma would play this in their road trips as well 😢

Telling my age here, but when I was in college, I had a boyfriend that was a DJ for a radio station. My college was about 2 and a half hours from where he worked, but if I sat on my dorm room window ledge with my radio antenna pointed out, I could pick him up. Every night between 9-10 he would play a song that I knew was just for me. This was the one he played the most often.

I met my father when I was 39 years old. It turned out to be one of the most special experiences of my life. We talked for months every Sunday before I met him in person. As I got to know him, I felt blessed. I played this song ALL the time because I felt how wonderful my life was with my dad in the world. I had him for 2 years, as he passed away from throat cancer in 2006. I never felt cheated but blessed that I had him in my life for any time at all.

Maybe still going but with a completely different sounding voice in every single way. Its like two completely different singers from different eras ans vocal ranges singing the same song. This was his peak and will always ALWAYS be the definitive version.
